I just got this today and I have already started playing around with colors underneath this lipglass. On it's own I think it's a great Halloween or goth color. I do like to dress goth sometimes so it will work well for me. I used some red lipstick underneath it and WOW. With my bright red it created a very dramatic dark red lip with a tint of purple. It looks great with my pale skin. I need to find more lipsticks to play around with this but the red looks sooo cool.
This was my first MAC purchase. I don't have any stores near me so I had to order online and it cost me around 30 dollars Canadian. It was a bit of a spending spree for myself on just a lipglass but I think it is worth it.

sigh.
So, when I first composed my shopping list for VV, it did NOT include this lipglass. I figured it was too trendy and too weird of a color for someone like me to pull off, someone who (a) is incredibly fair (b) has no natural lip pigmentation and (c) is a little colorshy.
As many others have mentioned, I changed my mind when I saw Temptalia's swatches, and although I'm usually pretty good at picking out the colors that would actually complement my coloring (she's far darker and warmer than me, with more pigmented lips), I totally misjudged and figured Wrong Spell would be an interesting addition to my collection.
Well, Wrong Spell shows up on my lips as a blackened purple with practically NO shimmer. It doesn't remotely have that burgundy/berry tint you see on Temptalia's lip swatch, which I can only guess is her own lip color showing through (plus the flash of the camera to highlight all that shimmer).
At any rate, blackened purple on my lips is not really my cup of tea, but even if I were to try rocking a lip color so dark, the application is a nightmare: the lipglass itself is streaky and clumpy, so in between the spots of opaque color I have a sheer mess that -- in all seriousness -- looks like dirt on my lips. =/ Mixing with other lip products -- including MLBB-type shades for a rosey oomph as you see in Temptalia's swatches as well as dark, vampy colors for depth -- haven't yielded better results.
All in all, I'm really disappointed by this purchase, and I'm kicking myself for not having listened to my instincts. But even given my disappointment about the color, I don't think the formula is comparable to other lipglasses, hence the low rating. I will probably keep trying to find a use for this lipglass, just to not waste the investment, but I suspect this will be the one that sits in my drawer for years to come...

This has to be the absolute WORST lipglass I have ever bought. Shame on MAC for releasing this one. I always love every MAC product I buy, but this one is just awful. Its so pretty in the tube, but once its on, it's an uneven, smeary mess that bleeds all over the place. Never have I had a lip gloss actually separate ON MY LIPS before. And by separate I mean that the pigment separates from the gloss & migrates to the outer edges of my lips to form an O that looks like I smeared dirt on my mouth. Horrible. This is going back first thing tomorrow morning.

this gloss is purple. No real undertone other than dark brown or chocolate but it's great for fall. Beware that it is bold! You gotta have confidence to wear this but it's so pretty...try it you might like it, I do :)

I really wanted to love this product and from the swatches on Temptalia I thought I would. On her it looked like a warm burnt plum with gold shimmer.
On me (NC 20) It looked like I washed my lips in dirty ashtray water, there is no other way to describe this color. I thought I could use this to tone down a bright fuchsia lip or something, tried it out..know what it looked like. Like I put on a fuchsia lip and then wiped my lips inside a dirty ash tray. I have never, NEVER returned a MAC product. I can always make it work somehow. Ladies and gents, this one is going back.
My recommendation, swatch before you buy this product (and then wait 6 months for it to show in a CCO, cause trust me, this is going to be a $10 bargain buy come next summer)

**Background note about me: Every once in a while I have been known to form a completely irrational yet insatiable desire for a cosmetic or clothing item that is completely wrong for me. I see it on someone else (who looks nothing like me) and HAVE to have it. Since it only happens very rarely I usually indulge, even if it's just to get rid of the craving.**
When I saw this on Temptalia (skin and lip swatch), I fell in love. Brown base and pink sparkles morphing into a vampy yet fun blackened burgundy...so strange! So unique! So wrong! The effect on T was dramatic and glam without a hint of emo/goth. Of course, the same could not be said for this ghostly blond NW5, so unless I wanted to revive my angry teenage punk years this color was destined for stash oblivion.
But the strangest thing happened when I tried to sheer it out (it is quite thick, as other reviewers have mentioned. As such, it is one of the few times I've preferred a doe-tip wand rather than brush applicator--it applies more thinly). I had applied it lightly and tried to soften it with some of my MAC Fuchsia Fix TLC...and it turned the most beautiful shade of greige! I've been happily wearing it like that ever since!
So this probably isn't remotely useful for anyone else, but I'm just so delighted that my crazy impulse purchase actually worked out, so I had to share. I think on darker skintones this will work as is (especially if you have pigmented lips). And even for paler folk, it can add drama to a dark lipstick base (a mid to deep plum, berry or red). It may not work straight out of the tube; so best for those who like to blend and play around with their makeup. :)

Fun, fun fall shade. This lipglass is pure purple--dark purple. No red. No pink. I have a caramel skin tone (all my foundation always end up having a caramel or honey description) and this shade worked great with my skin tone. Definitely a shade for a night out. Don't plan on wearing this to work.
Like others, I'm not giving it a five because it is pretty chunky. You must use some type of clear balm to get it to go on smoothly.
Also, if you are darker skinned you may want to give the lipglass a good base to show off its great color. I either line and fill my lips with MAC "currant" lipliner or line my lips with currant and put on a lipstick I own that is comparable to one of the MAC venomous lipsticks. Then I blot before applying this fun lipglass.

Wrong spell is a shimmery chocolatey purple. It reminds me of a glammed up Shockolate lip glass. Great shade for deep skinned ladies and great for the fall. My only complaint it is hard to apply evenly. Other than that its a beautiful color.

This is really really dark pigmented lip gloss. It doesnt go on really smooth so you have to make sure you blend it well. Overall though it looks absolutely amazing over "Goes and Goes" pro longwear lipstick. It gives it an amazing dark purple colour. I can see this being an great colour gloss to darken and tone down the brightness of many colours. The only reason why i didn't give it 5 lips is because of the consistency. Just a little extra effort to blend.

For reference I am between an NC15 and NC20 with very light lip pigmentation. This is a blackened cooler toned plum on me, no orange or red. It's almost like a purpley charcoal. I'm guessing its my pale lips that are keeping this from turning brown because I've seen temptalias pics and her swatch looks brown, but i'm not seeing brown on me. Anyway, Great pigmentation and when sheered out it gives me a similar look to Tux Deluxe lipglass if anyone remembers that (sheer black). Definitely not for everyone but I like it. I won't be wearing it to work......but I like it :-)
