I bought this to help with flyways and control those stubborn "baby hairs" that stick straight up on my hairline. It didn't really work for either- it seemed to just slip out of my fingers. The smell reminded me of men's cologne and the color was odd- a light orange, maybe? I think this would be better for people with short haircuts as I think it would probably help with getting a "piece-y" look. It just didn't work for what I needed. Would not repurchase.

I love this stuff! It works wonders on my short, fine hair and smells lovely and herbally to me. My parents, however, think it smells like an outhouse at Bonnaroo. My only issue with this very firm wax is that I have to wash my hair the day after using it because it becomes a little too separated and slick. Nonetheless, this is the best wax I have ever used, and will repurchase until a better alternative comes into existence.

While I love the way this product smells and it has no greasy feel in your hair, it just doesn't have any holding power whatsoever for me on my bangs. I mean absolutely nothing.

I have a question for someone with experience using this. I just recently got my hair cut into a shorter layered cut. I wanted something for definition, and thanks to all the great reviews I picked this up. And I love Aveda stuff, so it was a no-brainer. However, I am having a frustrating learning curve with this. When I do as instructed and rub it in my hands to warm, it does not 'emulsify' in any way, and does not really have any 'slip', so I really can't run it through my hair without it pulling and tugging. I really can only seem to rub over the top of my hair, which still works ok, but I am wondering if this is normal with this product? I do really like it, and it works ok as I'm using it, but would greatly appreciate any helpful tips from some experienced MUA users. Thank you!

This stuff is freakin amazing. Out of all the styling products I've tried, this is the only one that gives me a hot piecey look, while also removing all the frizziness in my hair. I think the name of this stuff isn't quite right though, because it doesn't offer much for hold. That's not why I bought it though, I just wanted definition to my hair. I use hair spray for hold.

Does a good job of smoothing the poofiness that my wavy hair gets when it's cut short, and gives it a piecy look without looking greasy or product-y. I think it smells great, but it is definitely an Aveda-y scent. I scrape out just a tiny bit (pea-sized? less?) with the top of my fingernail, rub it into my palm, and then add a bit of water to make it easier to apply. My husband likes to use this too to give his hair some control and a little pieciness (although I prefer the scent of the Aveda Men's Grooming Clay on him).

This product has worked out for me wonderfully so far. I only use Aveda hair products and have never had a problem with them. I don't know if I have gotten use to there "earthy" scent but I found this product to not smell as strong as some of the others. Personally I wish it did!
I have recently cut my hair from a chin length bob to a pixie (google Erin O'Connor).
I use a dime size amount of Confixer and once my hair is dry I use a dime size or less of Control Paste. Swirl it around and I am done.
Easily hair style I have had in a long time.

Not adding anything new here except I want to stress that the smell of this product is way overpowering. I've had the same tub of product for over a year. It's great in how it separates and gives definition to hair -- my hair is thick and coarse, and tends to look like a helmet, so I have to use product to break it up. While this works, I can't take the smell. I used it years ago, but I was a smoker then and evidently couldn't smell the fragrance; today, I can't take it. I also wonder if it smells as strong to other people, so I quit using it. If Aveda made this is an unfragranced version, I'd buy it. Until then, my partially used tub will continue to sit unused in my cabinet. It's so expensive, can't bring myself to throw it away.

I got this at the actual Aveda salon when I had to get my hair fixed after a hair cutting incident with super cuts. I love the smell and the product and I still have a lot of it left (its been a couple years since i got it)

If this stuff could talk it would yell. It is waaaay too loud, the scent waaaay too overpowering. It smells like my dad's deordorant! What were you thinking, Aveda? I purchased this at the new hair salon I've been going to who uses Aveda products. I didn't try it until I got it home and unfortunately, can't take it back. Not only is the scent too strong, but it makes my hair look greasy. Bleahkkkk. Open this up and smell this before you decide to buy it!!!

Great for seperation, height, helping create wild looks or simply keeping flyaways at bay! Yes, you can buy other pastes and waxes at the drug store but they are usually extremeley greasy or feel very hard/stiff in the hair. Also, looove the smell:)

My only complaint is the packaging, if you don't scew on the lid completely paste dried out. Also it's kind of pricey for a hair product (around $25) but it will last a long time so don't be afraid to spend the extra cash.

I was taken aback buy the price on this (I paid $22) since I'm pretty cheap when it comes to beauty... but I have to admit this is far superior to any of the drugstore hair pastes/balms/creams I've used before.

You only need a tiny amount, it rinses out cleanly when you wash your hair, I love that famous Aveda smell, and, it really does tame whatever you need tamed. I have a short shaggy graduated bob, and this does a great job of separating layers, giving me some chunky-ness, and taming any flyaways. Even at this price, I'll buy again and again!

I love this product. I take a break some times because of the scent. One of these tubs will last me at least a year- as I just use on the ends of my hair and bangs. I like how it rinses clean out of my hair and doesn't leave any gooey residue that I have to scrub out. Will continue to purchase as I think I am on tub number three or four by now!

My stylist recommended this product to me for when I wear my hair back in a ponytail. This paste helps lay your hair down so you can create the perfect ponytail. It helps keep all of the flyaways down as well. I will definitley keep this product on hand. It also has the signature aveda smell.

Since having my baby, my hair has begun to grow back along the hairline which had fallen out during pregnancy. I have these crazy 2 inch hairs sticking out all over the place where my part is. Control Paste has helped tame these hairs, helping them blend with the rest of my bangs.

Started using this about 6 years ago and never looked back. Superior for that wispy, chunky ends looks without any sacrifice to movement. Lasts most all day and has that pleasing, earthy Aveda scent to it. BEWARE: Just make sure you screw the lid back on - dries out quickly and won't have the same consistency as before.

This is the first time I've ever repurchased a hair styling product. I bought this after my stylist used it to keep my baby hairs from flying around and my side bangs out of my face. That was almost 2 years ago - it took me that long to use up. I use a very small amount of product and rub it between my palms before applying it to my long, fine, hair. it never weighs it down or makes it look dull - just keeps everything in place.
If i want my hairs to stay poufy, I use it on top of a teased section, and it lasts for much longer.
Smells great - lasts forever - awesome product.

This product is excellent at giving separation and definition to my layers without weighing down my hair too much.

I have fine hair with the tiniest touch of wave cut in a long, shaggy bob with long bangs. Most days I air dry my hair so that the layers have a bit of curl and then apply this product when I get to work. It defines my layers and keeps my bangs from having too much of the freshly washed and poofy look. I personally love the smell, but if you aren't into Aveda scents, you aren't going to like this one either.

It's a bit pricey, but you only need a tiny dab and the pot is huge! I think it's well worth it because I've never found a cheaper paste/pomade that works as well.

Control Paste is a great styling product for shorter hair styles. My hairdresser always uses this to style my hair after a cut and I just couldn't duplicate the look at home with drug store hair pomades, waxes or gels. Everything else made my hair too sticky or too greasy. I rub a small amount of this between my palms with some Light Elements Smoothing Fluid, run my hands through my hair to distribute then smooth my hair into place. I find it gives my hair a smooth, natural, shiny look. I sometimes rub a bit extra on the ends of my hair to control flyaways. I think this product probably works best with shorter hair. When I've gone too long between cuts, this product doesn't help "control" my hair. I have tried to find a similar, less expensive drug store product to no avail. So I will begrudgingly pay $30 CAD per tub. At least it has that great Aveda smell.

This is a nice texturizing product for shorter, messy shag-type cuts. It provides more hold than the typical wax although not so much as a gel. It's not greasy or sticky yet still pliable enough to be easy to work with and does not leave nasty clumps in my hair. Smell is that subtle herbal Aveda smell which is great as I don't like sickly sweet smelling hair products. Lasting power is about as good as your gonna get for a product with a 'soft' finish. It gets a lippie off for the price - even though I don't mind splashing out on my products $50 (Aussie) just seems ridiculous for such a basic pomade. The appearance of the pot does not imply a luxury product -it's plain clear plastic and looks like it comes from the supermarket. I know that sounds shallow but I get annoyed when expensive products *look* cheapo. If it were a more reasonable price I'd certainly repurchace. I don't think Aveda is so expenive in other countries though. The product overall is superior to Sebastian pomades (greaseball alert) imo.
