I just came back from a perfume warehouse sale, so many different perfumes i couldnt decide which to choose! And by the time I got around to this I dont think i could smell anything properly. I just loved the packaging, this came with a free powder and mini perfume. I really didnt know what to expect when I brought it home. Ok so I open the box and spray in just my wrists. OMG this is so strong! I usually wear chanel coco and Im used to the subtle powdery scent that lingers from that. Oscar smells older, more sophisticated. It smells like the scent from weddings or parties. When women walk by and i think oh thats smells expensive. It is starting to mix in with the chemistry in my body and I like it but for some reason its making me a little nauseous im not used to such a heavy scent, or maybe i need to apply with a lighter hand. Anywho i do like it but i have a feeling i wont be wearing this too often except for special occasions so i dont think i will buy this againg anytime soon.

I’m not familiar with the original version, but the current EDT smells A LOT like L’Heure Bleue… which makes me really happy because now I can save my precious L’HB EDP for special occasions & wear its cheaper twin instead. Oscar also reminds me a little of Vanderbilt. All three are superb classics which I will always have in my collection. The staying power of the EDT leaves much to be desired, though. I hope they’ll bring back the EDP. Oscar was composed by Jean-Louis Sieuzac, the nose behind Opium & Dune.

I have a vague memory of this smelling good on my mom in the early '80s, plus I love the sculptural-flower bottle, so I picked up an EDT at Marshalls. What a letdown! I totally concur with Turin & Sanchez ("Guide to Perfumes") that this smells stale and blah, like old perfume left on clothing. Sweetish, powder-ish, indistinct, dated and fusty. In desperation I tracked down a vintage EDT on eBay, hoping for something more... and again, all I get is blah. Oscar is heavy, yet cold. It belongs in dusty closets, together with huge shoulder pads and loud scarves and all the other trappings of the overdone '80s.

Super powdery smell, somewhere along the line of Youth Dew and old grannies. I can't believe someone would pay so much money to smell like a living antique. yuck. The world needs to be informed about how awful this smells.

I love love love the way this smells in the bottle It smells like such a wonderful delicate floral. however when I put it on It smells scratchy with wafts of the floral deliciousness. It smells better on the dry down its fantastic

This review is for the pure parfum mini. I must have missed this one in the 70's; I had never smelled Oscar before. It is a floriental with a good kick of tuberose. To me, it's something of a marriage of Youth Dew and Annick Goutal Passion. This is a strong fragrance I would reserve for evening and apply lightly. Incredible longevity; a teeny tiny drop of the fragrance lasted into the next day. I found it cloying after awhile.

I wore this through high school and college, and for some reason it just fell out of my fragrance staples. I put some on today and was immediately comforted by the warm, floral tones and subtle and sophisticated lingering scent. It's classic and comfortable, like a favorite pair of black pumps or silk nightgown. This scent is what I hoped Chanel No 5 was going to be, but to me that smelled too old, too stuffy. This scent manages to be classy and fresh.

Oscar has been my go to perfume since my mother gave it to me for my sweet sixteen. It's soft, gentle and has always quietly screamed "classic". It's not overpowering, it's not a perfume that disappears quickly into nothing, it's stately and classic.

Oscar by Oscar de la Renta is a lovely classic floral oriental. On initial application I can always smell the rose and tuberose but also the myrrh which gives this scent a slightly mysterious overtone. It's oriental but not sweetly oriental and not at all strong nor overpowering (like Youth Dew or Shalimar for instance, those are sweet orientals).

On drydown this is a spicy, powdery lightly floral scent which is quite lovely. It's classy, sophisticated but still appropriate for daytime use when applied with a light hand. And it has tremendous sillage but is still not overpowering.

I've worn this scent since the late 1970s and it still remains one of my favorites.

I've just gone back to wearing this, after a five year break. I originally stopped wearing this powdery floral because I couldn't stand it while I was pregnant. Now, I like it again, my husband has always loved it on me, and according to my toddler daughter, this makes me smell "Beautiful". This fragrance is a part of my florals collection-in the same category as my Chanel #5, Anais Anais, Tresor, etc. It dries down to a comforting scent, and isn't screamingly expensive, compared with some. I've often purchased the EDT and the Body Lotion, together-and the lotion is just as delicious, soft and warm. I'll keep purchasing it, until my 'scent sense' changes.

I wore this perfume for a while in the late 1980's, and the secretaries at work would always sniff and say, "oh, that's Oscar isn't it?"
Well, that became annoying... so I moved on to other fragrances. A week ago, I saw Oscar in the drug store and decided to shell out a few bucks to see if I still liked it twenty years later. Clearly, it isn't the same perfume that it once was, and nobody at my current job recognized it. The EDT used to have depth, but now it is very powdery. Still, I like the fragrance, and it lasts a long time. The scent really clings to clothes nicely and Oscar can be gently layered with other perfumes.

I didn't like the smell of this perfume and bought it on impulse from a site. Although the price was pretty good (£25 for 240ml I think...quite a massive bottle!) Also, I expected the packaging to be better...looked a little cheap. I would not buy it again.

i love this fragrance..
i remember my mum wearing this whilst i was growing up and during my pregnancy, was the only perfume i didnt feel sick smelling or didnt give me a headache..

i love it sooo much and hope that one day my baby will remember me whenever they smell this perfume!

I got this as gift for christmas. It's not something I would have ever picked for myself, as i would have considered it too floral, too powdery and too 'old fashioned' for my taste. When it dries down it does settle into a very pleasant and comforting scent. But I held onto it and i do wear it on occasion, and i must say whenever i do wear it, i am always complimented on how nice i smell! So i will probably use up the bottle.

This won't be for everyone, no. It's not a modern fragrance at all. It's a real traditional "perfumey" perfume! I've got to be in the mood to wear this, but when I am, it really hits the spot. I can certainly understand the comparisons to that other old favourite, Vanderbilt. My mother wears that and it's certainly along the same lines.

Oscar is floral with a hint of oriental/spice. It's fairly potent, but perfect if you apply with a light hand. It drys down to some rather nice powdery undertones and is really feminine.

It's not the first bottle I reach for, but if I want to feel elegant and smart it's great. It's almost a nostalgic sort of scent for me. Don't buy it if you want a modern complex trendy sort of scent, because you'd be disappointed.

It is very old-fashioned, "retro", powdery scent, reminds me of Chanel no5 (similar aldehydic note), I smell some undefiniable powdery flowers (maybe iris + jasmine) + weird, metallic, "dusty" note of effervescent calcium tablets, odour of lime and wet pavement + cola note (maybe it's opoponax). I don't know why, but this fragrance gives me the unique feeling of safety and relaxation.

Like a lot of other people, I wear this because my mother did when i was little. I have very strong, lovely memories associated with it. I used to sniff my mother's pillow when she left. She'd always spray an extra puff so that I didn't feel alone when i woke up.



As for the scent, it's like any other perfume. When it reacts well with your body chemistry, it smells gorgeous. If not, you're better off with something else. Obviously test it first. I'm sseing it described as powdery/girly and I'd like to weigh in. On me, it takes more the tone of a richer, deeper, even oriental scent. Definitely worth a try. It's a lovely smell that lasts (and lasts).

I used this awhile back. It's flowery and light. Too light, for me, really. But it's elegant and fresh on the right person. I just thought it was too boring for me, too pretty. Too innocent like. Too girly.

Oscar is the saddest perfume I have ever smelled.

My Mother wore it. Every time I smell it I can envision her sitting sadly at the kitchen table alone, drinking tea and staring down into her cup.

She's gone now, and when I smell Oscar I feel guilty about the times I passed her by without stopping to hug her and breathe in her scent. I should have hugged her more.

Oscar is beautiful and sad. Please hug someone if they are wearing it.

This was a gift for Valentine's Day. I had smelled it before, and wanted to throw up from the smell. It smells incredibly strong, and the epitome of "old lady" smell. However, my bf gave it to me and said he really liked it, so I sprayed a little on my arm. I think its growing on me! Its very strong, but has a nice powdery, floral scent to it. Its very elegant and sophisticated, so I don't think it will be every day scent. Its not something I would have picked out myself, but I can see wearing it for special occasions.
