I like this lipstick but I don't love it. The colour payoff is great - nice, bright cherry red, great for a night out. It doesn't feel heavy on your lips - I hate when it FEELS like you are wearing lipstick, this doesn't feel that way, BUT after a few hours of wear, I found this lipstick to be quite drying. As other reviewers have said, this has some staying power. It didn't come off on my cup, but I did notice that it faded gradually as the day wore on. Overall, a nice lipstick, but there are better red lippies out there!

I like this lipstick alot. I picked it up because I saw that Covergirls makeup artist Pat Mcgrath had used this shade on 42 different models during a spring 2013 fashion show. I thought " hey, maybe finally the perfect universal drugstore red lipstick". I am very cheap so the normal $7+ price tag for this is a bit much but I wound up paying $3.50 with my rite aid card so it was worth it. This is a bright poppy red. Some describe it as a bright cherry red with slight blue undertones, and yes I would go with that, but to me poppy red describes it so much better because it has a certain warmth to it that alot of true blue based reds don't have. It does brighten my face up. This lipstick is creamy and applies beautifully. I put it on straight from the tube on bare lips and clean up the edges with a lipbrush, no liner needed. This lipstick seems to "dry" to a matte yet non-drying stain as the day wears on and does seem to turn to a more cherry red. I can honestly wear this with zero touchups if I want. The only downfall I can see is that it really, really stains. Even after I remove my makeup at night (with either coconut oil or vaseline and a few baby wipes) it leaves my lips very heavily tinted I basically have to scrub them raw to remove it all. Plus, I still find myself leaning torwards a more true red red shade like Wet n Wild matte $2 Stoplight Red) so while this still isn't my hg red *sigh* It's still beautiful. UPDATE 4/22/13- This IS my go to red lipstick(since it lasts All day). I wear it every day. Yes, EVERY single day- ALL day. It goes with everything from t -shirt and jeans ( my normal wear) to formal wear. Its not "perfect" but so far, its close enough. I have (last week) caved in and splurged and bought Russian Red from MAC to compare. Will do a review on Russian Red when it comes in.

I really love this red lipstick!!! It suits my skin tone!
It's not drying and also long lasting! Yes, it stains but i'm okay with that. It's hard to remove but somehow gives you a natural red-toned lips. (Like what happened to me! :">) The smell is tolerable since it fades in few seconds after you apply it. Also, the color is buildable, i can wear this everyday. With just one swipe then i'm ready to go. You can go either a natural looking red lips or really hot red lips. I tried this one because it's not expensive unlike other brands that also promise a good, long-lasting lipstick. I believe that this one's worth a try.

I'm in love with this color, I don't know if it's just bc it's December and I always wear red lipstick all month or what but WOW! I love it for all the reasons other people have given it less lippies - it STAINS and hardly needs retouched. To me, that's a perfect red. Plus it's very lightweight, not thick or gummy feeling. It doesn't bleed, and I don't wear lipliner! It's a very bright, noticeable, not for the faint of heart true red. I love it!

Hot is a cool cherry red lipstick. It definitely has pink undertones that make it quite vibrant on my semi-pigmented lips. It is non-drying and comfortable to wear making it well worth the price. It didn’t feather on me, even after 6 hours of wear. I have never had to wear a lip liner with this color. I’m interested to try other lipsticks in the line if they are all as good as this one.

This is a really pretty red, but this STAINS your lips and the outside of your mouth if your not careful.

IMO, While this is a very pretty color it is not worth the hassle of having to wipe your lips 2-3 times with a warm washcloth in order to get everything off.

This is the only reason why I will not buy this again.

I've been trying to find a lipstick that looks right on me for the longest time. Everything I've tried in the past looked terrible on me but this red really complements my skin tone. It's moisturizing and that's important. I was a little paranoid about smudging and it wearing off but all-in-all, I'm a fan.

I know it's taken a lot of searching, but I'm so glad to have found you. While your scent leaves a little to be desired, your true blue leaning color could not make me happier. Seriously though, I saw a swatch on temptalia and it was love at first sight. I ran out for it and the matching lip liner. Covergirl has always been my Do Not Buy brand, but this color is amazing. Under certain lights it's perfect vintage red, other others, it's bright blue blue red. The one downside is that it's not as long wearing as the super lustrous line from revlon, so it needs a touch up during the day to catch the feathering and some travel on the bottom lip when eating. Yes, that's with a liner. I still love it. Recently a coworker told me its her favorite shade on me and I have to agree. This is coming from women who wear red lipstick more often than not.

I absolutely ADORE these lipsticks! I have another color in Pink, and it's the perfect fushia color. anwyays, these lipsticks are DIVINE. They are the perfect color, matte yet moisturizing, long lasting power, and most importantly...PIGMENTED!! I adore these. I'm on my 4th tube and this is the best red ever. love love love.

I have finally found my perfect shade of red! I love the matte color! I love the moisturizing feeling too, my lips are always so dry in the summer. I am black and I have medium-dark skin and I tan very easily and it's still the perfect color. The only problem is that it lasts TOO long. My lips are stained. I wore it yesterday for the first time and I really didn't have to reapply much today so it's a good thing I was planning to wear it again today or I would have been very upset. I would recommend this to anyone but definitely with that warning. I guess I just need to apply some sort of base, like with red nail polish. Overall, this is the best lipstick I have ever purchased. And of course because it's Cover Girl, the price is always right...(at walmart) I give it 4.75 stars!

The colour is a beautiful, cherry red. Very long-lasting. However something about this looks off on me, and I don't particularly like the formula... The colour is bright but not rich, the formula is silky and long-lasting but flat/thin, not creamy. It's simply personal preference. This lasted through a meal and does not bleed.

I really liked this lipstick. I think it's one of those colors that works well with every skin tone. I really wanted to try red lips and this really sold me, I'd been afraid that it would look tacky or gaudy and it looked great. It can be dressed up depending on the outfit and dressed down. I wear it when I want to add a little extra oomph to my outfit. Overall, a great buy.

I wore this lipstick to my schools Grad Banquet as a photographer. It lasted well over 5 hours threw dinner, drinks, and talking without feathering or any other touch ups. It's a fairly moisture rich lipstick and my lips did not dry out. the price was right considering i usually will pay over $30 for lipstick but this was as good as the expensive brands. the only complaint was the smell. It smells a lot like playdoe but the smell does fade quickly. the only other problem is that when taking the lipstick off it stains and doesn't come off for a couple of washes. Overall a good product

This is a beautiful bright red. It goes on amazingly and doesn't dry out your lips. The only thing i absolutly HATE about this lipstick though is that it really stains your lips. I have the same problem with the color enchantress.

Very beautiful bright red! I thought I could never wear lipstick before I bought this. I've tried other various sample lipsticks here and there, but it always ends up smearing and bleeding and looking a hot mess! I wanted to try a red lip and decided to get this Cover Girl (mainly because it was cheap and I didn’t have high expectations about this lipstick experiment anyway, and didn’t want to waste a bunch of money) but man was I surprised!!! This lipstick goes on easily, doesn’t smear or bleed, and lasts ALL DAY! The first time I wore it, I was checking myself in the mirror every 2 seconds because I was so paranoid, but it did not budge! I even ate and it stayed on! This lipstick single handedly changed my mind on lipstick as a whole! I’m definitely going to get more colors.
It is a matte lipstick, but doesn’t dry out your lips, but your lips need to be well moisturized to wear it, or it will show any chapping.
Overall, a fantastic buy!!

I just ate an entire Hot Pocket and this shit didn't even budge. For real. I have the matching lip liner on underneath and I've hardly had to touch it up all day. It will stain your lips though, so think long and hard before you put it on about whether or not you want to wear it all day. I was worried that this would be too pink, but I wanted to try it so I bought it anyway. It's definitely red, but if you sit and stare at it and wonder if there's pink in it, you'll notice that it's a little bit pink in certain lights. Certainly not pink enough to be a deal breaker for those looking for a lovely red color. It's very bright, it's a beautiful color.

Also: Dear Internet, can we PLEASE stop calling this Hot Passion? It's just called Hot!!

WOWZA!! Hellooo Fire Engine Red!! Think Christina Aguilera. This is a "Notice Me Red" very beautiful if worn the right way. Definitely need a lip liner with this. I notice it smears really easily so pay special attention to application. This has a built in lip stain I feel (dk if they claim this but if they do, its evident). Slides on effortlessly with a creamy/semi gloss finish. For added staying power I like to use Revlon JustBitten LipStain in Gothic underneath for GUARANTEED no touch up, staying power. I think it'll be flattering on the lightest to the darkest of us, just PLEASE....minimal eye makeup ladies, think classic pin-up :)

I swatched this lipstick 8 times on my hands(all on separate occasions) before committing. Sometimes, it was the flawless bright red I was looking for. But some times, it was too orange. At others too pink. When CG lip products were on for $6.99 at Shopper's, however, I bit the bullet- thank God! Hot Passion is a warmer toned but very bright red that dries semi matte but doesn't dry out your lips. It brightens my face up. It stains my lips as Lip Perfections tend to do and is a lipstick that bleeds easily, but the colour and the moisturizing formula makes up for it. Another thing is the plasticy scent, but it fades. Packaging is sleek and cute and price was right. No regrets and another 5 lippie rating for Hot Passion! ;)

PS: It looks nothing like the scarlet colour Drew Barrymore dons in the ad campaign, although it is supposedly what she's wearing.

Absolutely love the pigmentation and staying power of this lipstick! As other reviewers said, it has inbuilt lipstain so virtually no touchups required! I have to use an entire makeup wipe to get the pigment of. I use it with Covergirl Lip Perfection lip liner in 215 Passion. Before buying, swatch it on your hand because it is an extremely bold red. Definitely not for the fainthearted :)
