I am usually always on the lookout for a liner that will not add shimmer but give me a dramatic cat eye for my usally day to day look. And I was sick and tired of my liquid eyeliner that would get all over and have shimmer and crease halfway throught the day. When my friend suggested I try out this product I was like why not. My first over all idea of this product was the consistency. Gel is not something I have ever used before but i noticed that most if not all of my favorite youtube make up gurus were using it I decided to give it a try. it is a gel like consistency which does make it kind of difficult to use at first but what i love is that a little goes a long way and you can spread it very easily. The first time I used it I was horrified by the brus hthat came with the pakcage it becomes very stiff after just a few applications so washing this brush is mandatory as is with all makeup brushes. Another thing I love and hate about this product is the fact that it comes in a glass pot which makes scooping it out easy for application which is much easier than trying to use every drop of a liquid. Another thing is that this stuff does last. And it does require a little extra scrubbing when taking it off. my trick is baby shampoo. And way if anybody has anything else to say about this let me know..thanks

My biggest problem with the Maybelline "Blackest Black" Gel Liner is it's hardly even black. I'd say it's more of a charcoal color. Once you get halfway through it it tends to dry out like the other gel liners. I did not have any issues with it staying put. I have oily eyelids, but I always use Urban Decay Primer Potion. I wouldn't buy it again just because I seem to have gone longer with higher priced gel liners like MUFE and MAC and they look much blacker. Some things it's worth shelling out some extra money for.

Amazing product. Lovely and very creamy, highly pigmented, easy application, incredible lasting power. Just perfect. Having said that, don't bother with the eggplant shade, it is the exact opposite.

I used this to tightline and it smudged after an hour in 50 degree weather. I do have really oily eyelids though although I expected a lot more from this. A cheap pencil lasts longer when I tightline than this gel eyeliner. I did like the brush that came with it though and the product itself went on smoothly and easily. Really disappointed it didn't last long. I tried it a 2nd time and set with a black eyeshadow but it didn't help.

I love this product. For me, this IS very lasting and durable . I have tried Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliners and also have her brush to go with it and comparing the two for lasting power ....definitely the cheaper Maybelline wins . I do winged eyes with it very well .
I have worn this through 3 hours of very very sweaty workouts- the type of exercise where the sweat drips down your face and this gel eyeliner does not budge. I have also admittedly applied this the night before to save myself the trouble of doing my cat eye winged liner in the morning ( ahem .. ) and it has stayed put throughout the night.
The color is black enough for me , it goes on smoothly as well. 5 stars all the way for price point and function.
Tightlining - does very well too .
Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliners run after sweaty exercise but not this !

A makeup hint - apply your gel liner AFTER your eyeshadow or use a primer or powder .
Then after you apply your gel liner - especially if you do winged liner - get a very dark brown or black eyeshadow and dab some where you tightlined. This is will have your eyeliner to stay put forever till you remove it.

Pros:
Creamy, glides on like a dream
AWESOME packaging - hasn't dried out yet

Cons:
Moves around a lot and sometimes transfers onto crease because it doesn't really set
Not that black, let along the "blackest of black"
Fades throughout the day

Why I would NOT buy this product again:
I've worn this product for 2 months, and really tried to love it. But honestly, it sort of sucks. Maybe it's because I've used so many other better gel liners before (IE Inglot's & wet n' wild's gel liners). Maybelline's Eyestudio is less impressive. The only great quality about it is the super creamy formula. It doesn't tug on your skin and give that "skid mark" effect like other liners do when they're drying out. Neverthe less, that creamy consistency also is a con because it doesn't actually set. If it's a hot day when using this product, expect some transferring and smudging. If you accidentally rub your eye, expect yourself to reapply it. Last but not least, my biggest con is how gray it looks. I'm a dark skinned girl, so this charcoal black just doesn't cut it.

Even when I swatch it and leave it on my hand for a couple of minutes, this product just comes right off when I smudge-test it. Total disappointment.

HOWEVER, if I were to get some decent use out of this product (and I will after spending a good 10 bucks on this thing), I would use it as a black base for a smokey, dramatic look. I think this product would be amazing for that since it's so creamy, making it easy to blend.

And hey, I may intend to use this as a super black eyelid base just so I can use this up faster. I want to repurchase Wet n' Wild's gel liner and transfer it into the Maybelline Eyestudio liner packaging.

On the fence for this product. The packaging is neat, the brush that came with the eyeliner is fine, could have been more angled. Easy to apply on the eyelid (upper lash line), and good staying power. However for the waterline, this is not the eyeliner for the job. I bought this specifically for my water/tight line, and was disappointed. It looked good when first applied, but within 15 or 20 minutes it started to fade and smudge. It did smudge nicely, but still. It's a no-no for the waterline and tightline. One does have to remember that it is a drugstore eyeliner at a reasonable price.

This is a good gel liner, especially for a drugstore one! It stays in pretty well but it does smudge around the 6 or 7 hour mark but I have SUPER oily eyelids so for most other people it should be fine! The gel is really creamy and the product comes off easily with an eye makeup remover. I will probably repurchase!

This is definitely not waterproof, which I believe is one of the claims that they make. I bought it to tightline with and that just doesn't work. It transfers to my lower waterline and lashline and just looks quite messy. I have been using it regularly as a liner for my upper lash line and despite the fact that it is not waterproof, or even really smudgeproof, it does the job quite nicely. It lasts all day, it barely fades at all and it only smudges if I happen to rub my eye. It applies smoothly and evenly, is a nice shade of black and is easy to work with. I am not an expert at applying any type of liner so I appreciate that the formula is so user-friendly. I will not repurchase because I want something I can tightline with but I'll continue to use this on my upper lashline until I run out or it dries up.

No pigment whatsover, smudging literally after TWO hours, brush was less than satisfying. I bought this twice, because I really wanted to like this. The only positive thing is the packaging, but I gave up on this after 2 weeks. And by then, the product was already drying up anyways. Wet N Wild's as well as Essence's line of gel eyeliner works way better: good pigmentation, almost no smudging, much more satisfying. Will not buy again.

Pros: Product glides on well, it's creamy, has great consistency, and the packaging is cute and professional.

Cons: Not as black as I would like it to be, transfers to my upper lids within 1.5+ hours, and it's somewhat pricey for something that transfers. If I apply to my lower lid it melts and disappears from my waterline within 3 hours or more.

If you want a cheaper gel eyeliner that has longer staying power, try Essence's gel eyeliner. I have yet to try it but I have heard great, great things about it.

This eyeliner is a joke. Do they even test this stuff?? It has a terrible consistency that smudges like no tomorrow..After a few days it completely dried up and I tossed it. Disappointing..

This is the first gel eyeliner I've ever used. And it is very black, goes on smoothly, stays all day. The brush it comes with is very handy and works well with the product. Will repurchase.

For myself personally, a soon to be college student with barley any money to her name, this eye liner has been a staple since I decided to try it a year or two ago. One day I had decided "hmmmm. Liquid liner is much too messy for me and the pencil liners I have are not smooth at all". I went out to look for liner and saw this in the store. Never trying a gel liner before I picked it up for around 7$ and tried it out. In my experience, my eye shape allows the eyeliner enough room not to smudge on the top of my lid however, I have experience some smudging when applying it to other people. The packaging is a nice glass pot with twist on cap. I find this a nice feature because I can tell how much product is left as well as having a tight seal to keep the product nice and fresh. This product lasts me FOREVER. I think when I first bought it, I started using it pretty much everyday and by the time I needed a new pot, a year had gone by! It comes with a brush, which I like although the brush could be better. The point at the end is nice and exact enough for me but it would be nice if it were a little thinner as well as bent slightly so it's easier to see what I'm doing. The price is a little high but when it takes me a year to finish this product? I'd say its worth it. The only thing is suggest is to wait for it to dry on your lid a little before closing your eye. IT WILL SMUDGE! otherwise, a very decent product for me.

After travelling and leaving behind my MAC Blacktrack fluidline (nightmare!) and being miles from the nearest MAC counter, I picked this gel liner up in Boots for 7.99 whilst looking for a suitable replacement. I'd read some positive reviews online and hoped to love it, maybe even as a more affordable substitute.
It comes with a small brush for the product which you don't have to use but isn't too bad for application, though I preferred to use my own Bobbi Brown brush with the product on top of Urban Decay primer potion and a dusting of Urban Decay Naked shadow. It applied silky smooth and a true deep black, rather than grey like many 'black' liners do. The only negatives - it did annoyingly smudge on my upper lid after application which MAC liners do not, meaning I had to spend extra time redoing my eye makeup, and smudged again during the day despite using (in my opinion) the best eyelid primer around.
Although just over half the price of a MAC fluidline liner, I'd prefer to pay the extra for a better product and felt it was a bit pricey for the product in the packaging. You could do worse in my situation than buy this liner but I'll make sure I don't leave my MAC behind again!

SO this eyeliner applied very well, went on smoothly and the brush was really nice. definately a nicer brush then my essence one which i thought was incredible at the time. What i don't like about this eyeliner is that is doesn't go on as dark as I would like, smudges a little too much as the day goes on. I bet if i got the waterproof one though you wouldn't have the issues with smudging and being dark enough. all in all, its ok but not the best thing ever.

I wanted to love this product because everyone else seemed to but I just can't. It definitely doesn't stay on my waterline (most products don't) But it doesn't even stay on my top lash line either! Even when I set it with eyeshadow! I also feel it's overpriced. I'll stick w/ my Milani.

After hearing rave reviews about this liner I decided to give it a try. It goes on nicely & the brush that it comes with is decent. The problem I have with this liner is that it smudges like none other. I apply it to my upper lash line and within 2 or 3 hours it has smeared all over the place, especially in the corner of my eyes. I do have very oily lids so I didn't expect it to last forever but only 2 or 3 hours on top of my Urban Decay Primer Potion?! I definitely will not be repurchasing this liner.
