I had high hopes for this product as I use MAC foundation, and several other products. I am not a huge fan of how it goes on your skin - almost like nothing - but then feels sort of greasy once applied. This primer caused my eye makeup to crease and did not control my oil as I expected. I will not repurchase and I am very disappointed! Going back to my Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer because it controls my oil without any of these issues!

Pros:
- Mattifies instantly
- Creates a silky smooth surface
- Does a pretty good job to prevent concealer creasing
- Didn't break me out
- Hygienic tube
- Good amount of product

Cons:
- Doesn't really control oil for long
- Price

I have repurchased it many times but now I'd like to try something else.

I bough MAC Matte for $20 at Macys . This primer/corrector adds a sheer matte texture. I use this all over my face (forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, eyelids) before applying foundation. Since using this my makeup has stayed on twice as longer and does not crease my eye makeup. This primer creates a great surface for applying and achieving a great look!

Age: 18 & Under   Skin: Combination, Medium   Hair: Brown   Eyes: Brown

I bought Mac Matte for $20, looking for a good primer that would keep me matte throughout the day, as I tend to get a little shiny down my t-zone. It has the consistency of a gel, but glides on your skin as if you're not putting anything on. Once blended, it feels so incredibly smooth and even, and it fills in pores and fine lines. It creates a beautiful, even canvas to put makeup on top off. The BIGGEST downside to this is the first week-or-so of using it. I don't have sensitive skin by any means, and I have no allergies to silicone, but this broke me out worse than I have EVER broken out before. I say this without any exaggeration, I have pretty clear skin, but this messed my face up. After the first day, I had huge, swollen, painful red bumps all over my face, but they weren't white heads or normal pimples. I believe the heaviness and the silicone irritated my skin, and on top of that, the product was blocking my pores. The first week was hell for my skin. However, if you can deal with caking on the makeup to cover the blemishes, after the first week, give or take a few days, this product really works well. My skin got used to it pretty quickly, my bumps cleared, and I was able to use this everyday without irritation or breakouts. Foundation and other products blend FLAWLESSLY over this, and you'll look smooth and almost airbrushed all day. Matte - that's a different story. If this was called "MAC Smooth Airbrushed Cream", the name would work, but this only keeps me matte for about 2-3 hours. I don't get AS oily as I would without it, but still, if a product is going to be named "Matte", it should keep me completely matte all day. This also extends your makeup wear. My foundation doesn't cake or disappear throughout the day. It clings to makeup, but I feel this does rub off pretty easily. Over MAC Matte, makeup is more likely to transfer if it isn't set with a good powder. Overall, I like this primer, and I will continue to buy it, since my skin is now used to it.

I bought this product a few years ago. I have very oily skin and have tried lots of different products to keep it at bay. This just didn't work for me, and I recently used it in Back2MAC with product still left in the tube. While it did make my my skin look matte upon application, it also felt packed with silicones and gave my skin a weird slip...which made my foundation apply weird. It was almost as if my foundation wasn't setting, and was just sliding around my face. It also make my foundation look as if it wasn't concealing as well. Not for me.

Before I tried this, I was using MAC's Prep & Prime, which I wasn't that impressed with, but this is GREAT!.I use it after moisturising, before applying my foundation and find that I no-longer have to blot/touch up my T-Zone at lunchtime.
Fantastically silky and you only need to use a TINY amount (made easier because it's in a tube, so no waste) - makes my foundation go on better & absorbs just the right amount of oil without making my skin look or feel dry or cakey.
Can be applied over foundation as well, so if you're heading out straight from work you can touch up and look fresh-faced & non-greasy after 8hrs+ of makeup wear. Doesn't make you look cakey or powdery like touching up with powder sometimes can.
A must have product for me!

I really wanted to like this. I am sad it does not work for me. It does help foundation application, but I am not even that oily and my t-zone looks super oily when I wear this. I bought it because a beauty guru on Youtube uses it all the time and it works for her. Maybe it will work for you, but not for me. :(

I joined so I could review this product. I have just attended a wedding in an extremely hot and humid country and this was a lifesaver. I'm constantly sweaty on my face and in photos I look always look shiny. This was amazing. Lasted for the whole evening and no shine. I know this has mixed reviews but for me it works. I use it ontop of my makeup just on the cheeks, nose and forehead. Unfortunately my tube was stolen in a beauty parlour so I'm off out to get another. I haven't tried any other mattifying products so have nothing to really compare it to but I'm very happy with sticking to this one and the price £14 is excellent. Definitely worth a try.

I have been using this product everyday, faithfully, for the past 3-4 months and I am not even half way through the tube. I do like it, although it feels the exact same as my smashbox primer that I was using prior to Matte. I dont really think that it makes my skin matte, but definitely smooth and makes foundation application a dream. A little goes a LONG way and if you use too much, you will absolutely feel greasy and dirty. the price isnt that bad, considering you only need a tiny bit and it will last you a while.

Overall, I think using the word ''matte" is misleading. but this is good for making make up application a lot easier.

For me doesn't do what it says on the tin, I get oilly in my t-zone with in 2 hours and have to powder again, but I do love this product it makes blending my foundation a dream all so stops my makeup setteling in to lines of my forhead and around my eyes, deffo a must have if you have an hard time blending out foundations :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Functions the same as Smashbox due to the dimethicone for half the price! Feels silky going on and helps foundation and concealer apply more evenly and wear longer throughout the day. I also love the packaging in the squeeze tube so that you can get every last drop out. Absolutely devoted to this primer. HG status for sure :)

EDIT: I really don't like this. It feels SO greasy going on (moreso than any other silicone-based primer I've used) and it takes forever to dry. It doesn't really function well as a primer (although it's not its main function) but the main problem is that it does NOTHING to mattify! Isn't that why it's called Matte? To me, this is useless I'm afraid :(

If you have really oily skin like me, where after 3 hrs you need some more powder - DO NOT GET THIS

Honestly this does nothing at all! My skin still gets oily in the same amount of time.

I feel its only saving grace maybe that I think it may hold my make up in place a little, stops smearing but its still way way oily.

If this actually works for you then great :) becuase itll last ages and looks pretty cool, but for me, its pointless.

When I went to the MAC store, and not just the MAC at Macy's (what a difference it makes!) the makeup artist wanted to do my whole face even though I just came in to look around. He put on this gel, Mac Pro Longwear foundation, and Mac Studio Fix powder, and my friend who'd accompanied me said I looked flawless. It's important to mention that I have oily skin, with large pores and some acne scarring. I've been using Too Faced Primed&Poreless, this stuff, and then the two products I previously mentioned, and I like the result of it. I still get oily within a few hours, but I guess that's just a part of my life. Honestly, I don't know if this gel even makes too much of a difference since I do use a primer underneath it, but I refuse to take it out of my routine.

I use this as a primer, but I don't actually have oily skin. It doesn't do much for my skin but works perfectly as a foundation primer. When this runs out, I will probably return to the Smashbox primer, but it is still a good primer that I would recommend.

I love this stuff. I used this all summer long on my combination skin in the t-zone area. I would apply it with my fingers or a concealer brush in my t-zone area and sometimes on my cheeks before applying foundation, and it prevented my foundation from becoming oily by mid-day. This is a must have product for me.

This product makes my skin feel so silky smooth! Turned my face matte as soon as it touched my skin but I did notice some shine during the afternoon, not enough to turn me off the product though. Honestly one of the best primers I've used, I was previously using NP Set primer which is disgusting in comparison to this one. Will be purchasing this product again 100%

This is my favorite primer to use under my foundations. Matte leaves my skin smooth and keeps my skin looking fresh for hours. It is a gel consistency that does not feel heavy. It keeps my face matte throughout the day and minimizes shine once applied. The occasional blot might be needed depending on the weather/temeprature. This makes my face makeup look flawless and I prefer this over prep+prme. I would ultimately recommend this for dry/combination skin types that want to keep a matte finish throughout their day.
