This is an awesome polish. The only gripe I have (and with all Essie polishes, really) is that they need to update or do something new with their brush. Other companies are coming out with brushes that make their polishes so easy to apply... come on, Essie!
The color is a deep dark eggplant. Darker than LPAD, darker than Wicked, almost black. Very shiny even without a top coat and like all other Essies, I find this polish to last several days without chips. Takes a few coats to reach that perfect opacity but worth it!

I don't normally splurge on nail polish, but I was so excited to see this shade on sale so I treated myself! I've been looking for a deep plum for years, but they were always too purple or shimmery. This is exactly what I was looking for, a deep plum that is almost black. Its so sophisticated :) It also seems to be chip-resistant and even passed the hair washing test. Glad I finally found it!

I think I just found my replacement for OPI LPAD!!! LPAD I have been wearing for a few years now, and I thought it was my HG color until I found this Essie devils advocate. LPAD has a thicker consistency n can be troublesome to apply if not careful, but Essie goes on nicely n is just a tiny hair bit lighter so you can actually see the purple tint to it. Only con is that it is a 3 coater (thin) for full opaqueness. I love it!
EDIT: have been wearing this for 7 days with no top coat, there is only minimal tip wear. That is unheard of!!! OMG. This is the longest wearing nail polish I've ever applied!! This may be replacing my favorite OPI LPAD!

Gorgeous colour, looks black in most light but if you hold it near something black (or in sunlight) you can see there is a purple-ish tinge to it. I don't wear dark shades very often and never wear black polish but I like this a lot. Not as stark as black, dries very shiny and is opaque in 2 coats. I also love the way this looks with a glitter topcoat over it. I dislike that it seemed to take a while to dry compared to other Essies I own. Would repurchase.

This is a gorgeous, deep blackberry(black/violet) shade, and one of my absolute favorite Essie nail polish shades. It's very rich, and deep. A nice alternative to wearing black nail polish-this has the subtle nuance of dark violet mixed in there, and it gives it vamp appeal.
Love this!

When I went to buy this, I thought it was black (the store I was in had very poor lighting). I was disappointed when I realized it was purple, but went ahead with the application anyway. This is a very nice, dark shade. When I have two coats on, it's hard to tell it's plum, but the shade isn't nearly as harsh as a black would be. Unlike most Essie polishes, I only needed two coats, whereas I usually put on three or four. It's very shiny and lasts a long time.

Love this color. Its definitely a dark plum color that almost looks black. But i love this because it goes on really well, two coats is plenty and when it dries, its really shiny even without a top coat. It lasted me a week before I finally chipped it. I love my dark colors and this is definitely one of my favorite ones.

There should be more reviews for this shade. It is a black plum. Exactly the same shade as the real fruit. The color went on evenly for me in the first coat, but you need the second coat for it to be a beautiful vamp shade. It dries quite shiny. This shade goes on so easily for being so dark. You have to take much more effort for nude sheer shades. I got glossy black plum nails in less than 15 minutes. Update: This shade has not chipped yet! I use the Sally Hansen Insta-Dry topcoat with it after the first and second coat are fully dry. Just to make sure the color has set and dried. The topcoat just works like armor.

Very vampy deep deep purple with maroon undertones that basically looks black. Three coats for full opacity and one top coat lasted 5 days with zero chips and it stayed glossy. This was an at-home mani so I am impressed with the wear. Nice and dramatic for Fall on my short nails.

Essie calls this "a deeply devilish dark plum." In order to get the color even, I had to do three coats and once those coats were on this color looked very close to black. It's a dark, smoky black-plum cream. In bright indoor/outdoor lighting, you can see the purple notes, but a casual observer would still assume you were wearing black polish. If you held your hand up to thier face, they'd be like "oh, i *can* see the plum shade." Where my polish was a little more lightly applied around the edges, the polish looked more plummy. I've seen that effect in photos on bloggers' swatches for this shade as well. That said, I always could see the purple notes, I like vampy colors, and I like this polish! I can't wait for fall/winter to wear this more frequently. The application was good for an Essie, not too thin or watery. The finish was nice and it lasted well with no chips or nail wear for the few days that I wore it.
