PROS: Natural ingredients. Trusted brand. This does wonders for some.

CONS: The smell is horrid. My teens' acne was increased with this.

ALTERNATES:: My teens' acne did better with having Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer or Clean & Clear Acne Control Moisturizer for preventing flakes.

I like this stuff. I had been looking for a good moisturizer that didn't contain any bad chemicals, and that would also help with my occasional acne. I use pure tea tree oil all the time on my face and it really helps, so the main reason I bought this was because of the tea tree oil in it. This product feels really nice on my skin. It isn't greasy or sticky at all to me, and I'm usually pretty weird about what I put on my face. I got this from Ulta for about $17. I think it will last for at least six months. I would buy again.

Ladies and Gentlemen if you have problem skin such as ACNE or the usual breakouts this is for you!! I never review a product until I give thr product a fair chance. My skin has never looked better. I'm still in shock. I seriously have tried everything possible for my problem skin. It really looks amazing now. I have oily/combination skin. This balanced me out perfectly. I apply this product with a cotton pad and love love love it! Never ever going without it!

I really love this product! The entire time I used this moisturizer I did not have a single outbreak which says a lot because I have acne-prone skin. The small tub lasted about 3-4 months. As many have stated a drawback is in the fact that you have put your finger in the tub to get out the product but I think that is a small price to pay for something that works. Also, this moisturizer ran me for about $20 at Whole Foods...

I am on the fence with this product. I'll start with what my skin is like: I could literally count on one hand how many zits I had had in my life when I lived in the northwest. Makeup wasn't a necessity for me, but I wore it most of the time simply because I love it and also worked as an MA. Flash forward a few years. I'm nearly 25 and living in Phoenix. Between the poor air quality and pollution, poor tap water quality (which I wash my face with), the HEAT, and the stress of "being an adult", my skin took a 180 - luckily, I just know how to cover it up really well. Now, my skin always is much different. My pores are small, but the pores on my nose are always clogged and if I squeeze them white stuff always comes out. They aren't noticeable unless you're looking at them closely, or the occaisional super clogged pore or blackhead or zit is noticeable - sometimes all of the above are present. My forehead also has small pores, with the occasional dark clogged pore and/or zit. I'm beginning to get small blackheads and zits on my cheeks now, and my hairline is very prone to zits, white/black heads, and clogged pores. But lately, my chin and jawline has been the worst. My chin is an endless sea of small, clogged pores, much like my nose, with the occaisional blackhead or clogged pore present. On my jawline, I get big whiteheads (often raised), but small blackheads. Since moving to Arizona, I have even developed cystic acne, estimating about 15-20 cystic zits a year, that rarely surface to a white 'head' and are raised, red, and painful. Certain times of the year my skin is fine; other times it is a complete mess, like right now (and as I described above). It's unusual and frustrating. I don't like to use chemicals on my skin - especially my face, as it's so sensitive - so when my skin breaks out like this, I am always willing to give products like this a try. I will begin with what I like about this product: the refreshing tea tree oil scent (which tingles ever-so-slightly, but isn't uncomfortable), and the light texture. I was surprised at how easily it absorbed into my skin. I know tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and can help eith healing and preventing acne. With that said, onto it's cons. The first problem with this product is the packaging. It is aesthetically pleasing and cute, but functionally, the container it comes in is a disaster. It comes in a small, round, plastic (recyclable, which is a pro to the con) jar. This is a fail for a huge obvious reason - it is UNSANITARY, and particularly a risk for those who have sensitive or acne-prone skin - which is the target consumer for this product. The jar also poses a spilling hazard for clumsy people (such as myself), where once again, your product gets contaminated and isn't fit for use if it has been on the bathroom counter or floor. I could also see this bad boy taking a dive off of my bathroom counter with the lid not on (or cracking off in the process) and ending up all over the floor/counter/walls/sink etc. in the process.

I've been using this product about two weeks. First my skin got worse, which I figured was just it purging out chemicals, dirt, toxins, and who knows what else. Then, my skin began to clear up. My husband and I both noticed. After a few days, though, my acne was coming back, and with a vengeance. I can't remember if I hadn't been using the product as diligently, if it was purging MORE toxins out of my skin, or if my skin simply doesn't like it. It also seemed to be a bit drying on some spots of my skin, so I use it just once a day now rather than twice. I also found that by using it under makeup doesn't work very well either, because the product tends to "ball" up when foundation is applied over it - even powdered mineral foundations... Just another reason to use it once a day rather than two. I am frustrated that my skin is worse than it was before I started using this lotion about two weeks ago, but if they were just deep down in my skin and were going to surface eventually, I'd rather just get them out.... Same goes with toxins, chemicals, or any other nasty things that could be lurking beneath my skin. If this cream is purging the nasties out - like I hope and think it is - then this will be worth it and this product would make a wonderful night cream for the times of the year my skin decides to act up. On the other hand, if this is causing me to break out, this product will be a big disappointment on several different levels. I have decided to give it at least a month before giving up entirely. I want very much to like this product, and even more for it to clear my moody skin!

This was an alright moisturizer, but I like their Tea Tree Oil+Vitamin E cream better. I have acne-prone, combo skin that is dehydrated in most areas, while oily on the T-zone, so this wasn't too moisturizing for me. I don't like the packaging. I wish it came in a bottle, because I find that, especially for those of us with acne, it is really unsanitary to stick your hand in a jar, even though your hands should be washed prior to touching the face. The smell is a typical tea tree smell, which takes a while to get used to, but I've been using tea tree oil for a long time, so it doesn't phase me.

This may work with neutral-to-dry skin tones, but it did not do the job for me. I have very oily breakout prone skin and it felt greasy on my face. However, I didn't want to waste it so I tried it as an after-soak moisturizer on my feet and it worked like a charm! It makes them feel extremely soft and nourished.

I hate to rain on the parade, but I didn't like this moisturizer. I purchased it based on the glowing reviews and on the advice of a trusted friend, but I found it to be not quite right for my skin.

Upon application, the product was slightly tacky and it never felt like it fully absorbed. I felt a film on my face all day. I think this may be because I am used to using a moisturizer that is made mostly with plant oils (Evanhealy) and while this has a lot of tea tree, it isn't full of lovely carrier oils, which are great for my acne-prone, sensitive skin.

I would have dealt with the tackiness, but my skin tone actually got worse the week I was using this moisturizer. My skin was not purging nasty chemicals (I use Evanhealy moisturizer, rose water for toner, and a Camamu soap to cleanse, which are all very clean products.) I have one hard underground zit on my chin, which I don't usually get.

I know a lot of people love this stuff, but it wasn't for me.

ME: A little sensitive, oily but dehydrated, acne-prone...
LOTION: Lightweight cream with a clean smell. Comes in a jar and lasts 6-8 months
.
VERDICT!!!
- Great for acne! I started out by using it nightly and didn't get results...but the moment I started using it every time I wash my face (so twice a day), my acne completely cleared up!! Coincidence? I think not :)
- FYI: Tea tree oil is the natural version of benzoyl peroxide (the first line of offence recommended by dermatologists). I break out with benzoyl peroxide bc it's too strong and drying, but I never have this problem with tea tree oil. Hurray!
- Has willow bark extract (natural source of salicyclic acid), which helps with blackheads but won't eliminate them, so I exfoliate and apply 2% salicyclic acid gel on a weekly basis.
- Won't eliminate hyperpigmentation, you'll need something else for that :(
- Lightweight but still moisturizing. It has a creamy texture, so it feels like it sits on top of my skin when I first apply it (I use very little...just in case), but the feeling disappears quickly. Not as hydrating as it could be, so I pair it with my Youth Code serum.
- Packaging isn't so cool--I hate jars! I always wash my hands before dipping in. TIP: I use the back of my nail to scoop it up, bc it's under the nail that accumulates the most bacteria D:
- Ingredients: I'm no scientist, but it's always nice to see a short ingredient list.
.
THEREFORE...
---This lotion is fantastic for the poor acneic soul in search of a moisturizer that won't break them out! And yes, even if you're oily a good moisturizer is a must (powder is your best friend)!
.......BUT since I have hope for humanity, I'm still on the hunt for a lotion that is more hydrating, less creamy, with more hygienic packaging than this one, and if I find one, I will report back here ;)
.
***UPDATE:
---I started using the AcneFree benzoyl peroxide face wash (it was supposed to be gentle!!) and, boy did it dry my skin out! I got off it but sadly this derma e lotion is simply not moisturizing enough anymore. I am not using it anymore, since I found that an oil-cleansing + philosophy retinol cream is working better for me.
---NEW CONCLUSION: As much as I loved this lotion, derma-e is just not moisturizing alone, so I took two lippies off. Why two lippies? Because it calls itself a moisturizer and it's not moisturizing!! It will still be ok for non-dehydrated skin types and normal to oily skin types, but if it's not good for everyone, I'm not going to make a stronger recommendation :(

I love this moisturizer!! I've never encountered a Derma E product that I haven't loved! My skin is combo, sensitive, and very acne prone, this is lightly moisturizing and the tea tree oil is a really nice way to help the acne without super harsh chemicals. My only complaint is that this moisturizer doesn't wear well under makeup on it's own. It's a bit sticky and it tends to kind of roll and shed when you put makeup on it, so I usually do a thin layer of another oil free moisturizer or primer on top.

I can't even begin to say how much I love this moisturizer! It's absolutely my HG, and I've tried EVERYTHING. I have EXTREMELY sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin and I've been hunting for a good moisturizer for years now, but I didn't want to pay $40+ for it. This moisturizer is about $20 at Whole Foods, and I've been using it both morning (under Clarins' sunscreen) and night without problem. The tea tree oil and other ingredients in it seem to actually help keep my breakouts down, and I don't get as oily as I do with other moisturizers (even the ones for oily skin.) I don't mind the jar, since I always have clean hands when I use the product and I'm the only one who uses it. The only thing I would warn anyone about first is a) it smells VERY strongly of tea tree oil, but that fades quickly and b) it feels slightly sticky when you first put it on, but again that fades and it absorbs into your skin within a minute or so. I will absolutely re-purchase this, and highly recommend it for anyone with problematic, oily, sensitive, acne-prone skin like mine.

UPDATE: just got a new jar of product, with derma-e's new packaging, and it leaves your skin WAY less tacky. I like the new texture much better. Also, after several months of using the cream, my acne is better than it was when I had ALL the clogged pores, but it is definitely not acne free. I am still getting big cysts

UPDATE 2: My face is like an oil slick with this moisturizer. Using toner before-hand helps, but my face is just DROWnING in oil. Even as a teenager, I never had such an oily face. Right now, my face is broken out in BIG cysts and looks generally awful. This is not working for me.

UPDATE 3: because I hate throwing out product, I started mixing in a little squirt of jojoba oil, and that's tamed the oiliness problem. I might even end up repurchasing if this custom blend works for me.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: So my poor face is just looking awful. I have acne ALL over the place and my pores are seriously clogged. After several months of using a very heavy moisturizer that didn't agree with my skin (Boots!), I switched to this one about two months ago. I've definitely seen a difference in the number of new clogged pores, and my skin is looking a bit clearer. Whether this is the result of the moisturizer or the Retin-A I've started using 3x a week, I'm not sure. What I don't like: it isn't heavy enough to prevent my skin from producing a fair amount of oil by the end of the day. I added a salicylic acid toner to my regimen and that did help in reducing the oil production. I do feel like this product is helping to clear up my face... or at least isn't adding to the problem.

THIS. MOISTURIZER. IS. MY. HERO.
I've always been absolutely terrified of the idea of putting lotion on my face. I've always had problematic, oily, acne-prone skin that I would purposefully try to keep as dry as possible thinking that it would get rid of the acne.
That was dumb.
Keeping my face dry meant more oil production, which meant more pimples, and ultimately more scars. Yikes.
I purchased this lotion a couple of months ago in hopes that it would be light enough for my oily skin and help me balance oil production. Well, it definitely does that, and I couldn't be happier.
It's so light, non-sticky, non-greasy, refreshing (the tea tree oil and fragrance are just wonderful), and keeps my skin hydrated and balanced. It never feels greasy, never feels like it's too much. Plus, it's mostly natural and totally silicone-free.
This lotion has kept my face from breaking out, and for that, I love it. It's a teensy bit costly, but you get so much product for the price, especially if you use little bits every day like me. I put some on a q-tip to ration myself and keep the jar sanitary. Speaking of the jar, it's sturdy, and is packaged with a thing to cover the product in addition to the lid.
I love Derma E. I've been using this lotion and their Problem Skin Cleanser, Very Clear Cleansing Scrub, and scar gel in conjunction for a while now, and my skin is looking fantastic as compared to the mess it was in before. Like I mentioned in my review for the scar gel, I need to write Derma E a thank-you letter. Their products have proved to be perfect for my skin type, affordable, and extremely effective. I <3 Derma E.
