this is just O.K. for me, nothing special, can leave my hair a little dry and i need a diff conditioner, the matching one to this is horrible and leaves my hair looking like straw. wont repurchase as there is much better products out there.

i alternate between this shampoo the moisture recovery, and the kpak color therapy (: these shampoos rinse so clean and leave my hair tangle free thats what makes me the happiest with joicos shampoos. i love the moisture shampoo sent the most but this one is a close second (: also inbetween my last touch up my hair color hardly faded (its really sunny in Cali right now so i was expecting more fade) im very impressed with joico as i always am. they are amazing and save my hair everyday

This shampoo was my first foray into professional hair products in quite some time, because I am in cosmetology school I can shop at the professional beauty supply houses and yes, I get really good prices on product.
Anyway, after getting my hair permanently colored with foils & a semi permanent glaze on top, I knew I had to get a top-notch shampoo, especially to retain the semi-permanent color.
Firstly, you really do not have to use much of the shampoo, just a quarter sized & it lathers nicely.
Secondly, one day I opted to not condition my hair one day because I needed a less soft texture for a style I was going to wear & even still, my hair was tangle free & smooth, which is rare from shampoo alone on colored hair.
Lastly, it really has helped me retain my color. Semi-permanent can go from 5-15 days or so without completely rinsing out & it lasted more like twenty without much fading, though I did opt to recolor around 20 days.
So, top notch product & definitely worth the price regardless where you get it.

I've been looking for a shampoo that is gentle yet effective for my colored, slightly dry hair. I was using Fekkai and Redken shampoos but hated how they weigh down my hair and make my roots greasy within just one day of washing. I decided to give this one a try and I surprisingly love it! It creates a very fine and milky lather and just makes my hair feel...CLEAN. It is also very gentle and does not strip my hair of moisture. The smell is nice - kind of like bananas, but it doesn't linger. I can't speak to its ability to lock in color because I haven't really noticed that.
Overall, a very nice basic shampoo that does its job.

This is my new favorite shampoo, although Ive been usig it for about a month. Ive since gone from blonde to brunette so needed something ot keep my brow from fading orangey/brassey as it tends to do. This has stopped it in it's tracks and kept me from needing to color as often. No it doesnt lather immensely but people are often mislead by that - a product doesnt have to become extremely soapy to be effective! Just work it in well and it will do it's job

Despite the negative reviews, I rate this product highly. Having jet black hair, I had it coloured a reddish/brown. The sort of red tint you can see without the sun. I noticed less colour wash out on first use. Used with the conditioner, this is a great combination.
Having oily hair, I have to wash at least every two days (unless I use a dry shampoo to leave it for another day) and the conditioner is light enough that it does not leave a residue. Overall, I'm rather impressed with this product.

I am surprised by all the bad reviews for this, It works great for me. I had a semi-perm darker color put in my hair several weeks ago, and bought this to try and keep it from fading. At first I felt like it didnt lather enough for me, but I discovered if I rub it between my hands then massage it vigorously into my scalp, it lathers perfectly. This smells good too. I ran out of this about a week ago, and had to use regular shampoo for several days..wow did my color fade fast, so I know this works to prolong color, for me at least. I am very picky about shampoo/conditioner, and rarely repurchase the same one twice(always looking for the perfect one!) Well I think the search is over, will def. repurchase this (along with the conditoner) again and again!

*Every* single time I go to Trade Secret to buy my usual color-extending shampoo, the sales lady pushes the Joico. "It's cheaper, works just as well, blah blah blah." It makes me wonder if they get kick-backs for selling/recommending it. Well, I finally took the plunge so I could say I tried it. It's ok, nothing special. Fine shampoo. I don't think it did anything to extend my color. After a while, I started to dislike the scent--it was very sweet. I won't buy it again. But the next time the saleslady bothers me, I can tell her I tried it and to leave me alone! :)

I was surprised and dissapointed that this shampoo didn't do anything to protect or prolong my haircolor. My dark hair started fading almost immediately. It dried out the ends of my hair, as well, leaving the roots greasy. It also was hard to rinse out and made my scalp itch. All in all, not a good product for me.
I started using John Freida's brunette color mask (I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but it's the goo that re-deposits shine and color in your hair) and it seems to be helping, but I have to quit using this stuff immediately. Can't wait for my Alfaparf to come in!

I'm usually a big fan of everything Joico, so I was surprised at how disappointing this shampoo turned out to be. I had my hair colored, used this shampoo and conditioner, and I swear within two weeks my color had faded drastically. I'd never experienced that with any shampoo before. How sad!

I like this shampoo as a general product...but I wouldn't make an effort to purchase this at any cost. The fragrance is nice and the shampoo is definitely moisturizing, but other than that, it's not a huge deal -- just like any other shampoo. I didn't notice if it made my color last longer, but I guess it did make my hair feel a bit more manageable. I use this with the matching conditioner (because shampoo and conditioner are married in my book, and you can't use one without the other).

I have tried Biolage, Paul Mitchell, CHI, Bed Head, etc.
I was looking for a different shampoo since the above did a good job at their time, but I pretty much wanted something new with a good smell. A hair lady recommended this shampoo along with the intensive care conditioner.
I have been using this for 2 days. So far, I love the smell and leaves my hair feeling soft and lightweight.
We'll see if I can see a difference in a month. So far, it looks good.
Update: I went back to Biolage. After a month of using Joico, I kind of started itching more on my head. And it also feels like you didn't wash your hair well after using this shampoo. I really wanted to like this product since the smell is good.

I have tried ALL KINDS of shampoo and conditioner.
I have thick, color-treated hair, and I do not use anything less than the professional stuff for my hair. This joico shampoo makes these little tiny bubbles when you wash your hair. I wouldn't say it brings out the most clean feeling, but it does a remarkable job of moisturizing, that is for sure. Try it with the same conditioner!

I purchased this shampoo and its conditioner at an authorized retailer (trade secret). The smell is pleasant and it did keep my colored hair looking great and my color didn't seem to fade as fast as it has in the past. However I have an oily scalp and this didn't seem to work too great at cleaning my scalp. After I shampooed my scalp still felt greasy and so I felt like I had to use a lot of shampoo to try to get my scalp clean. And after my hair was washed, it still felt like I still had a lot of product build up. It did keep the ends of my hair very moisturized though. I think this product is great for people who do not have oily hair but it didn't work out for me, unfortanatley. I do like the conditioner though.

I've been using this shampoo, together with the conditioner, for about a week and I am very happy with the results. I have fine hair and an oily scalp; my hair is both colored and highlighted, and this shampoo leaves my hair with lots of volume and shine. It doesn't lather very much, but it's not a problem; I use a small amount, rub it between my hands to spread it, and then concentrate mainly on washing my scalp. As for the scent - it's neither great nor awful but I don't buy shampoos for their scent, so as long as it doesn't linger (and this doesn't), who cares?

I like this shampoo. Cleans well enough, scent doesn't stick with me all day (which I like), doesn't leave my hair feeling stripped when I rinse it out. And, most importantly, I definitely feel it's helped with color retention, which is the main reason why I bought it. I tend to clarify and use a deep conditioning treatment once a week, though, so if this tends to dry hair out or leave build up I wouldn't know. Overall, I'm happy, but I bought a liter and I doubt I'll repurchase when it's gone, just because I'm already starting to get bored with it even though my hair looks pretty good. So the product works, but I'm not raving about it. UPDATE 6/16/05: Giving this a few more lippies and decided I would actually repurchase it. I've started liking it a lot more now that I've stopped using the conditioner from this line. My hair feels very soft and conditioned after rinsing this out, and has a lot of bounce. And the color retention is nothing to sneeze at! A very nice, gentle yet effective shampoo. I'm not clarifying or doing a deep conditioning treatment anymore, either, since I've pretty much stopped using anything that would cause build-up.
