This is a colorless pencil designed to smooth, shape, and define lips and prevent lip color from feathering and fading. The lip definer replaced Aveda's colored lip liners, which were recently discontinued. Because the lip definer is colorless, it is billed as something that can be used with all lip colors, eliminating the need for a variety of lip liners to coordinate with different lipsticks. I don't wear bright colored lipstick, so I can only comment on how this product works with more natural, subdued, and neutral shades of lip color. I use this to line and fill in my lips and apply lipstick and/or lipgloss on top. I am impressed with the product's ability to prevent lipstick from bleeding. I have thin lips and found that I am able to create a natural looking illusion of lip fullness by applying the lip definer slightly outside my lip line. Aveda's colored lip liners provided very long lasting lip color, whereas this product doesn't achieve the same result. The major downside to this product is the price, as $20 for a lip liner seems ridiculous.

This is a colourless lip liner and all it is supposed to do is keep lipstick in place and stop it from bleeding. But it does more than that! I put this liner on first, then Aveda Lip Saver on the rest of my lip area then lipstick over both. This keeps my lipstick in place, my lips stay hydrated and no dead skin buildup at all - all day long! I've never had that before. I usually have to apply more Lip Saver and lipstick at least 2 more times a day. My lips look the same at 6PM as they did in the morning. It's completely crazy. It comes as a crayon which you sharpen like eyeliner, which I don't like because when you sharpen it, you waste product. But it's such a great product that I'm willing to overlook that. I've been searching for something to make my lipstick stay for my wedding and this is perfect.
