I received a generous sample pack of this (enough for two weeks use) in combination with the ultra calming cleanser and serum. This was the best of the sample pack, and I would repurchase this. I recently had a microdermabrasion treatment that left me breaking out with pimples and red irritated skin. I thought it would be a perfect time to try this system. I've reviewed the other two products separately.
I really like the barrier repair. I can see why people think it should be moisturizing, it IS called a moisturizer by Dermalogica and says so right in the product directions etc. Like others, I didn't find it moisturizing or hydrating enough to use on its own. But oh how it soothed my irritated skin :) I love the texture and how it glides on smooth, and almost makes my skin look better instantly. The redness subsides, and it feels velvety soft. I think this would work wonderfully for those undergoing a treatment that may irritate their skin, someone using retinol or in a winter when the cold and wind can chap your skin.

I really love and recommend this product! It's absolutely fantastic for my dry, red and sensitive skin. Since using the barrier rapair as part of my daily Ultra Calming range regime I have had nothing but success. It's NOT a moisturiser (many people who've reviewed it negatively seem to think it is for some strange reason...?!), but is meant to be put on VERY MINIMALLY over the top of your moisturiser. I generally had just been putting it on after using the Ultra Calming Serum, and I adore the silky soft feeling the barrier repair gives my skin. The main reason why I think this is a great product though is because when I had put it on over the top of itchy, red and blotchy patches on my forehead it really helped relieve those areas and clear up the redness, just giving my skin the protection it needed to in order to heal. I really don't have any redness anymore. To me that was just wonderful, as no other product had really made a significant difference in helping my skin heal. During the winter here my skin gets really sensitized and the Barrier Repair is a lifesaver that I don't go without before leaving the house.
I suggest that people try a sample of this from their local Dermalogica salon, or just purchase the travel sized tube, just to see how you like it for yourself. Maybe it's not for everyone. But for people who have really sensitive skin, dryness, itchiness and redness, I really don't think you'll be disappointed in this. It IS expensive, which you come to expect from a quality Dermalogica product, but with the results you get it's got to be worth it. Especially when used in conjuntion with the Ultra Calming range, you will see results.

The WORST product not sold on drugstore or dollar stores ( I never buy from either of these places but I am assuming the bad product quality).

Silicone only made my skin DRier and ugly.

I hate, hate and hate this product

ZERO is the right rating for dermalogica overal products.

This product made the eczema on my face worse! Another thing that I hated about it was that it blocks any moisturiser from hydrating the skin if you put it on first. The consistency is very strange like an oily gluey gel.

This feels absolutely fabulous on my skin. It's as if I have a layer of velvet on top of my face. Although I love the product & how it feels, I'm not sure I can warrant the cost. Very nice product though.

Soothes the skin when it's irritated with redness. It makes an excellent primer as well under foundation! This product isn't a moisturizer, its a silicone gel and it has to be used on top of moisturizer in order to make a protection barrier when the skin is very sensitive (after chemical peelings or intensive use of glycolid acid and retin-a).

Hated this cream. I have sensitive skin and it made me break out in ecezma all over my cheeks and around my eyes. I broke out within 12 hours. Plus I didnt really like the tube style packaging nor the feel of the cream as when I applied it I couldnt really feel where it was going (weird I know!). I also tried the Smoothing Cream which felt soooo nice on but this made me break out too which I am dissappointed at as it made my skin look and feel good (before it went red and rashy!). If I could give barrier repair a 0 score I would.

i experienced a HORRIBLE reaction to a different cream that caused disgusting scaly patches all over my face and under my eyes. after searching high and low for anything that would help, i turned to a sample of barrier repair i got and used it on top of my moisturizer. the next day my skin was super soft and the dry patches were almost gone. for the following 2 days, i used it before i went to bed and after i woke up and it literally repaired my (broken) skin.

this MUST be used ON TOP of a moisturizer; it's NOT a moisturizer on it's own. i use this to "seal in" my moisturizer and it helps keep my skin calm and clear. it's also awesome under makeup!

Awesome awesome product, why I didn't try it earlier? I always think Dermalogica is another brand that 'pretend' to be the skincare expert. I tried a free sample first and I am addicted to it! I used it before I apply make up as a primer and it make my skin so smooth and not cause any break out. I am now getting a new tube but it is very pricey! But it is still worth it, because it is really the only product keep my skin clear and still feel good after I take my make up off. I am now trying the clearing mattifer and compare the two. But this moisturizer contains vitamins c and e which sounds even better! At least I thought it is healthy for my skin :-)

I have rosacea coupled with hypersensitivity and really struggle to find anything my skin will tolerate.

Very disappointed with this product as it claims to be for hypersensitive skin but just caused the usual redness/irritations/hives I get from other products. Is very drying even over my moisturiser.

People seem to think this product by itself will moisturize, IT WON'T. Hello, look at the name. BARRIER REPAIR. This is a great product when used as it is supposed to be. I am on an aggressive retinoid treatment for acne that leaves my skin exposed and dry. I use the ultra calming serum underneath this barrier repair and have had beyond amazing results. This product probably got a bad name because of all the air heads on here that can't read the bottle. It is designed for (and I quote, off the bottle!!) "Recommended for sensitized, reactive, and recently resurfaced skin." This ISN'T a moisturizing lotion, nor does it claim to be. And it can clog your pores when you pile it on. Don't be stupid. Apply a thin layer (as stated on the bottle) on top of a moisturizer that works for you, and it will seal in the moisture to help your skin heal. I can't state for how it works under makeup, as I stopped wearing makeup to give my skin the chance to heal. And I am so happy with the results. Once I am done with the retinoids, I probably won't need this product anymore. But for right now, I can't do without. It's a twice daily staple in my skin care regimen.

This was recommended to me after a Dermalogica skin consultation. I used it for about 2 weeks. In the mornings I cleansed my skin then put this on. I would then spend the next few hours feeling very aware of how dry and uncomfortable my skin felt. My skin needs a good drink in the mornings, and this stuff just sits on the surface and doesn't moisturise my skin at all.

I don't like the silicone base of this 'moisturiser' at all. It's useful as a primer, but not as good as other primers on the market.

This might suit someone with normal skin who wants a primer and moisturiser in one.

This is a decent moisturizer, but definitely not enough for my skin during the winter, especially with the topical retinoids that I use. Perhaps for the summer this would be a better fit for my combination skin. I do like the anhydrous, silicone-based texture.

I bought this and used for about 3 months. First it seems alright as i cannot used and mosturizer before. My skin just too sensitive and oily. It is oil based mosturizer. It is ok for a while but then it start clogging my pores. I develop many little pumps after using it for a while

LOVED this! Had a bad reaction to the special cleansing gel that caused me to get painful blind pimples on my cheeks and the barrier repair has sorted out the problem in 2 days :)

Am using all the calming products and will never go back! I use barrier repair as a targeted treatment along with active moist moisturizer so it lasts super long!

Will definitely continue using!

EDIT: have stopped using the active moist moisturizer and opted for Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream Light which so far has made my skin very comfortable. Am using the calming cleanser which I still love - perfect for sensitive skin.

Awful. Doesn't moisturize AT ALL - just coats the skin giving it a smooth feel. My skin is sensitive and very dry in winter so I thought some sort of barrier cream might be useful. Underneath it my skin just got drier and drier and then started breaking out in little pink bumps - like my skin just couldn't breathe at all with that silicone layer. It might make a good primer - over a moisturizer.

I love this product. I have given it 4 lippies because of the price- ouch! It glides on and doesn't irritate my awkward skin at all. I have really temperamental skin- oily, dry, sensitive, break-outs, you name it- and this seems to not aggravate any of those conditions. I was using it with the calming spray but found that was too oily so now I use this on it's own and it is great. It does moisturise, despite being a 'barrier' just enough for me- my skin produces a lot of oil so after cleansing I guess this just helps to keep natural moisture in and prevent environmental damage from aggravating my skin. It's a great make-up base too. I use a more serious moisturiser at night (currently Elemis tri-enzyme resurfacing cream) so do not need a heavy moisturiser during the day. I find that on days when I don't use barrier repair my skin gets very oily and prone to break-outs. Love this stuff!

This is way expensive! THe esthetist made me try it when my face was badly breaking out from adjusting to the weather here. I loved how it glided on my skin. It made my otherwise rough, patchy and extremely irritated skin gain some smoothness back. The sample lasted for days, and I loved it because it's also a good primer for make up. Sadly, once I ran out, I couldnt buy anymore because of the price. sigh...
