I have a sensitive - oily acne probe skin. I have used many products but my acne problems still did not resolve. One time, it was so bad that I have to go to a dermatologist and I have been using the cleanser that the Dr gave to me, for more than a year now. In between, I did try some other brands but it always end up in dissappointment. Until recently, I decided to go for organic and natural products and read the reviews on Lush Angel on Bare Skins. When I went down to the store, the lady recommend me to use Herbalism instead. As Angel on Bare Skins are for general skin type and Herbalism is more suitable for calming oily skin. Hence, I got the Herbalism and ever since, I am so in love with this cleanser. Not only it did not cause any more acne, my face glows after using it.
I am happy to find a suitable cleanser after so long / tired of trying.
However, even through most of the Lush products work very well but not all are free from chemicals such as Paraben and SLS, but their cleansers are. Hence, if you are looking for natural products, do not assume that all Lush products are organic and chemical free. Do take a look at their ingredient list and decide some of the products maybe a miss because of the chemicals inside. Would strongly encourage and support Lush to use better alternatives to replace Paraben/SLS/Proplene Glyercol.

I almost finished my jar, which took me about 4 months. I bought this because the lady at the store recommended this to me, because I was looking for something that could clear out the redness on my skin (I think Angels on Bare Skin would be better for that after I did some research but alright)

How I use this: with my fingers, I take about a 3-blueberry sized amount in the palm of my hand, add some water and start rubbing it in my hand until it becomes a dryish kind of paste. Then apply it to my entire face, use it as a scrub and then leave it on for a minute or two. It's actually really fun to use

This claims to clean oils from your skin, exfoliate and help to calm the skin. I noticed it didnt do a lot for the oils on my skin. If any, it left kind of an oily residue on my face. So I don't use this before I want to put on make up or something. Maybe before going to bed or something. It exfoliates alright, my skin does feel really soft after using this, especially the first coupe of times. Calms down my skin? Hmm I would say it helped, I wouldnt say it's a miracle or anything.

For the packaging. 5 of these empty jars and you get a free face mask, so that's pretty cool. But that's about it. The lid of my jar broke so I couldn't properly lose it which was a pain in the ass. Since I use this in the shower, it was hard not to get water in the jar. After 3 months, the cleanser started to get really damp. I wouldnt call it really hygienic but I didnt mind either.

Conclusion: an alright cleanser, not anything special. Did exfoliate my skin and maybe calmed it down a little, but I have used better. I wouldnt buy this again, especially cause I want to try other cleansers from lush!

So when I went to lush looking to buy a facial cleanser, the employee recommended Herbalism to me over my choice of Dark Angels because she reckoned it would be more suitable for my oily face covered in acne. When I first smelt the product, in all honesty it wasn't exactly pleasant (kind of like wet wood blended with grass, a ton of herbs and nuts). The smell was quite strong. So I've been using it for over a week now, and surprisingly had really good results come from it. Firstly, I had this HUGE acne on my face when I brought the product, and after 3-4 days of using it, my acne was gone without any pain or trouble. My face significantly cleared up of pimples and is less bumpy. It also helped with my skin irritations, as I noticed my pimple scars and redness had reduced. I totally did not expect this, especially since I the facial cleanser and exfoliator was way more expensive than this one. This cleanser is also a really gentle exfoliant. So if you have really oily skin, that is acne prone, I would really recommend this. However, on the instructions it says take a pea sized amount, I recommend a kidney bean sized amount and don't put too much water into the mixture on your palm (5-6 drops will be enough to get you a good and easily applicable consistency).

Firstly, I adore Lush. I am a massive fan of their natural & animal friendly approach to beauty & particularly impressed at the amount of Vegan options available. The stores always smell divine & the workers are always friendly & eager to help. Ok so, I usually use Angels on Bare Skin face cleanser and while I find that to be a lovely face wash that did what it claimed it would do I felt like I needed something that was a bit more designed to target spots/blemish than Angels.. was. My skin is awfully blemish prone, I get hormonal breakouts that last until a day before I get my next hormonal breakout. I always have at least 2 spots at any given time which as long as they are kept in check & easy to conceal doesn't get me down to much, but I'm constantly in search of a product that will at least minimise the breakouts staying power. I used to have oily skin as a teenager but now it's pretty normal apart from the constant spots, which seem to congregate around my jawline. Herbalism has a herbal/vinegary smell to it which I can see putting some people off but which I don't mind, I don't really like it to be fair but I'm not sensitive to smells so I can put up with it. It's bright "halloween witch" green which I love for some reason and I the pot I bought in store was packed with product! Przemek, the guy who made my wash was feeling generous :D!! The instructions say to use a pea size amount, work it in your wet hands to a paste/milk and apply to a wet face. Pretty much the same story with every Lush face cleanser. Having tried this method with Angels..I didn't feel like I was getting enough product on my skin & that it was getting a good enough cleanse so now I use a slightly different method. I take a slightly larger amount of product (1 to 2 blueberries size depending on how I'm feeling) wet my face and then apply the product straight onto my face, without working it between my hands. I feel like more of the product gets on my face this way and it spreads really easily too so I get all my face coated in more than enough product to really work it in and give my face a good clean. Consistency wise, the product is thick & gritty not watery or gloopy. When spreading it around my face it goes watery but the grit keeps it on my skin and I don't feel like its just running off my face. It gives a lovely gentle/medium exfoliation (depending on how much elbow grease you use) and leaves skin feeling clean and smooth. I use a wipe to remove my makeup so I can't comment on its ability to remove makeup but its gritty texture leads me to believe it will at least be better at removing makeup than Angels...is (although to be fair that's not the purpose of Angels) So far I'm impressed. My skin feels clean & smooth & I love how it doubles as a scrub. While its too soon to comment on its spot tackling abilities (i have only been using it once a day for 3 days/i don't wash my face in the morning) I can say that I haven't had any new spots emerge so far (good considering its the time of the month that a few more spots decide to make an appearance) and the ones I already have feel calm & haven't gotten any worse. I shall update this review in a week or two as I feel I should have enough experience about its spot tackling ability then. :) I have given it 5 stars in the meantime because of how soft & clean it makes my skin & because of how natural and animal friendly it is.

This product breaks me out with deep, big and painful pimples and I'm positive what is responsible for that. It is the glycerine. I recently found my skin does not like too much glycerine in the products. It tolerates a little glycerine, but not too much. Strange, but true.
However, the other ingredients are very nice and I would be glad if they had substituted the glycerine with avocado oil and some safe synthetic emollient.

This is the only product I can trust on my face right now. I gave it a three because after the initial two weeks of very nice skin, it went back to normal. It doesn't cause me to breakout, but it doesn't stop me from breaking out either. Just like the other cleansers, it's fairly easy to dissolve and use. It gives me a clean feeling without being too stripping. I'm on my second pot now, but as soon as a I find a better cleanser, I won't be repurchasing this.

I bought this three days ago and I use it daily, two times a day. I moisturize after each time I wash, so it doesn't make my skin dry. I feel that it leaves this light, slippery residue on my face. That's one of the main cons, since I usually can't stand products that leave a residue on my face. However, this is my first product from Lush, so I want to love it...I really do. There's little grans of something in there that acts as an exfoliant, it makes my face soft, but St. Ives can do that...and for a much cheaper price as well. So far after use, I got two pimples on my upper lip, I don't know if it's Herbalism's fault or just because of hormones, but I'll wait and see. My rating will probably change later.

Last night after I used it my face felt clean, soft and fresh but this morning I woke up with my face red, irritated and itchy and its getting worse. Sadly it turns out I'm allergic to something in it. I advise other people to look at the ingredients and make sure they're not allergic to it.

I bought this when I was suffering from really bad, slightly cystic acne. I decided to buy this after reading the reviews and I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. This product saved my skin! I've been suffering from acne for so long and after trying everything this seemed to be the only thing that made a HUGE improvement. It calmed my skin so much that there was no bumps or redness and I could feel the softness and smoothness for the first time in 3 years. The only downside about this is that it does stop working but only after its cleared your skin. If you've suffered from long term acne definitely give this a try it will give you the confidence that you once had back.

I don't know why this product receives such low ratings because it works really great for my skin. I got this as a sample and have now bought a whole tub. I think on its own it is quite harsh and too much for daily use. What I have found that works for me is that I mix some of my angels on bare skin with this and cleanse daily with the mixture. I love how clean my skin feels after using it and how much fresher it is. I feel like my pores aren't clogged up any more and I love how natural it is. I would repurchase.

Well, I purchased Herbalism because I wanted to get rid of my acne and have been using it for the past week. I have combintion, sensitive, and acne prone skin. (Yes, I was SO blessed)

Needless to say, it made me breakout. My skin feels incredibly dry and weird. I'm telling myself that it's purging my skin, but I'm not sure.

Unlike the other reviews, I don't mind the awkward applying to the skin. It comes in a container. You pinch out a pea size amount, you rub it on the palm of your hand, and rub against your face. The smell doesn't bother me either.

I will continue to use Herbalism for another week or so. I'm kind of disappointed as it initially did make my breakout and hasn't cleared up yet, but as a loyal Lush customer, I am hoping it will clear out my skin soon! I said no to buying it again because I want to see if it clears up my skin first. Will update my review later!

After a previously mediocre experience with a roll cleanser from Lush (Angels on Bare Skin, and it did nothing, if you're interested) I decided to go out and get a more potent product. The all-natural side to this also appealed to me.
This cleanser works just like all of Lush's other roll cleansers- you pinch a bit out, smoosh it up with water in your hand, and then apply the paste/milk to your skin. I love that aspect of this cleanser.
The smell, however, is hideous. It smells like weak tea to me, and I hate it. It isn't as noticeable once there's water in the mix, but still.
The effect it has on my skin is just as mixed up as the other features of this cleanser.
This completely blitzes my spots or acne- within two weeks of using this, my previously red and irritated skin was left clear and smooth.
However, I don't feel that this alone gets rid of the oil. I use a makeup wipe, and then this, and then a toner from Lush before I feel like my skin is clean and all the grease and oil is off it.
It also makes my skin look rather dull.
Overall, a great cleanser if you need to get rid of spots, but steer clear and go for something that's better for oil or gives you nice bright skin if you don't have that problem.

great all rounder when my skin is feeling like it needs a little TLC. not too harsh and calms my skin nicely. removes traces of makeup etc just fine, does leave residue in my sink, but nothing a normal cleaning routine wont sort out i.e. no need to use bleaches etc to clean your sink.

I've been dealing with some horomonal breakouts which I've been able to control with La Roche Posay products (Paraben free, great for sensitive skin). I assumed that perhaps because my skin was doing so well with less harsh of products that it'll be good to switch to something even more natural.....WRONG. Had about 6 cysts pop up after using this product for about 3 days. In the trash can it goes. Never again Lush.

I got this as a sample and the SA was kind enough to give me enough for two weeks. The smell is weird. It smells strong and vinegary mixed with herbs. I don't really like it as it almost burns my nose.
I have combination skin and was told that this would help balance it out. It did make my dry patches moisturized, but my oily spots were still oily and it felt like I had a slight film on my skin. Also it was kind of chunky and I couldn't quite get the chunks out when I'd put it on my face. I also don't have many break outs so I'm not sure why I was recommended this. It would be better for someone with acne prone skin.
I gave it three lipies because of the smell and the fact that it just didn't do anything for me. Not saying it's a bad product and no one should get it, but it's just not for me. I find that Let the Good Times Roll is more suited for my skin type.

I am absolutely obsessed with this face wash. it can be a bit messy and the smell isn't all that great, but what it does for the skin completely trumps anything negative I could say. it moisturizes and helps with the dry patches on my skin. I have only been using this product for about a week and I can already see a difference. My skin is so much more supple and and my breakouts are under control. love this product!

Made for oily skin but left me with a strange residue on my face after I used it. It wasn't really oily but it was sort of a weird texture and I had to use another cleanser after. Stopped using it after 3 - 4 times because I really didn't like the feeling of my skin after I used it! I would recommend the fresh farmacy cleanser from lush instead :)

I have been battling acne since 14 and now i am 22. Not anything severe and most of the time I made things worse (picking) grrrrrr! But it got worse as time went on.. Why? Well because I became more insecure about my face, staying home from school because I felt so ugly and embarrassed to go to school! I started to research and experiment with everything possible, proactiv, obagi, clean n clear , neutrogena, cetaphil, retin a, 10% benzoyl peroxide gel and creams. Every drugstore product there is ! I've tried it all. I have even tried the " caveman" theory and stopped washing my face, while it worked for the very beginning giving my skin a break from the chemicals, it later got worse. So again tried different things and the one I always went back to was proactiv, just because it was the only thing that gave me noticeable results. I never used it for too long bc it dried me out soooo bad and my face felt flushed and got red so easily. I've even tried bar soaps, and dandruff shampoo like selsum blue. I was getting so frustrated year after year thinking " this is the year I'm going to find a cure" I became frustrated and began to pick, pick at every tiny bump it was almost like a stress reliever.. I'd pick to no end! And then become depressed when I've seen what I've done to my face... So id go to Walgreens browse the aisle for another cure, or research online for hours for remedies . Even home remedies didn't work, the egg yolk or honey or tomatoes slices on face. I was about to just give up and live with it until I came across a girl I seem on facebook who was raving about lush herbalism, I did my research and find the nearest carrier, walked in knowin what I was going to purchase, this cleanser, tea tree water toner and grease lightning . I saw improvements the first night, my skin was moisturzrd and not oily, my flakes started to go away each day and my marks and pimples started fading :)! I'm on week two and everyday my skin improves with this 3 step regimen. It's all natural which makes me happy knowing I'm not using chemicals on my face anymore! I can't thank lush enough this is my first review since being 14 dealing with acne, I have finally found something that continues to improve my acne and texture and tone and I wanna let the world know! Try it! You've got nothing to loose but a whole lot to gain ! Your confidence back:) love it!

LOVE THIS. Happens to work very well for my skin. It's a little weird to use at first but if you get past the smell/ making a paste out of it, it's great! My face always feels so clean when I wash with this. Tried Angels on Bare Skin once and it didn't do nearly the job this stuff did. I also love that you can buy how ever much (or little) at a time as you want. Five bucks worth lasts me a few months.

It saddens me to see so many bad reviews for herbalism, but I understand as LUSH skincare items seem to be a huge hit or a huge miss for me. Herbalism just so happens to be a huge hit for me. I had tried Angels on Bare Skin which did absolutely nothing for me, and I tried Aquamarina which didn't cleanse and resulted in clogged pores and bad breakouts. I use Ultrabland at night to take off my makeup, but I was looking for a cleanser to add to that. The SA with glowing skin said she uses Herbalism. I shied away from it b/c of the reviews, however my acne was getting progressively worse and I was desperate. Herbalism combined with Tea Tree Water has made my acne recede and made my spots start to fade!! I am in love!! I personally love the vinegary smell. I use about a blueberry size to make a paste, gently rub all over my skin, let sit for about a minute, then wash off with warm water and use a cotton ball with Tea Tree Water to wipe off any residue. I use this AM and PM and my skin is looking so much better!! I would consider Herbalism more of a gentle exfoliator, so I think this needs to be used in conjunction with a cleanser in order to not clog pores. I highly recommend giving this a try despite of the bad reviews. It may not work, but you might find it to be a miracle product like I did!! I'm going to buy more soon as I'm running out of my $5 supply!
UPDATE: just repurchased a 3 month supply. Love this stuff

EDIT: after going through two tubs, I don't think this cleansed my face thoroughly enough. Am now trying fresh farmacy for my acne with no results so far
