I love this eyeliner, it smudges just right to give that great smokey effect. Plus it glides on really easily. The effects are an intense, soft smokey look which stays on for hours.

This is a great product for smudging. This glides on like a dream. Very rich, smooth and black. But, let me repete, this is great for SMUDGING. This product will definately transfer and smear given how creamy it is. For a MAC pencil that sets after it's applied, I'd go for Engraved.

I like this liner. It isn't my HG, but it gives me an easy smoky eye look pretty easily. Good pigmentation, lets me "work" with it, only decent staying power. I haven't had major issues with smudging/travelling, but I think the wear/staying power could be better than it is. Overall, though, I like and use it quite a bit.

This smudges like nobodys business. As a contact lens wearer with sensitive, allergy-prone eyes, there's no way I'm letting this near my water line. However I gave this a high rating because I use it two ways successfully - smudged over the lid, under a primer, as a dark base for smoky eyes, and as a base liner underneath beauty marked eyeshadow. I only need a little bit of smoulder straight from the pencil and then I go over top with a smudge brush dipped in eyeshadow. The shadow sets the liner while the liner brings out the true color of the shadow.

Wow, this SMUDGES! Seriously? I have used many, and none smudged as bad (Revlon Colorstay, Estee Lauder, Sephora, Styli-Style, Avon, Clinique, BE and others). This is intense black, I agree. It glides on well. But it is embarrassing to be at work (I have direct patients' care) and then go to the bathroom and realize that your eyeliner is smudges all over my lower eyelid. I bought couple. Please let me know if you wanna swap or something. (New ones of course)

This is a great product & gives a really dark intense look! Really good for a dramatic evening look or a more intense day look. The only thing I would say is wrong with this product is that it does tend to smudge & fall throughout the day. Other than that, its a lovely eyeliner!

I absolutely love smolder. I've had mine for at least a year and it's only half gone. I use it a good three or four times a week. It's creamy, and really dark and pigmented, and VERY black. It doesn't flake like other pencil liners I've used in the past. I never apply it straight from the pencil however, I use a MAC 209 thin liner brush then smudge it into my lashes with a 219 pencil brush. I find it looks less harsh this way and also it means you use less product which makes it last much longer. Overall, a fantastic staple that I will purchase over and over again. X

I absolutely love this liner!!! I've owned a million different drugstore liners, and even a couple different ones from MAC and this is my favorite one!!! Smolder stays on my waterline so well and I love how easily I can smudge it out on my upper lash line. I haven't had any problems with running or fading. I also love to smudge this all over the lid for a dark eyeshadow base. This liner is also incredibly creamy and goes on without tugging -- which is one of the most important qualities in a liner imo. This eyeliner is really creamy, it's not a deep black, it's more of a blueish black.
It lasts all day long, though. I personally don't like the blueish color on it. It has a great pigmentation, but i would not buy it again because of the color. I prefer deep dark eye liners. If you are looking for a deep dark eyeliner as I do, don't buy this one. Everything else is fine :)

*If you're in a hot place it will run.

About me: NW13 (neutral-cool toned, very fair), blue eyes, Color season is True Summer, Baumann Skin Type is OSPW.

I like this eyeliner for when I want a softer smudgey look. I tend to wear this with Satin Taupe as a wash and a darker shadow in the crease.

It's a softer black, a charcoal. Not pitch black, but not gray either. Very complimentary for my fair skin and blue eyes.

Only con I have to say about it is that I feel it does not do a nice cat eye, since it is hard to get it to a sharp point. And it seems to fade after a few hours of wear, so would need to touch up.
EDIT: no longer like this pencil. it smears everywhere. it transfers from my lash line to all over my lid. this is a great pencil if you want a dark smokey look but it keeps moving even after you've placed it where you want.

I would definitely say that this product is great for smudging, it's black and smooth. Creamy and does not irritate or get into your eyes, great for contact lens wearers. However, if you were looking for something that does not run, this would not be the product for you. At least, not for me.

For the price, I think the Revlon Colourstay eyeliner would have been a better bet for me. It has to be sharpened, though, which I prefer.

So for those who love them smokey eyes, try it! For those who like it minimal, you could get a better line with the blacktrack fluidline.

Simply a beautiful eyeliner. I no longer suffer from watery, itchy eyes that ruin my makeup, make my false lashes loose and ruin my day. I had become fed up with drugstore eyeliners, they simply left my eyes irritated and in pain. I always thought I had allergies, but I wanted to see if a more expensive liner would work. I love MAC products, and I heard many positive reviews about Smolder. I ordered this along with some other products, and hoped it would work. When I first used it, I was thrilled that it glided on smooth- and best of all, my eyes felt fine afterwards. I went out shopping, and was so happy that I didn't have to check my eye makeup every 10 minutes to see if any eyeliner had come off. Before using Smolder, my eyes always looked red, as if I was crying- now my eyes looked fresh and awake. This liner basically lasts all day for me, I don't need to set it with a black eyeshadow and deal with more discomfort. I wish I had tried Smolder sooner, its a wonderful eyeliner.

I have gone through about 4 or 5 of these eyeliners and will continue to repurchase it because it is my favorite pencil eyeliner. It is creamy, easy to sharpen and applies nicely and very dark on the eyes. It will not tug on the eyelids at all- just glide on with great pigmentation.
The one bad thing I will say about this eyeliner is that it will crease if applied without a primer or over a shadow. I cannot wear this alone on the waterline because it will move by the end of the day and make me look like a panda but it stays much better on the upper lash line.

I absolutely love this liner! I use this liner on the bottom part of my eye, then smudge it with a small brush. The liner is a dense black color and when I smudge it a little it has a great smokey look to it. Other eyeliners do not seem to be able to smudge like this one and leave me looking like I have thick black lines around my eyes. This liner gives me an awesome smokey look that it subtle. The liner also lasts pretty much all day and it doesn't make my eyes water. I haven't found any other eyeliners that are as good as this one!

this is the best black eye liner to rim the top lid with on the waterline and outside. it goes on so easy and creamy and im able to make a very thin line on the top with it easily. i have no problem with it lasting all night. as for under eye area i can;t comment because i only use it on the top and shadow for bottom line area.

My favorite eye liner pencil. So dark and inky!! The kohl pencils just glide on like silk! (There is nothing worse than trying to apply a pointy sharp pencil to your eyes in the morning!) Because this eyeliner is so soft it does tend to smudge easily..I find that if I apply a black eyeshadow on top of the finished eyeliner it locks in the product all day with no smudgies! I still use liquid liner on my upper lash line, but this eyeliner is awesome when it comes to lining underneath the eye (not waterline) it is so precise and makes your eyes appear so much larger! Love it.

What the f***, man? I completely give up on kohls. This is an excellent, true black, but at the expense of being a smudgy hot mess. When I use it in the water line, it somehow disappears completely from where I put it and ends up in my already too-dark undereye area.

I'll be sticking to using carbon (shadow) with an angled brush on my waterline.

This smudges like crazy! It skips pretty bad when I try to use it on my upper lid. And it gets a little messy when I use it on my waterline. It's really pigmented which I do like, but it's just too oily.
