I wanted to wait a month before I wrote a review on this product, but, I couldn't help myself I had to write a review earlier. I have combination, sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin. Most acne products make my skin dry out, very red, and in some cases break out more. spectro jel is gentle but effective. It's only been a week, but my skin has cleared up nicely so far, doesn't dry out my skin at all. So far, so good.

I have been using this stuff for years and it is pretty great. It is very gentle, non-drying and works very well as a makeup remover if you put it on dry and wipe off with a tissue. If you are expecting a deep cleaning, foaming soap-style cleanser this is not it. It is a gel that does not foam at all and it does take a good massage to really get into your skin. This is the trade-off for something so gentle and non-drying: sometimes it just doesn't give you that squeaky clean feeling that you want. But it is very good at balancing out combination skin and gentle enough for very sensitive skin. It is a very good deal for the amount of product that you get. The packaging is great on the larger bottles that come with the pump, and a little tricker on the smaller squeeze bottles as the product tends to dry up in the spout and then you have to squeeze/explode it out. It is unscented though it does have a distinct smell that some people might be put off by though I don't really mind it. Everyone with acne, combination, or very sensitive skin should give this a try!

I had tried Spectro on and off when I was a teenager and really didn't like it. I wanted a cleanser that was foamy, felt like it was getting down and deep cleaning my pores, drying out my acne and scrubbing it away. I wanted it to be medicinal and maybe even sting a little on my acne to 'feel' like it was working. I loved cleansers that left my skin feeling tight after, and I didn't want to use some 'gel' like solution that didn't feel like it did anything to my skin at all. For people who suffer from acne, I think we get so angry and frustrated with our skin we just want to aggressively scrub all the bad stuff off. I stripped my skin for years believing that was how to get rid of my acne. I didn't give my own skin enough credit to take care of itself and had no idea that what I was doing was probably just making the problem worse. It's no wonder my breakouts used to be so bad.
For the last couple years I have learned to be a little more gentle to my skin, but my cleansers still contained some harsh ingredients. When I ran out of face wash a couple weeks ago, I went to the store and decided to try something new. And what do ya know, Spectro was on sale! The cheap devil on my shoulder couldn't resist even though I knew how much a hated it in my teens. Well, long story short, I'm so glad I gave this another try. My skin has been so dry for so long and after using this it is so soft and moisturized. Even my red areas are not so noticeable and I think it's because I have greatly reduced all the irritation I have been subjecting my skin to. I've decided to put my faith back in my skin to do the work for me with out stripping its natural barrier everyday. No pimples since I've been using this, yay! I think the philosophy is working.
Also as a side note. One of the things I didn't like about Spectro is that I didn't feel it was removing my make up. A good tip I read from someone else was to massage it into your skin with out water and then wipe off all the make up with a tissue. Then go back in and clean with Spectro again as normal with water. It takes a little extra time but I only have to do it at night and because it's not messy at all, I can just remove my make up in front of the tv and then go wash my face when I'm ready. Hope this helps :)

The best cleanser I have ever used! (and believe me, I've tried many!) I believe what makes this cleanser so special is that it really does protect your skins moisture barrier. Preventing dryness prevents breakouts and leaves your skin glowing. Such a great product. I use this along with St. Ives facial exfoliator and my skin is the best its ever been, hardly ever get a pimple :)

So first off this is a good price for the quantity you get.
It was impossible to find any cleanser that could combat my acne, I was angry that I couldn't find a way.
I have used spectro in the past but I gave up within a week or two because if felt like nothing was happening but this time I really stuck to it after reading reviews and it was worth it!
I have only been using spectro for a month now and 95% of my acne is gone. If I do get breakouts they are tiny and go away quickly and I'm sure with prolonged use they will completely disappear. My skin feels so much better and I am more confident now! Its easier to go out with friends and not worry about my face.
You might not get drastic results fast but you really need to give spectro a chance. It really does work and my skin doesn't dry out at all. It seems like it does nothing when you use it but it really does help a lot! So don't let the fact that it doesn't take make up off well or foam like soap or smell super great put you off. Just get something else to get the makeup off then use spectro. Its the best product out there for fighting acne and I'm so glad I bought it.

alright, so this product is pretty good for combination skin ( which i have). the thing is that at first i thought it was working pretty well with my skin, but after a few weeks i felt as if it never actually "CLEANED" my skin in the morning; especially in the summer, with all that oil from the nights' sleep. you could use this in the winter, because you get drier skin then, but the best part of this cleanser is that it DOES NOT DRY OUT MY SKIN. amaaa-zing! also, i find that the "pump bottle" is better than the one that you have to squeeze to get the product*
pro:
- does not dry out
- no scent or harsh chemicals
- it's a gel ! it is meant for combination/ oil skin
con:
- you may feel as if it doesn't clean as much ( in the summer;) )

PROS
-Highly cost-effective
-Dermatologist recommended
-Free of “irritating ingredients”
-Does not dry out skin (hooray!)
CONS
-Gel can feel discomforting and gooey
-Only available in Canada
VERDICT
Spectro Jel is a good starter cleanser for any skin care regimen or for anyone wanting a cheaper and no-frills substitute. The product delivers medium effectiveness at a very attractive price range. In addition, I can testify that I’ve never experienced dryness or irritation from using Spectro Jel.
ADVICE
Get free samples from your dermatologist if you have one. Otherwise, start off with the smaller 200mL version available in grocery stores. The last thing you want to do is buy the large format only to find out it’s not for you. For greater cost savings, go with the 900mL version available only at Costco. For greater convenience, Well.ca offers the 500mL format for $11.91 with free shipping in Canada.

Its a good basic cleanser but after 2 years i felt it stopped working for me. Even after a 30 sec cleanse my face would still feel a little oily especially near the t-zone area. Also, i developed these white under skin pimples that never came to head unless i extract them. It didn't really help with acne either. Still a good cleanser for normal and dry skin though. Its cheap and you get a lot for the bottle. It never irritated or made my skin red but its just not right for me anymore. Cerave foaming wash has been a lot better since i switched.

Bottom line, give it time.
When we use many other commercial cleansers they strip your face of all oils good and bad that can cause signs of early aging...yuck!
When you use those harsh cleansers your skin will over compensate and often produce more oils and you'll feel the need wash more often. Also the feeling of dry tight skin can be associated with the feeling of being clean and it's really not the case you'll just have a face of drying chemicals. Aka benzoyl peroxide
I'm not saying all other face washes are bad but many just perpetuate the problem. No matter what you use the two most important things are...Balance meaning moisture and cleansing. And last but not least Routine...our skin is like a
Nickel cadmium battery. Charge it when it needs charging but not every chance you get or it will work like crap. Simple and consistent wins the clear skin race. Love this stuff, dare I say it changed my life.

Used to use this due to recommendation by my doctor for acne skin. I stopped using it when few years ago they changed the formula and made the product feel like I was applying rice porridge all over, and caused me painful acne (those large ones that really flare up and are painful and always leave acne marks behind). Also, with the "new"/current formula (well, not so new anymore) I found my skin really drying out after I rinsed it off with luke warm water. That is why I switched to using Cetaphil and have never looked back.
Spectro Jel may work for others but it has stopped working for me. It has a smooth gel like consistency with a slight scent that is not offensive (not sure what it is but it's definitely not floral and it's not chemical either). It doesn't foam, instead, it's like cleaning with a cream/lotion. Takes a while to rinse off product. Comes in 2 sizes, the small one is about 250ml (not 100% certain about the exact size but it's about that amount), and the large one comes in a bottle and it's about 500ml. When on sale I used to be able to get it for $9.99 CDN plus tax.

My dermatologist recommended Spectro jel when I asked what was a good cleanser that wouldnt cause breakouts. I use it day and night. When I first tried it out I was dissapointed because I had always used a foam cleanser that did a great job taking off my makeup and any excess oil that had built up on my face and when I used this my face just didnt feel clean... the makeup was still there. So I decided to invest in a makeup remover. I use bioderma to clean my makeup first and then this cleanser afterwards and that does the job. My skin doesnt feel stripped of all moister which is a good thing. I will continue to use this. If anyone is suffering from acne, the last part essential to my regime was drinking two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar (braggs with mother) in a large glass of water, morning and night. It cleanses the system.

I used this after it was recommended my my derm. At first I was skeptical about this product because the product does not lather well and I am not fan of the smell. However, this product works REALLY REALLY WELL!!! It was able to clean my skin without stripping all the oils and best of all I noticed that my skin became more clear after using it for 3 months. After seeing the results my brother started using this cleanser. Ladies do not hesitate to buy this product, its a big bottle that contains a lot of product and it has a pump so it very convenient =)

I have this cleanser in regular with eucalyptus scent. I got it because my doctor suggested it to go along with my prescription spot treatment(clindoxyl) it works pretty well for everyday use. I like the formula and the way it feels on my face, it's a pretty basic cleanser. However I don't feel that it gives a really deep clean it is more of a "maintenance" type cleanser I would stick to an exfoliating and deep clean routine once or twice a week and use this on the in-between days. It is not drying on my oily skin ecause it is a gel but if you have dry skin a creamier cleanser is better for you. Overall I like this product but haven't found my HG cleanser yet.

I used this for about 4 months, so 3 bottles. And I still haven't finished my 3rd one. This cleansed was originally good for me. I was using both BP and AHA, so it calmed my inflamed skin. It got rid of all the pesky little bumps left over from acne. But, it has silicone in it. I don't know much bout silicone, but I know its not good for your skin. And that it builds up eventually.
The smell was horrible at first, but I grew to get used to it. It didn't lather, but that was okay. However, I found that to cover my face I had to use a lot of product. So I went through bottles fast.
It's a no frills cleanser, and there really isn't anything special about it
Other than it didn't break me out. I will save the rest of the bottle for back up if I need it. Otherwise, I won't touch it.

This product made my skin kinda dry, but worked alright. Cleared up my skin a bit. It is gentle and feels okay. I won't use it again only because I have some better stuff that I use (Vichy and Avon Clearskin which I recommend).

I absolutely love this product, I have combination skin, can get pretty oily in the heat and I've been in a constant struggle with my skin for as long as I can remember. I have tried my fair share of skin cleansers from $5 to $30 and this one has helped my skin the most by far. A long time ago I picked it up on the shelf and I found it amazing, it's a gel consistency and I couldn't believe that it was actually doing anything but within days it helps my skin, it doesn't irritate or bother me in the slightest. the only thing I don't like about this is that it doesn't remove makeup but it isn't a makeup remover so who am I to complain? recently after getting pretty bad results from clinique and neostrata I picked this up again in my shower and within 4 days my skin has improved in my acne.
I don't have ridiculously bad acne but I do get some pimples and this helped them clear up completely in a matter of days.. I'm extremely impressed and glad it'll help my bank because I won't need to be spending so much on cleansers anymore because I remembered that this works so well. eventually I hope this will help the texture and oilyness. I also use the matching moisturizer which is really nice, and matches this spectro jel really well, if you like this product you should like that one too. tomorrow while at work (I work at shoppers drug mart in the cosmetic department incase that helps) I will be picking up more items to try by spectro jel.
I hope you try this and I hope it works for you like it did for me!

I absolutely adore this stuff. I have very tempermental acne-prone skin and have been on a quest to find the ‘perfect regime’ since I was about 13 (I’m now 29). First off, this will not remove your makeup and leave your face squeaky clean, so don’t expect it to. I use this only in the morning in the shower to remove any oil/dirt from my face but not strip any moisture. I use Benzoyl Peroxide in a thin layer every night with moisturizer on top, and so I need to soothe my skin in the morning while also cleansing – the stuff is the absolute best for that. In turn my skin, though still not perfect, has calmed down considerably and the dry flakey skin that can arise from regular BP use is no longer an issue. Also, on a side note, the moisturizer for blemish-prone skin is fantastic.

hate the smell, doesnt strip away any moisture, cant say it improves my skin its just a cleanser all its supposed to do is strip away dirt, good price but dont buy it at a drugstore its too expensive look out for it at discount warehouse stores often times its priced at what the small bottle retails for yet you get the size of the extra value. i'd buy it again cause its a basic cleanser but the tip of the dispenser always gets clogged up

I love this cleaner. It's just a nice, gentle, basic cleanser that doesn't strip the moisture in my skin and leaves it feeling clean and calm. I find that if you apply it to your skin dry and do the 30 second cleanse, then follow with a good wipe down with a washcloth, you're golden. I always come back to this. I love that it doesn't have sulfates, you don't need lather to get your skin clean. I use the one for blemish prone skin, unscented, since the regular one smells pretty unpleasant I find. I love this stuff. Keeps my skin healthy and happy and I will use this for a long time. When purchased at Walmart, the price is very reasonable and it lasts for months and months. Update: I strayed and tried Avene's cleansing gel and regretted it after it made me break out. Within 24 hours of switching back to Spectro Jel, my skin is calming down.
