I got a sample of this and I can't make up my mind whether I like it or not. Someone here said it smelled like soap. Not just plain soap but something more. That reviewer hit it on the head. Yes, this is a bit soapy, but not just generic soap - like the rip-offs in the 'Clean' series - there's something more. I smell a bit of citrus and a bit of suntan lotion. Citrus-floral, I'd say. At first spritz it's, Ouch! LOUD! Sort of like Agent Provocateur's Maitress. Then it dries down to something more wearable. Would I buy it? Well, first I would have to decide if I like it or not and by the time I make up my mind it'll be discontinued.

This a nice perfume- pleasant, but generic and boring. I like perfume to have a distinct personality, and this is just far too dull for me.

I will not be buying this again, except perhaps as a gift for someone I don't know too well.

Vanitas is very sophisticated and complex. I think it smells very expensive and may be suited for special events and occasions. It does smell like soap, but it is not only that, in fact, it's more. There are other elements to the scent that makes it smell special and luxurious. Meaning, it doesn't just smell clean. It smells very deep, sensual and mysterious. Another thing I find great about this perfume is that it can last for a very long time.
The bottle is elegantly fancy and looks like it has white gold on it. It is very tasteful and looks as expensive as it smells.
Although I love having this perfume in my collection. I don't think I would buy it again because it really isn't my style (though I love it). The scent is very classy and high maintainance while I'm the more natural and free type of person.
Please try this perfume. :)

Love this one!,very simple, floral and fresh. Smells like a fresh ocean breeze over white flowers on a sun drenched tropical beach. I simply afore this one.....it is very pretty...could be office friendly as well as for parties...it could be worn all year but prefer to wear in warmer weather. This is great. Simple. Basic. Yet really beautiful in a subtle way. Lasting power isn't the best.

I don't know what it is about Versace fragrances they work amazing with my natural oils.. (If that's what it's called) I have been using Versace ever since I can remember. Vanitas is my everyday grown up scent and whenever I wear this tons of people are asking me what I am wearing. I think everyone should own something like this that when you put it on you feel fab!

I actually received a sample size of this product in the mail today and I'm in love. I was looking to buy a new perfume and I was thinking about maybe getting Gucci Rush. When I smelled this for the first time I instantly adored it. I really, really recommend it. It's very floral, it's very sophisticated and it's just my cup of tea really! The only con is that it's expensive, but most high brand perfumes are, I believe.

This fragrance is very generic. It's a soapy and flowery concoction that doesn't leave a memorable impression.

Love this fragrance! It starts off on a very strong note but fades into a mild floral and sophisticated scent. It is perfect for summer when one doesn't want to reek of perfume and probably good for spring/autumn as well. I wouldn't recommend it for winter because it doesn't last very long. This is my second favourite after Prada's Ambre L'eau - mild, sophisticated and good for work and evenings out.

What is up w/Versace?! Every time I try a Versace fragrance it develops a strong soapy scent on me, which I dislike. That was the case w/Red Jeans so I gave it away. Now I tried on my coworker's Vanitas & it initally smelled so nice - an immediate sultry spicy beginning... but the drydown became intensely laundry-powder soapy. Oh well, another fail for me. I still have to say this one is much better than Red Jeans.

initial spray was light & sweet but then developed into a very strong (like the reviewer below me) "perfumey" scent. too strong for my nose. lasted forever though, even after a good scrubbing i can still smell it on my arms. very expensive for such a tiny bottle. i still prefer my versace signature. wish it lasted as long as this one does. not horrible but nothing special. too strong for daytime and not sexy enough for night.

Got a sample of this from Nordstrom, as I'm looking to expand my Spiring/Summer fragrance wardrobe. I already own and love Versace's Bright Crystal. Vanitas was just okay. A bit too "perfumey" in the opening. The middle was some soft white flowers. And then it faded into nothingness rather quickly. A no-go for me.

I was lucky enough to purchase this when I was in Italy in mid-January, when it was still new and unavailable in the states. (I see you can buy it at Nordstrom's now?) It is one of my favorite perfumes at this point, especially since it's warmer outside! I think that makes Vanitas bloom in a way that I didn't get to experience in the chilly, windy Florentine winter. I've gotten many compliments from both men and women while wearing this, and I'm not even close to being done with my bottle... I think it's reasonably similar to Bright Crystal, but definitely not as sweet. I prefer Vanitas actually.

I just picked this up a few days ago at Nordstrom. Wow! It is such a pretty, long lasting fragrance. I absolutely love this new Versace fragrance and have received lots of compliments. It's expensive but worth every penny, in my opinon. It starts out strong, but dries down to a soft, pretty floral that lasts for hours. Love it!

I live in the United States (Washington) and Vanitas is currently available at Nordstrom. I Love this fragrance, although have not purchased yet...will probably go back tonight to get it. It is a very simple, floral scent. Very feminine and sophisticated. It is a bit strong, so a little goes a long way. I only sprayed once on my wrist and that was enough to last for hours. I couldn't stop smelling my wrist! Love love love it!

As I live in Europe, I have had the chance of sniffing this Versace novelty (and I was even given the body lotion as a X-mas present..:!) given that it will not be released to the US until 2012 (why so? maybe they're testing the market).
First thought: this is a big woody floral, very Eighties looking/smelling, a lot in your face.
But it's not unpleasant. very initial notes of citrus/lime, but then huge sweet freesia and other white flowers. The base is a woody vanillic one, long lasting (the body lotion scent last more than 24 hours on my skin!).
But it's a bold perfume.
Refain if you are in a conservative office environment or if you don't like a lot of sillage.
It's not unpleasant, mind you, perhaps it's one of the best creations of the last decade by Versace (and that's saying much), it has an aura of sophisitication and the materials used in this formula are high level, without a doubt.
I am not sure if i really like it, but I can wear it in small dosis.
For sure I am not going to buy it as the bottle is quite expensive for a department store: 90 Euros is the starting price and I guess there is no other choice - for the moment - than the 100 ml bottle (the body lotion is 40 Euros).
By the way bottle and pacakging are luxurious and refined: a crystal square block dressed on the left side by a gold band.
Very Versace and very high-end looking.
A nice to try, but for me, a no-buy.

___________
notes of green lime, freesia, tiare flower, tonka bean, cedar wood.
