The first few times I had used it, I really didn't see much difference. Reading some of the reviews however, I noticed that those who experienced a quick stinging upon contact with lotion usually said that it shrank their pimples. I never experienced that so I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. While of course stinging isn't an indicator of a product's efficacy, I just thought that it meant the product was really getting into the the pimples. So I did something I haven't done since forever: I started washing my face with warm water. I thought maybe it would "open" my pores so the product could get under my skin. And it made all the difference!
The first night I washed my face with warm water, I put the buffering lotion on my face and just slept. I am on my first few weeks of Accutane so I am currently getting cystic pimples every now and then. I used the lotion to spot treat the cysts on my forehead. However, my cheeks/jaws are filled with a mix of cystic pimples, blackheads and pus-filled zits so I put the lotion liberally on this area. The next day, the cystic pimples shrank by 40-50%! The other pimples, while still there, looked like they were on their way to drying.
I've been doing this for around 10 days now and my pimples are going away. I'm around 70% clear now. I'm almost sure that with some more uses, I'll finally be clear.
Now as pointed out by other users, this lotion is effective on cystic pimples. But I put this on pus-filled pimples as well and it dries them too. What I do is I pour it directly onto the skin and rub with a cotton ball. Then I pour a second time and let it sit on top of the pimple. The next morning the zit is still there with the pus, but it has dried a little and with 2-3 more washes and lotion use, it would be gone.
I don't use the lotion every other night as advised. I use it 2-3 times a day (every time I wash my face) but it never dries my skin, just my pimples. BUT my skin is not sensitive so I don't advise you doing the same if yours is.
So there. For those of you who used the lotion in the past and found it ineffective at the time, you may want to try it again with warm water this time, especially if you still have your bottles. I can't promise this will be as effective on you as it is on mine, but I really hope it is. If you try it and find it effective, please like this post so that others may see it too. Thanks!

I LOVE this product. I have always suffered from acne and recently I have been suffering from HORRIBLE acne due to switching my birth control. I'm 26 and I have literally tried everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. This is the ONLY product I have ever used that has significantly reduced my pimples.
I do have some cystic acne and also pain in the @$$ pimples that come up all over my face. I drench my pimples with this stuff and the NEXT DAY it is drastically minimized.
I highly recommend trying this, this has been truly God sent for me.

OH MY GOSH!!! THIS IS HEAVEN SENT!!!!
I've been suffering from this horrible allergy outbreak for the last week and a half but the redness finally died down but I was left with a couple of really deep painful cysts (they're definitely as gross as they sound) so I tried absolutely everything to make them go down but they were so deep that the pressure was killing me.
I went out LAST NIGHT and bought the buffering lotion at ulta (because every ulta pretty much carries this line but it's not advertised online)...
Anyway, got home, washed my face and then put it on... sat around for a few hours then showered put some more on and went to bed. Now, let me tell you that these two pimples that I had (I had more but these two were the most painful) were SUPER raised and it hurt to even wear makeup on them and it was impossible to conceal them but this morning I woke up and they were FLAT!!!!!!!!
They're still there but I can feel them going down when I apply the lotion. Now when I say lotion, don't think "moisturizer" it's kind of like a toner and yeah it has a funky smell but it's nothing to cry about because you can barely smell it.
I will say that it makes your skin a little itchy but this is because the product is working on the pimple (that sounds weird but it's true!)
I apologize for the lack of punctuation but I just HAD to get on here and rant about it. I'd also like to mention that I have EXTREMELY finicky skin and I'm allergic to silicones so I'm very limited as to what I can use on my face but this product is heaven sent.
I know there's other reviews which give it really bad ratings but you'll never know until you try, I do recommend you purchase it at ulta or at nordstrom (if you have one nearby) so if it doesn't work you can return it and get your money back.
ANOTHER thing is that the container is TINY so shelling out almost 20 bucks on a little dropper of solution kind of sucks but it WORKS so would you rather spend 2384932 dollars doing trial and errors with drugstore items or spend 20 bucks on a product that's pretty much guaranteed to work?

This is one of my holy grail beauty products! I purchased this a few months ago and have been absolutely obsessed ever since. I get a bit of cystic acne around my chin area every now and then and used to be stuck with it for about 3 weeks to a month! Once I started using the buffering lotion my stubborn acne flattened after about 4-7 days. I don't find this product to be overly drying but my only gripe with it is the packaging. Be careful with the amount of product you squeeze out or it can end up being a big mess and a waste of product!

I only started using this product TWO days ago and can already see a huge difference! I haven't had much a problem with acne since I was a teenager, even then it was on my shoulders and not my face. now I've been started to get breakouts along my jawline and chin. I have a feeling it's hormonal and I have never dealt with such stubborn acne in my life. nothing worked on it at all until I got this product. I had a cystic pimple on my chin for over a month, I tried everything to treat it. after using this for two days that pimple is almost completely gone. so far I couldn't be happier! I'll update as I continue use.

I have some very stubborn hormonal cystic eruptions along my chin and bought this after reading that it is specifically for cystic acne. I didn't notice immediate results but after using nightly for a few weeks I can tell a difference. I don't seem to be breaking out as often. And the breakouts I do have are much flatter.

I LoVE this product. I have been dealing with cystic acne for years now and has spent an endless amount of time on YouTube and the Internet searching for something that will help and I am just ecstatic that I read about this buffering lotion on a blog. Got it on Friday and by Monday (which is today) all my cyst are practically flat. I have an extremely stubborn cluster of cyst on my chin that wasn't healing at all. After applying the bufferin lotion I can't believe how much it has healed. I was like dang when I felt my face in the morning. I wear it during the day and night an even underneath my make up. Wish I would have learned of this sooner because my dermatologists are of no help to me. I use this with the combination of the Aztec healin clay mask and I saw a difference in my skin in days-no joke. I highly recommend this product, the money is completely worth it.

I have found that this product definitely works for me. I have dry skin, that for the most part only breaks out in cysts. Every once in a while I will get a pustule here or there, but normal breakouts for me are almost always cysts. I also have a problem, I am a picker. I can never leave a breakout alone, and this is a huge problem because the golden rule of cystic acne is to never pick at it, pop it, etc. The main problem with them though is that they will not come to a head, they will just sit there as a hard deep large painful bump for weeks. Now, Mario Badescu buffering lotion completely changes that time table. When I feel a painful bump growing, I simply put a dap of this liquid on the breakout 2-3 times a day, and usually within two to three days the cyst wil come to head, is ready to be popped, and then its flattened out and heals like a normal breakout. Seriously, its like it removes the infection deep down and turns it into a normal pimple.
I apply this by just washing my hands and putting a drop on my index finger and apply it to the area. This stuff is very thin and liquidy. I was very surprised when I got it, I thought it would be more creamy, so you have to be careful when dispensing it. Sure the packaging is not the greatest for the consistency of the product, but I am too much in love with it to complain. I know that this may not work for everyone, since everyone's skin is different, but I would recommend this product to anyone who has a problem with cystic acne. There aren't many things on the market specifically for it unfortunately, so it can't hurt to try. Best of luck!

When i first started using the buffering lotion i was thrown off because of the consistency of it. When applied to the skin it almost felt like a microdermabrasion exfoliating wash. There is a small granular type consistency that sits on the bottom of the bottle and that is what caused the solution to have that texture. It feel very smooth and the face and has a 'milky' feel to it. Buffering Lotion has dramatically cleared black heads and improved my skin appearance. I really love this stuff.

This is the only topical treatment I've ever used that legitimately works to target cystic acne. Most other treatments make them come to a head, or worse, do nothing and the pimples just sit there. This one really does bring them down before they come to a head and make them hurt less, if you use it right when you notice them forming.
For me, this means using it every night, between stress and hormones I have at least one of these pimples forming or on its way out. I use about 5 drops for each section of my face (left cheek, right cheek, forehead, and then put the remainder on my chin and nose) as a preventative measure, and if that seems like a lot of product, it's really not. This bottle will last a long time. The pimples go down over about 4-5 days for me, but when they're gone, they're gone, and if you've ever had cystic acne, you know how valuable that is. There's a good amount of alcohol in it so it will dry your skin out, and you have to work it in quickly because the powder makes it dry in a strange texture if it just sits on top of your skin.
Overall I'd absolutely recommend this treatment if you have cystic acne, it's really worked for me.
