I was actually quite impressed with this mascara. I needed a waterproof mascara and I saw this one on Michelle Phan's On-The-Go mascara video so I gave it a try. This mascara comes with a primer and a mascara. Usually, I avoid products like this because I don't fall for gimmicks, but I'm so glad I took a risk with this one. I love the primer; it adds nice length to my lashes. The mascara isn't bad; not my favorite but it does the job. I feel like the primer can be used with any other mascara. Just make sure to apply your mascara before the primer dries, otherwise it will peek through. My lashes didn't gain much volume but I still like the look. I will definitely repurchase this product, but more for the primer side :)

It's hard to cover white and it makes my eyelashes so long they are way over my eyebrows!! As valume gose... It just clumped my eyelashes worse then anything else I've used. I even tryed it without the white and it looked like it did with the white just couldn't see white places. It's in the dumpster now. Wast ov money!!

Loved the intense black but I accidentally got the waterproof formula. It's been flaking in my eyes all day and it rubbed off on my upper eyelids so I had that spider look. I love the regular formula but I wish I hadn't wasted the $10 on this one.

I didn't like it at first, but I liked it more and more as I use it. Now I think it's fine but it's almost dried up.
The biggest concern I have with this is that it is difficult to cover the white sometimes, and it leaves my lashes not too intensely black. I love my lashes to be extremely dark so that's one cone for me. However, the brush seperates my lashes pretty well, and I'm happy with how it holds my curls.
I won't probably buy this again because there are much better mascaras out there for better quality and price.

i got one in soft black, for like everyday look.. its good. the primer is very nice.. its really lengthening!! it claims it gives volume + length.. well:volume- False
:length- true
it is also clumpy so be careful, but you really need several coats to build the texture, well like always, but this one even more as it does not give volume at all. be sure to curl your lashes before applying this.. as afterwards it is going to be a bit hard. if you forgot, then i recommend being extra careful when removing the eyelash curler, coz it really sticks to your lashes. you might pull them off if you are too brutal.. so beware!
overall this is good. it lasted all day with tears and etc.. it does not smudge but takes some time to dry when applied. so don't rub your eyes immediately after applying. for me it took around 10 min to dry completely, but you can continue building the color while waiting.

Blah. I wanted something to add length and volume. So I tried this 'two-part' product. The white end you brush on first to add volume. Worked. My lashes did look longer. However, they are now white.
On to part two. The black end. Brush that over the white. The clumps are horrendous. I don't like it at all. My lashes do look longer, but awful. This product may work better if you spend a lot of time applying it careful, but I don't have that kind of time. Back to Full n' Soft!

I've been using this mascara for 2 years now and am still quite pleased with the product. It is reasonably priced since it's a 2-in-1, but each side doesn't have much product so you may find that it runs out easily if used everyday. Sometimes you could find BOGO deals though.

This is my choice of mascara for traveling due to it's convenience of having both the primer and mascara in one and being waterproof is a must. Although it's called XXL Intense, do note that there's many different specific mascaras by Maybelline under that line and this is actually one of the less volumizing ones. It does volumize and lengthen enough to make my super sparse and thin eye lashes look good without being overly dramatic. It didn't clump and works great defining the separate lashes, giving a good natural look for everyday wear.

As for the brush, I like the tapered ends to reach the corners and works great for the bottom lashes as well. The strands of the brush is dense enough to catch most of my non-existent lashes. The formula didn't smudge or flake on me. To remove the mascara without scrubbing or pulling, do use a good waterproof make up remover (I recommend Clinique's Take the Day Off make up remover for lids, lashes and lips)

Personally I would prefer if Maybelline was able to come up with a waterproof XXL mascara that's as volumizing as their XXL Intense Volume (which claims to give x11 the volume in comparison to waterproof XXL intense which is 4x I believe). I need at least 2 coats of the black side to get the minimum volume I desire especially if I want to make sure I cover all the white.

Overall, this is still my go to choice for a cheap, waterproof do-it-all mascara... that is, until I find the "perfect" waterproof mascara.

Not impressed with this mascara. I should have known cause the regular Great Lash majorly sucks on me. This one is nice when used along w/ a lash primer but by it self it doesn't add any length or volume so to speak. The plus side is that it doesn't flake on me or irritate my eyes in anyway. Will not buy again :( Oh by the way this is a review for the new Great Lash Big Mascara

Although the primer did do a good job at lengthening the lashes, it was quite difficult to go over the white especially with only one or two coats of the mascara.

Also, the mascara was more on the clumpy side and didn't give me the natural full lush lashes that I wanted.

It's good for people wanting length though.

I'm surprised, and not just a little humbled. For years now, I've been strictly a Lancome Hypnose/L'Extreme mascara girl-NO ONE makes mascara like Lancome. However, I needed "cheap and cheerful" and needed it waterproof in a hurry, so I bought the XXL Waterproof. The packaging is not much different than any other mascara of this type: it's a dual-ended tube with a primer on one end, and the waterproof on the other. I used just the WP on my lower lashes, and both on the upper. Voila-I actually got respectable volume from this product, and it didn't burn my eyes like so many WPs do. I was really impressed with that, and with its staying power. No raccoon eyes, no burning, no crunchy lashes, no flaking off. I got long, full, soft lashes that lasted as long as I wanted them to: I sweated in them, I swam in them, I went out in the rain with them. And I will continue to do so as long as this product stays this good. I may not have anything good to say about Great Lash anymore (my teenage era HG) but I have nothin' but love for this drugstore diamond!
