A good friend of me wore ananya in high school and I loved it on her! So I bought the perfume oil.
On me it's a whole different story though. I find it too heady, too flowery- musky, too much tuberose, too much peach and musk. It's not fresh or delicate or modern. Pure '90's! I appreciate classic scents but it's not classic, it's dated.
Lasting power is exceptional, though!

It kind of gave me a headache if I accidentally put on too much (meaning I had to make sure to only do one small spritz, not one big one!) but I loved it! It was lush, intense, heady stuff.

Ananya smells very exotic and sophisticated. The thing is the scent morphs a lot. Like at times, it smells very beautiful, floral, and clean, but then other times, it smells too coyly sweet and just too oriental. It does last all day, which is a good thing. It smells good on my wrists, but not so much on my neck. Maybe this is the kind of scent that smells better when it is very faint. I do like the concept of perfume oil over regular perfume because you don't have to deal with spraying it and there isn't alcohol so the scent pretty much smells like the scent in the bottle without having to wait for the scent to die down to see what it will really smell like. I'm thinking that maybe Ananya just doesn't really work with my body chemistry.

I love perfume oils. First of all, a little bottle of 30 ml or so lasts you ages (usually about six months in my case). Secondly, there's no breathing in of the perfume when applying, unlike EDTs. And thirdly, the scent lasts throughout the day. So, with that said...
I usually like a bit of heavier perfumes (TBS Vanilla Perfume Oil is a favourite). Though the problem with many heavier perfumes is that they can smell a bit...dusty if that makes sense. I wanted something a bit fresher. Ananya is a wonderful scent in that respect. It manages to be both a heavy and a fresh scent all at once. There's a decidedly green tone to the scent, like leaves that you have crushed between your fingers. But then there's the smell of exotic fruits and flowers too. It is a scent that has to be experienced.
I do wish Body Shop would consider reintroducing the dropper caps they once had when I was a small child since the sticks are just a plain nuisance. I never use them, since I figure bacteria will go onto them anyhow and so I would rather use my finger for a less messy and more accurate application.
To summarise: If you like the scent this is absolutely one of the best choices you can make for everyday use. Though I will probably not repurchase, since one bottle lasts me so long and there is always a new scent I want to try.

Loved this in my 20s until a cabbie told me how much he loved my perfume because it reminded him of his...grandmother. That just lodged in my head forever. I'll still smell it in the shops though for an instant timewarp to '93.

I have been wearing this scent since I was 16 and 14 years later, it can still do no wrong. DUDES LOVE THIS SCENT. It lasts forever and gets you noticed. That is what I wear fragrance for. What more can I say?
Age: 30-35 Skin: Combination, Fair-Medium Hair: Brunette Eyes: Green
total headache scent for me, but it smells nice on some people.
Age: 36-43 Skin: Normal, Fair-Medium Hair: Red Eyes: Green
Been using this fragrance for years and years, My sister first introduced me to it and I sort of stole it from her! I love it! It's a scent that you won't find a lot of women wearing. Which makes it nice because it's not your typical common fragrance and makes you unique! I get lots and lots of compliments on it, especially from men. Just a warning tho..use sparingly. A little goes a looong way and if you use too much, it can tend to be overpowering and give one a headache!

this is my signature scent... and has been since i tried it out some 10-11 years ago.. the first time i tried it i bought the "whispers of ananya" EDT and then the body shop discontinued it... then they brought it back as just plain Ananya EDT, then they discontinued that one... then brought it back as a perfume oil lol...
i wish they still had the EDT but in some ways the oil is better as it has more staying power.... i love to put it on right after i shower at nights and when i wake up in the morning the scent is still strongly present... for some reason it really agrees with my body chemistry and doesnt smell the same on others.....
everytime i wear it i get at least 5-6 people asking me what im wearing and telling me how good it smells... the only con for this product is the applicator... if you use that to apply it on your skin youll get dust and lint all over it and itll get all in the oil... other than that i have no complaints...
love this scent

I adore this oil, it's so deep, floral and earthy, something an earth goddess would wear =) And it lasts, and last and last, until you wash it off. Mix it with a bit of TBS Patchouli!

Oh the memories. I purchased this for the first time years ago in high school. One year around the holidays I decided to make some soaps with this oil. I used it all up and then TBS discontinued it. Then they brought it back! I just bought a fresh bottle the other day and it smells so good! It doesn't really smell like any other floral fragrance I have smelled before. It is unique. Would buy again.
*Update: Wow, why does TBS discontinue such great scents and then bring them back smelling very weak?! It's just not the same.

LOVE this fragrance! Very heady floral/musky scent that lingers for AGES.....just a small dab is all you need.

This is a deceptive scent indeed. Thank goodness the description in TBS shops warns you that it is 'Lush, Intense and Floral'. This is deceptively fruity at first and you would think that this is Dewberry with slightly more punch, But give it 5 minutes and it morphs into a full-bodied floral. Head notes: Bergamot [for the initial burst of freshness], Peach, Melon [adds to the fruity first impression], Coconut, Violet. Heart Notes: Jasmine, Rose [the king and queen of flowers respectively for a heady experience], Freesia, Tuberose [someone once commented that Tuberose is the 'Lolita of the fragrance world'], Ylang Ylang [sensual and ultra-feminine]. Base Notes: Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Vanilla and Musk. For women who love lush fruity-florals, this is highly recommended. Now I know why when Dewberry was all the rage amongst 12 year-olds when I was growing up in the early 90s, I always reached for Ananya.

Definately not a wallflower, this perfume is ultra sexy, feminine, and womanly. A full bodied floral, and rich in depth. I adore it!
Now that I smell it, I smell the revlon outrageous shampoo as well. I LOVED THAT SMELL! So glad I bought this oil. My little bottle of the oil was fresh, so try to find a newer bottle.
Fragrance Notes: Top Notes: Bergamot, Peach, Melon, Coconut, and Violet. Heart Notes: Jasmine, Rose, Freesia, Tuberose, and Ylang Ylang. Base Notes: Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Vanilla, and Musk.
It really is a fabulous fragrance, and you can wear it anywhere. Edit: had to take a lippie off for this rediculous applicator stick, it fell out and I had to try to twist it back into the cap. Update for 5/22/10.
I'm so sad that I think this is discontinued. Maybe the economy has made sales go down, or Ananya was a signature for few women. It can fool some people into thinking it's too strong or too heavy, but after 10 minutes it melts into your skin and smells amazing. I wish they would at least bring it back limited edition once a year. Maybe do a retro scents collection. Since the Body Shop founder passed away I've wondered what will happen to the company...

I went to B.S to try a few oil perfume and i bought ananya. i didn't intend to buy this much intense floral scent but it reminds me of estee lauder's . it wasn't my the most favorite, but still takes a lot of space in my scent memoria.
it's not sutle scent, but when worn in right amount, it makes me feel very pretty and feminine. a lot of dab can cause headache just like did it to me.
it is estee lauder's beautiful in oil version to me.
for this price, it's got very impressive lasting quality. if you put too much, you'll spend whole day wondering if you could have shower to rid of it.

The applicator wasn't very practical but I loved the scent and the fact that it contained no alcohol(very abrasive).

I really don't like fruity scent. This is what it smell like on me. It's too sickening sweet as well an intense scent. Intense sweetness, it's oriental alright. Gosh. I wish i hadn't got it. Now i know why this is the 90s scent. I do remember adults around me in 90s wore pretty heavy stuff. This certainly make me remember them. Plain headache when putting this on. But since i brought it without trying, was in a hurry, i got to force myself to finish up this or gave to my mum. Definitely won't repurchase. Smell similar to dewberry too. Another sickeningly sweet scent on and to me. Update: Ok it was still sweet but not as sickeningly now. Infact i'm wearing it now. It's flowery now but light, probably the limited usage make it beautiful, like one of the reviewer mention and i guess i grew to like it. Gosh! First impression of fragrance is not meant to be written for review. I regret been hasty. But still, i won't repurchase it, unlike Cassis Rose. I like this but not enough to. Up a few lippies too:)

i LOVE ananya! it makes me so sad an EDT is no longer sold anywhere in the US. I don't travel abroad enough to stock up, and last time i was in GB, they told me it was discontinued there as well! now i wear the body oil, and it just doesn't have the same effect as the EDT.
this scent is very sweet, but it does have an interesting backnote to it that makes it a little exotic. i have weird skin when a perfume fully develops, so i am really picky about what i wear. if i wear anything with a hint of patchouli, bergamont, or other heedy frangrances, i smell like "grandma" and get really nauseated. ananya is too light to even consider doing that, but will still last all day. i love it! if i could find the EDT, i would no longer be searching for my signature scent.
if anyone knows how i can find an EDT, i would appreciate the heads up!

Wow! The nostalgia of these comments is blowing my mind. It's been YEARS since I've worn Ananya, and it's one of the few perfumes(if not the only one) that I can remember EXACTLY what it smells like - and the Revlon Outrageous shampoo! You're killing me! Someone I know swears it was Ananya that made her husband propose. Yes, I agree, a big 90's scent - -but so, so good. And where did Outrageous go, anyways?
