This was just clump city...really dark black and volumized well but to get the clumps out you had to work with it alot and that makes it not worth the money. Id skip this and splurge on a lipstick from YSL instead

The first time I bought this mascara it dried within one month. I was convinced that it was bad luck and that only that mascara was bad. However, the second one lasted for about 3 weeks before it started drying. For the price of this mascara (in Europe), this is completely unacceptable. It started to flake like crazy, especially after two coats. If you have a lot of money and don't mind repurchasing expensive mascaras after 3 weeks, this mascara will give you the biggest, boldest lashes, depending on the number of coats. It will not smudge and it will not flake for the first 2 weeks. I would have rated it a 5 if it was half the price - here (Norway) it costs about $37 in a tax free shop at the airport! Shocking!

This is the best mascara ever, it does provide DRAMATIC volume to ur lashes its the only mascara that turns them into falsies-like! Very dense, long and well fanned lashes ... Depends on ur application it may clump sometimes but I don't mine , clumps make eyes more noticable and defined (atleast that's what I personally think lol) .. It has a luxurious rosy scent to it but it won't linger. Although of their dramatic effect , it can be easily washed-removed due to its wet formula .. Its a huge plus to me cuz my eyelashes tend to fall out while rubbing with cleansers... Stay in place soft full lashes that won't hurt my eyes or original lashes .. Would definitely splurge on this gem again HG :)

Writing this after weeks of use, unfortunately it clumps a bit while applying its like a hit or miss when applying in terms of clump factor, and what i most hate is the flaking! It bothers me that i have to check my eyes during the day and remove the flakes though i just use it on upper lashes. However the effect it gives is nice (if that day i was lucky not to strugle with clumps while applying) but for me i am bothered more by the negatives so i am going back to my fav. Armani eyes to kill in black tube after this finishes :) Plus for me the tube is bulky. Which i am not a fan off.

I realllly want to give this mascara a 5. It is my HG mascara! It's worked best for me and has fulfilled my desire for big dramatic voluminous lashes. I like the sleek gold packaging and the sweet fragrance of the mascara as well. But the few issues I have are that the bristles get clumpy after 2 weeks or so and for an expensive mascara that's unacceptable. As a result of clumpy bristles the application becomes difficult and uneven. This mascara would've absolutely perfect if they changed the wand so that it didn't clump. Until then ill be using a lash comb with this mascara after the first two weeks because there's no other that comes close to it in the market.

HG mascara for me. It is perfect in every way and it is well worth the $30. You get a lot for the price and it looks like a work of art. The gold packaging is gorgeous and the word shocking is written on it in a cool way. The product itself has a rose scent and applies well. No clumping and lashes look significant and more so the more coats you apply. Brush separates and coats each lash a shiny black with just a few strokes, and best of all, this mascara does not smudge or flake on me (even in tears) but it washes away easily with soap and water. That is a huge plus for me. I am thrilled with this YSL Shocking mascara, and would highly recommend. So happy! It is a luxury item.

I haven't had a problem with this mascara. Yes it has a rose scent, it reminds me of Chanel's lipsticks, but it doesn't bother me. I find it applies well and I love the thick-yet-long lash effect it gives my lashes. The packaging is outstanding and I would likely buy it again unless something better catches my eye. I can't say it's my HG (hence 4 lippies), but it might be close.

I just used up a sample of this mascara and I must say that I really loved it! This mascara gives you the ultimate flirty, doll lashes. It does add some nice volume and definitely nice length and makes your lashes nice and black. The only real downside about this mascara is that is does start to smudge a little by the end of the day- not horribly but I will notice a small amount of mascara around my eyes. I would love to repurchase this mascara as it was totally HG material but it will definitely have to wait until I can treat myself to a full size because this stuff is bloody expensive!!!

EDIT: After a couple of days more use this mascara had seriously irritated my eyes and contact lenses to the point where I couldn't wear my lenses for a week. When I returned it to the store, I was told by the SA that it contains a lot of 'coarse, thick fibres' for the lengthening effect, and despite it saying hypoallergenic, she told me that she definitely wouldn't recommend it for lens wearers. BEWARE!!!

This mascara is in my opinion overpriced and a real disappointment. The best thing about it is the packaging. And in the interests of being fair, it does have good staying power. It doesn't really smudge, and there are only minimal bits of flaking. This is what I discovered in the two days I used it.

The brush is nothing special and the formula is very thick and clumpy. Its very difficult to apply without sticking all your eyelashes together and looking like you only have around 5 lashes on each eye which are incredibly thick! The sales assistant did warn me that the brush holds a lot, but even after wiping off all the excess to a bear minimum, I still had the same problem. Even a lash comb didnt really help, it just ended up a mess.

It appeared to have very little lengthening power too, which is very important to me.

But.... above all this , the SMELL is horrendous. It smells like someone has dumped a load of cheap perfume into the tube. To make matters worse, the smell lasts all day. I was actually sat at work, distracted by the smell of my eyelashes!

Don't waste your money and think that a big brand means better quality. In this case it definitely doesn't.

I bought this mascara in a xmas bundle and was so excited since it is ysl. Using it my excitement disappeared! The mascara is clumpy and comes out on the lash like a thick mess! Also gives that spidery look on your lashes that i hate. Def one of my disapointing purchases and a waste of money.

I loved the idea of a cherry black color! Alas, another sticky, clumpy mascara. It's not horrible, just not as creamy or silky as I would like. Still looking for my HG of mascaras...

Tried this out as a deluxe sample from Sephora and fell in love with it instantly. I got the regular black of course, wearing a pop lash color everyday would be weird. The little twist in the wand is what works the magic, it lengthens and adds a noticeable volume. Holds the curl throughout the day, though it's not waterproof, it doesn't smudge anyhow. It's everything I've hoped for from a mascara except for the price point . I got the full size at Saks recently and I'll probably keep using it till I find sth better.

This mascara is pretty poor quality considering it is made by such a well known 'luxurious' brand. The packaging is the best thing about this mascara, its lovely and expensive looking. The mascara itself could be compared to a very cheap drugstore brand, its clumpy and it dries and flakes off both on lashes and in the tube. Despite this it is a very pigmented and this is probably its only saving grace on the formulation side of things. Overall, I wouldn't waste my money on this again, extremely overrated product.

I don't know... I've been using it everyday for 3 weeks and it's dried out so much that I'm going to have to throw it out.
It irritated badly if any got in my eye. It does flake.
It's an intense black colour though.
Won't repurchase

Definitely gives me mega-wow! lashes. This mascara give both volume and length. It is easy for me to find a mascara that adds length. But my lashes are so fine, that this is the only mascara thus far that really thickens them. Lasts all day without flaking but I do use Estee Lauder lash primer plus. It does have a tendency to clump, but I use a lash comb to deal with this. Removes easily with my Loreal Youth Code cleanser. Does not irritate my sensitive eyes even though it is fragranced. Works better than DiorShow and Benefit They're Real mascaras, IMHO.

I considered this mascara for weeks before buying. I even went with a cheaper one because of the many negative reviews. Clumping, flaking, smudging... and the smell! As a contact lens wearer and being quite sensitive, that put me off at first.
But there was something about that lovely gold packaging and the carelessly scribbled "shocking" on the tube got to me.
Incidentally, I had a reaction to the mascara I bought that was unscented, contact lens-appropriate with no flaking, and no volume either. I thought **** it! And went with the YSL for my next try. Have to admit, me likey!. The smell can be a bit annoying at times, but thus far I've had no allergic reactions, hardly any flaking and only after two hours of volleyball, no smudging, and if you've done your homework, hardly any clumping at all. By that I mean remove excess before applying, and it's s shortcut to full, long lashes.
Still waiting to see how it holds up in snowy weather or rain.
So... due to pricing and scent, it's not a full score, but it's one of the best mascaras I've tried.
If you can afford it, it's definetely worth giving it a try, though I might change my mind after the next blizzard :p

This works as a pretty lovely mascara for me actually, but only once I learned how to use it - THE TRICK IS TO REMOVE EXCESS FROM THE BRUSH. If you use it without removing the excess you will probably get a clumpy mess!
What I do is take out the brush, then wipe the brush on the edge of the tube several times, going all around the brush and removing as much product as possible from the brush. Once I've done this all I have to do is swipe the lashes with the mascara a few times and I get gorgeous long thick lashes. Sometimes I have to "pinch away" a few clumps, but the end result is still beautiful. Truly a "false lashes" effect. <-- at least this method works for me.
What I do wonder is whether my method is hygienic since a lot of product (more than what is normal for mascara?) ends up coming out of the tube and then being pushed back in? And the sales rep told me that a disadvantage of the mascara is that it dries up quickly... I've had it for about two months though and it still works fine.
So I give the mascara high points for the end result, but negative points for the price, which is high, and the packaging, which complicates application considerably. I will still buy again if I don't find a better one.

This is by far the best mascara ive ever used!!! Its dramatic, long lasting, adds volume AND lengthens! Its an all rounder. The only things i will point out is that if u over apply u will get a horrible clumpy effect. 1 coat is all u need. Also it can flake a little towards the end of the day, but its much to good of a product to mark it down on that! Its not waterproof, £23.50 and i will definitely repurchase!!

I heard fantastic reviews about this one for so long and after i saw it in the airport in switzerland, i knew i just had to try it. Being it is a YSL mascara, i had very big expectations for this one.

The first time i tried it, i instatnly hated it. It was a clumpy mess and sumdged all over my eyelsahes and under my brows. I had to wipe all of it off and just stop using it. I felt cheated and dissapointed because well, it was so raved about and so very expensive.

After a while, i decided to give it another shot. This time i decided to wipe the brush and pump it a few times to get all the excess mascara off it to decrease clumping. I applied it in slow, swift motions, careful to not smudge it all up. And it worked! My eyelashes were thick, black and lengthened up to my brows! I was so excited it finally worked.

PACKAGING- this mascara comes in the same packaging as the volume faux cils one but this one has the word shocking written on the side of it. The brush is good, i'm not the biggest fan of this kind of brush though. It was kind of soft and mushy and didn't distrubute the mascara in the best way,

FORMULA- It is not dry, for me it felt really wet but ki d of creamy at the same time. You need to be very careful while applying this as it can smudge because of the texture.

STAYING POWER- for me, this is more of a nighttime mascara so i wear it on special occasions. It stays all night and doesn't flake. It comes off very easily with my clinique make up remover.

PRICE- It was quite expensive since it is a Yves Saint Lauren mascara. But i really do agree that you get what you are paying for.

Overall, it is a good special occasion mascara. If you are looking for a quick, swipe on, on the go mascara though, this might not be for you.

The name speaks volumes!! This mascara is shocking - and not in a good way!!! It completely overloads the brush so you end up with huge clumps that not even an eyelash comb can sort!! So disappointed! When the SA put it on my eyes it was fab - I can only assume now that because she was using a disposable brush, there was far less mascara on the wand and thus no clumping. Either that or I have a dodgy bottle!! On the same day I also purchased the Shu Uemeru eyelash curler (beyond fantastic!!) and the Clinique eyelash primer (again amazing!!) - have spent the last few days trying to identify the culprit which made my lashes so bad!! Have just taken off my makeup again this morning as my lashes looked so awful, and reapplied using just the curlers and the primer with an old and fairly dry mascara....and voila - long beautiful lashes!! So I'm sorry YSL - love your Touche Eclait, but definitely will not be buying your mascara again!!
