When I first used this product, I used it as a mask and left it on my face for about an hour or more. (I read that the longer you leave it on, the better the effects) but for my sensitive skin, it irritated my skin and my skin was red for a while. However, I did notice my skin was smoother and softer. Now I use it as an exfoliator (it has small grains that dissolve when rubbed in) after I have cleansed my skin. It is very gentle on my skin (my face gets very irritated when I exfoliate no matter what the product is) and it does not irritate it at all! My skin feels great, soft, and smooth. I have noticed my acne scarring fading away but not completely. I try to use this product about 3 times a week and when I don't use it my skin looks and feels dead and dry. I enjoy the fact that it has a lot of natural ingredients such as oyster shell, lemon juice, and honey. I always shake it before I apply it. I actually really enjoy using this product

Some cons are that the smell is not that pleasant but it is tolerable.

After seeing an article in which celebrity makeup artist Kathy Jeung swore by this stuff, I decided to invest all of $5 in a container of this. I'm currently recovering from my first acne flare-up in years, and have been trying to counteract the damage with a bevy of masks and creams from brands like Clarins, Fresh, Kiehl's and Philosophy. I have very dry/sensitive skin and am therefore limited in the products I am comfortable sampling. Many brands are pretty heavy-handed with chemicals, so I have to avoid most of the mainstream acne-vanquishing products. All of the products I have used in the last few weeks have been either ineffective or exacerbated my remaining blemishes. I was literally at my wit's end, so I tried this. The first 5 min stung ever so slightly, but this eventually subsided. After an hour, I washed it off and was surprised that my skin was not raw at all - despite the initial sting. In fact, my dull, acne-ravaged skin was transformed. It glowed all night and was noticeably softer/plumper/healthy-looking. I am so surprised.

UPDATE 12/18/2012: I've been using this once a week or so for about an hour since my first review and can say that it substantially reduces the darkness of my acne scar discolorations after each use. Forget Clarins Bright Plus Night Cream. Forget Clinique Even Better. And definitely forget about Mario Badescu Healing & Soothing Mask. THIS WORKS.

i love the "hispanic" section of beauty products because it's generally cheap and there are usually things that are time-tested (you'll note gentian violet, vitamin e oil, and iodine tincture are usually in the same section as this cream.) anyhow, quite often products are pure crap, but this product seems to have a lot of great natural ingredients that i'm not worried about putting on my skin (even the lemon juice has probably lost a great deal of its acidity, i would imagine.) i suppose the bentonite clay, papain, and such things all contribute to its brightening properties.

this stuff goes on like a thick, somewhat dry, barely exfoliative paste. i have no idea about its overall efficacy in reducing scars as this is only the 2nd time i've used it. i do know that my skin seems basically "better looking" after using. i guess this would be described as "brightness." i don't have too many active acne problems at one time (i basically have hormonal breakouts around my period which consist of a few nasty bumps.) i think this stuff would be great to use before a big night out when you want nice, bright skin.

i expected that it would burn and wasn't very excited at the prospect of leaving a mask on my face for a full hour as suggested, but it's INCREDIBLY comfortable and totally pain free. at least it is on my skin! for that alone, it gets a 10 star rating from me. i'm saying this as someone who even occasionally has reactions from "sensitive skin" paula's choice products.

the only real problem i find with this is that it's nearly impossible to use unless you are going to shower directly afterwards. it took me about 5 good rinses with a washcloth to remove the stuff completely. the second time i used it, i just showered immediately after and the removal was MUCH easier. it also doesn't have an amazingly soothing smell (think typical cold cream sort of pond's smell, but much less cloying.)

i think this product also could be an amazing spot treatment, as it's easier to put on (and remove) in small amounts. i do have a pretty nasty burn scar on my forehead which is flat, but discolored (and concealeable with makeup.) i will be updating as i use this stuff and reporting on how well it helps me out.

overall, i think for the price and the gentleness of this mask, you could probably use it about 3 times a week with no problems. i have yet to find any serious complaints that would prevent me from buying it again.

I love this product!!! It's cheap and most importantly, it works. My skin is noticeably brighter after the first use and my acne marks seems lighter as well. Even my friends noticed and asked what I was using. The only thing is that you have to use this mask consistently. But at $6, I don't mind too much.

FYI: I bought the jar with the number 3 on it like in the picture.

OK, so I have used this in the past with little success. My skin was so sensitive from all the aha and bp that i was using at the time that this only seemed to irritate it further and stung too much to keep on long enough for it to do its job. Fast forward to now. my skin is far from perfect. My chin is still healing from these deep cystic things that take forever to go away. Whether I pick at them or not, there they stay. Anyway, I am finally at at point where there is only one small scab (with lots of indented scarring around it and still some swelling---nice). I know I am not out of the woods when it gets to this point bc at any time I feel like the swelling can begin again - even under the scab! Really?! This has happened many times before. I tried this again a few weeks ago and left it on for 30 mins and didnt realize at the time how much it helped, but now looking back on the time, this stuff definitely did. So I took this out again to try and finish off this monster. Kept it on today for over an hour and it definitely has reduced redness and any leftover swelling. My skin looks a little dry but not inflamed and my makeup looks better covering it up. I am going to put some more on tonite even if my skin gets dried out from it. It smells like perm solution to me for some reason. idk why, but it does. You have to stir it each time u use it, but no big deal. It did still burn slightly today, but nothing I couldnt handle and no different than any other type mask I have used. I think this is easiest to rinse off in the shower bc it does stick quite a bit to skin and any dryish parts (especially scabs) so rinsing off in the sink can be time consuming and difficult. Overall, it definitely seems that it has evened things out a bit and lightened the redness. I will definitely update, but I do think this will be a keeper if it performs like it did today.

The GRISI brand of Concha Nacar (in the blue/white package) is amazing! I apply it as a night cream after cleansing my face and it leaves my skin so incredibly soft! I have to keep myself from touching my face because I love how soft it makes it feel. The cream itself is very thick and a bit greasy, which I dont mind since I use it at night before bed, the next day all grease is gone and youre left with beautiful soft skin. As for the whitening effect, I can honestly say I have not noticed a difference on some acne scars I have (I have very oily skin) but I just use it for the softness anyway.
I bought mine in Puerto Vallarta when I went over the summer and was so excited to try a skin product from a different country that I bought like 3, only to discovered after a month that I could buy the same exact product for $5 at my local CVS. lol oh well. :-)

I used the facial mask to help reduce some post-acne scarring I've getting on the sides of my cheeks and chin. When first applied on, the mask was sticky, a bit abrasive and had this strange scent.

For a couple of weeks I applied this mask on my problem areas and I did see some improvement. However, I'm not sure if it was actually the mask doing wonders on my skin or was it actually my skin doing healing on its own. Whatever the reason, the improvements were not significant enough for me to repurchase this product again.

Age: 18 & Under   Skin: Combination, Fair, Cool   Hair: Black   Eyes: Brown

I had just bought this today when I had a little extra money to spare at my local Fiesta, and I had to pay mind to getting the #3 sort. Something that irks me is that there is no expiration date on the packaging, and with organic and viable compounds like lemon juice with no preservatives--I worry it may spoil once I remember to come back to it (I have a lofty tendency to switch from one product to another).

Onto the product. None of the containers (box and jar) are flimsy, which is great--however I'm leaving this on the bathroom counter upright for the most part, so I can't really say it can endure the jiggles of a purse. The product itself is a peppered, off-grey color. Grainy. Consistency of a semi-thick cream. Do mix before using, it separates. A lot goes a long way, and I barely scraped the surface for an entire face masque so that's more bang for your buck. After 55 minutes I washed it off with cold water, but it was mainly the cold water that gave me that brightened complexion. HOWEVER! The cream did lighten a currently-healing acne scar from a blush red to a fleshy pink. Not so sure about my age-old acne scars, though, since this was my first go.

The GRISI Concha Nacar soap works for me, although it's very drying (someone said it was greasy) and needs a follow-up application of a good lotion. But, I use it on my body, not my face.

Wow ...so glad I discovered this. I have some red marks on my body resulting from my old picking habit. Have tried AHA, HQ, aloe vera, all sorts of things with limited improvement. I have been using the Concha Nacar bleach cream for about a week and already have seen more lightening with this then from months of the other stuff. If this keeps up I may consider trying this as a mask on my face. It may break me out but may be worth it. Will update if I try this!
UPDATE: I think the lightening /redness reducing properties have plateued after the first couple weeks. Still think this is a good product but defniitely not a miracle. Will continue to use this on new red marks though.

I sometimes use this as a facial mask, but most of the time I just use it as a spot treatment. I break out maybe once or twice a month, but I had many many scars (red/brown spots) from my old acne. I used the Concha Nacar bleaching cream as a spot treatment every night before going to bed for around 4 months now(yes, i just left it on my face until morning even though it says to leave it on for 30min-1hr). All the scars that I had previously faded away drastically within the last few months, and my face finally looks ok without even putting concealer on! Even my mother has noticed the difference in my skin. I also feel like I break out less after using the cream (it does contain salicylic acid!).

Also, the bleaching cream really does its "bleaching" job. I got badly sunburned and became about 2 shades darker about 3 months ago. I used this product as a facial cream/mask for about 3-4 days straight, and my peers noticed that my skin color was almost back to the way it was!

If you're having problems dealing with old scars or a bad tan, I recommend you buy this product! Only $5 too!

I love it :) My mom bought it for me years ago and since then I have been using it. I use it probably 1-2 times a month seeming as I rarely have a day where i have 60 minutes to spare wearing a mask. It leaves my skin rejuvenated and super soft. It does make your skin glow, but only if you don't wash it off completely which i do because the glow leaves my skin kinda dewy and i don't like that. Over all i must say that i definetly noticed a change in my skin since i have been using it that's why I haven't stopped. People who claim it made them break out, perhaps your allergic to an ingredient in it? Personally I have very sensitive skin and i have never had any problems with it :)

I'm trying to figure this stuff out. I can't find a whole lot online, so I'm checking out the ingredient list and going from there.

This review is for the bottle marked #3; Bleaching Cream.

First of all, it's not a bleach. Technically, hydroquinone is not a bleach either, it operates by shutting off excess melanin production where applied. That said, I have been looking for non-hydroquinone alternatives to treat birth-control induced melasma. Treat your acne, get dark spots instead. Go figure. Anyway:

The texture is sticky and gritty. I like this because I can gently exfoliate with it once or twice a week. Perfect for that.

I stir the jar with a toothpick, as the directions indicate, before use. I don't like the idea of contaminating it with my finger. I apply it evenly, which doesn't take much, massaging it in, then layering it a bit.

I leave it on for the recommended 60 minutes. I can say that my skin looks similar to after using a very mild glycolic acid; that is to say, the surface is refined. I think this is the honey working, along with the citric acid from the lemon juice (BTW, a mask of 50/50% lemon juice and honey is fantastic).

I like that this product contains bentonite, which is found in my very FAVORITE clay mask, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. It's also found in a very expensive pre-mixed clay mask sold at Sephora. At any rate, it's very very good at drawing out impurities from the pores. The combination of bentonite, along with the citric acid from the lemon and refining properties of the honey, I believe is what makes this work as a spot-treatment as well. I read that this mask also contains papain (papaya), a fruit enzyme. So there's another hydroxy acid to help refine and encourage cell-turnover.

In conclusion, I believe this mask to consist of natural ingredients that are meant to both chemically and manually exfoliate, with honey and irish moss to sooth and keep it gentle. It's gentle but does the job, so I'd say it's a 1-2 times per week kind of mask. I recommend cleansing with Grisi's Concha Nacar bar soap, steaming your face, then applying this mask while it's still wet. For $5, I can almost guarantee you'll love it.

NOTE: I read that people are having breakouts from this. That's because the ingredients cause more rapid cell turnover and renewal, which can cause an initial skin purge. With regular use, it will go away, and you'll be left with clearer skin than you had before. That stuff was going to come out at some point anyway; this is just drawing it out quicker.

HG!

I love this mask! I use it when I feel like my skin looks sallow or dull, maybe once or twice a week. I like to use it in the morning because it makes my skin so soft and makeup application is easier.
Since it's called a bleaching cream I was expecting it to be super harsh but I think it's really gentle. I haven't experienced any negative reactions to this stuff. I leave it on for about an hour in the morning, then wipe it off with a washcloth. Maybe it's the honey but my skin is just so smooth afterward. If I have any pimples they diminish slightly and heal faster. I have noticed some of my old acne scars fading, but I bet they'd heal faster if I used this more often.
The only con I can think of is that the container doesn't shut very well or something, because I once traveled with this in my bag and it leaked. I do mix it up pretty well before I use it each time because it separates.
I picked this up at Walgreens for about $5, it's a steal. There's a good amount of product in the jar considering you don't use a lot at one time. It's easy to just slather it on because it feels so nice but you get your money's worth if you don't use as much. :) I'd buy this again for sure.

I've only used this a few times over the past couple of weeks, so I will update if anything changes in the future. So far, I really, really like this! I found it at CVS for $5 in the Hispanic skin care section. I have used it for 30 minutes at a time. It leaves my skin incredibly soft and with a slight glow. I used it the other morning while I had my morning coffee and my makeup looked fantastic that day. It feels very nice on the skin, creamy with a bit of soft grit to it, so it gently exfoliates while rinsing. I have some PIH from a past cystic breakout earlier this year, which I am treating with weekly Lactic acid peels from MUAC, and a few clogged pores. So far, this mask hasn't addressed any of that (although I did not expect it to), but I really love the way it brightens my face. It is a little pick-me-up when my face feels/looks dull, and I will defintely repurchase if for that, if nothing else.

I decided to purchase this product after seeing good reviews on it. The first night I used it I left it on for 35 minutes. The next morning my face looked brighter and clear, I was impressed. The second night I used it again for 35 minutes as well, but this time my face itched really bad and became uncomfortable, I actually took it off before the 35 mins. I woke up the next morning with 6 pimples, the big red nasty kind that leaves scars for about 3 weeks, and my face felt raw and dry. Now I'm using aloe vera from the plant to help get my skin back to normal, makeup doesn't even help it look better, my skin looks dull and rough. This was definately not for me, and what sucked is I had to cancel a date I had because I look like a monster :^(

It mostly depends on the brand. I used a brand called GRISI and it was REALLY greasy and caused my skin to breakout.
But I bought an off-brand natural concha nacar cream and I really liked it. It helps control my acne and makes my skin soft. I wear this at night. If you are trying to get a whiter skin, I would recommend getting the actual shell.

I love this mask! It does make my face brighter and more even-toned. It is also gives me feeling of cleanness and it is nicely exfoliating. It is my very favorite one.

PS: for those with sensitive skin - keep in mind this product contains salicylic acid- if you gonna use it three times a day every day - of course it will dry your skin out. It's not an every day mask. I use it 2 times a week max or when I need an extra cleaning (like after heavy-make up party night) Just like with any scrub or deep cleaning product it is not meant to be used every day, as I see some people here who have abused it got reverse results.
