I can't believe I haven't ever reviewed this. It is probably my favorite MAC product EVER. I have already gone through one whole tube of Shimma and I'm on the second. I used to wear it every day as a shadow. Now I am trying to conserve it since it's discontinued. I have searched and searched for a dupe. Laura Mercier's eye color cream shadow in Alloy is very close, but it isn't as silvery as Shimma. Color-wise, Stila's Cloud eyeshadow, NYX Beanie eyeshadow, and Dior's silver look duo (the lightest color) are close dupes of this color, but those aren't cream shadows. The color of Shimma really brings out my hazel eyes. I also used it on my sister at her wedding, and she has brown eyes. I guess I could search for another Shimma on ebay or at a CCO, but my hunt will go on for the perfect dupe of this paint.

Ah, MAC Paints. Love them. Shimma has been is use in my bag for err...at least 6 years. It is a great neutral. I like to pair it with Satin Taupe by MAC for a quick neutral eye that looks great with my cool toned NC15 skin. I really hope they don't discontinue all of these. Just keep the lid on tightly and squeeze very gently from the end of the tube. Don't let people complaining about the packaging discourage you. This product in whatever color you choose is so great!

Yay for Shimma. I LOVE this paint. Yep its silver, but not that sharp harsh metal coloured base, more a soft taupe with silver on top. And it applies well, stays put and is great with the Smut, Carbon and Black Berry shadows. A++

Hello MAC paints! This is my first paint, having picked it up at a CCO recently. I'm a sucker for greys & silvers, and this fits the bill perfectly. I'm still exploring all the combinations with it, but so far I really like it with Sweet Sienna pigment & a black liner. It looks great by itself too with just mascara.

I LOVE my MAC Paints .. but this is probably one of my most loved!! Shimma looks initially like it's going to be silver .. but unlike Pixel which is straight silver, Shimma is more of a silvered taupe! This just glistens on my brown eyes and makes them glow! I've used at least three tubes of this! sadly, it's been discontinued which is why I bought a few back ups on my last CCO trip! Absolutely amazing base that I use at least once a week!!

I'm glad I picked this up at the CCO the other day...it's a beautiful silver/grey color that looks good on its own or layered under cool toned shadows. I especially love it under purples but could look stunning under blues. The only problem I have with the color is that unless applied in perfect lighting I sometimes over apply it because it looks matte unless the light is hitting it. If this was still being sold I'd definitely repurchase, but if I ever did run out I'd consider buying on ebay.

What can I say...Shimma is my HG base of all time! I've gone through three whole tubes of this since I started using it five or six years ago. But sadly it's discontinued...thankfully I scooped up several at CCO after I had found this out so I still have plenty left to last me about three more years :) This is a shimmery/metallic silvery/grey/taupey color that looks beautiful on its own when you're in a hurry or layered underneath...pretty much anything. Because it's a bit darker than Stilife, Untitled, or Bare Canvas, I find that it will increase the depth of the eyeshadows you place over it. I really like to use it under Satin Taupe, Mink & Sable (starflash L.E.), Silver Ring (another HG of mine), or Electra. And the best part is that it's a paint, so it will make your eyeshadows last all day and night without creasing or fading! I don't even think there's another paint or paint pot that resembles Shimma...Laura Mercier makes one that is similar (Alloy or Platinum I think) but it doesn't have the lasting power that MAC paints have. Since MAC plans on DC'ing the paints, I really hope they plan on coming out with more paint pot colors to keep us happy...til then I'm stocking up on Stilife and Untitled :)

Also, I have to add that the packaging of the paints has NEVER bothered me...yeah when you first open some of them a huge amount will come out if you're not careful. But in those times I just place the excess in a MAC or Sephora sample jar to use later. You just learn to be careful with it when you first open one...not a big deal IMO. The tube packaging enables the product to last for literally years without worry of drying out. The paint pots and fluidlines are more prone to getting dried out because of their packaging.

Shimma is one of my favorite paints but I just don't use any of them everyday. The color is a sheer taupey silver that looks scary when first squeezed from the tube.I sometimes just smudge these on with my finger but I get a better coverage and more control when I squeeze some out on the back of my left hand and then apply with an applicator or brush as you would paint from a palette. It does seem to help other colors blend and although it is pigmented it doesn't really change the color of the shadows I apply over it. I would recommend a thin coat and then build up if you need more. Be sure to let it dry before trying to add powder shadows over the top or they won't spread smoothly. The cute little package is a real pain. I guess the advantage of it is that it keeps the product from drying out. When first opened it wants to ooze out too much product but after several uses the pressure in the tube eases off and the oozing stops. You don't need to use much so although it is overprice you may never need to buy a second tube.

This is the first MAC Paint I have ever used, and I am IMPRESSED. This particular colr is right up my alley to begin with, shimmery silvery with a touch of lavender. It really compliments my pale green eyes and makes them look young and alighted. Also, my eyeshadow goes on really well over it and stays true for a very long time. I will definitely buy more paints, though they are a little too pricey. A little goes a long way. In fact, a little is better than a lot. Its true that the packaging can cause some extra to come out, even if you're trying to be careful. but that's not a big enough problem for me. The only reason I haven't bought more yet is color selection. I love the lightness and shimmer of this paint; the other colors seem either dull or dark.

This is a really lovely colour - I bought it mostly because I'm such a sucker for greys and taupes, I'm not really a fan of very shimmery, glittery and frosty shadows. Couldn't resist this one, though, and although I find it a little too metallic for everyday use I really, really like it for more dramatic looks - the combination of the meek, easy-to-wear cool taupe colour and the extremely shimmery, metallic finish is very nice.

As all paints, it sits where you put it and stays there until you (forcibly) remove it. My one gripe with this one is that the consistency is drier and harder to work with than my other paint Bare Canvas, and it really requires brush application to go on nicely. I usually soften the consistency of it a little with a drop of moisturizer or mixing medium on the back of my hand, too, and that makes it spread out better.

All in all, lovely eyeshadow that I would happily buy again if I ever run out.

This was my first MAC paint and i am by no means good with make up, but using this suddenly made everything soooo gorgeous. First time i used it was a simple silver and black combo...mac carbon, black tied and UD vapour made it look spectacular!! Today i'm wearing with with a blue smokey-ish look and again it brings my colours to life just how i want them. I am definetly going back to buy at least one more before they run out!!!

This MAC paint is such a beautiful taupe color! It's a shimmery silver-grey-purple color that reminds me a much more silvery/lilac version of my beloved Stila Viola eyeshadow (don't worry the two are very different - you need both! shimma is much lighter). I love the texture and staying power of the paint as well. Have found that this paint is a fantastic base for my NYX trio that includes Frosted Flake, Slate, and Iced Mocha. I would definitely re-purchase this if it weren't LE.

This works great as a base color for all my shadows and keeps he shadows from creasing/fading. My shadows last all day long. I love the slight shimmer and how this matches my complexion so well. I use this with all my shadows. I don't want to buy all the colors for all my shadows so this is the most neutral. My complexion is NC45

Shimma is a taupey silver, obviously shimmery paint. I really thought paints were overated and a little pointless. This sat in my drawer unused for probably a good 6 months until I picked it up this week. I love it! The packaging does ooze out just a little while it is new, but as you use the product that quickly subsides. I have used this a base with gray (Fiction), silver, plummy(Trax and Sketch), and taupes, coppers, and browns. I certainly didn't think this 'lil funny colored paint would be so versatile but it really is! Paired with UDPP, it literally glues my e/s on all day and adds amped up shimmer (but NOT glitter) to everything I pair it with! I did a really pretty plum smoky eye with Shimma, Trax, Sketch, and Blitz and Glitz. Do try and don't let the so-so color in the tube fool you! I always get compliments when I wear this! Love!

I love paints, they make your e/s more vibrant!
Shimma is my absolute favorite, I would describe it as a warm silver.
I don't have any problems with the packaging, it's great because the product stays good forever. I use this as a base for silver e/s, taupe e/s & brown e/s. It's great for a smokey eye and it's also pretty just on it's own.

MAC Paints creased when I used them alone as an eyeshadow base. However, when layered over UDPP, they make fantastic bases b/c they really bring out the vibrancy of powder eyeshadows. There is a large color range in a variety of finishes. They have a thick, creamy consistency and come in an attractive 0.23 oz squeeze tube that, yes, does ooze out when initially opened. I avoid this by unfolding the other end and squeezing the tube to distribute the Paint evenly in the new space.

Shimma is a gorgeous taupey-grey shimmer.

Shimma is my favorite paint for everyday and an HG! It’s very much like Shu’s old ME 945, a shimmery, silvery taupe, very gorge!
I normally just smudge this on with my finger. When used as an e/s base, my makeup lasts all day, even on my oily skin. The key though is to 1. Put enough on (sometimes I sheer it out too much) and 2. Let it dry completely first. True, packaging leaves a bit to be desired, but once it’s been about 1/4 used, the oozing stops. Also, the product lasts forever...one tube is well worth the price, even considering all the wasted product. I apply with my fingers. Will repurchase, too bad it's discontinued!

I love my paint in Shimma! I'm a PPP and this doesn't look too dark at all, it looks great. I use it with Stila eyeshadow in Puck (in the crease) and it looks great. In fact it's my favorite eye look at the moment.

I just got my first MAC paint through a nice MUA'er yesterday. I love it! This color is such a pretty smoky shimmery taupe and it doesn't crease at all (don't we all have this problem!). I put this on in the afternoon and 12 hours later it wasn't all worn off or creased in my eyes. I highly recommend MAC paints if you like shimmer, color, and fun makeup to play around with.
