Just about makes my eyes roll back in my head. Heady and masculine without being too busy. Contains iced mango and silver armoise whatever those are. "Iced mango" ??? Guess room temperature just wouldn't do. Anyway, I love this scent. I wish I could wear it.

I purchase this on a whim for my partner. In store at the time I thought this was nice, but as we all know in store we dont have the patience to let a fragrance dry down and actually reveal its scent, so whatever smell nice straight out of the bottle we assume the dry down must be nice.
Let me just say that this didnt smell horrible, but to me its just a boring men's frangrance, unlike the Polo Blue this had nothing unique and no attitude. My partner said this smells like cow piss.

I'm getting this one for my boyfriend. I smelled it at a department store and it made me wild! I won't mind having that scent around for a few months :)

Ralph Lauren's Polo Black (not Double Black, just Black) is quite a refreshing, clean masculine scent. The type of scent that makes you want to move closer to the wearer. Tangerine and lemon aromas are tempered by sage and woodsy notes of patchouli and tonka bean.
Even on drydown, the patchouli never becomes overwhelming and you can still detect the citrusy and sage notes.
Nice, clean, bracing. A definate keeper.

After smelling various stanky colognes in the men's isle, this seemed to be the nicest most sophisticated scent which youthful enough for a young guy, most mens cologne are too severe and serious. 1oz costs 39.50 this is quite affordable especially 1 spray is enough. Ralph Lauren has pioneered men's fragrances for years with Polo, Romance, now Black. Good stuff!

Even though this is a male scent, I wear it all the time on myself and have received compliments. It has a very fresh and clean-scrubbed 'I've just come out of the bath' fragrance.

As with all fragrances, the scent is really a mixture of your own natural scent and essential oils of the cologne. My natural scent is distinctly earthy/spicy. Polo Black has a heavy patchouli noir scent with a touch of armoise (think crisp bitter). Definitely a scent that begs for attention. This is one of the few colognes where the scent of the cologne merges completely with my own natural scent. Not suitable for professional settings (unless, you want to be the center of attention). It works better in casual social or intimate settings. It's has a moderate longevity and will usually fade off into a mildly powdery scent by the end of day.

OK so I have not smelled this on a man, only on my own wrist at the store... so maybe something got lost. But my first impression of this frag was black licorice - I know it's not listed in the notes but there it was - and since I really don't like licorice, that was a turn-off. Great packaging though - the black bottle feels like a smooth onyx stone in your hand.

Wow! Dark, masculine, *very* sexy, just a bit outdoorsy. I don’t know a lot about men’s cologne, but I know I greatly dislike the ones that are sweet, they’re a turn off and they automatically make me think the wearer effeminate. Polo Black isn’t sweet. It’s also not overly musky, I feel like there’s just a hint of a fruity note (the mango I suppose) that keeps this from going too far over. My fiancé is climber and is a low-maintenance kind of guy with a shaven head...when he wears this, I can’t get close enough. If you love an unapologetic masculine cologne that is as sexy as sexy gets, Black is for you. PLEASE go light on this guys...spray in the air and walk through it. (P.S. For myself, I love Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, Pure Poison and Sage Machado’s Onyx.)
NOTES:
tonka bean, iced mango, patchouli noir, spanish sage, and silver armoise
