This base coat really prolongs the life of my manicures/pedicures, it doesn't chip for about 5 days on my fingers and for weeks on my toes. It doesn't stain your nails and protects them pretty well. If your looking for something that'll last awhile I suggest this.

I use this alongside Seche Vite top coat. One thing I would say which is impressive about this is as base coat, is my nails don't get coloured by the varnish I wear. I have noticed with cheaper base coats, the colour of varnish seems to "seep" through, so when you have a day of no colour on your nails, the nails can look dirty - this doesn't happen with this base coat. I can usually guarantee that if I apply my nail colour properly with the base & top coat, my nails will remain chip free for 3 - 4 days.

Got this in a set at CVS with the top coat for $8.99! Great deal! It's not an impressive base coat but it will do for now...

This is a review for Seche Clear Crystal Clear Base Coat. I am using this in conjunction with Seche Vite top coat and have no complaints. I get 2-3 days of wear before chipping, and any chipping I do is minimal, so I can go 1-2 weeks with minor touch ups. No peeling or cracking on the side of my thumb (my space bar thumb) which I normally get. I would definitely buy it again.

First problem I had with this product was trying to get it open! If I dished out 9 bucks for a base coat, you'd think they would have developed some sort of grip for the bottle to make it easier to open. Even fairly cheap brands such as Sally Hansen haven't failed to do this. Anyways, the reason I gave this base coat 1 star was because all it did for me was create an even base for my polish to glide on. It did, however, cause my polish to be more prone to chipping than usual. On just my plain nails, polish adheres much easier whereas on top of this base coat, it sort of just lays on top and peels right off within a couple of days. It literally peels off in like perfect strips, not even chips! It said I could use this as a top coat as well, but it didn't have much shine. Guess I will just stick with the original Seche Vite top coat and search another brand for a good base coat!

I'm a fan of the top coat. So I thought the base coat would be just as fantastic. WRONG! A reviewer below said exactly what I experienced:

"Dries super quickly, but my polish came off in one piece on each nail. Strange. Top coat is way better."

Now I have an almost full bottle and don't know what to do with it. What a waste of money. Don't ever buy this!

I have Seche Vite base and top coat. Both are too thick to use with the bottles still half full.
I think I had better results with Revon top coat. I don't understand why everyone seems to love these products so much.

I got this on super clearance at CVS so I decided to try it since I like the top coat. This stuff was horrible. I noticed while I was talking a shower, my nail polish was coming straight off. Luckily, I was still able to return it. I will not repurchase.

I wasn't crazy about this base coat. When I painted my mom's nails a Spoiled by Wet'n'wild polish for about $2, it stained her nails pretty badly and I was super suprised because I thought that wouldn't happen in a million years because I used a "nice" base coat. It sort of left this chartruese color on her nails (that's the color of the polish). I felt so bad, though! I also tested the color on my nails without a basecoat but wiped it off pretty fast and it stained my thumb nail a bit too. I'm looking for some other base coat that may actually protect our nails. I don't think I ever had a problem with peeling like the others, but it definitely didn't protect them which I think was a total disadvantage for something you do as an extra step mainly to actually protect your nails. I was impressed with the top coat, but it does peel on occasion and it got gloppy after a while. However I gave this one lippy for the brush and a four for price because I feel like I have seen more expensive ones. I gave the packaging a three also for the brush and I did like how I could see how much product I was using. I think it dries pretty fast. I will use it until I can find another, I think, but I just overall don't really reccomend this base coat. Perhaps I can try the ridge filling one if that's any better, but I don't think I will be buying this again.

I bought this at Winners at $7 and so it's a lot cheaper compared to other retail prices.
It works for thin, regular nail polishes, but I don't see a difference for thicker, glittery nail polishes.
It also doesn't dry clear and so it might be a problem for others but not so much for me.
If I had to pay the regular price, I wouldn't repurchase this again. But, since I only got it for $7, I would repurchase it but seeing how little product I have to use each time, I don't see myself finishing this bottle anytime soon.

Meh. This is nothing like my beloved SV top coat. I don't see anything special about this base coat, and it's pretty expensive. I won't be buying this again.

When using a base coat, I look for a few qualities:

Does it have vitamins/minerals to keep my nails healthy?
No, Seche Clear does not.

Does it prevent dark or yellow polish from staining my nails?
No, Seche Clear does not.

Does it dry quickly?
Yes, it dries very quickly.

Does it prevent my polish from peeling?
So far, not really.

I always use Seche Clear and Seche Vite together. My manicures never last more than one or two days before chipping and peeling. In the product's defense, I do work at a bakery. My fingernails are constantly getting messy and washed in super hot water. So I can't blame the peeling entirely on the base coat.

I do like that it dries very fast. But I still get stained fingernails when I use a dark colored polish. I don't think I would buy Seche Clear again. I prefer a base coat with more vitamins/minerals to keep my nails healthy, as well as something that prevents staining.

Back before I discovered the amazing Shellac manicure (a God send for me), I used to do my own nails. Since I know a good base coat is important for a long lasting manicure, I was looking for a good one so I came to MUA to read the reviews. I bought this base coat (along with the Seche Vite top coat) based on the fantastic reviews here and was thoroughly disappointed.

Like a few other reviewers, this just peeled off my nails in one fail swoop. I even tried using it without polish or a top coat and it still peeled off. One coat, two coats...didn't matter...still peeled off, usually in one sheet. Now this bottle just sits in my drawer collecting dust. Total waste of $7.

I honestly do NOT know why people would rate this as the best top coat. It IS SO HORRIBLE that I would RATHER buy a nail polish from the $1 store! It peels off EVERYTIME, I touch something, ANYTHING I TOUCH. Whether its dry or not, it WILL peel within a blink of an eye. Hate it. Worst Top Coat ever, I'm better off buying a cheap one. This does NOT deserve to be even worth a $1.

I bought this and the top coat because I always heard great things about them. I like the top coat but the base coat is HORRIBLE! I paid about $7 for it witch is a little pricey considering I could get a Sally Hansen base coat for like $2. This goes on well and dries pretty fast but my nail polish will peel off within 1 hour, I am not kidding! It has a really watery consistancy but I do like the size of the brush. This also smells really really bad, like a normal nail polish scent but x100000 time stronger. It takes me forever to remove my polish with nail polish remover when I use this base coat but I could just peel off all my nail polish. I would not reccomend this unless you want your nail polish to peel in like 30 mins after you paint them. I might give this to a friend or just throw it out. I will not be repurchasing. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps.

I used this for a few polishes and it started turning white and flaking at the edges around my polish. It made my nails look horrible. I threw it in the trash. Seche Vite makes a terrific top coat, but base coat not so much.

This clear base coat was nothing special and I would definitely never repurchase. This did not help my polish last longer, in fact I feel my polish would peel off, nor did it do a good job of protecting my nails. One positive I will say is that it dries fairly quickly. The product ended up drying up pretty quickly & turning colour so I just threw it out. Do not recommend and will never buy again.

Seche Vite has 4 different kind of base coats, so the reviews on this page can be unclear. It would be great if people can state which one they are reviewing. One reviewer below said the formula was 'milky white' and applied as a pearl. My bottle is 100% clear. My review is for the "SECHE CLEAR" base coat. The other base coats are called Seche Base, Plus, and Natural (See seche's website for details on them)

Application: It's went on smooth, and it was very easy to apply a thin layer. It leaves a slight gloss on your nails. By the time I painted all fingers, my first hand was completely dry.

Wear: With this base coat, I didn't see chips until the 3rd or 4th day. Even after the 4th day, the chips are tiny - you can barely notice. My daily routine consists of transit, school, housework (cooking, cleaning) and other light activities. I have been using this for a month now with OPI, China glaze and Sally Hansen brand polishes. All have resulted in improved wear with this base coat. I included a picture of the bottle with my nails at day 2.

Yellowing: I took a picture of my natural nails every week since I started using this, but I didn't see a significant improvement. At least I can safely say that this product didn't make the staining worse. I bought some denture tablets today, so I will update if Seche prevents my nails from becoming tainted again. It will be easier to tell if white turns to yellow.

Overall: I really liked this. It has become my go to base coat. It has a nice formula, goes on smoothly, prevents chipping and prevents further staining. I've tried many base coats, and this is my favorite so far. =D
