I have 4 of their pencil liners for about 2 years now. Look at above picture for swatches (in same order). Here's my brief review:
.
- Natural Black: Very dark and pigmented (reminds me of a gel liner). Glides on very smoothly and easily and stays on brilliantly. Smudges a tiny bit, but don't all eyeliner pencils do that?
- Branch: Dark brown that fades over time unlike natural black. Still creamy and glides on well. It's okay; don't love it or hate it.
- Supernova Plum: Very pretty dark plum (almost blackened plum) with tiny shimmers. I like to use this as a day liner because it looks so natural. Fades a little over time. Not as pigmented as branch or natural black.
- White Hilite: HORRIBLE. I tried using this a few times, but it is so soft that the tip keeps breaking off in chunks. I never ever used it, but it is the shortest of my pencils because I keep sharpening it. When I test the chunks on the back of my hand, the consistency was very sticky...and not pigmented either.
.
Overall:
I don't think the pencils are consistent at all. Some are really soft (like the black one) and others are harder. Branch glided a lot smoother when I first got it, but now it needs to be warmed up. The black liner is the best one because it glides on smoothly without warming up (after 2 years!), unlike the other liners. I use it like a liquid liner (or gel liner) to cover some bald spots when I use false lashes because it is THAT good. However, supernova plum is probably my favorite one just because of the color. I don't think I will buy it again because it's getting expensive (for half the price maybe...). I remember purchasing it for only $12, but it's increased to $15 now! Not cool. I don't know when it will stop increasing.
Right now, I'm using Silk Naturals cream liner (another natural liner) because it's pretty good for the price. The black isn't as black as this one; you have to layer it on sometimes, but the pot will last you forever (seriously) since it's not as soft as these liners. I also have the cream liner in purple (more true dark purple and less black purple like the supernova plum) and dark brown (darker than branch) too.

*** in all of my reviews, my rating is based on product performance and value. however, I do discuss company ethics/customer service/etc. where applicable as this does effect whether I would buy the product again. ***
I received a full size of this eyeliner in the color "Supernova Plum" in a subscription box and, always on the hunt for great purple/plum liners to bring out my green eyes, was very excited to try it. Of course, I always check out the ingredients first, so here they are:
Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil; Organic Castor Oil; Wildcrafted Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax; Castor Wax; Mica; Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oleoresin
So, the first thing I love about this pencil is the tiny list of natural, vegan ingredients. No irritating fragrances, no nasty chemical preservatives, and I always love a liner or mascara with castor oil - I have had a lot of luck growing longer, thicker lashes with straight castor oil and having it in my eyeliner just makes me feel like I am continuing treatment throughout the day.
As far as packaging, I don't have much to say - it's a pencil with a plastic cap. Like most liner pencils. Nothing great, nothing bad. And now for the performance review:
Application: Smooth and easy, a very soft pencil that can be applied with a light hand for a subtle line, or layered for a darker shade. Also easy to blend for a smoky look but equally easy to sharpen and use for tightlining. Exactly what I like in a pencil.
Color: The supernova plum is just "plum-y" enough that it really makes green eyes pop but doesn't look like you're wearing purple liner. To the naked eye it could just as easily be brown or soft black. There is also a bit of shimmer, but only enough to draw attention to the eyes. So, basically, it's a sparkly plum liner that doesn't make you look like you applies a sparkly plum liner.
Staying power: Lasted all day on my oily lids without primer or shadow on day one - with just a bit of fading/sliding off on the very inner corner of my upper lash line. Lasted with said fading on day two when worn with primer and shadow. I also did my irritant test on day one - wearing it to bed. It did, of course, come off on my pillow and end up getting into my eyes a bit but - no irritation!
Price: $15. Pretty standard, not too pricey but certainly not cheap.
Other noteworthy tidbits: They have a very large selection of colors available, which I will definitely try. AND This little blurb on the zosimos home page makes me extremely happy -

Just the ethics of this company would have me looking for something to buy from them, even if I hated this liner. But I love the liner and can't wait to try other items as well!
