I'm also baffled by the negative reviews. I'm certainly not reminded of urinal cakes either-- not that I go around sniffing them, mind you. I've gone back and forth with EdCC for awhile now. A few years back it seemed too proper-ish for me. Maybe it's due to getting older, but I find it so elegant and pretty without being stuffy. It's a grown-up perfume but not something my 68-year-old mother would wear.
I love its lasting power, though it takes a bit for the scent to settle into my skin. Once I get past that, I'm in love. It's a touch sweet but not sickening; and I love it despite being a girl who does NOT like sweet. Some detect a grassy note but I don't. It's got a blend of floral, skin and soapiness, and somehow it all balances out. It's a lovely feminine scent that doesn't hit people over the head. My husband loves it on me, and he's a guy who wouldn't care if I never wore MU or shaved my pits again. :)
It's pricey for sure, but often there's cheaper prices on eBay. And given its concentration a bottle will last forever. I love having a scent that isn't easily available in every department store but also isn't impossible to find.

As I sit here sniffing this glorious scent I am amazed at the some of the reviews, are we smelling the same product?
I get no soapiness and certainly no urinal cakes!
I've been sampling many fragrances lately and this one is just a beautiful stand out. Not sweet at all, thankfully! It is the first tea scent I've tried and I'll have to try more if they are anything like this. I don't usually like citrus but this one is so well constructed with the tea and citrus blending together seamlessly and then the hint of floral comes through. There stands the camellia behind them and the three seem to do a dance together.
Sillage is good but wouldn't put anyone off, and so far my scent eating skin hasn't made this one disappear. Definitely worth a bottle!

i just wanted to comment on the review below -- it is actually mpg (or l'artisan, well, jean laporte anyway) -- who is the ground-breaking perfumer. he was the *first* of the niche-perfumers who moved away from the usual perfumery, and without him and his perfumes serge lutens and parfumery generale etc would probably not exist.

From first spritz I loved this MpG. EdCC is a lovely, sweet and feminine scent. . It's a perfect summer scent for daytime. Different as there are gorgeous tea notes and exotic fruits. It's bright and etheral. Camelias are gorgeously fresh and albeit a little soapy smelling --- is a lot different from the normal fruity scents out there. Unique and utterly feminine --- destined to be a classic for sure.

I fell in love with this a few years ago. I kept the sample in my maybe box, but at full price I could never get myself to justify it. Once I almost traded for it, but the swap fell through. Finally, b-glowing had a great MPG sale. I caved in (it was still expensive) and then, wierdly, once I had it, I didn't find myself wanting to wear it. It sat on my shelf for almost a year. Recently I started going through a floral/citrus thing. Almost by chance I noticed the beautiful CC bottle, tried it again, and... LOVE! It opens with a very light, pretty citrus spread over very green (almost piney) notes, green tea accord, and a warm flowery base. The green tea isn't the real green tea, it's the agreed upon accord. But it's still very nice. Then a light floral I've smelled in camelia tea blooms. After a good drydown, the scent holds pretty much to an equal mix of green notes, tea accord, and camelia, but there's a light citric touch that remains. It's really pretty and surprisingly long lasting. I've found myself getting whiffs of the scent on clothing a few weeks later and loving it so much I wore the scent again. I don't get urinal cake. I can't see the odium - at it's worst, this may seem like an overly floral, slightly soapy scent. But I'd never find it offensive.

I can't believe that Maitre Parfumeur et Gandier released such a dischordant perfume. I'm not going to talk about urinal cake here cause i found it pathetic but i'm pretty sure that this is a highly synthetic perfume. When i read the notes on several sites i was expecting for a combination of exotic fruits with tea.I was very surprised of the inaccuracy of what i've read. The perfume starts with aacidic citrus blast (almost unbearable)and it follows with a random herb collection before the whole combosition surrenders to an intense musk.Although the perfume is overall very sharp i can somehow accept the herbal part.Thank god for samples

I had tried some Camellia shampoo a few months ago and was hoping to find a fragrance similiar to that. Well, Camellia Chinois doesn't smell like the shampoo but it is very pretty. I have tried the sample twice and it is very green when first applied but still very floral. The drydown is amazing. It is fresh, floral, and very pretty. It reminds me of MM Forbidden except not quite as complex. It would be great for spring/summer. I will enjoy my sample but probably wouldn't buy a full bottle because I own Forbidden.

A swimming pool into which a liberal number camelia scented soap bars have been tossed. And maybe a few pine trees surrounding the pool. That is my primary impression of Eau de Camelia Chinois. I know...it doesn't come off as an exactly resounding endorsement, but I must say that I can see this fragrance having the potential to be rather beautiful on some people. However, I can't see how this would not be perceived as "soapy", so if you're soap phobic (and I confess to suffering from that affliction myself), this is one to approach with caution. The lightly chlorinated pool association may be something unique to how it combines with my skin chemistry and the faint scent of pine is actually quite appealing. Just sample first.

Camelia Chinois is not a terribly interesting scent. As one who is not a fan of soapy notes, this is certainly not my cup of tea. And as it dries down, it reveals a bitter tea note, which combined with the soapy backdrop, I find a bit unpleasant.

Hrmm...lets just say, there might be some truth to those "urinal cake" comments. This smells disturbingingly like a number of overly floral, overly perfumed bathroom sanitizers, as well as chlorine.

This has to be one of the most gorgeous scents i've ever smelled,it takes my breath away. I want to say its a very complex fragrance due to the composition of notes, yet its easy to fall in love with. Camelia is fresh and crisp and it enlivens the senses, I find my self very addicted to it. Men and women alike compliment me on the scent and wonder what it is that i'm wearing because it's so original. Believe it or not i like to pair this with Strawberries and Champagne body cream and it smells absolutely delicious almost effervescent. I know this perfume hasn't gotten many good reviews but my sense of smell is unbelievable and i have to say this fragrance in no way shape or form smells remotely like any of the other negative reviews that were given. Camelia de Chinois deserves a try from everyone to make up there own mind and tastes and i think if more people were to try this fragrance there would be alot of reviews in favor of this jewel of a perfume. Give it a shot and make your own conclusion, just don't snub it based on negative reviews.

Camelia Chinois is one step away from smelling like a urinal cake. Extreme heavy chemical smell, there is no flower that smells like this in nature, and if there was, I'd gladly pour weed killer on it and celebrate. Both soft green and soapy almost aquatic notes are in there, but it's amped up to the nth degree (especially the soft green), combining with the chemical sharpness of the floral and whew, the mixture is the smell of a cheap Spring Rain air freshener held up right up to your skin and dispensed for 10 seconds. Lasting power is forever.

This has a strong scent of tea on my skin. It's very crisp and sharp to my nose. I like the scent when I feel especially tired after a late-night sleep.

I received a sample of this. Very soothing, soft, clean. But I don't think I'd buy this one, just because it's not special enough, in my opinion.

I was so impressed by the opening of Eau de Camelia Chinois: bright, big, like a white floral should be (even though, as many have already pointed out, camelias have no scent). It is also a floral element that one detects in fine green or oolong teas and therefore the floral and vegetal elements have a nice balance in the fragrance's opening stages. I admit to enjoying EdCC's soapiness, too. What prevents me from seeking out a decant right at this moment is that awful dry down: traces of bitter, oversteeped tea, sandalwood and the fir note I suppose. It might be a powerful combination, but these notes weakly toot their horns when the fragrance clearly has run out of steam, and the result on my skin is Pine Sol cologne.

Camelia Chinois is my favorite kind of "clean". It's not soapy (like Gendarme) but has a soap-like feeling being so very fresh, green and floral but in a subtle way. I find this to be very feminine with some fruit note to sweeten it up a bit, and overall it's such a lovely, delicate fragrance, perhaps fit for a summer bride, especially for an outdoor wedding.

On me this smelled like a very nasty hospital antiseptic cleaner of some kind. Awful stuff! I applied some to my wrist right before dinner to test it, and actually had to scrub it off so I could eat -- it was making me nauseous.

Just got a sample and I think it smells just like Calyx from Prescriptives. Smells very green if that makes any sense. It doesn't seem to last too long either.

A lot of name for a light little scent. Actually I don't know how MPG managed to squeeze any fragrance at all from camellias.
I have two big camellia shrubs at my house in Alabama and I never smell a thing when they bloom in Jan. Maybe chinese (chinois)camellias have more to them than do our domestics! Kinda soft, green and nice but not for the price.
