It hold the curl pretty well for my stubborn asian eyelashs. The only problem is that my oily eyelids makes the mascara smudge like hell! Besides that it's a great mascara, both lengtening and holds the curl all day!

I don't get the bad reviews.I think this mascara did a lovely job at lifting my lashes and opening them.my lashes are naturally long and thick and this mascara defines them more, giving me this darker beautiful 'arabian eye look' ! I also like the packaging, very simple and fits my hand perfectly.the wand really attracts me,I usually go with the classic mascara wand but this big wand with smaller fibers does the job better.the trick to use this is by flicking your lashew in an upward motions to thickens lashes individually just by the TIP of the wand as to not get too much product piled on.and then you can comb through it carefully and do a coat or two.although it takes time and clumps a bit,its still one of the best I've found out there out of other drugstore mascaras! :)

I absolutely loove this mascara! Super waterproof, price is slightly more expensive than average drugstore mascaras but it's totally worth it! One of the only mascaras that holds up my stick straight lashes after i curl them! Packaging could be less bulkier but i like the rubber wand that's the exact same as the covergirl lash blast's, really separates your lashes beautifully with minimal clumping :) would definitely repurchase.

Yes it does get messy if you pile on too much too soon. The trick here is to wipe the wand on a tissue paper or on a towel to remove all the excess product, then apply a thin coat of mascara over your lashes, layering them until it builds up to a voluminous, thick curl. It's amazing! Outperforms Diorshow, Fairydrops, Maybelline, CoverGirl etc. The closest mascara I've used that can make your lashes look like falsies.
I use Clinique Take the Day Off to remove my waterproof mascara, and it has easily removed this Max Factor one without much tugging or pulling.

I love this mascara to death! Well my lashes usually get weigh down by most of the mascara out there! This brand is the only one that doesnt do that and makes my lashes look amazing! This is prolly the only brand in Hong Kong accessible that I love for their mascara!! Now my lashes look like pretty fans like falsies!

This is one of my favourite mascaras! Not sure why it has gotten some bad reviews on smudging because this certainly is NOT the case for me.
NOTE: I have naturally straight, sparse eyelashes but have recently permed them so that the curl stays. I usually apply two coats, and really wiggle it into the roots before fanning out over the rest of my lashes.
- It really bulks up my lashes at the roots so lashes are much more voluminous
- The fat brush grabs all the roots yet still helps to fan out the mascara at the tips, so I get fluttery, thick lashes (Even my boyfriend noticed that they look particularly long the first time I used it - and he never notices this sort of thing at all)
- Doesn't smudge on me
- Lengthens a little
- Dries quickly so I don't have to worry about smudging it before it dries
- Not really a fan of the huge, fat tube. I do find it easy to grab but it's not something that I would carry around.
- Can't really do more than two good coats because it dries so quickly (and then clumps) - but I hardly ever need more than two coats anyway.

I am shocked to read that someone has recently reviewed this stating it's not waterproof at all - I can only assume they have bought a fake! There are fakes out there - I bought one off Ebay last year.
This is my go-to mascara - the only one I have used for the last two years or so. I wear contact lenses and my eyes are quite sensitive; any dust or muck that gets in my eye is guaranteed to make them water. This is literally the only mascara I have ever used which doesn't smudge!
Removal IS tricky. You have to use an oil based remover, such as Lancome's Bi-Facil Non-Oily instant cleanser. I use this with a make up remover wipe and GENTLY wipe my eyelashes and eyelids. Once this mascara is on it is NOT coming off easily.
I have long but sparse eyelashes and this helps to volumise and thicken them - and the curl holds all day too.

OMG non waterproof at all. Gives me smudged eyes after an hour. Horrible mascara
Age: 19-24 Skin: Combination, Fair-Medium, Neutral Hair: Other, Wavy Eyes: Green
- thickens your lashes very well
- good for layering (I use a lengthening mascara with this one, perfect combo!)
- gets very hard after drying, i.e. "fallout" warning
- does not lengthen much
Packaging is nice although a bit slippery.
Good quality for the price.

While studying abroad in London, I needed to find a quick replacement for Cover Girl's Lash Blast. I bought Max Factor's False Lash Effect in hopes that it would be comparable, unfortunately, while it was a decent mascara, it was not worth the price. I found that the mascara did not hold a curl very well and did not give the allusion of false lashes.

This is my new HG mascara. It has replaced my Maybelline 'falsies' mascara which was my original HG. I bought this Max Factor mascara on a whim. I've always seen it at the drugstores but wasn't sure if it was worth the £10.99 (UK). I'm so glad I bought it in the end because it really defined my short/med sparse lashes by lengthening and volumising. The brush applicator is perfect but you have to blot the tip because you will get excess amount. I prefer to curl my lashes before applying this mascara and this does a wonderful job of holding the curl all day! I also prefer to use waterproof formulas as I have oily eyelids and they seem to hold lash curls better. Despite the price, I would definitely repurchase this mascara. I haven't bought any other mascara since purchasing this, which explains how great this product is. Hope this review helps :)

i usually love Max Factor make up but this was a huge mistake. i have used the original in the past and loved it so when i seen a waterproof version i thought it would be great since i usually prefer waterproof mascaras.
i have extremely long eyelashes and everyone thinks they are fake so i like mascaras that will show this off and separate them well at the same time but this clumped my eyelashes together and gave me that horrible spider leg look.
after a few days of wearing it one night i took it off and my eyelashes started to fall out! i wasn't doing anything different than i usually would and they just fell out. i had lots of horrible bald patches and it was really obvious. i would not recommend this to anyone. if you want the false lash effect the original is so much better.

What i like about this make up is, it doesn't clump. and it really stays whether or not you use a primer for your lashes. and it pulls my lashes upward, so no need for eye curler. Would want to buy this again, but of course i am willing to try any other product

I brought this mascara (in black) as I wanted a mascara that would hold all day during the summer months (all the ordinary mascaras I have tried eventually run and smudge as my eyelids are quite oily). I brought maxfactor as I have used 200 calorie and masterpiece mascaras before which I have found to be very good. But this was disappointing.
I found this mascara did not give much in terms of volume or length, far from a 'false lash effect'. I also took an extraordinary amount of effort to come off. I used make-up wipes, baby lotion and cleanser, which made my eyes hurt and some of my lashes came off with it. I know its meant to be waterproof but I would expect it to come off with make up removers.
I have given it a couple of stars because its pretty waterproof and doesn't fake. But overall its not really worth the money or the effort!

Eyes: oily and tend to water a lot. Eyelashes : straight holds no curl what so ever, long not spares but not thick.
I bought this mascara a couple of months ago after all my other mascaras failed to hold any sort of curl in my eyelashes. I picked this mascara after i read product reviews and recommendations.
This mascara claims to give a false lash effect, i disagree with this because i feel that it gives my eyelashes the look of naturally long and thick eyelashes. This mascara for me holds curl for at least 8 hours with there being only some dropping. After the 8 hours I find that my eyelashes have begun to go straight this happens very slowly thought in a hot environment. The mascara is also waterproof I can say that it's definitely better than some of the other mascaras that i have had but it still smudges slightly through out the day but hold up nicely with water being splashed from the sink or with rain.
To remove the mascara isn't difficult like most waterproof mascaras I like to use my face makeup remover and a wet cloth to remove the makeup remover, I then wash my face with cleanser and rinse. If any of the mascara is left then I take nivea eyemakeup remover and a cotton ball and hold the socked cotton ball to the mascara far a few seconds then wipe a way this usually remove all the mascara.
I will buy this mascara again or buy another in brown

I got this product because I have the worst type of eye lashes - short and straight :-/
I began using this product because it was recommended to me by relatives who said it gave them more curl and lash definition ... so I gave it a go.
It is around £11 at Boots which is quite pricey for mascara.
Advantages: It does what it says, its waterproof! I hate people seeing me without make up as I am very self-concious, without eye make up I simply look plain and boring. I wore this when I went swimming with my friends and it just stayed on !! It didnt even leave a small trace of mascara that had collected below the lash line - it was fantastic! I does make my eye lashes appear thicker and more defined, although I have to use an eye lash curler before applying, I tested this mascara without curling first and it did a reasonable job - but much better with curlers. It also lasts AGES, I brought mine in July 2011 and I'm still using it now!
Disadvantages: Its rather clumpy when it comes out of the tube and if I put too much on it goes really cakey and horrible. It doesnt curl my lashes as much as I would have hoped so I do have to use another mascara as well with more curl definition, and use this on the outer edges.
Recommendations: Its not harsh on the eyes so I would recommend this mascara for people who have sensitive eyes.
I would put a second layer of this or another mascara on the outer edges for more curl and eye awaking.
I would keep buying this product over and over again (: I do love it !
Hope I helped. x

This mascara lifts, curls and thickens. However it is clumpy, a bit flaky and quite difficult to remove.
I wouldn't recommend this mascara for everyday use, but if your looking for a waterproof mascara to wear while swimming this is just perfect! Just make sure that you wait at least an hour after applying it before you go swimming, otherwise it will run.

False Lash Effect Waterproof.
Horrible. Just horrible. It takes forever to dry, while in the meantime, you get black spots all over your eye shadow and makeup if you dare to blink. The wand isn't very comfortable. Also, it has a weird smell and it is impossible to remove. This one goes to the garbage.
