I had first seen this color online and knew immediately that I had to own it. I didn't want to buy it online for fear of the color not being what the photos looked like, but when they started selling Deborah Lippmann polishes at Ulta, I knew I had to check them out. Of course I was weary about the $19 price tag, but I figured, I've spent way more on way less, so what the hell. After buying it, I couldn't wait to try it. The polish is very thin and it took at least 3 layers to get the result I was looking for. The color itself is beautiful. It's a shimmery royal blue with small teal and green circular flecks. The polish has lasted a full work week (with the help of Seche Vite top and base coats). Although the price of it is a little pricey, I absolutely love the color and can't wait to buy more.

I know I'm in the minority when I say this was one of the ugliest polishes I've ever worn in my life. But it really was. Across the Universe is a sheer dark teal with lots and lots of big glitter. The idea is to layer it on for "depth". That's what makes it so special, allegedly. After 3 carefully applied coats, it just looked like chunks of glitter drowning in murk. Glitter is supposed to be pretty! Not submerged under a coat of gross, ugly blue-green jelly. I really hated this one.

This was my first DL glitter polish purchase and I couldn't be more pleased. Across the Universe is a lovely deep midnight blue gel base with teal, green and blue glitter pieces suspended throughout. Such a unique shade. It applies easily and smoothly. It's opaque in 3 coats. If you're looking for a unique shade with a quality formula this is it. I love how fun, yet wearable it is. DL really makes the best quality glitter polishes on the market. I'm a cream, no frills kind of girl, but I have no qualms about rocking this polish at all. Love it! Very highly recommend.

This is a really fun nail polish. Since I work in a conservative environment, I use this on my toes or when I am on vacation. It is a bit of a challenge to get smooth because of the large glitter pieces, but it is worth the effort. I am a big fan of Deborah Lippmann polishes.

One of the prettiest polishes ever! I think the formula is great, very thin so the final result is never a thick goopy mess. I also was very impressed at how easy it was to remove compared to other glitters, I guess that's why I don't mind the pricetag on glittery Lippmanns. Also have to note it's a bit sheer, 3 coats for me are usually good. I'd rebuy and recommend the color!

I love the look of this nail polish, I think it is one of the most beautiful polishes I own, but I always dread putting it on because it takes forever to get off. Especially if you paint on enough layers to make it semi-opaque. I've tried using it on top of darker opaque shades, but it just doesn't look as good as when you layer it on it's own.

You need patience, dedication and many coats (!) to work successfully with this product given its (i) glitter content and (ii) sheerness of pigment.
Having said that, if you can get over these hurdles the end result will be a unique colour and appearance. Works well as one coat applied over other strongly pigmented polishes.
Finally, be prepared for problems with glitter migration and obstinacy, when it comes to attempts at product removal!

Hi My name is Merrie and I'm over 40 and like glitter and sparkley stuff. (HI MERRIE)
Anyway.. I bought this today and ran home and put it on my nails. This is my first Lippmann polish and I'd avoided buying it because it looked like hobby glitter. I thought it would go on super chunky and feel course and gross like other glitter polishes I'd tried in the past from other companies. But nope!
This went on a little goopy But I was bound and determined to get this on my nails. So I strapped on my little helmet and went to work. I used Essie 3-way bottom coat and Seche for the top coat. I had no problems lining up hexagons or any of that.. there are TONS of glitter in this. It's beautiful. It's not the best nail job I've given myself because it is slightly goopy but it's so pretty and I only needed 1 top coat. I keep staring at my nails. This polish has depth. The green and blue glitter seems to swim in the navy gel. To my eye it's even similiar to the Nfu Oh Flakes sorta but even prettier (which I didn't think was possible) because the depth of the shine on the flakes that are sunk into the navy gel is amazing. It almost looks like a dark blue pool of water with fairies floating in it. I can't testify to chips, wear time etc and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be super annoyed removing it because glitter is the devil to remove but wow.. so pretty! I bought Bad Romance and will try that next. I then ran and ordered Happy Birthday, Candy Shop and Forget You in the Party til you Drop pack. I'm a Lippmann lover :)

A navy blue jelly with a mix of teal and blue hex glitter, with a light sprinkle of small blue glitter. The base is pigmented (or rather, dark) enough to be more or less opaque in three coats, but what really counts is that it's sheer enough to reveal the layers of glitter underneath it. The effect reminds me of seeing sparkling gemstones in deep blue water and it's simply gorgeous.
This isn't the easiest polish to apply, however. DL brushes are definitely small, which allows for precision work, but not exactly a quick 3-stroke application process. I generally find myself pushing the larger pieces of glitter around to get an even distribution while the polish is still wet. Also, I highly recommend waiting for each coat to dry before you apply the next one, otherwise you might end up lifting the glitter and smudging the jelly base around, leaving bald spots.
Even though it's not a "beginner's" polish in terms of application, if I had to pick a DL polish to recommend to friends, this would be it without a doubt. It's an incredibly sophisticated glitter that manages to draw adoring stares without relying on overwhelming sparkle.

Again I have to say as I said with DL GITA, I was super excited to get this nail polish but oh so disappointed when I tried it. I am just not a big fan of DL for the formula, wear or look of her polishes. I am just sorry it took me 64 dollars to determine buying DL was a mistake I won't make again

Gorgeous, because of the jelly polish base and the way it layers, each nail becomes a deep sea glitter-fest that seems to swim in and out of view at different angles. I've never owned anything like this before in my 31 years, and it dries far more consistently that I expected. 4 layers with a good base and a nice thick topcoat make this really shine.

I really love the color! It's a dark navy blue with lots of differnt glitters and sparkels....very unique color. Only down side, it takes me HELLA lots of time to get it off :( I hope I could find some magic potion that can easily take this off, then I will give it a 5-lippie :)

I absolutely adore this polish. I typically would never spend more that $8-10 max on a bottle of nail polish but I had a gift certificate and thought 'why not?' This is a gorgeous navy color with different shaped/sized glitter in green and blue tones throughout. Super eye catching! My job typically results in my nail polish chipping within a day or two, however it is still going strong on day 5 (with a Revlon top coat). It was $18 USD and I am definitely going to repurchase once I run out.

Its a gorgeous color, in fact I'd love to own the navy jelly base on its own. The glitter and shimmer all combine to create an incredibly complex color. I get more compliments with AtU than I do with any other color. I've tried layering with it a little, and I find that I get much nicer results with 2-3 coats of AtU than I do layering it over a navy or dark green. I think all the glitter and sparkle building on earlier layers is what makes this polish special.

Wow, absolutely gorgeous polish! Looks amazing both in the bottle & on your nails (which isn't always the case, sadly). I applied 2 coats with nothing underneath and it looks perfect. I imagine it would also look nice overtop a complimentary colour. A little pricey ($22 CAD) but it's so pretty I would definitely repurchase.

Total splurge, luckily I swooped up an e-deal for $20 for $40 for beauty bar. So, in reality the polish only cost me about $10 per pop. I've had to play around with this polish for the desired results. The color actually builds up rather quickly and does not require a pigmented undercoat. Once
you are able to achieve your desired results, you will not want to stop
staring at your nails. The effect is super pretty! But seeing the retail cost, I'd rather just stock up on a bunch of cheaper nail polish.

This nail polish is pretty smooth considering its a glitter polish. The finished product is not rough unlike other brands. So you would only need to apply one top coat.
Color is beautiful! Blue and Green Glitter and Sparkles. This is not your typical glitter polish with a clear base. It is a solid blue polish with blend of different glitter giving you and Granite finish.
I would say it looks almost like a pretty granite kitchen counter top with some sparkles.
I receive many compliments and have been asked if my nails were gel. With different lighting it will appear brighter or darker yet still sparkles nicely. It looks better with longer nails but it does take a lot of nail polish romover to clean it off since your are using a glitter polish. I would reccommend double base coat to help you out later when you decide to romove the polish. There are more pretty colors availble.
A bit pricey but I did go back and bought 3 other colors because I love the finished look. Totally worth it!

This is definitely one of the prettiest polishes I own. It's a bluish green sheer jelly base with large hexagonal and tiny round green and silver glitters. It reminds me more of mermaids and shallow waters with corals and seaweed than the universe though.
The formula wasn't particularly outstanding but it was definitely not difficult to apply. The base was smooth but the large glitter pieces were a pain in the ass to get into place. You need to pay special attention to make sure that areas near the cuticles were covered, and that there weren't glitter pieces hanging off the edge of your nail. Other than that, it's very easy to apply this polish. Not too thick and not too thin. Number of coats to apply is up to you. This polish looks great sheer, but it also looks good if you want to apply like a gazillion layers till it's almost opaque (if you're not bothered by chunky thick nails).
Pretty pricey, but the bottle is pretty big and has quite a lot of product in it. The colour is also unique enough to warrant the price tag IMO. But if you're not in love with this colour, there are several other brands I've seen that have made colours quite close to this one that cost way less. I think Icing from Claire's has one like this, but with smaller glitter pieces.

Drop dead gorgeous. Wear over a dark polish to bring out the microglitter. I like mine over navy, but my friend swears that the black makes it show up clearer. Wearing ATU on its own uses too much product to achieve the same color as in the bottle. Will purchase despite the price because there is no other polish this pretty at a lower price point.
