This is a pretty good moisturizer. Given that it has such a high SPF it doesn't really leave me greasy or shiny. It absorbs right into my skin leaving behind no residue. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't do much for the look/feel of my skin. I realize it's primary function is to serve as a sunscreen but, I like a product to be multipurpose.

This sunscreen is amazing! I've been using this almost daily for a few months now and I love it. I have very fair, acne-prone, sensitive skin and chemical sunscreens tend to turn my face into a red, irritated mess but this one doesn't bother me at all. It's very lightweight (the consistency is thin and runny) and I only need to use about a dime sized amount for my entire face. It sinks into my skin fast, moisturizes very well and doesn't leave a white cast. It also works great under makeup. I feel like my foundation lasts longer when I wear this under it.

The only complaint I have is it does leave my face looking a tad shiny. Not nearly as much as some other sunscreens I've tried though. It's perfect once I put my makeup on or use a little powder over it. :)

This is the only sunscreen I'll use on my face from now on. I'll definitely be repurchasing.

This product is awesome. I have combination skin and it gives just the right amount of moisture without making me too greasy or dry. This product is better than most of my way more expensive mositurizers and I find that my foundation clings to my skin nicely through the day rather than sliding off. I actually prefer this moisturizer over many of my makeup primers due to it's ability to work so well under makeup. My skin looks dewey, not greasy, through the day and my foundation lasts an extra long time, even longer than when I use regular makeup primer!!! Love this stuff!!!

I wish I loved this as much as some others do, but I bought this liquid sunscreen because I hoped it would make my skin less oily than traditional lotion sun screens. For me this is still very moisturizing and definitely gives me a greasy face once applied even if I only use about a dime sized amount for my whole face (which is probably not enough to get the full 50 SPF stated on the bottle since you always need to use ridiculous amounts of product to get the SPF on the label). The plus side to using a liquid is that I find this very easy to spread evenly over the face. I do not notice any white cast to this product either which is nice.

Normal to dry skins will probably like this more than oily/combination types though that's not saying much since those skin types always do better with these kinds of emollient sun screens than other skin types. For oily skins this is just another over-moisturizing sun screen no better or worse than most other kinds of sun screen.

This is the best sunscreen I've ever used. I'm biracial but freckle so I use sunscreen every day and high SPF during the Texas summer. This sinks right into the skin and doesn't leave a whitish cast to the skin. I highly recommend this to olive and darker skinned women who want to protect their skin without looking ashy!!!

I'm a fair redhead and need a sunscreen everyday. I'm all about prevention, but hated wearing sunscreen under makeup because I could never find one with a high SPF that didn't make the foundation look "off". This is perfect for me. It has a slight floral scent to me but it fades quickly and isn't very strong. This is the only moisturizer I use in the morning. I use Weleda Skin Food at night and don't cleanse my face in the morning, I just wipe my eyes with a damp washcloth to get rid of the morning crusties :) The Skin Food is so moisturizing that this sunscreen is the only thing I need in the mornings. For reference, my skin is combination, but the drier areas get patchy without proper moisturizing. With this regime, I don't get dry patches and my makeup doesn't accentuate them either. I'm really happy with this product and will continue to repurchase.

Color: None. Clear! No white cast at all.

Texture/Finish: Thin and watery. Applying the ¼ teaspoon (i.e., 1.2mL) derm-recommended minimum to the face alone, I would call the consistency of this sunscreen more oily than sticky. The finish is shiny, but not overly so.

Pill Factor: None. But given the above point, it might prove necessary to wear a thin, matte-finish foundation in an effort to cut down on the shine.

Eye Sensitivity Factor: I ask a lot of my sunscreens, and insist on applying SPF over the upper eyelid, as well as all the way up to the lower lash line - and being extremely comfortable with that straight to bedtime when I wash my face. No all-out eye sting from Healthy Defense Liquid Moisturizer SPF50 for me; however, I will say that I got that almost-watery eye feeling later in the day. Worth noting.

Protection: Helioplex is not as strong a UVA filter as Mexoryl (both are almost always paired with Avobenzone/Parsol 1789 in sunscreens); but overall, I would rate this sunscreen quite well for its U.S.-level filters and especially its cosmetic elegance. I've had better with Euro facial sunscreens; but in the U.S., I am accustomed to a LOT worse. So well done, Neutrogena.

This is my favorite chemical sunscreen. I'm generally really sensitive to stinging and heat when I apply chemical sunscreens, but I haven't had that issue with this sunscreen yet. I was intrigued by the claims that it is lightweight and "liquid," and I was not disappointed. It's a white liquid--think the consistency of a rather thin liquid foundation. It's not clear. It's not water. It's definitely "product," but a product that is easy to spread on my face. It doesn't seem to go on with a cast (but then, I am ultra pale.) Wonder of wonders, it dries quickly, it doesn't feel sticky or heavy, and it works very well under makeup! I hate it when sunscreen pills when I put foundation over it. This sunscreen formula is the least gross chemical sunscreen that I have ever tried. Hoo frickin' ray.

I work out in the sun 8 hours a day, 5 days a week so to say I have to wear sunscreen is an understatement. I've gone through quite a few brands of sunscreen. Most gave me that horrible white sheen and some even felt like they were burning my skin especially around the eye area. I picked this up when I noticed it was on sale. I love the texture and consistency; it blends into the skin really fast. It does not feel greasy at all- in fact it just feels like my bare skin- and does not have the SS smell. It also doesn't burn my skin. I also really like the packaging. Its small enough that it fits in my purse without taking up any space. Plus the harder plastic body prevents any accidental squeezing in the purse. I wear this in an SPF 70 (apply twice a day- Im in the sun a lot) and so far no burn and barely any noticeable tanning through the SS (I tan easily).

Definitely will be buying this again

So, this is an amazing SS and it's a shame there are two odd reviews bringing down it's rating, but don't let them put you off!

It's very thin and runny (you have to shake it). It's kind of like the Asian SS's minus all the alcohol. I have dark skin and since it's a purely chemical SS it doesn't leave any white film. It is chemical though so if you're sensitive to that type of SS you're probably going to want to skip it.

It's great to wear under mu because it's light and doesn't change the finish of your foundation and it's great to wear without mu because it doesn't make you shiny. Your skin pretty much looks and feels the same way it did before you applied.

I have dry skin and I wouldn't consider this a heavy moisturizer. It has more moisturizing properties than the Ultra Sheer Sunscreen only version of this product.

The price is also right!

I really like this so far. I mix it with a little mineral makeup to make tinted moisturizer and it works great for that. Wish a product this lightweight and comfortable had been available a long time before now, then I might have been a good girl about protecting my skin better.

The feel of the moisturizer is fine and it's easy to apply because of the runny liquid texture. You're supposed to shake the bottle before squeezing out the moisturizer. It reminds me a lot of a Sheishedo sunscreen I used to have which broke me out. I wish I could have liked it since the SPF is high but unfortunately, it clogs my pores. Not horribly but I have other moisturizers with SPF that don't break me out at all so I'll stick to those even if the SPF is lower.

Like all SPF products it makes my skin really oily. Plus I think I developed some form of reaction to uva filters since I have been surfing and using hella lots of SPF on my face.

It irritates my skin but that's the same with anything that contain the slightest amount of SPF.

I'll update during the summer.

I am on my third bottle of this and really love it. I have used sunscreen moisturizers for 25+ years and this is my favorite. I have an oily T zone and all of this made my nose very greasy and shiny .... This is very much a liquid .... very light and does not add to the T zone problem. I use the spf 50

I bought this when I ran out of an Olay product that also had SPF 50. They were out of the Olay stuff in the store, and this Neutrogena product seemed like the next best thing. Actually, it might just be THE best thing I've ever used when it comes to lightweight SPF for use on the face.

Packaging says that it "...is the first daily moisturizer in an incredibly light liquid from Neutrogena that glides on smoothly and works beautifully alone as a lightweight moisturizer or with your existing skin-care products."

It turns out that this Neutrogena product is totally different from the Olay product. It is much more of a liquid than any other similar product I've ever used, as the name suggests. So far, it's been wonderful on my skin. If the SPF is as effective as it claims to be, then I'm wondering why anyone would use greasy/heavy SPF formulas when this is available. The SPF comes from purely chemical sunscreen (Avobenzone, Homosalate, Octisalate, Octocrylene, and Oxybenzone) with no physical sunscreen at all (i.e. titanium dioxide, zinc oxide) so if you're sensitive to chemical SPF ingredients, steer clear.

It works beautifully under makeup, and leaves no trace of whiteness or opacity when used alone or under makeup. You have to shake the bottle a bit before applying, and there are even little metallic balls in the bottle (think of the mixing balls in nail polish bottles) that assist with making sure that the product gets well mixed when you shake it. The shaking of the bottle reassures me that all the SPF ingredients will be well-distributed, and the lightweight liquid formula has not caused any breakouts. The opaque packaging with a very small nozzle-type applicator reassures me that there will be few, if any, problems with this product degrading due to over-exposure to light and air.

All in all, I'm so happy with this product that I'll definitely look for it the next time I need a facial moisturizer with SPF.
