If you've been a hard-core devotee, like me, of Erno Laszlo's Conditioning Preparation, you'll most likely be disappointed by this new formulation since it is NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL CONDITIONING PREPARATION.
Gone is the Resorcinol (it's now considered prescription-worthy), as well as several other ingredients that made it a standout in it's class.
Here is a list of the NEW ingredients: (note that water is listed twice)
1. Water
2. Denatured Alcohol
3. Witch Hazel
4. Water
5. Glycerin
6. Polysorbate 20: an emulsifier that's necessary when OIL and water need to mix
7. Salicylic Acid: I like this ingredient, always have, always will, but unfortunately, that's not enough to prevent this CP from leaving a sticky residue on my skin :(
8. Phenoxyethanol: It is a colorless *** OILY *** liquid. Look that up and see the interesting info.
$45.00? I think not. I'll go to Target and get Boots Expert for less than $5.00 as it performs the same as this new reformulated conditioning preparation. I bought it in desperation during the months I was waiting for Laszlo to stock the shelves again. I'm not crazy about the drugstore stuff, but it beats paying 10x the price for the same ingredients as CP. Grrrrr! I notice that Nordstrom no longer carries the conditioning preparation after all the bad reviews.

Another great E.L. product that has been ruined by the new formulation imho! Look at the ingredients and see if you can't buy the same thing in a drugstore for less than ten dollars? This cond. prep used to be great at keeping blk. heads at bay so I gladly paid the price. Now meh....I think not!

I'm having a hormonal cystic acne flare up and after reading raving reviews of this product on its "effectiveness" to control oil AND fight acne, I decided to get it. I have been using it for a month now, at nights, and it's not worth the $40+tax. It really has't change oil production or reduced zits. I also do not like that they add perfume nor do I like any of the other ingredients for that matter. No I will not buy this again and can wait until I use it up because I dislike wasting money in unused products.

This is my night toner. I have long wanted to use EL products, but didn't know where to start. This is wonderful. It does sting momentarily when applied, but that fades quickly. I have no blemishes, and I have to think that this is the primary reason why. I do wish this came with a pump, but I'll manage just fine as is.

Not the toner for my clock (normal/combination), but I got it anyway for spot treatment. It can zap a bump coming out overnight! It is very strong so I don't use it on the entire face, and use it before bed only.

This is a great product for acne prone skin. I live in a humid environment and have blemishes on occasion. This toner helps clear the skin with retinol and helps decrease the severity of break outs. I never receive compliments, but when I combined this toner with erno laszlo blemish control lotion, someone commented that my skin looked like porcelain.. No wonder Nicole Kidman and Hillary Duff like this products..they actually work well! just make sure that you choose the regimen for your skin type... (fyi ebay has some of these products for a cheaper price if cost is an issue).

I'm not sure why so many people like this product. It smells like really strong aftershave. I think it tones my face ok, but its just really strong. I do have more oily skin but after using about 3 days now its really dry feeling. Again, the smell got on my nerves, its not flowery or anything like that but a strong alcoholic content smell and it smells more manly. It left my face too dry to keep using.

FANTASTIC! In my cleansing, I use the phelityl oil, sea mud soap, light controlling lotion (a.m. only), conditioning prep (p.m. only). This CP is wonderful at controlling oil and contains Resorcinol which helps maintain the appearance of clear skin. I have yet to be disappointed with this product. This is just the little extra I need in my routine to assure myself that a nasty breakout, at any time of the month, will NOT occur. I do not need to purchase any acne treatments because CP does the job! If I notice a few black/white heads or a small pimple I cleanse my face as usual and then use this for two days, morning and night, and the bumps will literally disappear!!
I have normal/slighly oily skin.. I used to have extremely oily, blackhead/whiteheads galore, uneven skin. I believe that using EL products for three years straight have made my skin beautiful! I do not have to wear foundation... not even powder and people ask where I buy my make up from. I hope this works for everyone the way it has worked for me. Good Luck ladies!
P.S. this does not sting or bother my sensitive skin. some ladies make it sound like the alcohol is overwhelming, but it's tolerable to me, especially with the results I have in the a.m.

This toner is AMAZING! All the blackheads on and around my nose are gone! And the minor breakouts that were on my chin have vanished. It is definitely strong and stings a little on contact, but it has never dried out my skin. I use it throughout the day as well if my skin gets oily. I HIGHLY recommend this stuff.

Although I am not the right skin type to use this product, which is intended for oily to very oily skin, since I had it in the house for my teenager who uses it at least 2 times a day and loves it, I recently tried it on the start of a whitehead pimple, and poof, just like magic, two hours later it was gone. I used a very very warm, almost hot wash cloth over the spot, gently pressed the sides of the spot with the towel, put a pin-head sized dot of the conditioning preparation on the top of the spot, then a bit of Erno Laszlo pHormula 3-9 over it, and that was it. That took care of it. This product is VERY strong, and I was so afraid of it burning my skin, but it didn't. I could never, as a person with normal to slightly dry skin, use this product as an overall toner, but using it as I did, it did the job I wanted it to. I have seen that this is very good at drying up teenage acne. I put the price of this as middle of the road because I bought it at a discount place for 60% off the full retail price. I wish this came in a smaller bottle for people like me who don't use it daily. Approach this product with extreme caution if you do not have oily to very oily skin. It is so strong, that I've heard it can take off nail polish!

I use the conditioning prep with the 2:00 ritual. I had a little trouble figuring out my clock as my skin changed due to retin-a and proactiv. I thought I had dry skin but it was just angry skin so once I started EL my skin got back to being the oil slick it used to be in my teens. FUN! This toner removes any residual makeup (which you shouldn't have if you're doing the splashing!) and leaves my skin so soft. Yes, it tingles a little. But I don't care as my acne is totally gone and my skin is soft and even. My redness has disappeared. I told my sister (who has rosacea) about this line and she totally pooh-poohed it due to the hot water and the alcohol in the toner. My broken capillaries are dimished and my pores are immaculate and I just don't think every derm knows all there is to know about skincare. EL works and this is a great staple in the line.

This is a GREAT toner and really helps to clear my skin up, especially when I use it with the Erno beta wash, to which I have become a devoted convert. However, as someone else noted, it is a lot like clinique's toner #2; the conditioning prep, I think, IS a little bit better than the clinique, but probably not so much better as to justify the really prohibitive cost. What is worse the packaging really encourages you to use a lot of product, especially if you are using cotton pads. I'm ripping through this bottle. I will probably repurchase, but only if I get a good deal off of ebay. For the most part, the clinique is probably the better choice because it is almost as good and much cheaper.

I have oily skin and I am acne prone and I was using HydraPhel toner by Laszlo. I am very leary about alcohol in products, but I got a sample of Conditioning prep.. and I tell you what. This is the best toner I have ever used. It made my face sting at first but after the 3rd use, that went away.. And so did my breakouts. I liked the HydraPhel toner at first, but then my skin just got to oily throughout the day. This toner has helped with my oiliness, and I have NO breakouts at all! Amazing... Great product :)
Update 2/11/05: My skin is still looking great. This toner has also helped with the blackheads in my nose! All gone! :)

I love the Erno Laszlo skincare. I received a generous sample from Nordstrom's and have been hooked ever since. I have acne prone skin and used Proactiv for years until it stopped working. This toner gets rid of my acne fast. I know others have said it is strong and believe me, you feel it working but it has not dried out my skin at all.

For me, this is a GREAT product to use, on the end of a cotton swab, to treat a blemish or irritation. ALthough I would never use this all over my face (it is made for oily skin types) on the very rare occasion I do get a blemish (I have been using Laszlo for more than 20 years and most often my skin is flawless) this product never fails in clearing up the disturbance in short order. Please do NOT use this product however until you determine, with the help of a trained Laszlo specialist, that it is right for your skin type. Too often women incorrectly use the wrong products, wonder why their skin is reacting badly and then write silly negative reviews about their experiences. Don't trust someone who uses Laszlo for two or three days, first writes a glowing review, then goes to the trouble a few days later of posting a silly "update" bidding farewell to Laszlo and hello to some other line. She is doing neither her skin or her readers (or the poor sales assistants who have to deal with her nonsense) any favors. Talk to people who have used the line for years (not days) and can speak intellegently about the products. In the end, if you chose to invest a few dollars and the five minutes, twice a day, to make your skin look it's best, you will not be disappointed.

I tried a generous sample of this from Erno Laszlo and immediately went out to buy it as soon as I ran out. This is for extremely oily skin and it really cleans out my pores and prepares my skin for moisturizer. Perfect for the summer months when my skin looks like an oil slick. I've also noticed that my skin feels smoother after using this and I have far less breakouts. It's a little pricey at $32.00 but as long as it continues to work for me, I will continue to buy it.

Conditioning Prep (CP) is a great astringent for the summer months.
Although I am over 50, I still have problems with acne and oily skin when the heat and humidity rise. CP keeps the oil in check and my skin stays clear. What I especially like about CP is that if something unsavory crops up it doesn't hang around. CP zaps any
unsavories pronto! One needs only to apply a small amount on a 100% cotton ball (important) for great results.

Used to use the clinique #2. If this makes sense, this is similar but better. It has really helped my acne prone skin. I hate that I heard they test on animals but don't dare switch before my wedding for fear of the breakouts. Must admit that this stuff does work very well and I will repurchase at least for a little while.

I hit 30 and after having blemish free skin for my entire life, acne set in. My skin had never been so uncomfortable, greasy, dry, shiny, flaky and my spots hung around for months at a time, nothing would shift them until......I discovered Erno Laszlo. This toner is strong but my sensitive skin doesn't react to it and it hasn't dried it out either. Used in conjunction with other Erno Laszlo products such as the Beta Wash and Beta Complex, my skin is back to looking its best. Its not cheap and its hard to get hold of here in the UK, but the compliments my skin receives makes it worth it.
