There is a really unfortunate urine-on-tinfoil accord I get a few minutes after applying this. Luckily, that aspect doesn't last long. However, the scent gets very dense and heavy on me, in a flat, dull, smothering sort of way. I gave it a 3 because the far drydown is a lovely sweet-cream kind of scent, but I'm not willing to wade through the rest of it to get there.

Oh my, thank goodness I sampled before buying. Upon reading reviews, this should have had everything I love in a fragrance, including being composed by Maurice Roucel. But sadly, on me, all I got was spice, spice, spice and amber. VERRRRY spicy and sweet and bland. Very like Obsession or even Tabu. I got no musk, no dirtiness, no "ravageur". Smells like something a teenager would wear to the Friday night dance at the highschool. So far, the only Malle I've liked has been Carnal Flower. They all seem to lean way too far on the sweet scale and lack complexity. But that's just me perhaps. Try before you buy.

This is a "dirty" fragrance - and I mean that in the very best possible way. Very very sexy.

Ordered some of this from Frederic Malle with quite a few other untried goodies. Of them all, this one captured me. It is downright smoldering sexy musk. Last a long time too, so a dab will do you. It smells unlike anything I have ever tried (although for some faint reason, it reminds me somewhat of Chergui). This fragrance is suited more for the colder months than the summertime as it is quite strong. I am definitely going to buy a full-size bottle as it is worth every last penny.

How is everyone smelling sex in this? It doesn't smell remotely human/animalistic; it smells like the chemicals in Carmex lipbalm.

I'm considering buying it. I have a sample (thank you Robin at Barney's in Vegas) and I enjoy it, but it doesn't last long on me. If its still on me in 8 hours I'll pick it up, because I like the subtle creamy musc and strong vanilla, it smells like winter and cozy snuggling. I do get a strong bergamot splash at first, and it smells like briny pickles! Thank goodness that top note goes away quickly and I'm left with a beautiful scent. My only concern is staying power so I'll see how it turns out. I have until 4pm, when my conference at the Venetian ends, to decide.
Edited to add I put it on at 7am, by 10am only the faintest trace remained. My body absorbs fragrance it seems. I am not spending that much money for 3 hours of perfume. Bummer, once I got past the briny pickles top note, I really liked this scent.
Final edit: I've worn this a few times from the sample I got, and in the end, I really like it. Even the briny pickle smell has grown on me. If I spritz 3 or 4 spots it does last longer, especially if I do nape of neck and behind the knees. Darn, I may have to buy this afterall. When I start to run low on my 30 other fragrances, I will then make the decision to buy this or not. It is pricey.

Skanky, foody, bodily musk. Still, there's more to Musc Ravageur. The skin scent is more sharp and dry and spicy, almost vintage-like, from the cinnamon. At first I thought almost too much so, but then it mellows into a wonderfully spicy, warm and cozy scent, sweetened by musk and vanilla.
It's not ladylike, it's not for girls--It's disgracefully good... If I know that I am going to be up all night, and that in the morning I am going to be lying there; exhausted, sweaty, filthy, and with pillows and clothes thrown all over the room, then this is the fragrance I wear because it compliments that situation perfectly, and also because it will last until the next morning too, hehe. Divine.

Wow. Musc Rave is a purring kitty ... animalistic, somewhat dirty musk.
I'm all for a good perfume skank-fest once & awhile, but even Musc Rave is a bit too much for me. I know there are other notes in this, but all I get is musk, a sweetish musk ... kitty musk, if you know what I mean.
Agent Provocateur, yes. Boudoir, yes. Tabu, yes. Musc Rave, no.
I have a small (5ml) decant, and let me tell you - that will last me 10 years. Try this before you buy this, even if you like musks.

Smells very much like Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille and perhaps a bit tired on me. I find it pretty wearable after the spicy opening tones down a bit but do not find it that attractive or that sophisticated. Makes me think of fake tan and bronzers. 3.5

Sexy, snuggly musk. This strikes the perfect balance between seductive skin scent and spicy comfort scent. Itís all around nuzzly. I see why some think itís a naughtier Shalimar. On me, itís not as naughty as Musc Koublai Khan. Far naughtier than Kiehls. Low to medium sillage, very good longevity. Iíll never be without this.

This is the first perfume I have ever worn that my husband actually asked the name because he thought it smelled so good. He knew I was trying different samples and put in his vote on this one little knowing the cost. It is also one of the few perfumes that you can actually smell on me. Most of them just disappear in an hour or less. I am the great absorber of all things beauty oriented.
I can't really describe the smell except to say it is intoxicating and the longer you wear it the softer the smell. Perfume rarely lasts long on me but I can get 8-12 hours with this. It actually does not really go away until I shower.
Don't know if it is "sexy" but the first time I wore it when I was doing some retail sales I found the male customers hanging around for a very long time to just talk and turned heads of men half my age when I walked by a group-now this could have been because they hated it but it does speak to the sillage.
The scent is strong and I am subject to headaches and nauseated stomach from some perfumes and this has never bothered me in the least.
I do recommend that you try a sample since it does not seem to work on everyone.
Even at the high cost I will purchase again. I have to use so much more of other perfumes that the price may not really be so different.

Nope - can't get past the disinfectant odour of this and I'm not a fan of lavender either. Shame.

This scent did not choose me. I tried it on, and it smelled like I was wearing some sort of lavender-scented cleaning product. Not sexy on me at all, unless you find Stepford Wives-like robots spraying Windex, and cleaning windows to be sexy. A divine, spicy, slightly sweet musk with -for me - hints of patchouli and cloves.Musks generally work well on my skin, but this is the best of them all.
A very "grown up"scent and as the reviewer below put it so well -if this doesnīt work, nothing else will ;-)

I cannot compete with the poetic reviews of this fragrance other than to say it is seduction in a bottle. If this doesn't work nothing will.

Should have known better than to hope to love any fragrance with lavender listed in the notes. My bad. I love musk, the dirtier the better, MKK is a HG item for me. Based on the reviews, I hoped this would be a very sexy musk to add to my collection. I thought, how much lavender could there be?? Too much evidently. This note just slays me. In my yoga school, most students use the schools all natural lavender oil based mat cleaner after practice, needless to say, I am the first off the floor and out the door. Lavender tickles my nose and makes my throat feel like velcro. Maybe I am allergic, not severely, but to some extent. The citrus/lavender opening of MR sent me into a sneezing fit which of course passed, but the notes lingered on. Oh how I wanted to scrub, but since this fragrance is praised for being unique and sexual, I stuck it out like a trooper. Gratefully, in this case anyway, the sexy drydown never happened for me. As with all the Malles I have sampled, it was weak within 15 minutes, gone within the hour. Just can't understand why Malles have so little sillage and lasting power for me. I really liked Vetiver Extraordinaire but it was gone so quickly I couldn't justify buying it. MR is a no buy for me. I will stick with my beloved MKK. Was it worth the 10 bucks to sample before buying? You bet it was. Ha! As I conclude this review what is that scent wafting through my bedroom window? It appears that somebody really pissed off our neighborhood skunk. Ironic. Can't win tonight. Off gagging to shut windows and turn on the fan. This night shall pass.

Musc Ravageur is overtly and unapologetically sexy. This fragrance is a man-killer. This fragrance has mojo. This fragrance is not for the faint of heart but it will likely make other hearts swoon.
The musk is animalic and slightly dirty (not as extreme as SL MKK or CBIHP). Spray it as you are getting ready so it has a chance for the top notes to wear off. My only complaint is that for the first hour it follows me everywhere shouting at maximum noise levels- in the elevator, the cab, etc... Give it a chance to mellow as the drydown is the "heart-breaker" mode.

Very wearable and generally extremely likeable, truly unisex, smells like a fashionable, modern musk that is not too strong. LOVE it!! I can see how people have said it has a slight metallic beginning, but it smelled soft on myself and friend, very very slight metallic. Dries down to a warmer musk, very good quality.
EDIT: The strange thing is, this smelled great in Japan. When I came home, it smells like Shalimar gone bad. (And I love Shalimar).. overall, it seems too powdery with some cinnamon thrown in and a sharp musk. Not a winner. It's interesting because Un Lys smelled awful over there, and great here. Must be the diet changing skin chemistry.

First I got a sample of it and wasnt really attracted to it with first wearings, just thought it was ok. But it grows on you or maybe my taste changed a little. Now I love it and I bought a full bottle. The smell is very warm and sensual. Probably better for chilly weather. I feel very comfortable with it. It smells spicy and muscy. Definitely smell vanila. People react really different to it. But the best comment I got was- you smell interesting :) Mostly people look confused and just ask what is this :) Even my husband who got used to my choice of perfumes just says that it smells too intense for him. So be prepared that you might be the only person there who enjoys your smell.

This is a very peculiar fragrance, hate it or love it, I guess.
To my nose it has a camphor note at the very start that is somehow disturbing as it tickles my nostrils and makes me sneeze.
But, when you pass these first 5 minutes, the very heart of this spicy-oriental-vanillic scent develops.
The cinnamon note is there, spicy but not too strong, I can smell also some clove, pepper and nutmeg ; later, I detect also some juniper and balsamic resins (although not mentioned in the notes).
The drydown is quite soft, when all the spices are gone.. it's a classic soft ambery-vanilla one, that changes into something animalic, strong (=musc, and not the clean type! )
Quite a sillage and a good lasting power.
Mind you, this is not your typical powdery-oriental ... and it's not like Opium (as somebody said below): Musc Ravageur is a strong perfume, w/ personality; compelling or disturbing, it depends on you and yor skin chemistry.
I like it, as I like many orientals; it could easily suit a man (provided he has the personality to wear it! this is not a fresh water!).
Definitely a must try, but mandatory to sample before buying!!
Notes as per Osmoz:
Top notes Bergamot , Mandarine
heart notes Cinnamon, Vanilla
base notes: Musc, Amber
