I used this product after an operation back in 2003, caused me to lose and inordinate amount of hair.
It worked really well.
Saying that, something has changed about the product since that time
It is no longer the blue minty formula it once was. It has changed hands and the new company that took it over changed the formulation.
I am still going to try it however I worry I may be wasting my time and money. I will update

I've used this for a few years and never had any probs. It didn't dry my hair out like it did for some. I didn't like spending so much, but dh liked it so I kept buying it. Last time I bought it I noticed they changed the formula a bit. It still has the nice minty smell and it lathers more than it used to, but now it tangles my hair horribly! Even when I use conditioner it still tangles. Dh doesn't like the changes either, so I won't be buying this again. I'll save my money and go back to drugstore brands. The only reason I didn't give it a 1 is for the smell and lather. On a side note, they changed the conditioner too. grrr

So let's talk about my hair, which is now medium length and naturally flat, straight, and thin; and my scalp which would feel like an oil slick if I neglected to wash daily, and how this product has made my hair look much fuller, thicker and healthier. While it's not the miracle shampoo I've been searching for (as I clearly don't have diva locks) after the first few weeks of using it, I noticed a fullness and shine that I hadn't seen much of before. I know people dislike the minty smell, but I really love it. My scalp feels so clean and refreshed after using it, and I will most definitely be buying again.
I paid about $50 (Canadian) for this product. Although I've NEVER paid that much for shampoo, I've been using it daily for about three months and there's still about 35% percent left. All you really need is a small bit, and it builds a good lather for me, and the bottle's pretty sizeable, so it should last you a long time. In fact, I strongly believe that I'd have even more left in that bottle at the moment if my brother and my dad didn't use it as well!

okay, people, make sure you are using the right system for your hair. after reading some of the reviews and their negative comments, i had to explain. the system one is for naturally thin hair. NOT for hair that is thinning. if your hair is thinning, use system 2.
system 3 is for chemically treated hair (color, perm, etc.) for naturally thin hair.
system 4 is for chemically treated hair that is thinning.
systems 5, 6, 7, and 8 are for thicker or more coarse hair. by thicker, i mean the individual hair is thick.
huge difference. if your hair is thinning and your using system 1, no wonder it doesnt work because you have the wrong system!
if you have the correct system for your hair, its an amazing product with awesome results. and delicious smell

I had high hopes for this for my thinning hair. I used it for a while and it increased my hair loss by a LOT. So now i am trying to fix the mess that is my hair thanks to Nioxin. And if you have hair loss problems you know progress is slow going. Do not purchase if you value your hair.

A shampoo i don't gonna buy again i disliked the smell of it.
It's cleans you hair very well, but nothing special further.
Not one for me. Also contains it a lot of variety synthetic ingredients a little bit to much for me.

I can't say it's made my hair thicker or reduced the amount of shedding, but it's a gentle cleanser with a minty scent that doesn't dry out my hair or leave any sort of build-up. My major complaint is that it doesn't lather well with hard water, so I have to use twice the normal amount of shampoo just to get it evenly distributed across my scalp. I have to admit that I've never used it with Nioxin's scalp treatment. Even though this is not a miracle product, I will continue to repurchase because this shampoo is gentler than any of the other salon brands I've tried.

I got the shampoo, conditioner and foam for system 2 (non chemically treated hair) and this stuff did not regrow my hair at all, after months of using it. it maybe slowed it down a tiny bit, but not worth it.

For gals or guys with thin/fine hair, this product is so very good. I started using it when I was losing a ton of hair at a very stressful time in my life, and it really did slow down hair loss. I have kept on using the product because the quality of the ingredients is so very good. Iy you want healthy hair, forget about drug store brands of shampoo/conditioners - they have additives that are not healthy for the scalp or the health if the hair follicles. I wait for a litre sale to come up at my local salon, and then I buy the big bottles at the discount price....the litre size bottles will last for 6-8 months. The conditioner is quite light, and doesn't weigh fine hair down, but it may not be moisturizing enough if you live in a dry climate...in that case, just supplement with a deep conditioning treatment once a week or so. You cannot go wrong with this product line.

I love this product. My parents and I both have very thin hair, and they have been using this stuff for years. I finally tried it and I was impressed. I used it for awhile, ran out, and money was too tight to justify purchasing it...so back to the cheap crap I went...but the second I can afford this stuff again, it will be back in my bathroom. Give it a try. It really helped make my fine hair manageable in the nearly constant humidity I live in!!

This actually made my scalp feel really good and it didn't dry out my hair as expected. Good for occasions when my I get the flakes, as it doesn't strip the scalp. If you have fine or medium textured hair, this is perfect to use on occasion. Remember to leave it in for a couple of minutes before rinsing.

I use the Nioxin smoothing shampoo, the gold color bottle, for some reason the chemically treated shampoo works great on me, but the non-chemicaly treated shampoo doesnt do good for me, feels drying to my hair,. i should stick with this faithfully, my husband uses this alot all the time, it does stop your hair from falling out, i agree with this, because i have long straight hair that comes out a few at a time when i shower, but when I use this, it stops the shedding in the shower, this shampoo and all the lines are A MIRACLE !!!!!!

Like the conditioner, the Nioxin shampoo dried my hair out really bad. It did clean nicely and didn't leave a build up, but it couldn't give me the moisture I need to counteract straightening it everyday with a flat iron. The smell is great, but it's not worth it turning my hair to straw. :( I won't repurchase this line again.

the smell wasn't all that great, but I loved the tingle on the scalp. it was pricey, but it lasted a long time.

My HG shampoo. I love it. I had the worst time finding something for my hair because I have fine bleached hair that was dry at the ends but oily at the scalp, so I had to wash it every day. Most color treated shampoos weighed my hair down and anything else didn't supply enough moisture. I have been using this stuff for almost 4 years now and it is still working wonderfully. My hair is thicker too! Although that is not why I bought it, I am happy with the side effect. I don't know if I actually have more hair or if the hair I already have is thicker, but I don't care as I like the results either way! By the way, this shampoo is now called System 3.

I would describe this in short -- "NIOXIN SUCKS " im 27 f asian with dry damaged hair..i thought to give it a try after reading good reviews here and on the recommendation of my stylist.First 4-5 dayz i thought its working miracle for me as it made my hair smooth shiny BUT after a week or so my hair started falling badly.it made my hair so light from its roots that i could see plenty of hair in my hand when shampooing and same when i comb after towel dry.So i have to STOP and i dont want to wait until my head get bald.I am back with my H&S regular shampoo and conditioner and im happy with it.

I LOVE this shampoo, I have been using this off and on for the past 4 years. when I had my first two kids my hair shed like crazy, so bad that I had spots around my hairline that looked like it was receding, it freaked me out!!! My hair eventually came back and then I got pregnant with our 3rd baby. My stylist had a 1 year old and I asked her if she had lost a bunch of hair after having him and she said "no, I used Nioxin the whole time". I decided to faithfully use my Nioxin my entire pregnancy and after. I am happy to report that I never lost any hair, my hair is still very thick (my baby is 9 months old now). I will never stop using this. It leaves my hair feeling fluffy, clean, never dry. I never feel like I need to switch shampoos like I always did when using other brands. This is definately HG for me!!!!

Ok, i don't understand the gd raves here because this certainly does not work for me after going through a few bottles of this and no, it does not make my hair any healthier or looking gd. It just a basic shampoo nothing more. Won't repurchase.

I did not like this stuff!Okay ,so the active ingredient can make your scalp temporarily red.I saw that before I bought it,but I guess it didn't really register properly in my brain.Every time I would wash the shampoo out of my head in the shower my back would go really red.I mean a very large v shaped
area of red going down my back from the suds going down my back.I need 2 rx
scripts just to keep acne off my neck, shoulders and back.sigh.I don't think daily exposure to this shampoo is a good thing for my back;got enough problems

This is one of those products that I have used for years and I find that if I switch to something else, I start loosing more hair. I also have noticed that my fine hair looks thick and healthy when I use this. I don't think I will switch again. It just works for me. Update - I have been using this product since 1996 and still love it. I use another shampoo once a week and truly notice that I lose more hair that day.
