I bought this dryer about 6 years ago and have been secretly wishing it broke so I could buy a new one ever since! It's big, heavy, and takes FOREVER to dry my long thick hair. There's no advantage to the Ion button either, it doesn't seem to make a difference. My hair still comes out frizzy and crispy. My mom's blow dryer (revlon I think?)was half the price and dries my hair twice as fast sans frizz. The filter cover is also stuck so I can't even open it to clean it. It's getting two lippies for durability, I've dropped it a few times and it works fine. But it's performance is just not enough for my hair type.

I guess this product come in a variety of models because I had this dryer for now 6 years and it still works like charm. Mine is black eith blue and silver details. It is on the heavybut man does it dry! I was looking to buy a new hairdryer when I went on a vacation with 3 of my girlfriens. I was the only one who brought a hairdryer and all the girls were super impress by the power and how short it is to dry your hair with it. I have hair up to the middle of my back and I would say they are completely dry after 8 minutes!
I just hope it won't ever break because it seems there is a lot of irregularities when it come to this product

I use the metallic blue one that sells at Target for around twenty dollars. This is my HG hairdryer because of the quality for the super low price. I've had this dryer for almost a year, and it is still working better than ever. I'm not one who is willing to spend a lot of money on a hairdryer, but I also don't want something that doesn't work properly and gives me a nasty head of unevenly dried frizz. I use this with the concentrator it comes with to blow dry down the hair shaft with a Conair Ion round barrel brush. It has made such a difference compared with the dryer I was using before, which believe it or not, was a higher end $70.00 dryer I had previously purchased at a department store. That dryer made my hair so frizzy that I had given up on blow drying period. After moving and switching hair stylists, I asked her to not blow dry my hair due to it frizzing. She reassured me it would not frizz and explained that a ion hairdryer with a high wattage and a concentrator would make all the difference, so I let her blow out my hair and it looked gorgeous. I decided to get myself a blowdryer closer to the one she had used, and ended up finding this one. It really turned out to be a super cheap dupe for my stylist's hairdryer and I really love using it. When used properly and with patience, I achieve a lovely salon-worthy blowout, all without even breaking the bank! HG heat styling tool.

These start out working great but quickly lose power and strength- don't want to replace a dryer every six months. I expect the motor to last at least a year. Cleaning did not help the motor just craps out.

Obviously there are several different versions of this dryer from the descriptions in the reviews, and some are better than others. I have the travel version that is blue and has a folding handle. Cost was $29 Cdn I think. I just bought my second one -- my last died after a few years of heavy use. I tried another cheap dryer and noticed how frizzy and dry my hair seemed.
Anyway, on mine there are three settings: high, low and cool. I tend to use the high setting as it has more force, and flip back and forth between the high and cool (which are beside each other) with my thumb so it doesn't get super-hot. This dryer definitely leaves my hair shinier and less frizzy than other dryers although I haven't compared many ionic ones. I don't find it super heavy or hard to manipulate so maybe those reviews are for other models. I also haven't had the sparks-flying issue (knock wood) although I've only used my new one for a week.
This dryer didn't come with a diffuser and I didn't want to give five stars because the settings aren't particularly versatile, but for me this is a good compact dryer that wasn't too expensive, and it dries my hair fast.

FAV HAIRDRYER HANDS DOWN!
I dont understand all the bad reviews about this dryer, i love it.
When my mom had one (the last two years) i would constantly steal it cuhs it worked faster than my shitty revlon one. Then it broke, after two years, because my cousin got water in it or something, (fell in sink)
Anyways, i bought a revlon dryer, another small other brand one, and well, i went to go and buy this again because the other ones took forever, didnt get hot at all, and were loud..><;;
It is big, but i dont mind, cuhs my hair dries WAYY faster with the amount of air that blows out of it.
I LOVE THIS!. =)

This dryer is horrible! At first I thought I was just imagining it. It took way longer to dry my hair than with my old dryer. My hair was always fizzy. And then today it broke after only a few months. The OFF/low/high switch just stopped working and then it started popping at me. Don't buy this! Spend a little extra and get a better dryer!

My mom owns this. What a piece of junk.
I find it difficult to handle. Things get pretty hot and heavy with this dryer, but not in a good way! The concentrator doesn't help much for straightening my hair. The words on the settings are rubbing off after a month of use, so you can't even tell what setting you're putting it on.
And you know the universal-fit Conair diffuser that's supposed to fit on any dryer, especially the Conair ones? You know the one. They sell it on exactly the same shelf as this dryer. Yeah, it doesn't fit. GREAT JOB, CONAIR.

Gets pretty hot. Very heavy. Seems to leave my hair poofy.
I only dry my hair every two to three days, so I keep putting off buying a nicer dryer. But I've never been able to just dry my hair without flat ironing it to make it presentable. I know I need a new one ,but this one isn't so bad that I have to have a new dryer right NOW.

I got this on sale for 18 bucks, originally 30 bucks at my local drugstore. i really wanted a blowdryer iwth a concentrated, and i got this one. I realized that the cool function can only go on high speed and not low, which was weird. Also, the concentrator is way too wide, about an inch wide. i suggest for you to get one that is very narrow. also, it's a bit heavy. It does do the job and dry your hair though. Also, it's cute cause it's blue. at least the one i have.

I am FLOORED by the terrible reviews of this. This product was a gift from the hair gods straight to me. It was our family hair dryer and it worked perfectly fine for my needs. Unfortunately I took it for granted, thinking that most hairdryers would be fine. When I moved away from home a year ago, I bought a whatever hair dryer (although still a good one). It doesn't treat my hair nearly as well as this Ionshine did. My hair was so smooth and not frizzy. It's like the dryer makes the heat not damage your hair or something. In fact, my hair has a natural wave to it and this dryer must've helped straighten it out, because my hair has never been so wavy without it. I was so stupid to not think of buying this again. If they still make it after my current one dies I will certainly snatch it up, this is such a great deal besides!!!

I hate this dryer. It weighs so much I can barely hold it up without hurting my hands or shoulders. It is loud, large, and takes about 20 minutes to dry my medium length straight hair. It also makes my hair pretty puffy and frizzy. The only thing I could possibly say nice about this dryer is that it is inexpensive and it gets really hot if you want it to.

I ditched this dryer for a Revlon RV544. Why? It weighs way too much, it's wayyy to loud, and it took 20 minutes to dry my hair -- and at the time it was a short bob! Even towel-drying first didn't seem to help. It didn't even give me that "ionic shine" I was hoping for & my hair had too many flyaways. (I ended up buying a ceramic flat-iron to tame the flyaways.)
IMO, if all you want is to get your hair dry, and don't care how much time it takes, or if your arms get cramps & your ears ring in the attempt, this might work for you. Otherwise, there are better ionic dryers which actually work & get your hair shiny in half the time (like the Revlon RV544).

I've had this hairdryer for about a year now. I don't really like it but it's all i have right now. Overall I don't really like it, I think it weighs too much! It dries quickly though and has a low heat setting and a cool air setting. It's never sparked for as long as i've had it though thankfully! I would not buy this again though.

My Babyliss dryer was starting to smell like smoke so I decided to go to CVS and buy a cheap hair dryer. This was on sale for $10 so I figured why not? Well, this STINKS! It dried my hair quickly, I'll have to give it points for that. But it left my hair feeling really brittle and looking dull. This is not worth even $10. I'm going to return it ASAP! Then I started reading other reviews (why didn't I check on MUA before purchasing?) and I saw some people mentioned sparks! Oh no! This sucker is going back to the store TODAY!

This dryer has progressively been having problems. I had the same sparks in the barrel issue until this week, when there was one big spark, and now the thing will hardly heat air (making it less effective than a fan for drying my hair). I've had it for less than a year.
Will not be buying this again -- it unnerves me too much.

This hairdryer dries my hair quickly and leaves it smooth and shiny, but there have been a few of times that it shocked me (twice) and sparks flew out (over 6) Although I like this hairdryer, it always scares me when I plug it in. I wouldn't recommend buying this.

I've had this bad boy for a year or so and have no issues with it, though I'm disturbed to learn that others have had bolts of electricity fly out at them. It dries my hair. I think the "ion" stuff is BS - this doesn't seem to do anything special other than dry my hair. My only complaints are: I used to have a cord keeper, and I love that function. The placement of the switches on the handle makes them too easy to accidentally flip while drying. I hate that the cold air button has to be continuously held down. When I need to replace this I'll buy a different model just because this isn't really anything special. Not that I ever expect a hair dryer to really be special.

if there was an option of would i buy this again, HELL NO!
i bought it on sale at macy's for 20 dollars. 2 months later, it started sparking inside the dryer making my hair smell burnt!
i called conair, custumer service people there are GREAT, they happily replaced a new one, came really quick too. SAME MODEL. SAME PROBLEM one week later.
i came back to school from winter break, called conair again, awesome customer service, told me i can pick a new model since i've been having problems with this, and the lady even said i can have ups pick it up so i don't have to pay the 10 dollar shipping (back to conair) fee. The return shipping for the new product is free even though it does tell you to include shipping fee on the warranty card.
but stay away from this if you don't want the problem.

As far as cheap(er) ionic hair dryers go, this one is a mighty fine option. It comes with two attachments - a great diffuser for curly locks, and also the attachment used for channeling air to a small area (great for straightening with a large round brush). I was hesitant to purchase a more expensive or heavier blow dryer. I think I paid about $22 for this and I am very pleased with my purchase.
