I am a hair product junkie because I have EXTREMELY fine, thin hair and this is the ONLY product I have ever used that will hold any shape in my hair longer that 15 minutes!! You can't brush thru your hair once it's on, but you shouldn't have to- impossible hair stays in place :) My short hair is usually flat against my head but running my fingers thru it and scrunching it with this product on my hands gives it some character and style!

I agree with the poster who said it's like Elmer's glue in a Redken bottle with a higher price tag. I got it to help train my bangs to the side, but it is too heavy and too sticky. If you use more than the tiniest amount, your hair sticks in clumps.

I started using this product a few years ago because it was a "Gift With Purchase" trial size. It did look exactly a bottle of glue! I was a bit leary of putting anything called 'glue' in my thin, baby-fine, shoulder-length,high-lighted hair, but I gave it a try.
I personally did not notice any fragrance/odor.
It takes firm pressure to dispense and the bottle remains in the "squeezed in the middle" position. Don't leave any product on the twist-to-close nozzle, as it will dry and clog the tip--just like Elmer's!
Initially, I found Paul Mitchell Extreme Thickening Glue nearly impossible to emulsify. Here's the key: I have learned to use a miniscule amount (tiny pea size) on WET hands, rub briskly to emulsify and distribute the PMETG on and in BETWEEN my FINGERS so I can use them to "comb" it through damp or dry hair.
It does provide much needed texture and body to thin, fine hair!! My hair actually looks and feels thicker with this stuff!! It also seems to seal the cuticle, giving my dry ends a smoother, healthier appearance. Too much near the roots, however, makes my hair look greasy. Again, a little goes a LONG way! The trial size lasted forever!
I recently purchased a full size bottle of PMETG and may never HAVE to repurchase! My guess is the product will dry out or solidify before I ever reach the bottom of the bottle!

I love this stuff! I've been using it for a couple of years now, and this is the only product I've ever tried that makes my chin-length, razored, super-fine hair look super-thick. I honestly don't notice a smell at all. I think the glue bottle is cute, although it makes for interesting conversations at sleepovers. ;) (i.e. Friend: Is that /glue/? Me: No, it's just hair glue. Friend: *odd look* Me: It's Paul Mitchell Extreme Thickening Glue.) The only problem is that it makes your hair stick together. It will *look* soft and tousled, but if you try to run your hands through it, you might just get them stuck! Anyway, this is my HG texture and volume product.

I'd have to agree with lil_me. This is Elmer's glue without the Elmer's label, but at a higher price. It smells like Elmer's and it has the same properties as Elmer's. It's a sticky mess. As someone else said, you have to work really fast after you get this in your hair since it dries quickly. I don't work fast when styling my short hair. I'm never happy with the first result, so I mess it up and play with it more. You can't do that with Elmer's....er, I mean PM Extreme Thickening Glue. After going thru a Kiwi period, I've gone back to ARtec's Textureline Material paste. It's not sticky, it doesn't smell like Elmer's, and it's MUCH easier to work with.

I have straight, short hair with no body and am always looking for a product that will keep my hair spiked and tousled the way I like. I've tried so many paste products but always have to use hairspray after to get the style to hold. The glue is the best! I use it every morning, just a tiny bit in my hand, spike out my hair and I'm out the door. No spray needed. To be honest, I haven't even noticed the smell! The only downfall is you have to work fast. It sets up pretty quickly so there's not a lot of play time. I will definitely buy again!

I read the other reviews about how it smelled bad and I do have to admit that at first it smells really 'interesting', but I had over 10 people smell my hair for me after applying it and they said it smelled fine and after a while you get used to it. It is a very nice consistence. It's very thick and full of fibers which I like. It held good, and I would use it and recommend it for someone that wants that type of an effect for there hair that it does provide. It leaves a sticky feeling in your hair, but your hair is totally non sticky. What I mean is you put your hand to your head and it feels sticky, but you go to feel your hand afterwards and you feel nothing. Very easy to remove as well. I like it better then Ice Spiker. People that go for Liberty spikes and all those type of spiking would want to give this a try, as it holds like glue but won't snap your hair off as glue and its totally fine to sleep with. Also the price is much cheaper then Ice Spiker or Xtah Bondage. BTW this product doesn't leave you with a shiny hard finish. It has a firm, but mattish finish. Very interesting for someone who doesn't always want a hard very shiny finish. After using this product for 3 days I love it. It is perfect for holding curly hair straight.

I thought it was a cute marketing tactic to use a glue bottle to package the product, but after using it I know why they did it. They removed the Elmer's Glue label and replaced it with theirs and sold it for 700% more! It looks, feels, smells, and holds like glue! A big gooey mess...

I have a love/hate relationship with Extreme Thickening Glue. It is without question the best product I have found for creating spiky ends in my chin-length razor-cut 'do: it glues without grease, and so the ends stay defined all day (with other products, notably BedHead's The Manipulator, there is so much oil and wax that in practically no time all my individually-defined ends have gotten stuck together to create one mega-gooey end--never quite the look I intended...). HOWEVER--and this is a deal-breaker however--the scent is sooooo bad that I cannot stand myself when I use it. It fades over time somewhat, but it never goes away entirely, and I have never been able to get used to it. It really does smell like glue, so I give PM a thumbs-up for their quirky authenticity, but a huge practical thumbs down. I love the way this stuff works, but I don't think I will ever use or buy it again.
