This is a great alternative to Naked 1, and much more flattering, in my opinion. I love nude shades of different finishes-particularly shimmers and mattes-but steer clear of glittery shades with excess fallout. To me, that is where Naked 1 fell short-- while the colors are gorgeous, they can have a muddy look and fallout galore. Not so flattering if you are going for a more natural, sophisticated look. I decided to return Naked 1 to Sephora, and picked up Stila's In The Light palette instead. I was impressed with the buttery consistency, pigmentation, and lack of excess fallout. All shades are wearable and buildable, and last all day with primer. An added bonus is that there are four very wearable matte shades mixed in with shimmery shadows, and a wonderful pencil liner (dark brown), so this is one very versatile palette.
Shades include: 3 shimmers--Bubbly (gold/champagne), Kitten (champagne), and Sunset (copper); 4 mattes--Bare (light cream), Bliss (beige/light brown), Sandstone (brown), and Ebony (black); 3 glittery (but wearable)--Gilded Gold, Luster (taupe), and Night Sky (blue/silver).
I typically use use lighter shades on the lids, and a darker shimmer or glitter shade on the crease. I line my upper eyelid with either the brown or black matte, and a brown or black pencil liner on my lower eyelid. I have brown eyes, but this would look great on anyone- particularly brown or blue eyed people, I would think. Stila has some wonderful shadows, and In The Light does not disappoint. I can use this for day or night, and look much more polished and glam than I do with some other shadow brands. If Naked 1 is just not your thing for any of the reasons I mentioned, but you still want a flattering neutral toned eyeshadow palette, you will love Stila's In The Light.

This was my first ever Stila product. i bought it because i really wanted the Kitten eyeshadow after seeing so many people rave about and use it so i thought why not get the palette because the other colors looked just as amazing. i'm so glad i bought this palette because it has such a beautiful range of shadows and so many looks can be created using it. you could create a simple day time look or smoke it out using the darker colours for a more dramatic night time look. the shadows are an amazing buttery formula and they blend perfectly. the only reason i wouldn't repurchase this palette is because they're are so many other palette out there that i would love to try. all in all this is a beautiful palette and i fully recommend it to everyone.

This is a really cute product and I appreciate Stila as a brand, but I lost this in San Francisco and won't bother to repurchase. To be fair, my eyelids aren't that big so I can't do a lot with my makeup. I sometimes use one color for my lids and a darker color for my crease, but the majority of the time, I like to go more natural and choose only to use one color. I am mostly looking for eyeshadows that can really pop on their own. I tend to gravitate torwards natural colors such as nudes, coppers, bronzes, and taupes. I like some shimmer, but I'm not a fan of very glittery shadows.
Honestly, I only really liked two of the colors: sunset and sandstone. I used sunset (a beautiful shimmery copper) alone on my lids and sandstone (dark matte brown) as an eyebrow filler, which worked perfectly and wouldn't budge unless I washed my face with a strong makeup cleanser.
Here are my opinions on the other colors:
1. bare - didn't show up on my light skin at all
2. kitten - pretty, but a little too light to use on its own (worked better as a highlighter for inner lids)
3. bliss - a nice, natural matte nude, which I liked to use during the day
4. champagne - very pretty but too glittery and iridescent on my skin tone
5. gilded gold - decent, but rarely used
6. luster - too dark on its own and made me look like I was wearing stripper makeup, but okay as a crease shadow
7. night sky - a decent blue-gray shadow, but rarely used
8. ebony - useless as I don't use black eyeshadow ever
I have to say, I LOVED damsel, the eyeliner that came with the package. It's the perfect dark brown eyeliner and I wore it everyday in a row until I ran out! I have yet to find another brown eyeliner as pigmented and smooth as this. I really wish they sold it separately because I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Overall, this was a cute palette and I'm sure most of the colors would work on other girls who can do more with eyeshadows, but for me, most of them didn't stand out and t just wasn't worth the $39 price tag.

I've had the Stila in the lights palette for about a year now and honestly I really only use two things from it on the regular - the highlight color "Bare" and the eyeliner. I use Urban Decay eye shadow primer and the colors seem to stay on for me. The one thing I absolutely hate about this palette is there is SOOO much fallout. The colors "Night sky," "Luster," and "Gilded Gold" don't even give you ANY color. They just give you a bunch of fall out. Now, "Sunset," "Kitten," and "Champagne" are alright. I get loads of fallout but I at least get color. To use those I just put on eye shadow before foundation and concealer. The color "Bliss" doesn't even show up on my eyes. (I have fair skin.) And I am somewhat pleased with the matte colors "Sandstone" and "Ebony." However they are not as pigmented as I would prefer. I really like the color "Bliss" because I have fair skin and it is hard to find a highlight color that will actually show up on my skin. I also really like the eyeliner because its the perfect consistency and I never tried a brown eyeliner before I got this palette and it turned out that I really liked it. This product is a decent price for what you get, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I was definitely not looking for yet another palette when I picked this up. I was actually talked into it due to the fact it contains a $40.00 eyeliner with it. The eyeliner for starters was a dream, completely in love with it and the only sad part is that it is so expensive and doesnt last long enough due to my everyday use.
The eyeshadows themselves are extremely pigmented and last all day/night on my eyes. They do not crease and I get compliments on the colors themselves. I find the eye shadows are very similar to MAC and I love that the case contains everything I would use for daytime or night time use. I have dark brown eyes and olive skin and the colors are a great addition.
Definitely a re-buy or a buy every color I can!

This stuff is legit! No seriously, I am loving this more than my urban decay naked palette. I know that palette gets so much love and it deserves it. However, this stila palette is a freaking undiscovered hero.
In comparison to the urban decay naked palette you still have your matte colors along with a true MATTE black instead of a shimmery black in the naked palette. I find that I prefer the lighter shimmer colors in this palette as my go-to all over lid colors vs. the ones in UD because they're not frosty. There's even a super wearable blue/gray that shows up in both palettes. The texture is so lovely - like butter, so nice.
I really cannot believe I waited this long to check out this stila item. Honestly I've never been interested in stila but I was aching for a new eyeshadow palette and the reviews convinced me otherwise. Love this product!

I have been very lucky with Stila eye shadows. I've got 6 or 7 singles that I really like. Recently, I bought the In the Garden palette and was so delighted with it - the colours themselves, the pigmentation, the "glow" of the pearl shadows and the smoothness of the matte ones - that when Shoppers Drug Mart had another bonus points redemption day, I "bought" this palette with my points. It is 50 dollars in Canada, but basically, I got it for "free" and just had to pay the sales tax on it. Pretty good deal. Even at full price, this palette is a great value - 10 decent sized shadows AND a first rate twist up pencil liner (this one is a deep grey-brown shade called Damsel; I love it because it's lacking all traces of red, which don't look great on me). Like all the palettes, there is a really useful instruction/suggestion booklet with 6 different eye looks to try and all are very nice.
I've used this palette for a couple of days, playing with different combos - some from the booklet and some of my own. Many of the shadows also work really well as smokey, sultry looking liners too and I've even used them wet with no damage to the product.
Totally "winner" palette and this one even includes a mirror (though the lid won't stay open for you to use it unless you prop it against something)

Stila's In The Light palette was my first larger palette purchase. I wanted a nice neutral palette and was eyeing this, as well as the UD Naked palettes. I'm glad I ended up purchasing this one. I've had mine for about a year now....I still love it and use it everyday!
You get 10 shadows in this palette. Six of them are shimmery (but not overly so) and four are matte. I like this ratio, as I think it gives you lots of options for either a polished, simple eye look, or one that is more dramatic. You also get en eyeliner, which is a matte brown.
Bare, which is a matte ivory shade, is perfect for highlighting under the brow. Bubbly (pale shimmery gold, and the popular Kitten (shimmery pink nude) are perfect all over lid colors. Gilded Gold (brown with gold shimmer), Luster (dark grey with gold shimmer), and Sandstone (matte brown) are my favorite shades. I like to pair these with either Bubbly or Kitten and I get a perfect neutral eye that is still pretty but not too dramatic for the natural daytime look I prefer on myself. Sunset (shimmery copper), Night Sky (blue-toned slate with shimmer) and Ebony (matte black) are my go to shades for more dramatic night looks, but I can still incorporate them into my day look. The smudge stick is also very useful! The shade is Damsel, and it's a dark matte brown. I use this eyeliner just about everyday, smudged on my lash line.
I know a few reviewers have mentioned that the eye shadows aren't the best quality, or that they are chalky with a lot of fall out. I can see why some people would think this, but I still think these shadows are really good. When swatched on my arm, the shadows do come off as slightly chalky and not very pigmented. However, once applied with a brush on my lid (with primer), I think the pigmentation is great and the shadows blend beautifully. I do experience some fall out when I pick up shadow on my brush, but it isn't enough for me to lower my rating for the product. Lasting power is quite good for me. I use the shadows with NARS primer or UDPP and these usually last on me all day with little creasing or fading. I should note that I have very oily, hooded lids, so this staying power is pretty impressive to me. The smudge stick lasts all day for me as well. I smudge the color onto my lash line with a smudging brush. It doesn't smudge and has minimal fading.
Yes, the packing could be better. I've had my palette for about a year now, and it looks a little beat up. The print on it is fading, and there are small dent here and there. The mirror is still intact, and so are the compartments that hold the shadows/eye liner. When I experience fall out off of my brush, it often lands on spaces between the shadows, and this can make the palette look "dirty." Easy fix, I just wipe it clean. Also, the eye liner can be hard to get out of its compartment. A pull-ribbon or something similar would have been nice, but not a big deal.
I think I paid $38 for this palette. This felt pricey at first, but I've truly gotten my money's worth in just the year I've had it. I use every shade in this palette, some every single day. I also use the smudge stick every day. This was such a practical purchase for me, and if anything were to happen to this palette I would definitely repurchase.

This is an amazing palette. It has great neutrals in it. Whenever I wear makeup I reach for it. I was debating between this and one of the naked palettes. This one caught my eye in price and color. I bought it and couldn't wait to play with it. It lasts all day with or without a primer. It is great for day and night. The palette is quite sturdy and small enough for travel. It comes with a mirror making it great for on the go! I love this and recommend it for anyone.

This palette is pretty good! I picked it up the other day mostly out of curiosity because I've never had any Stila eyeshadow, and was pleasantly surprised with the nice quality! I'd say that they are more creamy than Urban Decay shadow. For the price point, I'd say it was a pretty good deal! it was $37 for 10 shadows, which is pretty dang good in my opinion. That comes out around $3.70 per shadow not to mention you get a really nice pigmented eyeliner along with it, in a shade called Damsel. I honestly think that this is creamy and nice, but i wish it would have come in pencil form instead of retractable :( It breaks very easily! But it isn't crumbly or dry so I guess thats good. I have Naked one, Naked 2, Lorac Pro, Too Faced Natural Eye, and various other neutral palettes so I know when I see quality, and this is it! I like this palette so much I might even buy the matte one for fall! :)
