I got this because I was looking for a scrub and I'm obsessed with Origin's Ginger scent. The scent is divine, as usual. On the upside, if you have dry skin, the oil in the body scrub is super moisturizing and very nice. However, the salt grains in this scrub are large and rounded, which means they dont really exfoliate well. I usually feel bad about returning cosmetics, but I'm going to return this to Macy's tomorrow because 30 dollars is a bit ridiculous for a scrub that is half as good as some other scrub you could find in the drugstore for 5 bucks.

I received this as a gift. There was nothing about this product that I liked. It was extremely hard scooping it out of the jar and I detest the smell. I used it after cleansing my body in the shower and it left my legs feeling like I slathered on something fierce. I don't even know how to describe the feeling except like someone else stated - Exxon-Valdez oil spill!!! I tried to get some off with some soap -- wasn't happening. I was stuck with this crap on my legs and it coated my bathtub (I don't remember how many times I had to scrub the tub to get that stuff off). It's like the super glue of oil. Not even a smooth feeling oil but somewhat grimy without the grit. Totally disgusting. I moisturize my body everyday but this stuff is ridiculous. I can't recommend it. I couldn't even make myself give my jar to someone else. I would have reused the jar (that's the only nice thing = 1 lippie) but it would have been too much effort to clean the jar out. It went into the trash.

Awesome scrub, awesome smell, skin smooth as heaven. The best body scrub that I have ever used. Just be careful if you use this standing under the shower because it is kind of oily, don't break your neck! Would buy again!

I loved the smell of the Origins ginger line. That is the reason, that I decided to give this scrub a try. The only thing I like about it is its nice smell. And that's it. It leaves a greasy film on your skin & it is not easy to get the grease off the skin. Besides it does not really scrub well. It stung my skin really bad. I will not use it anymore. It was a total waste of money.

I have very dry, very sensitive skin and love love love this product. I agree that it does not truly exfoliate, but in the shower I grab a handful and smooth it all over, head to toe (even after shaving). I smell great after and my skin is very soft. I have never experienced any kind of redness, burning or itching after using (and I am the poster child for sensitive skin). I love the scent and will continue to purchase this product as long as Orgins makes it.

I agree that this stuff actually caused me PAIN. My skin felt like it was on fire. To make matters worse, it's so oily that it caused a slick in my bathtub and the oil made opening/closing the lid that much harder.

Ow! Ow! Ow! Oooowwwwooooiiiieeee!!! I am pretty sure the entire point of this product is to rip all of your skin off and smash a thick burning spicey oil into it to make you cry a little. Then maybe you will appreciate your skin for what it was once you get the feeling back in your trembling legs. I worked for origins for a bit and thought, why not, give it a go, it must be wonderful if they make their sales people push it so hard! I used it once. Never. ever. again. I would compare my results to that of a descaled oily sea bass...not that I have ever seen one.

It's pricey, and it doesn't really "exfoliate" - but, what I LOVE is the scent, and how smooth and soft it makes my skin feel. I agree with other people, it is oily, but for those of us w/ dry skin, it's AMAZING. You don't need to use moisturizer after, and I love the scent so much that I'll even dip my hands back in it to get the oil and rub it on my skin before I go out just for the scent! It is pricey for what it is though... definitely a "luxury" fun item. I've got strawberry blonde hair and freckles, so when my boyfriend smells this he yells out "ginger kid"!!!!! He likes it too, but I don't think as much as I do. He'd be happy if I bathed myself in vanilla scented everything for the rest of my life. (Although I still haven't found a great scented vanilla yet)

What mizzou-NYC said. This smells lovely and that's it. It leaves a thick greasy film all over you and the bath and great red welts over you where you've scrubbed. I was really disappointed with this because I love Origins creams.

I used to love this. I don't know if I've gotten a lot more sophisticated or the product itself has degenerated, but not this just seems like a slippery, greasy health hazard, the smell of which makes me feel like I'm in a seafood restaurant (???). It doesn't exfoliate so much as it puts down a layer of oil that would do the Exxon-Valdez proud, which I personally don't need. Also, is there anyone's shower the dingdangity jar actually fits into?

I really looked at the reviews on here before writing this one, b/c I was so shocked to see such bad reviews on it. I noticed that the positive reviews come from people who mostly say they have dry skin, which is why they probably don't complain about the oil that is left afterwards. I too have dry skin and I ADORE this product, the scent, the softness a good scrub SHOULD give- it really gets off that top dead layer and brings out the new skin underneath while conditioning it with the ginger scented oil that it leaves afterwards- ooooooh, I looooove it. I understand the comment about the oil left in the tub...but I need oil anyway on my body, so I would have to scrub my tub regardless. For me this is just a fantastic, beautiful, well made, exfoliating product.

I got this as a gift and was very enthused to try it out. This product is NOT FOR ME. I do not have sensitive skin and I found that the salt granules were way, way, way too rough, large, course, and harsh. I started first on my tummy and it made red streaks and started to burn and I wasn't even pressing hard....I wouldn't even use it on my feet. I also found the oil in it too greasy and after I quickly washed off the stuff from my body I felt grossed out as I felt like I was covered with vegetable shortening....I also had to break out baking soda and some AJAX to get the greasy residue out of my tub so I wouldn't fall and break my neck next time I stepped in the tub. Yuck.
The one positive I have to say about this product is that it smelled nice.

i didn't like this. it stung when i put it on me and left me with red bumps. my skin isn't too sensitive but it may have been sensitive to whatever was in this. they gave me no problem returning it for a full return after i showed them my red bumps. i used trader joe's tangerine sugar scrub after this w/o a problem.

after a stressful day, i step into the shower. soap up with my purpose bar soap, rinse off, and then give myself a full body massage with this yummy salt scrub. i wait till all the salt granules dissolve before stepping back into the shower and turning the heat up. i then pat myself dry with a towel to leave a lot of the moisture in. this scrub has such a relaxing fragrance that i sleep like a baby and my skin is baby soft the next morning. i try to pay special attention to my feet, knees, and elbows.
the packaging though is another story. it is beautiful because it is glass, but the clasp is flimsy and the rubber lining keeps coming off. ulg...

I really like the Origins line of ginger based products. So I could not wait to try this. It smells great. It is a very coarse scrub and is hard to remove. I had to wipe off the residue with a towel. Because it leaves such a heavy film on the skin I am now only using this product on my hands and feet.

the only thing i don't care for is the packaging---i wish the jar was not glass. i love this and usually layer it with the Ginger Souffle afterwards. my skin feels so soft and lasts a long time. i love the scent. i have to say this is a favorite of mine!

A good scrub to use in the shower, left my skin feeling nice and smooth for about 10 minutes. Now I have a strange after-feel, and I smell a little funky too. Not too crazy for the smell and is quite expensive! Over $40 CDN for 8 oz. No thanks, will finish the tub, but won't buy.

I'm surprised to see the less-than-enthusiastic reviews on this one - it's my favorite salt scrub in the world. The scent it grand, as I like ginger - but more important is the unbelievable smoothness this lends my skin. I have extremely dry (think Arizona desert) skin, and a bath with this followed by ginger souffle leaves me soft as a baby. It's also delicious on warm skin, as my husband is fond of telling me! Have tried a similar scrub from Bath and Body Works, but the ginger scent keeps me returning to Origins. One caution, however - do NOT use this product after shaving - it will sting.
