I've tried everything to make this product usable. And well...it can be done to some extent but to be quite honest - the effort is not worth the result. I found that the only possible way to apply it was to mix it with a highly moisturizing cream (plus a pre-moisturized face). But even then the finish looks very uneven and doesn't cover all that well (creases, smudges off, looks flaky...). This was my first Bourjois' foundation purchase and it almost put me off from their other products as well.
My skin is very fair (and oily) and the lightest shade of this foundation was slightly too dark for me (although the difference is not that noticeable).
The good thing is that I didn't notice any breakouts whilst using it...
I really wanted to like it, but unfortunately all I can say is that I wouldn't purchase it again.

I'm kind of confused when deciding getting this product. But the 98% organic ingredients just make me buy this.
I first apply this foundation on with ELF Studio Powder Brush after doing a research how to apply it most effectively. It become evenly perfect.
THIS CAME OUT AMAZING!
I have tried so many other foundation: Revlon mineral mousse, L'oreal... but they are all not so suitable with my place's weather which is super humid and hot night and day. They all turn greyish or melt out on my face then become such a mess!
but this foundation is absolutely amazing, it stays on my face for 5 hours without any greasiness. After coming home, I remove the makeup and my face is just brighter and don't have any break-out which is super cool for me.
So sad I heard they discontinued the product. If only I can get another one with longer exp date.

**UPDATE** So, I love this foundation. The only thing that has bothered me just a little is the smell, because it's kind of strong. Otherwise, this has been the least reactive foundation on my skin... ever. It doesn't contribute to my breakouts and that is a downright miracle. I'm being serious... my acne is terrible and this stuff has been playing nice with it. HG? I think so. Only problem is that I think it is being phased out :(

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Redoing my review - I have since figured it out. I'm sad that it got discontinued because all it takes is a damp face and some patience for this to work. How I use it:

Wash my face, pat a little of the excess water off but don't let it dry completely.

Apply with fingers, big swaths moving in mostly one direction.

Let dry - it WILL look streaky.

Once it is nearly completely dry (maybe after about a minute or two) massage and blend gently with fingertips. It will not roll, ball up, or mush off of your face like it would normally.

Ta-da! Finish should be nice. Maybe not as smooth as a silicone makeup, but just about. Finish is great, color is great, coverage is amazing. Lasting power is impressive, but my only gripe is that it will wipe off quite easy.

Man, why can't they keep selling this? After 15 years of searching for an HG, and I have found it, only for it to be cancelled. It is the absolute best foundation I have ever used.

I know this is a much-maligned foundation, having read the many negative reviews well before I purchased it. However, I tend to prefer natural products and I liked that this one was both organic as well as reasonably affordable. It took some searching (I live in India, where we have Bourjois but the shade & product range is not always complete!) but when I spotted a single bottle in my shade I snatched it up immediately.

I can see how the thickness of this foundation would turn people off. Before trying it on my face, I rubbed a swatch on my hand and went 'uh oh...' because it was very thick and didn't blend very well. However, I was determined to make it work. The pigmentation of this product makes it a good one to mix with moisturizers to make something akin to a tinted moisturizer. I use Josie Maran's Daily Argan Moisturizer with SPF 50, and I'm finding that 2-3 pumps of that mixed with 1/2 to 1 pump of BioDetox in my palm is the perfect pair, making this foundation much easier to apply. It does take a bit of extra work to blend it into the skin. Because the Josie Maran moisturizer is a physical sunblock, I was already used to taking a minute to massage it in so all the product absorbs. I find that with the BioDetox mixed in, I just need to take a minute or two to massage it onto different sections of my face (first cheeks, then T-zone and forehead) and the finish comes out really nice. It seems at first like the foundation isn't going to absorb, but after a minute it sinks in and leave my skin looked toned, even and fresh. No obvious foundation, no streaks or cakiness like others have been complaining about.

I let the foundation set for a few minutes while I do the rest of my makeup and then I finish with a light dusting of MAC blot powder on all the areas I need it. Applying it this way, I've actually been really impressed with the lasting power of this foundation. I use Healthy Mix as well and I find that BioDetox seems to be holding up better in the shine control department, and actually does a great job of keeping my blush in place. It can emphasize dry spots and flakes a bit if you have them, but well-moisturized skin or good-day skin should enjoy this.

The coverage using this method is light to medium, and if you have any spots or hyperpigmentation you'll probably need to use a concealer as this foundation isn't the greatest for building coverage. But if you like natural products and are willing to give this one a bit of extra work, I think it's well worth it. Maybe the Josie Maran moisturizer is just a particularly good match for blending it with - but I'd imagine any thin-consistency facial SPF or moisturizer, perhaps with a bit of oil in it, should work. I hope this helps encourage more people to try it!

Oh how I loathe this. It has the closest match to my skin tone (shade Vanille Clair) But my god, it's the messiest foundation I've ever used! It's terribly streaky and dries almost instantly on your face, so if you try to blend it, it will ball up in your fingers and go patchy. I've tried mixing it with some moisturizer and water, both give the same result. Streaky patchy mess! Going to be trying healthy mix in the same shade instead. Do yourself a favor, give this foundation a miss!

I bought this product because I read some good reviews about it. But when I used, I feel so disapointed. I blend it with my finger or sponge, my face look very terrible. Caked and un-naturally as you're wearing a mask. However, when I used a moisture sponge, it's better. My face look no caked, but the coverage is bad. So, I can say:

Pros:
- Oil- control : ok if you use with oil-control powder, rate 3/5
- organic extract

Cons:
- Caked
- The coverage is bad
- Non-waterproof
- Packaging : letters in bottle is faded easily.
- The price : I bought it for 20$. Too expensive for a bad product.

I read all kinds of reviews. I think the foundation can be OK, just depends which skin type you have and how you apply the foundation.
For me it's a terrible foundation.
I have very dry skin (with occasionaly dry patches on my cheeks) but a quite oily forehead. At first I thought the foundation was a bit old, after all I bought it when it was on sale for just 5 euro's (and it was the last one!). It's very cakey, thick and on my skin it just gives me a mask effect.
I noticed it probably would work better with a good moisterizer, I also tried to apply it thinly with a sponge (hoping it would get on nicer, but it probably is best when you apply it with your fingers).
But after trying it for just 2/3 times (and actually washing it off) I probably am not going to try this one again!
I have kept it (I'm a make-up artist) and I might try it on a model with very oily and clear skin.

*KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING*

There's a lot of love and hate for this product and so I read a whole bunch of reviews before I bought this. And it's great that people are expressing their opinions on this product but at the same time, it frustrates me. People should know exactly what they are buying before they buy this. And no, I'm not just talking about the pretty adverts. People need to learn how to read past the marketing. Seriously, it wouldn't affect the reviews out there in any bad way. In fact, it would encourage all reviewers to discern their products for what they actually are.

~This is an mattifying organic liquid foundation.
The fact that this statement is even remotely true sounds plainly oxymoronic. So take heed, there aren't a lot of these foundations out there. Know this is a special product and understand it so it can work best for you. If you can't be bothered because you wanted it to be like any other foundation, then that is your choice. But hey, you also bought this so...

~ It won't help you hide your flakey skin.
It dries super matte and dries fast because it has no silicones to help it slide. Make sure you moisturise a bit extra if you know you need it to create your own slide/prevent the make up to dry out your skin.

~It applies best with fingers
Warm it up to your finger tips and apply on moisturised skin. You will see it work wonders. Don't bother with a brush unless you're into texturising your skin with stripes. Finger tip application works best when the foundation can be blended in a bit with your moisturiser.

I didn't actually buy this product, but I did get a generous sample so I could play with it for a few times. The advertising made me think this would be a very nice foundation for my oily skin.
The shade selection is not wide by any standards, but it is adequate for light to medium caucasian skintones. I got it in the shade 53 which seemed to match my skin nicely, but I think I could have gone with 52 as well.
The coverage is quite good, I would describe it as medium. It does cover smaller redness areas and it evens out the skin very well, but it is not enough for stronger pigmentation. Also, it doesn't feel heavy on the skin and I didn't have problems with streakiness as some other reviewers did (fyi, I use a flat synthetic kabuki to apply foundation).
However, it felt very drying and it accentuated every little dry patch I had. It made my pores look bigger too. I thought this may make it more suitable for the summer months, but I was so wrong. After an hour or two, my face became very oily and the foundation has very little staying power.
I blame alcohol which is quite high on the ingredient list. It mattifies the skin at first, but then your skin reacts by making more oil, which just looks awful. Furthermore, alcohol is very bad for the skin and I see this foundation working for noone. The drier people will hate it because it will make them look even drier and the oily will hate it because the grease breaks through very fast.
If you had any desire to try this foundation, I say: skip it! It's definitely not worth the money.

I have to say i love this foundation!
I bought it on sale for 10eur(half price) and i'm really pleased with it.I have combination-oily skin which gets quite sensitive too and this one feels fresh and light on the skin although it's thick enough to give a good coverage. It doesnt irritate my skin or cause breakouts. Its does dry fast but this never bothered me or caused me any probs with application.I would even consider it a plus.
The packaging is good and doesn't leak or anything.
I would only ask for an SPF in it to be completely satisfied.
For this and only, i choose to give it a 4*.
But i would definitely buy again!!!

Like many fans of Borjois, I am drawn by the knowledge that the products are not tested on animals, and the range of colours they offer suit western European complexions. When looking for a new foundation, I was intrigued by the concept of a 'Bio Detox' organic formula for my skin. I had found their highlighting pen to be an excellent hue and consitency for under my eyes, so I was hoping that the new foundation would similarly brighten my face.

The foundation is packaged in a thick, transparent plastic tube, with a pump nozzle for dispensing. The foundation dribbles out, and has a texture that is unusually runny for a pump foundation. The colour I had purchased was 'light vanille', a very pale, almost porcelain shade that I had picked because it was winter. When I tried to apply it with a foundation brush, the formula was so feeble that the brush left patterns, almost as if I was using lotion. Using fingers doesn't help either as you simply end up wiping the foundation off. The scent was very unusual for a foundation, almost reminiscent of aloe vera, which in such large quantities was overpowering. I personally prefer my make up free of any odour.

This product was simply too weak to serve any purpose. It was hopeless as a foundation, and was too thin to be used as anything else. This experience is enough to make me doubt Borjois foundations enough to never try another one. I think that their forte is the lovely old fashioned 'baked' makeup that they do so well in the form of eye shadows and face powders, and perhaps they should stick to traditional formulas in future.

I've heard a lot about Bourjois foundations, and I love their eyeshadows, so I thought why not? This cost me something like AU$34 from Priceline... to me that's not very cheap! I admit I kind of bought it on a whim and knew the colour wouldn't be perfect for me (I bought the lightest shade which was noticeably unsuitable for my extremely pale skin), however it was more the consistency about which I was interested.

This foundation is TERRIBLE. It's impossible to apply evenly - I used fingers, a brush, a sponge... It's the streakiest foundation I have ever worked with (I know I'm young but I've tried many); it simply does not blend. And like someone said below, it dries instantly and if you try to blend it with your fingers it simply balls up and crumbles off of your face!

Shocking. Don't waste your money. I regret this purchase so much. :(

Since I only use organic makeup, I decided to give this ago even though the reviews seemed to show that people either love it or hate it. It worked well on my combination skin and blended fairly well when I moisturised before hand, however when I'm doing my friend's makeup I notice that it is too patchy and extremely hard to blend!

Overall- If you have smooth skin that is naturally moist then this will work well for you.Otherwise it can be too dry.

I absolutely LOVE this foundation!
Because it has no silicone it will not "glide" on to your face as easily as foundations that do contain silicone, but I did not experience a hard time blending this. You just need to make sure that you put on a good moisturizer before putting on your foundation.
I have quite dry skin but I did not see any worsening of the dryness due to this foundation (however I repeat that I DO put on moisturizer before putting on the foundation). The coverage is medium and very buildable, it evens out my skin tone perfectly and I do not need to use as much concealer as with other foundations (or none at all). Also the finish is on the matt side which I love. I do like l'Oreal foundations also but recently they have been adding sparkles to almost all their foundations - which on some occasion I don't want to have. This does not have SPF so make sure you use a sunscreen separately if you want SPF.
No sparkles+ no SPF makes this also a good foundation for taking pictures/perfomance (I am a dancer/performer and sometimes use Kryolan products but tried this on stage and works fantastic with some power in top - no flashback on photos due to no SPF and no shiny face due to lack of sparkles). However for performance, don't forget to use primer and powder with it.
This is also a perfect match for my skintone (I use Vanilla, the second lightest shade I think), which was at first one of the main reasons I bought this, because I have quite light skin but with a yellowish undertone and had a hard time finding a drugstore foundation that would not make me appear pinkish. Also the colour does not oxidize.
Stays good for 5-6 hours depending on your skin type (oily/combination/dry).
Did NOT make me break out. My skin feels very healthy.

For the packaging - it is a pump bottle (good for hygiene) and plastic, super lightweight so very good for travelling (when I am on tour) and see through so you see exactly how much you have left (however because of this make sure you do not leave it under direct sun light)

I am off to purchase my second bottle right now! :D

I really like using this foundation, I find that the colour suits my skintone and the liquid is a nice consistency - not to thick, but not too runny that you can't blend it properly. It smells nice and offers a light-medium coverage and can be layered if left to dry first. A bottle also lasts a good amount of time so if you are money conscious like me, this offers value for money.

The only reason that I haven't given 5 lippies is due to the fact that if I put this on without letting my moisturiser sink in or I use too much product it goes a bit strange and becomes hard to blend. But this is rare, and I love using this foundation every day :)

I would definitely buy again - I already have! :)

I am so surprised by all the terrible reviews of this product on here. I am a bit of a make up novice and I find this foundation really easy to use. I'm NC35 with olivey undertones and I've been wearing vanilla (which I think is a bit on the light side for my complexion, but I generally only wear fuller coverage foundation in the evening to go out). I am really happy with the coverage, really makes my skin look lovely and reduces the need for concealer dramatically. I also love that it doesn't have have parabens, as I'm trying really hard to eliminate them from my make up as much as possible.

After reading good reviews on this product, I purchased this product in shade 52.

My first use: What a disappointment to say the least! The texture is horrible when applied, it dries up as soon as you put it on your face. I used sponges & my fingers, both made no difference.

Second use: ALOT better, for some reason it was terrible when applied first time! It is a bit dry still. The trick is to basically apply it very quickly or it sets on your face and u just get patches of colour. Also I felt the color was a tiny bit darker to my usual foundation, so perhaps 51 would have been better.

So okish, but I will not purchase this again. Im thinking of getting the Healthy mix one by bourjois.

Yes this takes abit of getting used to application wise. As someone has already said in a review use fingers and blend quickly.

Once its dry it evens out my skintone nicely - I do have to use concealer but do for most foundations.
It hasnt caused breakouts which is a plus on my skin.

Sometimes I find the smell inoffensive, sometimes I love it and sometimes I absolutely hate it and have to used a different foundation.

Overall I really like this and now I know how to apply it its almost my HG

I'm surprised by how much I like this foundation, I bought it in Tesco for £5 when they were half price so I thought it would be worth a go. It's a very good foundation for money. It's not perfect, but it's a start.

Pros:
+ Organic
+ Eco-Cert
+ Nice ingredients
+ Doesn't break me out
+ Doesn't hurt or itch
+ Semi-matte finish
+ Buildable.
+ Very light - my skin can breathe! I can feel the air!

Cons
- Dries quickly
- Face must be thoroughly moisturised pre-application
- Cakes in places, however this can be very easily remedied by dapping water on your finger tips and re-blending the product out.

The cons are very limited and can be improved if you want to make it work. I found it caked a little on the side of my nose and around my lips, but with 2 drops of water I was able to smooth it out without any hassle.

I honestly think those who didn't like this should give it another go with a very moisturised face and be willing to improvise rather than expect perfection within seconds. I also notice how it doesn't completely cover my redness, but it actually makes me look radiantly flushed rather than sunburnt.

Wow I'm surprised at the bad reviews of this product! I have very dry skin on most of my face but oily skin on my forehead, and I love this, especially the ingredients. The price is fantastic too for what it is.

It comes in a great range of shades, though unfortunately not enough darker shades, and leaves a great finish that's not matte but not shiny or greasy either. I usually don't even bother with powder with this foundation.

It is a bit difficult to blend though - you have to moisturize very well before, and use only a little product. I usually start from the centre of my face and blend it out - I also spray a little MAC fix plus or some kind of toner over it while I'm blending and that creates a very natural finish.

The coverage is light-medium, and you can build it up a bit.

I also think this foundation is better used with some kind of foundation brush rather than fingers - I normally use my big circular louise young brush. A buffing or stippling brush would also work well.
