This is my best AQUATIC!

Why?

* Because the notes are composed to perfection. Nothing gets too sharp, as often happens with aquatic notes/perfumes.
* Because it's a niche perfume, you wont smell it "everywhere".
* Very Good lasting power

I bought this on the hop whilst mooching through Selfridges. As a fragrance junkie, I love trying new and usual scents and this just smelt very different from anything I'd tried before.
Its very true to its Marine name. Oceanic, fresh, clean, almost salty but in a nice way. It does have a tiny essence of sunlotion but not as obvious as some of my other perfumes. Its clean, airy and fresh just like a walk on a warm beach. I'd just love to know where I can buy some more in the UK as Selfridges no longer stock it....

I really like this scent a lot. It doesn't smell like a generic beach scent or Irish Spring soap. It's a smell of the ocean, the sand, and a touch of suntan lotion. It also has a touch of white flowers to it as well. I don't find it masculine at all, and truly enjoy smelling it. I love to spray it on my robe so I smell like the ocean right out of the shower - so refreshing and relaxing. And the sillage is great, and lasts forever on fabric. While initially there is a base note that bothers me (the patchouli perhaps?), it fades quickly, leaving a lovely aquatic fragrance to enjoy. If you enjoy scents like Aqua Motu, give this a try - I find it's similar to Motu minus the coconut aspect and with the white floral aspect instead. Lovely.

Christiane Celle's Calypso Marine is a very pretty, oceanic, beachy scent that is completely in line with the kind of perfumes that Christiane Celle creates and does not go for the cheap thrill of overtly "tropical" notes. Her trademark is light, elegant perfumes that are perfect for wearing on holidays in hot weather.

You will not find sharp edges, nor anything weird from Christiane Celle. There won't be any complex development nor overpowering sillage - but who wants that while on vacation anyways?? Simply put, Christiane Celle's Marine and her sister fragrances are what you want to wear while enjoying a poolside cocktail at the Hotel Guanahani (St. Bart's) wearing a pareo and Miss Trish of Capri sandals.

From what I've been able to glean on the Internet, here are the notes: bergamot, raspberry, nutmeg, bamboo, salty marine accord, patchouli, lotus flower, driftwood, sandalwood, soft musk and white amber.

Wow! I don't understand all of the negative reviews of this. CK Escape or Baby Soft Lotion? I don't get that at all. This is one of my all time favorite spring/summer scents. It is very different and if you don't like marine scents you should stay away. People either love or hate Marine. I can't top some of the other positive reviews, but I can tell you every time I wear this I get compliments...and it's only the second scent I've worn that DH has said "wow, you smell great". One thing I can say though is that the first spray smells a little strong, but the dry down is absolutely mesmerizing. The only drawback is staying power. I need to spray two to three times a day. All marine scents do not last for hours and hours and Marine is no different. If I'm a little down in the dumps I spray this on my wrist and it instantly elevates my mood. I've never had a scent do that...it's magical.

Wow, this is a freaky scent. I adore the smell of Baby Magic lotion on fresh, clean babies, and always thought I wouldn’t mind smelling innocent like that again myself, but now that I’ve inadvertently found a fragrance that renders such a smell, I think it’s weird. I was looking for a sea salt scent, so I sampled Marine. I get no salt, instead it goes on as a soapy benzoin scent, then morphs in no time at all to fresh Baby Magic. It is so strong though-I’ve sampled it twice, and both times it immediately gave me a headache. You need to apply this very, very lightly-do not spray-just dab. I think this may be a good layering base scent though, to provide depth to lighter floral or sweet scents. I tried some layering experiments and it provided more dimension to Charlotte Russe Shine, but didn’t impress me when layered with MAC MV2.

Sort of smells vaugely like the ocean, but there's this persistent, sweet cocoa butter/baby lotion base that sort of weirds me out. I don't really like marine fragrances in general, but when I'm in the mood, I'd much rather go for CSP Aqua Motu or Norma Kamali Beach.

This really is a sand beachy marine type scent. Aquatic but yet sweet. I really like it!

The name of this fragrance is now Christiane Celle Calypso - Marine. I am not a lover of marine scents, but I love Calypso Marine. I lived on the Pacific Ocean for many years, and even though I'm not directly on the ocean anymore, I still visit often. Calypso Marine truly smells like a night walk on the beach - ocean air, salt, water, woods...that clean, fresh smell that only exists when you're near the ocean. This is an uplifting scent which never fails to cheer me. Yes, it's evocative of great memories and beauty, but it's also simply a wonderful fragrance.

Calypso St Barth and Christiane Celle Calypso are one and the same. And so I tried, along with Demeter Ocean, Calypso Marine. To me, early morning crowded subway bad breath. Other notes buried far beneath. Now officially Calypso St Barf (unless I got a bad sample from Lusciouscargo).

Here I go again, representing the silent (so far, anyway) minority. Normally I hate marine scents, but Calypso Marine is the best I've ever smelled. The aqueous notes aren't Irish-Spring-sharp like those in CK Escape; they meld beautifully with the underlying woods and grasses to produce a scent that really does smell like a day at the beach. More specifically, Marine smells like the plants and grasses that grow around bodies of water, with a bit of kelp to kelp to remind you that the woods and grasses are near the water and not in the middle of a field. The top notes are bergamot, rosemary, nutmeg and bamboo leaves; heart notes are marine accords, patchouli and lotus; base notes are sandalwood, soft musk and white amber. Obviously, there's a lot to balance the marine accords, which do fade after about an hour's drydown. The best part of Marine is the far drydown: pure sea grasses grounded by wood, much like a vetiver-patchouli blend. Highly evocative, like you've been rolling around on the sand in your own private From Here to Eternity. I wore Marine on a trip last weekend and received no fewer than six compliments, all from people who, like me, grew up on a large body of water (Great Lakes, Atlantic, Pacific). People who dislike patchouli or similar earthy-grassy-woody notes will probably flee, but for us nature (and especially water) lovers, Marine is a pleasant blast from the past.

This has got to be one of the absolute worst fragrances I have ever encountered. Not to be crude, but I thought this literally smelled like shit. I cannot fathom why anyone would want to smell like this. I'd give it zero lippies if I could.

I sprayed this on from a tester while in the beauty salon and 3 people near me commented about how awful it was! I thought it was a nice marine, although very masculine, fragrance. But since everyone was complaining and making faces, I went to wash it off. Well, it doesn't come off! I used soap and scrubbed and rubbed (I'd only sprayed the back of my hand!) and now, hours later, my hand still reeks of it.
I wish other fragrances were this tenacious!

This scent is just not me I guess. It is to strong and sharp or something. It smells like it has mint in it or something. To me it smells to manly for me. I like heady florals though. This one is to minty manly smelling for me. JMOT :)

This is interesting... very strong with amazing lasting power. Very authentic "marine" scent too. It seems "unisex." I'm not a marine person-- I like rose and florals, woody types-- marine isn't my thing at all. But it might be nice layered with something else... You should certainly certainly try that. Only very tiny amounts are needed though. A spray is impractical... all you'd need is a drop.

This smells just like Demeter's Ocean for about 3 times the price. If you like Demeter's version then you will like this. It does smell oceanic and has a patchouli base but is rather unoriginal.
