I will NEVER buy this product again. It made my hair so frizzy it looked like a bad Halloween wig! I tried it multiple times, thinking I must have done something wrong, or put too much on, or something, but it came out the same awful way each time. I thought about giving this away but I wouldn't inflict this on my worst enemy. I'm astonished by the other reviews that it works for anyone.
Oh, and it does have a sweet, candy smell, but perhaps some people like it. To me it smells cheap in the jar, but I didn't notice it on.
This is one of the very few times I have ever thrown away a full jar of a product.

Best thing I have ever used. I have long, 3b curly hair (ringlets with the diameter of a Sharpie marker) that I always wear natural in the humid Florida climate. My hair has been a constant struggle as far as styling and moisture goes and this product addresses both issues. I could never bring myself to buy the Ouidad, Deva, or other salon products because they're so expensive and you have to use so much on curly hair!
While my hair is still wet but not quite dripping I apply this product from pretty much root to tip in about 4-5 sections since I have a lot of hair and don't want to miss any areas. I use the rake and shake Ouidad method pretty much. Also, don't be too shy with the product and after you've set your hair, don't touch it til it is dry.
When your hair dries it'll be mega hard and crunchy. Don't freak out! Just scrunch out the crunch and you'll be left with soft, shiny, defined curls with volume (if you scrunch properly). Shrinkage is minimal and some reviews say it pulls curls out. Using this gives me the longest hair (while dry) that I've ever had. I did have a few curls go kinda straight but just wet them and wrap them around your finger. They might have been heat damaged from long ago. If you want anything fro like or super big, super curly hair this might not give you the look you're going for.
Another thing I love is that this one product is does it all. I didn't even use leave in conditioner like I normally do before putting styling products in and I had my first good natural hair day.
Lastly, the price is very reasonable. I got it for $6.14 at iherb.com but you can buy it at Whole Foods for $8 and you get 15 oz of product. Not bad at all.
I think this might be my first product review. THAT is how much I am in love with this product. I just know how frustrating it is to have curly hair and waste time and money on a bunch of products that don't really work out.

I've been looking for a cheaper alternative to KCCC for a while now. I thought that I was okay with my concoction of EcoStyler and Shea Moisture products. Then I went to whole foods to try this. I AM SO HAPPY I COULD SQUEAL!! My curls look just as good, if not better as they do with the crazy expensive KCCC. Used properly and sparingly, I get insane definition with almost no crunch. For whatever reason, someone decided that natural hair stylers need to smell like a bakery or something. I love the clean, sophisticated scent of this product. I will absolutely be repurchasing!!

I have found the PERFECT product!!!! after 6 years of searching I have finally found the one that literally has it all!! so here is the list!! I never give products reviews but I want everyone to know about this awesome, little known product
~ organic product with no sulfates!!
~ can find it at any target
~ cheap ($7.99) compared to the other leading $20 products
~ it comes with enough to last for nearly a YEAR!!
~ has the holding power of mousse, but soft like creme
~ I live in galveston, which is on the beach and is THE most humid place ever so if I say that it keeps away frizz from humidity you know for a fact that it does
~ gives my 2c wavy hair defined, nice "beachy" waves
~ gives lots of pretty shine
~ i love the texture of the creme, it goes on nicely and you can put quite a bit in without overdoing it
~ like i said I put quite a bit in so that it will hold all day, so it dries just a little bit crunchy at first, but if you scrunch with a hand towel it goes away instantly into soft waves
~ touchable and very soft!!
~ I know the girl before me said that the smell was awful but I am absolutely addicted to it! it smells like fruit!! when you put it in your hair it isn't overpowering like some of the brands, and when it dries it leaves a nice subtle fruity smell that you get when you move your hair. everyone always compliments me on how lovely I smell and want to know the perfume!! :)
~ The only problem that I have with it is the packaging which is why i gave that a 4...it comes with a screw off top that doesn't have a seal on it :/ which means that people can stick their hands in it at the store and then put it back. which they had a seal on it but oh well...i will still be a faithful purchaser for as long as they make the product!!
I will be going to target to purchase the entire line of products ASAP!! if you were like me and searching for the perfect product PLEASE give this a try!! it is a life savor!!!
Hope i helped!! :)

This product is VERY similar to Kinky Curly Curling Custard in appearance and texture, and I have been using both this and KCCC for a couple of months now (for reference, my hair is type 3b/3c). The formula for Royal Curl is different: it dries stiffer and stickier than KCCC does, and it has a very strong, sweet, candy-like smell: seriously, this stuff smells like the Jolly Rancher factory exploded on your head, and even though the scent fades as the day goes on you can still smell it hours later. It's not a ~bad~ smell, it's just strong. It took longer to dry than KCCC, but did give my curls a bit more movement. It is also less expensive than KCCC, and even though I bought my tub at Whole Foods at the same time I bought my first tub of KCCC, Queen Helene products are easier for me to find than Kinky Curly's are. I prefer KCCC, but this would be a good alternate if you can't find it or want something more economical.
