This was my first time dying my hair such an odd colour. I used Alpine Green over bleached streaks in my hair.

-Dying. I didn't do it myself. Instead, I got a hairdresser to bleach my hair and then put the colour in it, since I suck at dying my own hair. :)

-Washing-Okay... I was expecting some staining, but not as much as it did! I didn't rinse it as throughly as I should have the first time, and bam! My face, neck, back, hands and shirt were turquoise. Nail polish remover is your friend.

-Colour-Since I used Alpine green, I was expecting it to be a lot darker... its shade was closer to the Apple green, so I was slightly disappointed. But my hair has been dyed for two and a half months now, and while the colour has faded, it is still very beautiful, and has faded to varying colours.

-Lasting-As I said, two and a half months so far. There are some parts where it is nearly blonde again, but the majority of it is still a vibrant green. I like the staying power. I am hopeful it will fade completely away eventually though.

-Use again?-Yes! I am planning on dying it Atlantic Blue next. My whole head this time :D

I have peek-a-boo blue highlights and I've used everything. I assumed this will be the best since it received really good reviews on here. Uhh.. No. The color payoff is great but staying power, no. In less than 2 weeks, the bright electric blue turned into a ugly green. Uhhh gross! Honestly, the best I've used was Prevana. So sorry, Jerome Russell, I won't be repurchasing from you.

I used to have deep blue-based deep purple hair and I previously used Splat but Splat's purple was actually a magenta so I thought I'd try this out. I bought the color Violet and from my experience with it, it has incredible staying power for a temporary alternative dye. I didn't bleach my hair a light blonde but it was in that stage between dirty blonde and very light chestnut brown and after dying my hair with Violet, it was a rich deep blue-based purple and I couldn't have been happier. It also smells nice, like blueberries, but it stains like a mother so be careful when showering and sleeping. I would recommend a layer of petroleum jelly on your face, neck, shoulders, hands, and arms and wear a really crappy t-shirt as the dye will get on you.
After a fresh dye, it was a deep-purple and I haven't tried any of the other colors but I believe they all have about the same lasting power before a touch up - about 1 and a half to 2 months, depending on how faded you mind it being. Mine always lasted about a month and a half before it started becoming a dull brown purple.
The price is also great for what you get! I usually only need half a jar to cover my whole head - my hair then was about shoulder length.
Great alternative hair dye and definitely check it out if anyone's interested in long-lasting and relatively cheap hair dye.

I effing LOVE Punky Colour by Jerome Russell!!! The colors are so beautiful, and very pigmented and rich color. I have used Manic Panic, and in my experience it washes out way too fast and is a waste of money. Punky Color will not budge and even on unbleached hair, the color is still very strong (if you have black hair though, you will need to lighten your hair). My colors of choice are Rose Red (extremely beautiful magenta/hot pink/with a touch of purple) and Red Wine (pinkish burgundy red). They look great mixed together. Anyway, Punky does not budge in my hair, even with daily washing it looks amazing for at least a month or more. It has a thick cream texture and smells like grape juice. My procedure is: Paint on punky color with tint brush on clean, dry hair. Wrap hair in plastic bag or shower cap, then cover with hair turban. This prevents it from drying out and keeps the warmth in. Leave on as long as possible (6-8 hrs) and rinse out. Do this on a day when you aren't going anywhere... the longer you leave it, the longer your color will last. Yes when you shampoo it will stain everything in sight because it is SO pigmented, but clean your bathroom with bleach and you'll be good. Also, your hair is likely to stain anything it touches when wet, so you should blow dry or keep it in a bun until it dries. And to protect your pillow from staining (even when dry, the first week or so, it will rub off on stuff) put an old t-shirt around your pillowcase to protect it. If you are willing to take some extra care, Punky is amazing for unnatural shades. I get compliments all the time on my magenta hair. I order it online from ebay or amazon for $8-10 shipped. I can't rave enough about this stuff.

Can we say stain city! I am used to using Manic Panic that was quite messy and bled every time i washed or wet my hair but it NEVER stained my sink the way this did. I used Red Wine..while the color is nice too hard to clean up. My hands are a mess.

never again..stickin to Manic Panic

So I joined makeup alley just so I could review this product. I came on here today to decided whether I should try manic panic or another type of hair color to put purple in my hair. After reading all the reviews on here I'm so happy that I found Jerome Russell punky colors. I've tried other semi dyes out there and the major things I noticed was unlike other dyes this one does dye smells good, and did not rinse out immediately. I was anctipating that the dye would stain my tub but it didn't! Almost immediately my hair ran clear after using the purple color. That made me feel like the color I'd actually going last longer than others. Plus my husband hates the smell of hair dye but he actually liked how my hair smelled after. I am a fan of punky colours and will buy this from now on!

I LOVE YOU PUNKY COLOUR!! hahahaha. I have very long blonde hair and my husband thought it would be cool if I put pink streaks in it...so I rolled on down to my local beauty supply and picked up this in "flamingo pink" as well as a highlighting cap. I used the pink on my hair..let it sit about an hour then I washed it out and holy smokes this sh** is VIBRANT. Since the first time..I have used this about 4 different times. It fades into a lovely cupcake pink over my blonde hair and its really cute. It even smells really good!

I really have no problems with this stuff..it lasts a long time in my hair before I have to redo it and I dont shampoo my hair too often which helps.

PS: I suggest when you first use it leave it on for a good hour or so and when you rinse it out use warm water and also a dab of shampoo (not a ton just a bit) do not fear that it will instantly wash away the color because it wont! The bit of shampoo will just help get it even and rinse out extra dye that might otherwise stain something later! Then rinse in cold water to "set it" :D

I love this stuff...if it ever gets discontinued I will die hahaha.

I love this stuff

I've tried manic panic and that stuff is crap.
Punky color is the only one that has true staying power.
I've done strips of color and my full head.

My favorites are Turquoise, Lagoon Blue, and Poppy Red.

The smell is great too. I wish all hair dye smelled like this.
Most places it sells for $7-$10. slightly more expensive than a box dye but when i did my full head Poppy Red I only had to redye it once in 5 months to keep the color vibrant

I love Punky Colour!!! I have used Manic Panic, Beyond the Zone, Color Jams and Punky. So far, Punky beats them all! Manic Panic is good for those who change their haircolor frequently and I use it when I'm testing out new color schemes but it fades, always, within a week or two and I only shampoo my hair 2-3 times a week! It's also quite a bit more expensive for a small tub whereas Punky is cheaper and you get more. Manic Panic does have Punky beat with the fact that Punky has a limited color selection. I'm so happy that Punky is now being sold at Ulta because it can be hard to find outside of head shops and record stores. Punky is deeply conditioning, has a thick, creamy, easy to apply consistency and is VIBRANT!!! As with all higher-quality(stronger pigmented) semi-dyes, it does not start out as the color on the bottle but Punky does fade into the true color...and stays there! All other semis that I have used seem to fade through all of their base colors in the most ugly ways possible( i'm looking at you, Manic Panic) with Punky, i only retouch my color once a month and the fading colors are usually just as pretty as the initial shade. I've never had a problem with color leakage or staining. I don't even use gloves most of the time and my stained hands are always gone after a shower or some dishwashing soap. It will stain carpet and porous surfaces, and clothes...but EVERY dye does. I rinse out in the kitchen sink. I love the tub packaging too. When it gets down to the very bottom of the pot, I usually mix conditioner with it to get more uses or mix up my own shade. I just recently used Flamingo Pink and Violet for dip-dyed ombre effect on my ends and I receieved nothing but compliments. I agree with an above reviewer as well, Alpine Green is one of the loveliest shades of green that I have ever used and it fades to a pretty, teal blue over months. I'm a Punky user for life!

So far I have tried two different Punky Colors on bleached strips of my naturally dirty blonde hair, and they both came out really well. The first one I used was in Turquoise, which I dyed nearly seven months ago AND STILL IS IN VISIBLE IN MY HAIR. this color just won't come out. it faded to a mint green (which still looks cool, but). When i first used it, it took awhile to wash out, stained minimally, and was quite vibrant. it eventually faded to a greenish color, and then mint green. the second color i used was the straight Purple, which is actually more pinky-purple. it looks like a dreamy, magical pink color.i actually applied it over some of the turquoise and it came out a very cool blue. The pink fades way easier though, i find myself touching it up every week or so for vibrancy, so that's kind of a pain. But this line is definitely worth trying out if you're looking for some fun colors !

OMG! I have used manic panic and other demi colors from Sally Beauty. I was at Ulta and saw this brand on clearance in the exact plum shade (red wine) I needed. I recently stripped my black hair and went to a burgandy, Because my hair is porous and can tend to grab permanant color too dark I wanted to use a demi color. This brand really stays in your hair, BUT BE WARNED.....cover your sink, floor etc. Anywhere color may splash when rinsing it out. A soap bubble hit my floor and I had an instant stain. A little cleaning solution lightened it but be very careful! And the product smells amazing!

I've used a couple colors and am dyeing the ends of my hair plum as I type this. I haven't used it in awhile but the color does last. I haven't used manic panic cus I had such good luck with these dyes.
EDIT:
I only do the ends of my hair but I have not had any problems with color getting on pillows or clothes. rinse until water is clear and if you use maybe an apple cider vinegar rinse that can get some extra color that your hair hasn't absorbed out.
I have been conditioner washing my hair instead of using shampoos. it's better for hair. I had my color in for 3 weeks before I colored again... not that I "needed" to since my hair was still purple but since easter is coming up and I have a family function to attend I wanted to redo my hair. I've thought about trying manic panic but I have such great results with punky I don't know if I will try manic panic's ultra violet.

I would not recommend this product to my worst enemy. It has ruined everything of mine from my sweaters to my pillows. No matter whether this stuff is wet or dry newly applied or in for days it rubs off on everything you wear, when you touch your hair. Worst temp hair dye EVER!

I have Atlantic Blue and Turquoise.
Pros:
-Smells like blueberry markers
-non-damaging
-Resists fading
-easy application
-i can use the tub as slowly as i want (no mixing)
-thicker consistency than Manic Panic IMO
-and also cheaper

cons:
-takes a long time to wash out the excess (I usually end up with blue stains on my cheek lol)
-gets messy real easy

Notes:
-Works best on lighter hair colours. (Kind of obvious.)
-It is freaking hard to get out of bleached hair. Could be good or bad thing but can someone tell me a way to get it out other than bleaching it? I have a feeling Color zap and those products don't work on semi-permanent non-oxidizing dyes..

I've been dying my hair unnatural colors on and off for nearly a decade, I started at age 14 with manic panic, used that for a few years, was unimpressed with the staying power and graduated to Special Effects. I've used Special Effects in many colors and been pretty pleased, but frankly, it's expensive, at $14 a bottle, and only available in my area at a sketchy goth headshop....and besidesI was just ready to try something new. Ulta carries Punky Colors, I had a coupon, so I figured I had nothing to lose. I bought Red Wine and Purple for about $15 for both, major score, and I got to work on a chunk of my hair. I haven't used an unnatural hair color in about two years, and my current shade is a (color treated...multiple times) medium cinnamony brown, with some light cinnamony brown bits, especially towards the ends. my goal was to have a chunk of hair towards the front in a purplish burgundy. I didn't bleach first, cuz I didn't want it to be too bright, I was going somewhat subtle this time around. I mixed the two colors and left it in for about an hour and a half, I usually would let it go longer, sometimes even overnight, but I was impatient...and it came out beautifully! Only had it a couple days so far, but the staining on my scalp and hairline tells me the color should last at least as well as Special Effects. Yes, it was super messy to rinse out, and took forever for the water to run clear, but that is the nature of these sorts of dyes, so I wasn't bothered by it. Use some bleach on your shower and it will come right out. The jar packaging is actually my preference, as I can get every bit of color out with ease. The smell is by far the best I've ever experienced in a hair color, fake grape...not my favorite smell in general, but certainly more than pleasant for a hair color. All in all, I will most definitely be buying Punky Color again, and I'm thinking of dying my whole head with the colors I have, because the color came out just that nice.

I have colored my daughter's hair over the years. The first color product I used, Manic Panic, was very difficult to work with and it faded pretty fast. I went looking for another product, and found Punky Color. They make a great assortment of colors, and the texture is kind of thick, so there is no worry about dripping. It's scented like fruit, which while sitting with the color on your head, is pleasant. The color stays in for a pretty long time. The only downside is rinsing it out..it has to be rinsed again and again before it runs clear. I bleached my daughter's hair using the punky color kit...the instructions are easy to follow, and the colors (she's had purple, blue, and green so far) come out bright.

Well for starters, I have been dying my hair for a really long time and over the years I have tried many hair dyes. I have used manic panic, raw, special effects, you name it. I've probably used it. About a year ago, I stumbled upon "punky color" by Jerome Russel and I instantly fell in love. The colors come out so vibrant and rich! Unlike other people, I have absolutely no problem with staining. My sink and bath tub are white but if I get dye on it, I scrub it with some baking soda and toothpaste and presto, no proof that dye was ever there! Punky color dye is simply fabulous, they have a wide range of colors and it is no harder to apply than Manic Panic. This color stays in for a long time and always fades pleasantly. In canada, I can scoop up a container of punky color for a mere $10 whereas Manic Panic costs $16 in most stores. I have treid bright yellow, atlantic blue, lagoon blue, purple, poppy red and spring green. All of the colors are just so stunning. As a highschool student, coming to school with vibrant crazy hair is always a plus. I get tons of compliments. The price and sheer good quality makes "punky color" my number one HG product.
