I got a prescription for Acanya to use in the morning along with Retin-A to use at night yesterday, and my skin already looks about 80% better after just using them twice. I can't believe how quickly this stuff almost completely cleared me up! I got a coupon for it so it didn't cost anything, but otherwise I think the cost of both of them together would have been over $300. My new skincare regimen consists of Cetaphil, Acanya, then CeraVe Hydrating Lotion in the morning, and then the Retin-A at night in place of the Acanya. This is a great product if you have mild acne and need it cleared up fast.

I thought this product did not work for me in the first two months. After dealing with massive sickness in January, I decided one day to purchase cerave moisturizing cream. I was advised by the derm to use this only in the morning. Well after twos months o was about to give up I started using this at night along with cerave. The cystic hormonal acne started disappearing. I am still skeptical about the results as I just over being sick and I got rid of toxins from all the sweating. But I do believe it was from using cerave. I will have to purchase a few more of these as I get discount now.

This product works well to help acne. I've had moderate acne since I was a teenager and have used a lot of topical and oral antibiotic treatments.
Acanya, which is a benzoyl peroxide treatment/clindamycin topical cream/gel based consistency worked alright to help my acne blemishes. It is really helpful to use in conjuction with a topical steroid like retin a or trentinoin cream.
You do see results, but it usually takes several months. It took around 2.5 months for me to see good results. I don't have cystic acne, so I can't vouge for how long it takes to work on those. My acne has cleared up about 70% since I started using the product in January. I don't really think that this is good news considering Acanya runs at about $200 a 50g tube without insurance. This is in no way a miracle product, or it wasn't for me.
You should really look into your insurance co-pays before you run off to the derm. and get a prescription for this. It's can be a pretty high copay. It has the same active ingredients as Benzaclin, which now has a generic. The only difference is that the benzoyl peroxide content is 5% instead of 2.5%. This means that it can be a little bit harsher on the face. If you apply the pea sized amount that is suggested and use a moisturizer the effects aren't really noticably different. Most insurance companies will pay for the generic Benzaclin for a generic copay.
Overall, I rate this product a 4 because it DOES help treat acne, but is by no means a miracle product. I have repurchased, but without insurance, there would be NO WAY I'd pay the extra dough when I can get Benzaclin generic for A LOT cheaper.

Miracle product for me!!!!! Short story (you can probably search boards for my 1 1/2 year skin dilemma), I've had adult acne off & on most of my adult life. A couple of years ago I started getting what turned out to be repeated negative staph infections on my face. My face initially cleared in only 3 days on antibiotics & Bactrim, but then the bumps (and scars) came back more frequently and the antibiotics (and every other product or home remedy I tried) stopped working. Within a year the left side of my face went from flawless to being covered on white scars and small scabs. Yuck! AND VERY embarrassing! My derm finally agreed to put me on Accutane, but her partner disagreed and suggested Acanya. I was very skeptical but gave it a shot. To my surprise my face began to clear up & smooth out within 10 days. I use this once a day, in the morning and I am absolutely delighted, ecstatic, and SO thankful! I'm 44 and now I finally have nicer skin. I've done a couple of MUAC TCA peels for the scarring, which has helped. Acanya also makes my pores smaller and doesn't make my face oilier, like Taz did. This stuff is an absolute Godsend!!!!
The co-pay is $25 and it's shelf life is 2 months. It also now comes in a more sanitary pump instead of the little jar.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend you try this if you are at the end of your rope with your skin and have tried everything else. I hid behind my hair (and LOTS of makeup at Thanksgiving & Christmas last year because I felt so awful about my skin. It was really bad!) Now, people are complementing me on how smooth it is. I have Everyday Minerals to thank for covering the scars :-) their multitasking concealer is fantastic! Hopefully after a couple more peels, the scars will be gone.
And don't forget your sunscreen after this stuff dries.
I'd buy this even if I didn't have insurance!!!!
Edit: Please remember my skin problem was a very stubborn negative staph infection, not acne. My happiness w/ the product was that my infection cleared up and has stayed away since (10/2011). How it works for acne may not yield as great results. I just wanted to clarify that.
Also, in my experience, topical acne products never work as well as prescriptions taken internally, at least not for me.
Good luck!

HOLY COW!!!!!!!!! MIRACLE!!! Oh see my review on Atralin please.

I use this Acanya AM and the Atralin PM.

In conjunction these two products are AMAZING.
I was suffering from CYSTIC ACNE, yes the worst of the worst.

I have been using this for 3 months and my skin looks amazing. I am almost at the point where I do not have to use FOUNDATION to cover up the ugliness. This has cleared up my skin completely. I have not had ONE CYST in 3 months (since I have been on it).

1st month: purging but not too bad when you already have acne
2nd month: clearing
3rd month: amazement, miracle has occurred. HOLY HOLY HOLY

Please use this if you suffer from acne. This has saved me from being socially embarrassed and awkward. I can lift my head high in the air and smile now.

Price: pricey but not really because IT WORKS.
UPDAte: 9/11/2011: omg I do not know why but I have a huge CYST now between my lip and nose. This has been here for about one month moving and causing whiteheads everywhere. So disgusting I am not leaving the house. But the rest of my face is clear. I am thinking because I stopped using ACANYA ( and the atralin for PM) for two weeks, so this is what I get??????? I am going to try to go to DERMatologist tomorrow to get a cortisone shot.

UPDATE: 9/12/2011 STOPPED working BIG sad face. I have cysts on my face, i just had them injected with cortisone. Doc said my skin has built immunity to medicine. So switched me on something else.
UPDATE: 10/07/2011 STOPPED working. I have two HUGE nasty cysts on my face larger than a quarter each are still on my face for almost a month now even with the cortisone injections. So frustrating!!!!!! I will not be leaving the house today, so disgusting. It did work for approx. 8 months but then stopped. I just ordered the supplement Herpanacine, I have read A LOT of good reviews on it!!!!

This product is amazing! My dermatologist prescribed this to me, but I thought it would be good if my husband used it. He has bad acne from shaving everyday, he has blackheads, whiteheads, deep cysts, ingrown hairs etc. This is like a miracle product. So good in fact, that he has the initiative of putting it on himself about twice a day. I don't know what makes this work so well, we have used benzoyl peroxide and clindamyacin separately before but somehow this works so well together in this percentage/ratio. His acne has cleared up almost entirely, he looks like a different person, his face is baby smooth and clear, and his deep blackheads on his nose have diminished. His pores look tighter and his complexion more even toned.
The only thing I'd say is a minor complaint is that it comes in a jar which you have to dip your fingers into, which would seem unhygienic.

I suddenly developed adult acne. My dermatologist prescribed this and gave me a coupon so that my out-of-pocket cost came to $25. I started applying it just once a day and began washing my face with Cetaphil as instructed. My acne improved a bit, but nothing too drastic. After a couple of days of just mediocre results, I began applying in the morning and before bed and I switched back to my regular face wash - St Ives Apricot scrub with salicylic acid. All the tiny red bumps covering my forehead vanished in just 4 days! This is an amazing product. It's pricey without the coupon, it's in a jar so you feel you somehow leave traces of bacteria after each dip, and it expires after 2 months, so no keeping a supply on reserve for emergency break-outs... despite those cons, this is a face-saver and I'm so thankful to my dermatologist for prescribing it to me :)

AWESOME! My Dermatologist prescribed this to me and it works! No break out in 5 months! Unbelievable!

Update:
Your skin gets used to this and you'll have to talk to your dermatologist and get a new regime.

I have tried so many products to treat my acne. I've used creams and toners and I've even take the pill treatment that lasts for 9 months! I've found that many creams so work, but after awhile they have stopped doing their job. I have been using the acanya gel for over a year now and my skin looks great! I barely get acne anymore and mostly what I have is scaring.

I use the product every morning all over my face. (Don't spot treat because my dermatologist says that can make acne more likely to appear in other parts of your face. It's really all about prevention.) What I love so much about Acanya is that it doesn't dry out my skin. I hate having my face peel because it's so hard to apply makeup over dry skin. Acanya has never caused my skin to peel. I love, love, love this product and hope to continue using it!

WOW! I can not begin to rave enough for this amazing product. Through the years, I have used Differin, RetinA, and a few other similar products...of course, along with every imaginable OTC product. When i was about 21 I started using ProActiv for random breakouts, and continued to use until about 2 years ago (age 28) when i felt it wasn't doing the trick anymore....also, I started breaking out regularly and more severly than ever before...cystic acne galore!!..for whatever reason i just let it go and didn't take action until this January. I had tried multiple dermatoligst and finally found the most amazing one in Chicago. Turns out, much like many, many women my age...its adult acne caused by hormones. So....he immedietly put me on a routine of Acanya gel in the morning (along with 2 different oral meds.) This gel is over the top great! Within 3 days, there was a difference...within 2 weeks, i was blown away! This gel dries 99% clear (as long as you smooth it out) and does not dry me out at all. I did start using it at night as well to move the process along, and that DID dry me out...so i went back to just day. As of today, 3 months later, i haven't had a breakout in weeks, and when i have, prior, this speeds the healing up by days!

Price...i have a special card/special offer from the company that makes this to get my perscription filled for the next 3 months for no more than $25. I have heard the price after that is VERY high...i hope not too high, because my hope is to stay on this for quite some time.

Packaging: not so great...its in a tub, so you have to make sure your hands are extra clean when you dip in, or you start spreading the germs...but since they mix this from a powder form at the pharmacy, i can see why its in a tub.

Anyone who reads this and has more questions...feel free to PM me!!!

Wow! It's been a very long time since I've used an acne product that worked so quickly and effectively (and without the initial purge thing that typically results in new acne from the onset of using the new product). I was very reluctant to invest in this product because of previous bad experiences with antibiotic acne topical meds but okayed my dermatologist's suggestion to try samples of it first.

It is a gel-based product that has to be mixed by the pharmacist at each refill (just be certain to reclaim the mixing spatula that they use). The samples from the derm were pre-mixed, however. 1.2% Clindamycin (an antibiotic) phosphate and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide constitute the matrix of this gel. I got a bit worried at first since I am used to 10% benzoyl peroxide, have had adverse reactions and negative results with antibiotics in acne products, and am already on the highest strength retinoid-based acne products. But, you see, my chin acne kicks butt on all of my acne meds, regardless of the strength. So, I figured...why not...I'll try this new gel. Wow! Wow! and Wow! It is remarkable! Crystal clear chin, stops acne dead in its tracks! I just spread a thin layer of this cooling white gel on my chin, neck, and temple areas (most vulnerable acne locations) in the evenings and voila--no acne!

I actually thought there was something wrong because it was working so well but there wasn't. My doctor then gave me a full script for this stuff. It's expensive though at just under $200 per jar. However, I was given a discount card from my derm, which allowed me to get a full size jar of this stuff for only $25. That price is good for 3 more refills until Feb or March of 2010. I believe it's a promotional thing since this product is new.

There are potential adverse side effects that may result from the use of this product, which are clearly documented in the literature. And they are more closely associated with the antibiotic as opposed to the benzoyl peroxide. I also read somewhere that it is uncertain what effects may occur from long term use of this stuff. Longitudinal studies have been performed (mainly on animal models) but apparently were not carried out long enough to clarify if there are any negative effects from long term use on humans.

I have used this product for over a month now and am thrilled and reveling in the fact that I do not have chin acne, neck acne, or temple acne since using it. No irritation, no itching, no redness, no side effects...oh wait, one side effect and that is CLEAR SKIN!!! It has significantly lifted my esteem and has allowed me to really relax. I just wish it happened years sooner. Wow!
