this is terrible! had a sample from the body shop and used it after 2 months. when i peeled open the sample, the "butter" was already all chalky and white. i can't apply it to my hair!!! ok, so i tried to and there was no difference to my hair AT ALL. plus, the smell was just strange. sure, the sample was 2 months old, but i dun think hair butter is a product that expires in a matter of months right?!

Although the instructions on the actual product says that you must use it like a conditioner (after shampoo, then rinse it out), the sales associate at the Body Shop told me that it is actually a leave in product. I personally found it very nice! My hair felt light and bouncy afterwards. I have a combination of oily hair near my roots and dry hair at the bottom and this product was fantastic!

I think this product has too much olive oil or something, as it just leaves my hair greasy and heavy. It's not so bad if I only use a little bit on the tips of my hair and wash it out quickly, but how fun is that? Avoid!

First of all, the directions in small print on the bottom of my jar say to put this on towel-dried hair and leave it in. It doesn't say that it is a conditioner, so I'm not sure why so many people assume that it is. It says "Hair Butter" on it, and it seems way thicker than even deep conditioners to me. So anyways, I apply about a nickel-size amount to my medium/long, dry hair and it makes it shiny and detangled! I also think that it smells AMAZING and the smell lasts in my hair. I think it is a great price also, since you are getting so much product.

I don't have a great track record with conditioners, but I have to say I'm suprised by all the negative reviews. Its not slippery at all so it does feel different than most conditioners, but a lot of that 'slip' comes from chemicals that don't necessarily do anything for your hair. I don't find it to work better or worse than any other product I've used and the fact that it's a little more natural and doesn't have paraben or sillicones in it gives it a boost over the competition IMO.
I like the smell, in the shower it's a little strong and kind of air freshener-y, but once it's rinsed out it's really nice and reminds me of something I can't quite place. I would buy again but not at full price, which is easy as the body shop does lots of BOGO deals and promos.

the first time i used this product i loved it. however, after using it a few times i've noticed that my hair has started to become waxxy, i don't know if this is a common problem with the product but i like to use a lot of conditioner to make my hair soft and shiny, however i found that you use too much of this product and no matter how much you wash it out, there is always a waxxy, greasy feel to your hair.
the smell isn't that great and it's way to overpriced for the quality of the product.
the packaging is also quite ugly and bland.
i would not use this product again and nor would i recommend it to anyone.
one good thing, however, is that it is a good de-tangler and after using it I found that it was easier to brush through my hair, as it's quite thick it needs a lot of attention when washing so that it's not knotty when i dry it.

UGH. This is absolutely TERRIBLE. By far the worst product I have ever used on my hair. It does nothing for moisture, and when you rinse it out, it feels like you just shampooed. It actually leaves my hair feeling worse than before. It never rinses out, so the buildup dulls your hair. I can't stand the smell. It runs out in a single use if you have long hair like me, and it just.. ugh. I HATE it.

i was very skeptical about the reviews since the ingredients in this hair butter are soo good and got a sample anyway. well you better trust the reviews!
the smell is quite pleasant, but thats the only good thing i can say about this hair butter. not only does it not moisturize at all, it totally dried my hair out. i have strait asian hair, i have never had problems with my hair frizzing or tangling, but after using this hair butter i could not comb trough my hair properly! my hair was dry like crazy. seriously, i have never tried a conditioner this bad! so disappointed, i really really wanted to like this product. beware! get a sample if you can!

Here is the thing about this hair butter, the instructions for use are completely wrong!
Here is how you use this product and you will like it if you try it this way:
Wash and condition your hair with your usual products, after you towel dry your hair take a hazelnut sized portion, rub your hands together and rub it through your hair. Leave it in.
Your hair will be shiny and silky the rest of the day.
Use it a couple times a week.
I used it the way the instructions tell you too and I HATED THIS STUFF!!! Try it my way :)

I am super surprised by the really low ratings on this product. I think this is probably one of the worst rated products I have ever seen on MUA and I'm really surprised because I actually really enjoy using this stuff!
To start with, my hair is falls to my mid back (so is on the long side), thin and curly. It tend to have an oily scalp and my ends are on the dry side. I try and shampoo my hair every second day as washing too much drys my ends out even more, but it is difficult to get the right balance, so I would say I wash my hair anywhere between 3-5 days a week. With this butter, I have been using it once a week as a substitute for my usual conditioner to give my hair an extra kick of moisture, and it delivers very well. As my scalp is on the oily side, I just use it on my mid lengths and ends, and it leaves my curls perfectly formed and frizz free, soft and easy to comb through.
I generally shampoo my hair and then apply this after, with no other conditioner. I only have to use the tiniest bit (I dip the tip of my finger in the pot and take whatever comes onto it - usually around two or three pea sizes) and rub it onto my wet palms as the water gives me a bit more spread ability. The consistency is thick but the water helps with the spreading. I think with this product less is more, as it is very rich. I let it sit in my hair while I go about my daily shower routine - leg shaving, face washing, etc - and give my hair a thorough rinse at the end.
My only qualm is that the pot is a bit awkward to work with in the shower, but I can live with that as I enjoy the results. I will definitely buy more when I run out, but I think it will take me a while before I do as I have barely used any of the stuff in my pot! Love it.

This stuff is rubbish, and the only good thing I can say about it is that compared to the shampoos and conditioners in the same Rainforest range, the packaging is a lot easier to deal with.

I don't know what is wrong with this stuff! It didn't moisturize my hair and left it feeling odd--sticky? the opposite of slippery is the best way to describe it. SO SO SO SO SO difficult to detangle my hair afterward. I'm pretty sure I ended up ripping out half the hair on my head just attempting to get this stuff out. Even when my hair dried, it felt so odd and I was unable to do my hair at all, since something as simple as running a brush through my hair felt as though it would result in bald patches. Will never ever buy again.

I absolutely LOVE this product. I use it every day as my regular conditioner. It detangles my hair instantly. I have a curly hair - even more curly since using this with the Rainforest Moisture Shampoo. Curly hair can be a major pain to detangle. My showers used to last at least 5 minutes longer just from the detangling, now it's just put it in leave it in while I soap up and shave my legs and rinse out. Fantastic product. I love the scent, too. I really don't know what the bad reviews are all about.

I love, love LOVE this divine hair butter! Bought it recently at a Body Shop at Home party and was super excited to try it out! I was disappointed to see so many negative reviews for this product, but thought I'd try it out for myself when it arrived and reserve my judgement for then.
Let me tell you...it is lovely!! It says on the packaging to use 2 hazelnut sized amounts...to be honest, I think you can get away with about half of that if you have mid-length hair like mine. I have fine hair, but a lot of it and am prone to greasy roots and dry ends. As this product is a thick butter then I avoided putting it anywhere near my roots as I knew this would just result in making my roots oily, so I applied it from about ear-level down to the ends, concentrating on my dry tips.
The smell is lovely...very alike the old Body Shop honey shampoo & conditioners which I believe are now discontinued. My hair has been lovely and soft and shiny and not in any way greasy.
Im really not sure why this product has so many bad reviews...I think this will make your hair lank and greasy if you put too much on, but if you put on a small blob then you should be fine! If anyone is prone to products weighing down the hair then it's me with my fine hair, and I did NOT experience this with this product at all.
100% recommendation from me for this baby and I will repurchase this again, although not for a while I suppose as seeing as you need to use so little product, this tub will last me ages! :)

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. I really wish i had come on here before purchasing. I have very dry and damaged hair from highlighting and straightening. I use Joico, Bed Head and Kerastase repair masks but didnt want to overload on protein so thought I;d buy a moisturising hair mask - this one looked natural and smelled quite nice. i put it in my hair for 4 hours one afternoon I was off work. I shampooed throughly with the Rainforest Shampoo and put a little regular conditioner in it.
My hair was even drier and even more broken looking. It looked like a hay bale. This product is just terrible - waste of money - it not that expensive but in my opinion is not good value for money. If you have hair thats already in good condition this might work but its not for damaged hair.

I received this hair butter in a small sample with a purchase and was really excited to try it since I had been contemplating buying it. It has a lovely buttery consistency and it smells absolutely delish! It also left my hair nice and soft, so basically it did do its job. However I can't justify paying the price for a full size tub, since it's not anything out of the ordinary. I think you can find amazing hair masks at the drugstore for a fraction of the price.

PROS:
-pleasant fragrance (though many disagree apparently so best if you went to smell for yourself)
-don't need to use much product (The Body Shop website says to use just two hazelnut-sized globs, but I use a bit less and I can manage to cover all of my hair)
-hair feels soft and smooth after
-hair not as tangled (and my hair tangles SO easily)
CONS:
-in a tub instead of pump/tube/some other container which makes the entire thing exposed in the shower when applying so I have to look out for water splashing in
-effect doesn't last as long as I hoped (The Body Shop recommends to do it once a week but I do it every 4 or 5 days) Since this is a treatment rather than a daily conditioner, you would think you wouldn't need to put it on as regularly
Overall I do enjoy the product. I hardly do anything to my hair though (no color, no hot tools, I don't even blowdry) so I got it mainly to make my tangle-prone hair less tangled. If you have more dried out hair from styling, I don't know how much this would improve your tresses. They do come in two sizes so best bet is to try out the smaller size and if it works, get the bigger one, if it doesn't, well you didn't spend a fortune on it so it's all good :)

I wish I had read these (negative) reviews because they are SPOT ON! Awful, awful, awful product - everything about it! Left my hair a tangled, dry, brittle mess. You know it's bad when you take your hair out of the towel to start brushing, and it's already 85% dry on it's own. This has got to be in my Top 10 list of all time worse products, EVER!
