Not writing this for myself, but for my 15 year old daughter who suddenly developed horrible acne. I took her to a dermatologist and he put her on antibiotics, a cream and Panoxyl bar soap. In just four days, the three together have worked WONDERS!!! We're waiting to see an OB/GYN now because the derm said she isn't a candidate for Accutaine but that he thought she was suffering from PCOD, which I was afraid of. The first two days after using the Panoxyl, she broke out even worse, but now, it's all clearing and drying and her skin looks terrific compared to the past three months. It's working for her back and chest as well. He said the Panoxyl would have an exfoliating effect and her skin is just glowing. It might be a combination of the three things together but whatever, the soap surely hasn't hurt at all. Of course the long term treatment is going to be BCP but she's fine with that and will continue with the Panoxyl even after she's through with the antibiotics and cream. I've spent hundreds of dollars on soaps, creams, Clinique... you name it and the painful cystic acne is almost gone in four days. I won't even mention how much her self confidence has gone up. Great stuff so far.

Since Panoxyl was no longer available my Dermatologist recommended using Joesoef Skin Care Sulfur Soap 10% as an alternative to BP. Sulfur Soap is actually natural with anti bacterial, anti fungal, anti inflammatory, removes dead skin cells and reduces redness. I LOVE THIS SOAP !!! for best results use warm water and work soap into a rich lather, be sure allow 60 second before rinse. This is import to allow the sulfur to penetrate deep into the pores killing all bacterial on contact, and removing dead skin cells on the surface leading to a healthy complexion. It only $9 available online or at dermatologists. Joesoef Skin Care sulfur soap is pound for pound the best acne soap out there ....hope this info helps someone its sure has helped me and my friends....5 STARS

LOVE this product!! I have tried SO many acne products over the years and this is the only one that really clears my skin. I have not bought it from this site, I usually buy it at my local Walmart but every store I search is out of stock!! Anyway, it is very drying but I just love it.

if you are dealing with persistent acne run do not walk to get this! in the past 4 months I have gone from perfect skin to semi-severe acne. found out I have a hormonal imbalance, def going to correct that . But while I'm waiting to see doctors ect I was looking to at least control my oil and acne with skincare but absolutely nothing that had controlled any of my minor acne in the past was working ( MUAC peels, retina, Acne.org treatment, neutrogena stress control, aspirin mask, sulphur masks). they are all great products but I knew my skin was beyond their help. I bought this on a whim in the U.S. as I had never seen it canada and I am beyond thrilled with it. I hardly write reviews anymore but this is the only thing that has even touched my acne and oil. I also let it sit on my skin for a minute and found this works even better. oh also It took about a week or 2 to see a visible difference. my only gripe is the bar sucks and is messy but I'm too scared to switch to the cream formula. My skin is definitely not back to normal but this is the only thing helping

I started using benzoyl peroxide to contro my acne a few months ago. I started with a 5% and gradually moved up until I had been using 10% for a couple months. When my Clean and Clear cleanser ran out, I tried Panoxyl 10. The product gave me horrible red bumps and rashes all over my face and neck. I also had dry, peeling places. My skin is naturally fairly oily, so this was very odd. I blamed this on my moisturizer since my skin isn't sensitive to the peroxide and continued use of the cleanser. My skin got worse and worse until I stopped using it all together. The red bumps resembled dermatitis and I stopped using anything on my face for 3 days to help them heal. My boyfriend believes my bad reaction was caused by the chemical that is used to keep the cleanser in bar- form, which is why I had never had the reaction before, I have always used gel and foaming cleansers. I switched back to my Clean & Clear 3 in 1 Cleanser, which is 5% benzoyl peroxide and brought back my Clean & Clear Morning Glow moisturizer and my skin is fine. Definitely would not recommend to anyone with combination, dry, or sensitive skin.

Well.... it did dry out my acne but what it did to my neck was rediculous... extreme dryness and scaly skin.... not to mention, it burned the skin on my face, and I battle with hyperpigmentation, this made it extremely worse.... I used a 10% sulfur ointment and the first night this dry, dark, dead skin turned grey and after an exfoliating cleanser the darkness was gone! I love my sulfur.... it purges my skin brings all my pimples to a white head, then I put my benzol peroxide cream on it overnight, next morning their all dried up....:)

I have battled acne for the past twenty plus years. I actually stopped breaking out for a good four years or so, but about two years ago my skin did a complete and utter freak out and my battle started once again. I tried virtually every thing under the sun (Shea butter soap, coconut oil, etc.) but nothing worked - at all! I finally resorted back to ProActiv which did very little.

After reading the reviews here, I decided to give Panoxyl a try because I honestly had nothing to lose. Plus, I was tired of shelling out $90 every three months to ProActiv which wasn't even coming close to delivering the promised results. Panoxyl did in fact clear up my skin but like others have said, it is incredibly drying. I don't have sensitive skin by any means, but this made my skin very dry and flaky. Even after applying moisturizer, my skin still felt tight and ended up flaky by the end of the day. I eventually began using it once a day as a result of the dryness and it still worked relatively well.

However, for whatever reason, this soap simply stopped working for me. My guess is that I built up a tolerance to the benzoyl peroxide. Even after going back to using it twice a day, I just didn't get the same results. After getting more huge, painful zits that took forever and a day to heal, I finally bought another cleanser and chucked this in my drawer.

Despite the fact that this stopped working for me, I would recommend Panoxyl to anyone with mild to moderate acne because I do think it helps to a degree. Also the price is such that even if this doesn't work, you won't feel as if you've wasted a truckload full of money on yet another acne treatment.

Burns and irritates beyond belief. Skin became super dry. Certainly not for sensitive skin. Why use ultra strong 10% bp when 2.5% is proven just as effective?

I started using this bar last year for about 4 months. My face was practically spotless within 5 weeks from when I first started using it! My face hadn't been that clear in YEARS. I have tried everything... Oxy, Proactiv, several Neutrogena washes, Nivea, AcneFree, you name it... For those 4 months I felt so confident, I even stopped wearing foundation! But when I ran out of the 2 bars I bought and went back to buy more, the clerk told me the product was DISCONTINUED. I was completely distraught and that's when I started trying everything I could get my hands on that had 10% Benzoyl Peroxide.
Then just 2 weeks ago my mom came home with PanOxyl Bar Soap. My face had obviously broken out since last year, and I was ecstatic to find out this product wasn't discontinued!
My chin, cheeks, and forehead were red and fairly pimply 2 weeks ago. Right now my chin is clear except for one spot, my cheeks are clear except for one spot, and my forhead has some marks on it. But other than those little things, my face has already cleared up so much in just 2 WEEKS... I can't wait until I can stop wearing make up again. :) I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend you buy STOCK of this product in case they stop selling!

I've been using this for years. Tried switching to a "natural" alternative a few months ago and it was a terrible idea. Now I'm back on this bar of soap and my face has repaired itself after just a week! I'll never stray again.

This is the absolute best BP soap on the market and cheaply priced since it works better then some prescriptions I have tried!! I have been using this a my cleanser for 6 months and will continue to do so....I was told about it when my Dermatologist's recommended this as part of my regimen. I told her I already have used the foaming wash and she said no get the bar. I had a hard time finding it and had to go to a few drug stores before I hit luck. I haven't been able to find it lately and I went on Panoxyls site and it said----PanOxyl® 10% Acne Cleansing Bar is currently unavailable in the U.S. The product is expected to be available in September 2011. In the meantime, please consider PanOxyl® 10% Acne Foaming Wash as an alternative. For additional inquiries, please contact us at Stiefel.barsoap@stiefel.com. Basically I wash with this in the morning, use clindamycin lotion, and differin at night. My derm said if I feel irritated use dove sensitive skin that day and then use panoxyl the next day. I cant wait until it is available again!!! I went on ebay and people were bidding sooo high for it so some might be getting desperate. I have tried the foaming wash and thought that was pretty good but I think this is better. oh and also my face normally hates BP but my face likes panoxyl
UPDATE 1/20/12 I stil use this once or twice a day. If I don't keep up with it things start to out of control. I wish more people knew about it. It would help alot of people and save people so much money.

I started breaking out around my neck. I always breakout on my back which is embarrassing so I thought a higher percentage of benzoyl peroxide would help! Boy was I wrong this soap burned my skin and made it hard for me to turn my neck. Never would buy this again. I have sensitive skin but didn't think it would do that much damage. geesh

This is the absolute best BP soap on the market and cheaply priced for what it provides!! I have been using this a my cleanser for several years now and will continue to do so....I was told about it when my Dermatologist's office all of a sudden closed, I called around trying to see if any other offices sold similar products to the soap I bought from them, well, this one office I called had an angel on the other end who said, "Well, we don't sell that soap in particular, however, if you look on the back and see the active ingredient, you can probably look online to see if there are some products with that in them." I thanked her and promptly went to surfing the internet for 10% BP products and lo and behold I found this soap and it was carried at every local store in town!! I couldn't believe that all this time this inexpensive little miracle soap was right under my nose! I will NEVER go without this soap, I am a 10% BP'er all they way!

Heck yes I would re-purchase! I love this bar soap. I bought one back in September and have a ton left still! Granted since it is very drying, I only use it every other day, but still. Believe it or not, I'm sensitive to BP-at least with spot treatments that stay on the skin for some time. I was reluctant to try this soap based on that very reason but thought well, I'm not leaving it on my facve for any extended period of time, so I'll give it a whirl. And I'm so glad I did. Having suffered with bouts of acne my entire adult life, nothing has cleared up my face like this soap. I love it and will buy again and again (although I may try the foaming face wash next time).

For those sensitrive to BP as spot treatments, try it out! The bar is cheaper than the face wash so if you're a first-timer, I'd go that route. But you may be pleasantly surprised!

And one final note-I personally didn't experience any purging with this soap and I switched to it from being a faithful Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash user.

Really effective. The soap is a convenient way to treat body acne, I just use it daily in the shower and make sure to dry off with a white towel, as it will bleach some fabrics. I haven't had a problem with it bleaching clothing, as it only seems to do that when my skin is still wet. It is drying to the skin, but a good moisturizer fixes that. This stuff works!

I'm a little afraid to write a review, because it's usually the kiss of death for me, but I can't help it. This stuff is great.

Although I've only had mild to moderate acne, I tried every acne Rx and drugstore option during high school and college. Now that I'm a little older, the acne has reduced some, but I was still getting at least one ugly zit popping up every week.
I originally bought this bar for my summer chest acne, but one day I decided to throw caution to the wind and give it a try on my face. What did I have to lose? I've been using it for about 2 weeks now (in the mornings only!) and wow! It's definitely helped! I haven't experienced any dryness, but I'm always good about moisturizing.
Once this bar runs out I think I'll give the tube version a try, just for better convenience. Give it a try and good luck!

I picked up the Panoxyl bar at the drugstore based on reviews I have seen on MUA. I tend to have sensitive skin, so I decided to use it 1x per day only before after washing off my makeup with Purpose Cleanser. For the first few weeks I had the usual side effects I have come to expect from BP products (ie: redness, flaking, burning) but I found that using a good moisturizer and exfoliating with a washcloth helped with this to some extent.

At first, my acne seemed to get worse, because it brought out a few pimples that were lingering under my skin- but once this "purging" effect stopped my skin began to clear slowly but surely. After several months of using the Panoxyl bar and NOTHING else to treat the acne, my skin is clearing.

EDIT- My skin seems to have hit a plateau. My acne stopped improving so I increased usage to 2x/day, but there was no additional benefit for my acne. At this point my breakouts are just as bad as they were before I started using this product, only now I'm extremely red/irritated so I actually look worse. It's just not worth it for me anymore. I think this product would be better suited for someone with more mild acne...I seem to respond better to creams that are left on the skin overnight.

I REALLY think more people should give this a try. My mother is a doctor so once she brought home samples of brevoxyl....I tried it and it truly was fantastic; however, back then, my acne really wasn't bad...so I didn't really invest into it. They don't give samples anymore and if my mother were to write a prescription it'd be way too expensive. So I've been trying tons of things because tretinoin gave me more pustule acne (even when i stopped--btw i used it because for some reason i'd developed tiny little whiteheads all over my forehead, but tretinoin sucked imo). I was at Walmart one fine day and just staring at the acne products when I decided to just try PanOxyl on a whim, vaguely remembering someone mentioning it in a review. Only after I came home and did a bit of research did I realize that both brevoxyl and panoxyl were made by the same company and contain the same ingredients. Both have prescription grade bp that absorbs really well into your skin. I find this very effective for all those little bumps and for any actual pustules this does help but i find also piling a bit of 2.5 percent bp gel on top of the bigger zits at least twice a day helps immensely. 10 percent bp is great for clogged skin, while for pustules, 2.5 is all that is needed. This is far better than other drugstore brands because of its prescription grade ingredients, and that's not even a claim on the box, it's from experience. This is the same stuff a derm would prescribe. I think I'm going to try the foam next time, which is more similar to brevoxyl (its a liquid wash, because I think it'd be easier to use (esp for travel). Anyways, absolutely fantastic for those who get pustules and whiteheads.
update:....yeah this kind of "burned" the upper layer of my skin...i've stopped using it on account of it being too harsh..i dont think my acne was severe enough for this. i mean...it didnt hurt but i noticed some like very very thin dead skin on the top that was a bit different color than my skin.....its not too bad at all and has mostly peeled off fine, but i wouldnt recommend this for long term use...

I read good reviews on here, so i decided to purchase this bar at Walmart. I used it in the morning and at night. After a 2 weeks i started noticing that the sides of my nose and lips were cracking and getting dry. But in addition to that, my entire face felt soo dry that not even my regular moisterizer helped. Cut down to just using it at night but it didn't help with the dryness., so i stopped using it completely and now my skin went back to its normal self. As far as for the acne..i didn't see much improvement. I was still breaking out. Maybe i didn't use it long enough to see it's max potential, but i just couldn't stand my face feeling dry.

I have the 10% BP foam wash. I had noticed my acne had reduced a lot. I got my 2nd foam but I read the reviews for the soap and it had better reviews so I bought it from cvs. The foam has dried and ripped my nose and corners of my mouth when I had used it twice, a few other people had the same complaints but everyone seemed to love the soap so I wanted to try it out. I'll do an update on which is better soap or foam wash.
