I read the reviews, but I had to have this color because it was so beautiful. This polish lasted less than a day on me and began chipping the same day I applied it. Too bad, it really is stunning. I just bought Nails Inc. Baker Street and I love it- and it lasts! The color of Baker Street is a little different than Butler Please, but it looks just as nice. This is the worst Essie polish I own. :(

I lusted after the Butler for quite some time. I could never find him. It seemed that he had been claimed no matter where I went. I work at Walmart and our store didn't have Essie for a long time. I got off work last night and wandered up to HBA when, lo and behold, I found the Butler! I grabbed the one bottle on display and made a hasty dash to the front. I was running late to work today so I grabbed Butler Please and slapped on a very quick manicure. I used 2 coats of BP and was very pleased. The formula was a little bit thick (most of my Essie's are like colored water), but it was nothing I couldn't live with. I topped it off with a coat of Seche Vite. I got so many compliments on the color while I was at work! It's a gorgeous vibrant blue that a co-worker said reminds her of ocean water. The only downfall was that it chipped a lot at the tips. I will definitely buy another bottle for my stash!

Sigh, unfortunately, as much as I want to deny it, the formula was just HORRIBLE. i thought I was the only one suffering from streaky coats but apparently, I wasn't alone. It was thick, so I had to bust out my thinner a couple of times. Really disappointed. The color was really nice though, but I'll have to settle with Nails Inc. Baker Street instead.

Awesome bold blue, but like everyone else has said... the formula is pretty crap. I like a lot of Essie's polishes, but this is so streaky and thick, ultimately making it such a chore to apply decently. Also, it dries semi-matte, which doesn't really suit it very well, so it needs a good top coat. So disappointing. Other reviewers here and several polish blogs mention Sally Hansen Pacific Blue or Nails Inc. Baker Street as close or dupes, so those may be a better bet if you're digging this shade.

Yeah, the rumors are true. This formula is God-awful. Go get yourself SH Pacific Blue or Nails Inc. Baker Street.

I have around 20 differ bottles of Essie nail polish and I love the brand! Like others have said there is something wrong with this formula! It goes on streaky and leaves places uncovered... Not good at all! GORGEOUS colour but such a horrible formula! I'll keep buying Essie but this one is bad :(

Sad but true... The formula is somewhat of a bust on this color. It does chip easily and does dry somewhat matte (hello, that's what a top coat is for). My polish lasted 36 hours before chipping. I wore it with Turquoise & Caicos and that polish lasted beautifully. Definitely a short life for such an expensive polish. Kind of disappointing, but get real, there are bigger issues in life than chipped polish lol
Sally Hansen does have a dupe for this color if you want to try the color but a different formula "Pacific Blue"

This polish has a really pretty color. I got so many compliments on it, but the formula isn't like all the other Essie polishes I have. It's a lot streakier and tends to go on somewhat thicker. After experimenting with it some time, I found that the best way to get a really smooth, even coat is to get the polish mixed well by swirling it (So one doesn't end up with lot of bubbles) until one can hear the balls in the bottle rolling around the bottom. Then one has to apply it with quick, deliberate strokes in order to get all the brush strokes to blend into one and disappear. That said, it tends to be way more delicate and prone to chipping than my other polishes. In my experience, one can reduce this by using a base coat as well as another polish with a better formulation as a sort of undercoat. While I love the compliments I get, is it really worth it to put up with this finicky formula? I'm really not sure. I think I'd rather find a different polish in a very similar color. I'm also not sure if I'll buy this again.

I always always buy essie and this was SUCH a let down!! The color is absolutely gorgeous but this is the worst formula essie has ever put out, it took 3 coats to look halfway decent. It has a strange matte finish, applies so streaky and clumpy!! I'm currently on the hunt for a dupe, it's a shame because I'd been searching for this shade for a while and my Walgreens was always sold out. Wish I had read these reviews before buying :/

Don't buy this unless you want to have to re-do your nails a few hours later. Brutal.
This is the worst polish I have ever used. I'd expect the chipping within a few hours from dollar store polish, not Essie.
I am a regular buyer of Essie and am generally pleased with the product, but something is really wrong with this formula.
I was attracted to the color. A beautifully simple, vibrant, primary school blue
First coat on, I knew I was goin to be let down. First coat was dull, streaky, uneven, matte.
I applied a thick second coat and the color came true to the bottle color.
In the morning the night after doing my nails I already had 2 giant chips!!! Usually I can make a manicure last a good week with no too much damage.
Very disappointed in Essie right now.
Too many other good brands to choose from, if this is the quality they will be producing I won't buy Essie again.

Alright, so it's not the greatest formula in the world, but it is the most gorgeous blue I have ever put on my nails, and I think that is worth the crap formula of it.
I rarely ever put crazy colors on my nails, I'm strictly a nudes and reds kind of gal, but this polish gave me pause. It's a beautiful color, just a little tricky to apply.

The worst nail polish I have ever used. Chipped before the day ended - chipped like mad. So disappointed, and this stuff isn't cheap either... And my local drugstore doesn't have great refunds for makeup products. In fact, the other Essie I bought at the same time chips terribly as well. I wonder if they changed the formula for new colors. Either way, so disappointed. Waste of money.

I got a pedicure in this color for my Florida vacation. I purposely picked an essie polish because my last essie pedicure lasted weeks without chipping! The color is BEAUTIFUL but I noticed within 3 days it was chipping like crazy and I had to come on makeupalley to see if others had the same problem. Not surprisingly, they did. I've never had a pedicure wear off within a few days. I thought it was a combo of swimming often and wearing sandals but no! This color formula sucks! A shame too bc it's a gorgeous color.

I actually liked this nail polish but I was excepting a more darker, bold, cobalt colour. The price was expensive but it was not that bad. I wanted a colour you could see from far away and was more vibrant. But i still like this and will wear it alot. I love this colour.

I had the same experience with this polish as many of the other reviewers did: Mesmerized by the color, completely let down by the formula. I love the brightness of the blue, it's like a comic book color. Very graphic and vivid. Opaque, cream finish in two coats, no streaks or pooling around the edges. It didn't seem too thin or too thick. But it lasted all of a day on me before it was wearing off along the tips and even chipping a little. I have to get silk on my nails every other week because of my incredibly weak nails (something I hate doing but my nails are paper thin, painful, and they split down the middle if I don't) and usually the top coat my manicurist uses makes any polish last perfectly until I go in again. I'm surprised at how easily this wore off and just by the overall lack of quality. Generally I like Essie's polishes and haven't had any issues with them in the past, but this one is a big disappointment. I'm giving it two lippies for the gorgeous color though.

Wow. I agree with the other reviewers. This has to be the WORST quality nail polish I ever used in my life. Let me start by saying that I am a nail polish fanatic. I paint my fingers and toes every week and have never had chipping so horribly so fast. ALSO, I went out and spent an additional $20 buying the highest rated nail base/topcoat out there. Guess that didn't help. On the very first day of painting my nails, I had 4-5 chips before even going to bed. That has never happened before. The color is gorgeous but the quality just plain sucks.

Just finished letting the product dry and I have to say that the color is duller than what I expect from an Essie polish. The application wasn't as one-stroke as usual but a with a little finesse, I was able to get a satisfactory application after just one coat. I would recommend getting a full bead of the color when applying and not wiping some off on the edge of the bottleneck like one would typically do, the thicker coat will prevent any coverage issue and it will still dry in a similar time frame as if you had applied one coat of a thinner polish. Thus far, every other Essie polish I have used lasts at least 3 days before chipping so I hope this one will offer the same success. Gorgeous color that many are comparing to Sally Hansen's Pacific Blue, personally, I find Sally Hansen's formula to be too goopy and slow-drying in comparison.

LOVE the color! Essie tends to have amazing colors!!!!!!!!!!
BUT, all essie polishes CHIP like crazy!!!!!! why does no one on youtube mention how bad they chip? I have tried four different colors, all which chip within the next day. Its horrible. The colors are hard to resist, but the chipping is what will make me never buy essie again.

As my second Essie nail polish after Lilacism (A huge favourite), I was very excited about Butler Please. It's a gorgeous sapphire colour that I got as a present.
I put it on and forgot a top coat, and assumed it would be ok for a day and I'd just put it on in the evening. After a day of barely doing anything, I came home to find every nail chipped. I was startled and touched it up, but I realised it wasn't that easy. When other nail polishes chip, I can cover it up easily. But when I tried to coat over the chip, the whole nail just went gloopy and disgusting. I removed it straight away and put Lilacism back on.
Overall, BP is a very disappointing formula from Essie. It's a lovely colour but difficult to work with. I would not buy it.
