I unhappily went through an entire bottle of this, hoping that the bad results were part of the "detox phase" that happens when switching to organic shampoo. After two months....I give up.
It left my hair dry and brittle, with a weird oily residue on the scalp...basically like I hadn't washed my hair at all. Frustrating. It made my hair duller than usual, and didn't help with growth. It smelled very faintly of mint....no real lavender smell ...
I've been deep conditioning like crazy to try to reverse the effects of this shampoo. Never again. Yuck. The end.

As a first timer of using organic shampoos, my hair didn't cooperate so well with this product, my hair felt like straw the first time, and it was a bit drier than my previous shampoos left it. I guess it's all apart of the detoxing process. In my opinion my Dove shampoo and Argan Magic shampoo didn't seem to damage my hair at all even with the sulfates in it. I guess I wanted to hop onto the anti sulfate wagon because I would do anything for my hair to reap any benefit it could get at this point. The shampoo isn't bad, it does cleanse the hair, it does have an amazing scent to it, but the lather isn't that great and it does make my hair kinda slippery, leaving the strands more prone to breakage. I feel like it's done a lot for my hair growth, and it has added much shine to my hair. I think I will continue using it.

I really thought I would really like this product because i love the smell of lavender and because it says it's nourishing but it did BAD things with my hair!!!!!
It made my hair even dryer and brittle, my hair broke more eaisily. The bigist problem I had with this product was that my hair started to fall out more than normal!!! Usually some hair would fall out in the shower a lil and when i brushed it after I woke up. BUT after I used this hair product with its conditioner my hair was falling out like crazy my brush started to fill up with hair after only one use, there was hair all over my pillow when i woke up in the morning, and through out the day I would find myself pulling hair off my clothes. My hair felt dryer then it ever had before and it was devistating.
I would not recomend this product to anyone!!!!

I've used 2 bottles of this (both 32 fl oz) and I absolutely think it's amazing. I use it every other day and believe me, my hair feels great! I get compliments on it all the time. This also doesn't weigh your hair down which is a big plus since I like my voluminous hair. I will probably use this forever.

My HG shampoo and I've never ever had a problem with it. My biggest problem with shampoos is scalp irritation and this is the only shampoo brand EVER to cure my irritation. Yes even other organic brands have nothing on this one. I love how if I accidentally over wash my hair is still stunning and soft. I recently tried switching this up with another organic brand to save a couple of bucks...needless to say the other brand was okay but I'm sticking with this one and probably for the rest of my life.

I tried the new formula summer 2011 and it is fantastic. I'm over 50 with dry hair, and this shampoo was gentle and moisturizing. Left my hair shiny and silky, even after blow-drying and daily use.

This was my first "organic" shampoo. I wanted to get away from SLS. And I love the smell of lavender. But after just a few uses this broke my scalp out in a horrible red, oozing rash. I had to toss it. There went $9.99....in the garbage.

I recently tried Avalon's Lavender Shampoo & Lavender Conditioner after sniffing the bottles for years. lol
I'd say that the reviews for both are sadly accurate. This shampoo is basic, which is fine. It isn't really moisturizing or drying. It cleans just fine but doesn't strip my hair. I love the Lavender scent but it doesn't last. :-(
I put that I would repurchase but I'm not sure. The main draw for me-the scent- doesn't even last andas a shampoo it's not special. Plus the conditioner is pretty drying. So, yeah.

Sigh another useless bottle of organic shampoo I have tried. I got this one at my local hannaford since it was on clearance for $4 and I really wanted to try one of these. Organic and SLS free shampoo has been a savior for my hair its alot less frizzy and feels much healthier and looks shiner instead of using all those other toxic hair care products. However this shampoo didnt do anything at all but make my hair weighted down and greasy. Ive given this shampoo numberous chances and still by the next day my hair looks dirty and feels weighted down. The only thing I do like about this shampoo is the scent. The lavendar does not smell fake or cheap it smells relaxing and is really a pick me up in the shower. Overall just another full bottle of shampoo on my vanity and I do not reconmend.

I used to wash my hair with toxic shampoos and conditioners like Pantene, Herbal Essences, etc. But when I learned the dangers of chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate and preservatives like parabens, I knew I needed a healthy alternative.
I tried Avalon Organics because it is an all natural product, with 70% from organic content and 100% vegetarian ingredients. Of course, I knew my hair wouldn't look as picture perfect as Pantene would make it, but I decided the risk was worth it.
The Lavender Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner leaves my hair feeling strong, healthy, shiny, and smells amazing! The shampoo lathers well. My hair doesn't get tangled but I must admit it felt brittle after the first couple of washes.
Our hair goes through a type of "detox" phase when switching to organic alternatives. It is similar to when we change to an organic facial cleanser, and your face detoxes by cleaning itself and leaving junk out on your face sometimes but soon it looks clean again. With hair, it feels brittle and dry after the switch, but once you're about halfway through the bottle, your hair gets used to it, and moisture gets restored. Make it a habit to use organic hair products, that way you don't always have to detox and will genuinely have healthier hair than most people out there. (Did you know that Herbal Essences uses petroleum, the oil used to run cars, in their products?) Remember, natural is beautiful and your hair will thank you for it!

This was a very blah shampoo for me. I've been using natural shampoo for quite some time, so I have a good idea of what to expect. This didn't deliver. My hair was left dry and limp. No shine. None of the natural highlights I'm used to seeing.
Pass.

Today I purchased Avalon Organics Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner. It is by far the absolute best shampoo and conditioner I have ever used (and I've tried everything from drugstore to department store lines)!
The product is 70% organic, which doesn't bother me much, considering I briefly shampooed my hair with baking soda and water at an attempt to be eco-friendly. It lathers well, smells amazing too!
I can't say enough about the conditioner though! It feels very heavy but I left it on my hair for 3 minutes (on the bottle, 1-3 minutes minimum is recommended) and my medium thickness, dry, brittle hair is soft, manageable, movable and super shiny!
I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone! Especially those of you with hair like mine. Hair that doesn't stay straight, curly, frizz-free, this is my hg conditioner without a doubt (:

I really tried to like this shampoo. I was on the hunt for an SLS-free shampoo to replace the naughty ones I've been using my whole life, but this made me dread washing my hair.
Although the smell is lovely, it made my long hair very tangled. It also does not lather very much at all so I ended up trying to compensate by using a lot of it (which didn't really make things that much better). It now sits on the ledge of my bathtub half-used, which is such a waste. This might work for you if your hair is not prone to getting tangled; otherwise, I would not recommend this at all.

I think this product is very misleading. I only bought this because I thought it was a nontoxic shampoo. When I looked it up on EWG's Skin Deep site, it showed it has a moderate toxicity hazard. I was expecting this to be a very green product. Aside from that, this seemed a little harsh like a typical drug store shampoo.*******UPDATE******I no longer trust EWG but I still don't like some of the ingredients in this shampoo.

This product is OK. I find that there are much better organic shampoos out there to buy that do a better job. I had to use quite a bit of shampoo in order to get it into a good lather in my hair. Also I find that sometimes my hair would still feel dirty after I would use the shampoo and would have to shampoo it again. The smell was really nice and I liked all the ingredients in the product, however I would not buy this again.

This shampoo gets top marks from me because it is the ONLY one I found that I can use without making my scalp break out in a scaly rash. I hope they never stop making this. For a while, I experienced some of the problems mentioned here (dry hair, shampoo not lathering), but after a couple of months of continuous use my hair is soft and my scalp is getting healthier by the day. Also, it seems like the shampoo lathers better now, but maybe I am just used to it. I like the way it smells, but it doesn't linger. The smell seems to disappear as soon as your hair is dry.
I want to note that the reason that I stuck with this shampoo is because I noticed my scalp started improving within a few days of starting with it. (My scalp did NOT go through a stage where it got worse first, so if you experience your scalp getting worse, I advise you to stop using this.)

I used to use this a long time ago and liked it, along with the corresponding conditioner. I think they must have changed the formula in the last few years, because when I tried it again, I was left with the worst itchy scalp to the point of scabs, plus my hair simply didn't feel clean enough, and it also felt dry and coated at the same time, a very common problem with shampoos and conditioners from the natural food stores it seems. I hate to say that last, as usually I'm a fan of good natural products whenever possible, but this combo sure didn't make it for me. I ended up giving the combo for my husband to use. He eventually ended up having to use a Neutrogena anti-dandruff shampoo to get his scalp straightened out. I scurried back to Pantene for a LONG time after that. Now I'm on a modified "curly girl" routine(2c-3a hair and I get way better results using a cheap conditoner plus a moisturizing one, but not these products! Big thumbs down, for products that I wanted to like!

I really do love this stuff! The smell, I think, is very indulgent and really relaxing! and it gently cleans my coarse, thick, and wavy hair wonderfully! I'm also thrilled that its natural, so I'm not absorbing nasty chemicals and preservatives in my body via my scalp! I'm so glad I decided to try it and I'd suggest to anyone looking for a more natural alternative.

I bought this because I wanted to use an SLS free shampoo. I really like it! In combination with my Nature's Gate Tea Tree Mint Conditioner, my hair looks really good! And I don't even put anything in my hair anymore. No biosilk, hair serum, nothing!! I have to wash my hair everyday or else my scalp gets oily or itchy and this product is perfect for everyday use without drying my scalp. I love this product and am interested in trying other products with this brand.

Love this shampoo. I am growing my hair long and this does not cause any damage. A huge difference from other shampoos, (pantene, aveeno, herbal essenses, etc) now my hair has a chance of growing out, I can tell by how healthy and thick this shampoo has made it.
