I purchased this in August 2013, and the product has since been reformulated. I do not have personal experience with the reformulation but I've seen on other forums that some people are still experiencing difficulty applying it.

Mephisto is a gorgeous color when I swatch it, however that beauty somehow doesn't transfer to my eyelids despite using the same application methods (patting eyeshadow over primer). I've tried it with pixie epoxy as well, and while I think there is some benefit to using it over PE, it also applies patchily. This is likely why, at the time of my purchase at least, Fyrinnae's website recommended against using PE with Mephisto.

Overall, while this color swatches beautifully I didn't buy it for that purpose and I'm disappointed that its performance on my eyelids doesn't match up. I do use it sometimes with TKB's mixing medium as liner so it's not a total waste but I'll likely destash it soon.

edit: tried it with Pixie Epoxy, it's still not looking good. Initially, yes. After a few minutes go by, it starts going blah again. Perhaps i need more practice? Dunno. I also tried applying Pixie Epoxy with a pointy eyeliner, in a thin line, and then pushing on the Mephisto like a powder liner. it didn't work, nor wettened. It just blurs into a nondescript dull purple/grey. I don't have oily lids, and I DO wear a primer-- it's the shadow, methinks. Pity.
.
I tried many ways to make it work, it is just so-so. The colour looked delicious in online swatches and on the back of my hand. Like crushed velvet. On the eyes, it looks bad. Like a patchy, greyish-purple bruise. Very difficult to blend the edges. I've tried watching youtube videos of how to blend Fyr shadows, but the methods don't work with Mephisto. It just looks bad.
Patting it on, it doesn't apply evenly or look good. The little glitter flecks that give it that lovely complexity fade off really fast. It also creases no matter what, which is not a problem I've usually had with other Fyr loose e/s, or other brands' loose e/s.
.
Also applying wet/dry, whatever. it doesn't work out well. I know people will say "oh, but WITH epoxy, it's great, hence you should still give it 5 stars"--um.. IMO t's really off that to make one product work, you have to buy another. It should still be somewhat decent on its own, with any other base. If the colour is a zero without the epoxy, I can't in good conscience rate it highly. How come other dark loose shadow in other brands work fine without any kind of pixie epoxy? why should it require only one holy grail level product to look even remotely decent? The only way I can make it work is as a liner, with a mixing medium. And even then it fades off fast.
