LM Sequin shadows don't get much love on MUA, and it's easy for me to see why. They're tough to work with, and Violetta is no exception.
I've had this for a while and it sat in my m/u drawer, unused, for quite a while. I didn't like how there was little color and lots of glittery fallout. It was nothing like the cool, sparkly violet that I was expecting.
After a few months, I decided to experiment with my LM Sequin shadows (I have Tiger Eye as well) and dipped my dense e/s brush into Trish McEvoy Finish Line before packing on Violetta. To my surprise and amazement, there was the amazing violet that I'd hoped for. It was simply gorgeous, with lots of shimmer and sparkle and good color pigmentation.
What irks me is that these were really not designed to be used wet, but that seems to be the only way to use them. If you have Violetta and you want the color that's in the pan, wet your brush and pack on the color; otherwise this is a purpleish glittery mess.

This is an amazingly disappointing purchase. I thought it was gorgeous when i tried this and the Peacock one at a counter and decided to go for it an an impulse buy. Big mistake!
-A lot of sparkly fallout, which stays on my face.
-Sparkle factor is over the top (might be nice for New Years's or something).
-When I finally do build the colour, it looks garish and tacky, and it's more like disco purple blue, nothing like the translucent dreamy wash of colour I was after and thought I would get from this sheer texture.

I'm on the fence with this one. Laura Mercier released a new texture of eye shadows called Sequin in her Mystique collection so I was super thrilled to purchase Violetta since Sequin was supposed to be more edgy and adventurous than her other eyeshadows. Well let's just say I didn't feel it was edgy enough and could definitely be more pigmented. The color is beautiful, a somewhat vibrant purple with embedded sparkle but it goes on really sheer. I really have to swipe my brush more than several times to get the impact I want which is not over the top at all. It definitely doesn't swatch with how deep and rich it looks in the pan. The sparkle is nice though and I know this is a tad step in the edgy direction for Laura Mercier but I guess I was just expecting more punch. Overall quality is wonderful leaving no fall out and all day wear so maybe down the road it will just eventually win my heart.
