I have used so many cleansers in my lifetime it's almost embarassing. I've used over the counter and prescription cleansers. I have cystic acne that flairs up when I'm stressed and on my period. I wouldn't call this face wash an overnight success but it has been a success for me. I've been using it for almost 6 months now and my acne is much better controlled. However, this wash does make my skin a little dull so I use clinique exfoliating scrub (the one with menthol) every few nights after washing my face with this cetaphil. I'm not sure how this stuff works because there's no benzoyl peroxide or salycilic acid in it. It does decrease the oil throughout the day. It does take away some nataural glow which if frustrating but I love having clearer skin. I just moisturize with clinique moisturizing gel (the pink one) at nighttime to give back a little radiance. Of the mornings I moisturize with Mac oil control moisturizer. Some days I have to use the clinique gel of the mornings too depending on the time of year and weather. I did use the cetaphil oil control lotion with the wash for a while but I felt like it wasn't doing anything for my skin. It didn't break me out but I didn't see a difference in my skin either. I wish the bottle was clear so I could see when I'm about to run out rather than just having to feel the bottle to see if I'm getting close. It's about ten dollars which is pricey for a drugstore brand but it's cheaper than proactiv which I used before this. I have repurchased this facewash twice in the 6 months I've been using it so the product lasts a while considering I use this morning and night and sometimes in between.

****Update!
I forgot to meantion that if you keep this in the shower make sure you replace the lid on the bottle as soon as you're done getting the product out. Water gets into the bottle very easily and when it does I feel like it changes how the product works. I've ruined a few bottles like this unknowingly and kept using them. My face tended to breakout more when I let water slip in.

This burns my eyes. It comes out as foam, but is not lathery on face. However, it removes my makeup, and leaves my skin clean and smooth. I haven't noticed whether or not it controls oil. Their liquid cleanser is much better at foaming up.

I love this cleanser! for the longest time I was using a Murad cleanser that me and my mom shared then I switched to this because my dermatologist had recommended it to me and its awesome ! at first I didn't really like the idea of a foam cleanser bcuz I thought it would be TOO gentle and its the complete opposite. Although it doesn't get rid of ALL my makeup it gets off about 90% after this I just use my witch hazel toner and that does the trick. Its not over drying at all I like it alot better than the murad cleanser. It also helped with my redness and instantly calmed my skin and I felt so clean after using this. If I were too recommend any thing to anyone it would be this cleanser.

At first I was sceptical that a foaming wash could cleanse without over-stripping the skin. However after a month of using this light, easy-rinse foam I found it has not caused any further breakouts or disturbed my existing blemishes.

The packaging does NOT claim to clear acne first of all, it states that the formula is non-acnegenic which means it does not upset the acne on the skin.

This is gentle enough to use twice daily. As it is so gentle and oil-free, it is not as effective at dissolving make-up- especially eye make-up. I recommend using something a bit more emollient for this part of cleansing.

I would happily continue to use this even without any breakouts as it respects the natural moisture barrier of the skin and there is no "squeaky" clean feeling afterwards. The price is very reasonable and the packaging is well-thought out.

I would re-purchase again.

Disappointed, did not like it as much as the original formula. Its an ok cleanser, but it leaves makeup residue on your face. So make sure to use a toner afterwards. I use clinique acne solution.

This is my new favorite product! My skin feels so rejuvenated after I use it in the AM. It has a light scent, (it doesn't produce a lot of foam unless you pump a lot of the product into your hands),it goes on smoothly and washes away the product residue after you wash it unlike some face washes. I love how clean my face feels after I use this product. I use this product in conjunction with the new Cetaphil DermaContril Spf moisturizer so I can not tell if this product helps with the oil control throughout the day. I also bought this product thinking it was a face wash to help my acne prone skin. After reading it at home closely I realized it was marketed to help control oil, not help with current acne. I was disappointed in that aspect of the product. I bought this product because I thought it would help control my acne. I am not an expert in reading the decodable ingredients in products, but I don't think there are any ingredients to help control acne. Like I stated before I can not tell if this product helps control the oil in my skin because I use it with the Cetaphil DermaControl moisturizer during the day. But I can attest that I will re-purchase this face wash in the future. It does not dry out my skin, and leaves it light and refreshed. Will buy again.

Stick with it! I began using this product after my friend's dermatologist recommended it to her. It does what it says, controls oil n prevents breakouts. I'm 26 and was still suffering fron acne until i found this. Now i get minor breakouts every now n then but nothing like before. The only downer is it does dry your face a little after you wash it. I will definitely repurchase, a little goes a long way. I've had my bottle for about 2 months and i use it twice a day (morning and night).

I received a coupon in the mail to try this product for free, so I picked it up from Wal Mart. I introduced this into my skin care routine as my morning face wash, so I don't know how well it removes makeup. It comes out as a foam and rinses clean.
However, as with many of the other reviewers here, this product broke me out. For me, I think it was the castor oil in it. That would also explain why the OCM did not work out for me either. So at least now I have identified an ingredient my skin can not tolerate.

This is horrible. It broke my skin out so badly. The perfume in it is way too strong, they have it mentioned on the back as masking fragrance. It's more than masking, it's overpowering. But obviously the worst part is it breaks my skin out. I had to go back to the store to get another face wash, one that works, and I noticed this Cetaphil was marked down for clearance. If only they had done that 2 weeks ago I would have saved myself $$ and a handful of zits. Thanks cetaphil! BIG MISTAKE!

This face wash was a huge disappointment. Slightly expensive for a drugstore face wash too. I've used much better for half the price. The first week or so of using this I had no acne but wanted to find a face wash that could control my oily skin. Now after two weeks, my face has horribly broken out all over the place. My jawline, cheeks, forehead, areas that haven't broken out like this since I was in middle school. I can feel that it doesn't remove all of the dirt and oil in my pores like my previous acne wash had. Will definitely not be using this again since I am having to do serious repair on my skin now.

I was originally using cetaphil oily skin cleanser for like 2 months, which is recommended by my derm. and it works soo well on my face. and then suddenly on the 3rd month my derm said they no longer having cetaphil oily cleanser, he will gv me a new one but still cetaphil. turned out its cetaphil dermacontrol foam wash.

i was excited to use it but after few days, i can see that my face started to hv some pimples back but i still try to keep calm and blame on my menses. but my face become worseeee and a big pimple also coming out then i cant stand it anymore!

i went to see my derm again but he dont think its because of this cleanser. and gv me more antibiotics instead. but after that i went straight to watsons to buy the old cetaphil oily cleanser. and i can see slowly my face recovering again. i regret using this cleanser honestly. huhu. and i dont know why my face looks dull and darker when using this cleanser.

When I started using it and it didn't control my oil for long. After a couple minutes my nose would be all oily. Another problem I have with it is that when you start massaging it into your face, it drys up pretty quick. It also made me break out with big stubborn pimples that lasted forever.

Got this per my dermatologist suggestion. I like to use it in the morning as it refreshes my skin and doesn't make it feel tight after washing. Not too great at removing make up so I only use it in the morning time. It's very gentle and leaves my skin supple and prepped for cosmetics. Definitely will keep repurchasing.

in response to auntiec30, your asking if what product is good for very oily skin? I think it is the Histomer Oily Skin Formula. My dermatologist recommend that to me. Before I have very greasy skin but since I started using that histomer, my skin start to look good, but I just noticed that it makes my skin look darker.

my dermatologist recomended this to me when she was prescribing me products to help my acne. i cant tell how it helps my acne because i am using other medicated topical creams and gels. but if i do use any other face wash i do breakout more. i like this product, it foams very well onto your hand but disapears mostly when applied to my face. but i am ony using one and a half pumps for my face, while others are using up to 4 pumps.i use this twice everyday on my face, back, and chest so this lasts me about 3 months. im on my second bottle. i give the packaging quality only a 2 because 1. this prodect is hard to travel with because it is a foaming cap so it does spill a little if put into a suitcase( i put this product in a baggy when traveling) and 2. because when iv used up about half of the bottle the pump seems to lock a little when pushed down all the way. this has happend with both bottles iv botten. overall i will continue to buy this face wash unless my derm recoments me something other than this. it clears away my oil without stripping my totally and there is never any residue left on my skin. plus it works great for back and chest acne which iv had problems with.

Keeps my skin clean and foams up nicely. This product is becoming a staple of mine, I'm already on my fifth bottle. It smells fresh and makes my skin feel smooth . I use it morning and night, and in conjunction with the matching moisturizer for day-time. It's helped fade my stubborn acne-scars and prevents any new breakouts from erupting. About three pumps are enough for me to get a thorough clean. I honestly can't say that this helps me control my oily skin. But, I'd much rather deal with the oils than have a product that strips them. Ladies, oily skin is a good thing! Embrace the shine = less wrinkles in the future. I'm on a few prescriptions for my acne (light t-zone breakouts) and they've helped me the most. This product is good for keeping my skin clean, but it's not a miracle worker. I wouldn't recommend it to someone that has moderate-severe acne. The perfume in this might be too much for sensitive skin.

made my skin look dull and did nothing for my oil prone skin.... used it in conjunction with the moisturizer.

went back to using cetaphil's oily facial cleanser before the bottle even finished.

Used this product for 1 month.

I LOVE this product. I love anything that is Cetaphil. The brand has no bad products for my skin. I used their gel facewash for oily skin and used up the entire huge bottle, so I wanted to try this one. I love the foam. That's the best part about this. It works great with my Clarisonic.
My face really hasn't been as oily lately. This strips the skin of the bad oils, but leaves the good.
If you love Cetaphil and have oily or acne prone skin, try this out. It is very gentle and won't upset the acne on the face. It really works wonders.

I've only used this a few times. I am using this in the am to wash off retin a and moisturizer. I dont think I would try and remove make up at night with this.I use neutrogena grapefruit scrub at night and have always felt it was too harsh for a light morning wash.

EDIT...I do not think this cleaned my face good at all. And I think it had too much glycerin which if I use too much will clog my pores and I think it started to, it felt like it left a film on my face.
