This was my favorite MAC lipstick, I bought one tube in 2001. Little did I know it would soon be discontinued or I would have bought a dozen! My other firsts were Fetish, Fluid, Chintz and Icon. All frosts, all very muted. My complexion is light olive, with blue-pink undertones. My eyes are dark blue with rust flecks. Hard to find flattering lipsticks.
I wish MAC would re-issue this, even in a modified form as they did with Fluid and Chintz some years ago.
I actually sent a sample of Hyper to Three Custom Color and had them copy it. A little too red, not enough silver, but close.
So that said, I was in Walgreens one day and picked up a Wet & Wild color 541B. It has that silver frost overtone that Hyper had. They were on sale for 50 cents a tube! I bought three and when the sale was over, I bought four more at $1. They are stored in my fridge against the day when they discontinue that one. They say they won't any time soon, but who knows?
So if anyone gets back here to check this string, there's a chance 541B may work for you.

This is my most favorite lipstick of all time and I think it looks great on most anyone. However it has been discontinued. The MAC people recommend combining fluid & shitaki. They are close to hyper but not quite.

It's color very hard to pin down. It is a medium taupe brown, with a pinky/plumy undertone and a slight sliver frost. Done with a heavy hand it can be sorta dark and seem neutral brown/plum or done lightly and will be a pink-brown. I'm fair skinned, with mostly neutral but with a bit a pink undertone. This lipstick is not orange in any way, which is great for me as many lipsticks look orange on me but no one else. I've tried is on very both fair blonds and dark skinned women, cool to warm and it tends to be very versatile. I will always miss it.

This is definitely one of my alltime faves from MAC. I'm addicted to MAC browns (Hyper, Fluid, etc). and this one is maybe one of the hottest. It has definitely has more color than the other browns. I have pretty fair skin, but tan nicely with brown hair/brown eyes. This color works great from tan to fair. Love it.

This is one of the first MAC Lipsticks I owned. This is such an unsual shade of brown. It's a frosty (and I normally run screaming the other way from frosts) brown with a slight hint of purple and red. It's a really complex shade to describe, but damn, sexy nonetheless! I tend to look really nice in off the wall weird colors, maybe that's why it works so well for me. GGG NC40 This is a frosty version of mlbb, but I have very pigmented lips. I can't see this working for everyone. Try before you buy!

Bought this a while ago for a wedding and haven't really used it since :) But it looked very nice worn with a deep red/burgundy dress and smoky, earthy makeup. The colour is kind of hard to pin down - worn as a stain and blotted, it looks reddish brown with a small amount of shimmer if you look very closely, and when worn full-on, it loses most of it's red-ish tones and becomes a sophisticated, plummy chestnut brown with more obvious silvery shimmer. Nice lipstick and a change from my usual purchases although I probably won't be reaching for it often. (Don't want to wear dark colours while I'm still young lol) Won't repurchase.

This red colour has gold flecks in it and makes it very sexy. It's a reddish/plummy brown so it looks very dramatic on light or darker skin tones. Although, it didn't look great on my co-worker because she doesn't like browns in her lipstick. Otherwise, I highly recommend this one.

I got this in palette and stayed away from it at first because I thought..."oh boring brown.." but once I tried it I loved the complexity and subtle sexiness of it--brownish-silver. It makes lips look fuller. I am olive with brown hair and eyes (nc35) and this is a lipstick that pulls together almost any look-day or night.

Hyper is a really complex, vaguely reddish, silvery, metallic brown...ish color. It's a little bit dark on me (LLL), but I like it for a less harsh industrial/goth look. If that's the sort of look you're going for, it works MUCH better with brown hair and/or warmer coloring than, say, silver or blue lipstick. I probably won't repurchase just because I never wear it these days, but there was a time when I loved it.

i actually bought this lipstick years ago, when brown lipstick was in style. yeah, that was a long time ago. i like that it's not too dark and has a bit of shimmer to it, and also that it's got a slight purple hue to it. for the past year i've been using it as an everyday eyeshadow base...maybe that's frowned upon, but it's worked very well for me, and without any of the creasing i've experienced with mac's cream colour bases. it's just the perfect consistency to brush powder shadows on top of, and a great neutral colour to spread over the lid. i will definitely buy again, and not for use as a lipstick. unfortunately, mac doesn't make any cream bases in this colour...

This and Chintz were the first MAC lipstick's I ever purchased. I used this lipstick for years but have since put it aside because I primarily wear lipgloss now. It looked great on my dark skin (NW50) with chestnut lipliner and MAC's satin taupe shadow on my eyes.

Too brown and dark for my skintone, but a pretty color nonetheless.

I absolutely love hyper, it is my favorite MAC lipstick. It looks like a brown-plum with quite a bit of silver whenyou put on more than a coat. It looks kind of 'hard' but i enjoy that because i have curly hair and i dont feel like a kid when i wear it. I used to use it with chestnut liner, and have since switched to stone, which i adore. chestnut is much too dark for me. I prefer this to fluid for my complexion, even tho MA's tend to recomment fluid all the time, i just dont like the reddish frost look.

This is a very nice shade. Applied lightly, it is a nice neutral brown on me that does not look orangey at all - as most brown lipsticks turn on me. This may be a keeper. I wear mine with Chestnut lipliner, and it's a very pretty combo without being too vampy dark brown.

This shade is a brownish/plummy color with silver shimmer. (Although the MAC site describes it as having red, I can only see this as the shade starts to wear off of my lips. This is when I like the color least.) It's versatile in that it can look somewhat natural, or with more applications, it can look like an evening color. I happen to look good in brownish/plum/mauve colors, so I like it, but if you don't look good in those, steer clear. I don't think it would work for everyone. If you've tried the color 'Vista' from MAC, this looks like a frost version.

This used to be my HG of lipsticks. Using this with MAC spice lipliner, was just the ultimate combination for me. Then, I kind of went on a makeup budget and found my new HG of lipsticks in CG Outlast. Anyway, I'm revisiting MAC's Hyper, because it's just such a great color. In the past, I have felt at times it looks too silvery/greyish sometimes, but now that I'm in my second honeymoon phase of wearing it, I'm just loving it all around. This will be going back into the rotation!

I don't know why I bought this; it's just a more brown version of my MAC Fluid lipstick (which I like a little better.) Hyper tends to turn a little grey. Not a bad color, but not my favorite either. I wouldn't buy it again.

This looked good on me when I tried it on at the MAC counter--must've been the lighting or something. I've since tried to wear it, but I can't get past the fact that it makes me look like a corpse. It's kind of a silvery brown, grayish plum--didn't work for this CCC at all! Sometimes I wear it with a plummy lipliner, just to get some wear out of it. I feel like it cost me too much to just throw out, but I've been tempted. I'll never buy this shade again.

One of my FEW makeup staples, and I am notoriously hard to please. It has a nice subtle shimmer and is moisturizing, but clings to the lips well. The color is a muted metallic pinkish brown that looks really natural on olive, golden or medium skin tones. Two coats give a darker, more dramatic effect. The very faint scent is pleasing - slightly sweet - and not waxy like many lipsticks. I've been buying this product since 1998 and won't stop!

Hyper was one my early MAC purchases, and used to be a staple. It is a milk chocolate-plum colour with silver shimmer. Now, I find it quite dark, and rarely reach for it, which is why I wouldn't repurchase. I find it dulls my complexion a bit (NC43-45).
