Like the reviewer below, I did not find this to be effective at all as a moisturizer, especially considering the ingredients and the thick, rich texture. I have normal, though aging, skin and don't need anything particularly emollient, and I prefer a light moisturizer for daytime use. But this just doesn't perform. There's nothing to object to -- it's just as if you've put nothing on at all. Odd.

I'm disappointed this didn't work for me as I really wanted to like it. The ingredients list is nice and largely natural, it's great value for money, and I really like the company's ethos. This moisturised well enough despite its light consistency and absorbed completely without leaving an oily or tacky finish, but it didn't moisturise as intensively as I'd have preferred. Unfortunately, I'm quite sensitive to fragrances and I found the combination of the nutty and very intense tea scent too intrusive, to the extent that I had to use this as a body cream just to get it away from my face.
On a practical note, the packaging was quite impractical as the plastic pump inside the bottle was too thin and the cream thick enough that I had a lot of trouble getting the cream through the pump. I tried to decant this into another container, but as the bottle was glass, I couldn't just break or cut up the packaging to get it out. This was also exacerbated by the small opening of the bottle which meant that only small amounts could be got out at a time. The tall glass packaging also meant it was impossible to get to the last bit of product at the bottom. Despite the flaws, I think this is a really good quality, value for money and effective natural moisturiser if you have normal to dryish skin and don't mind the scent.

I've been using this for a couple of years now. i live in a very dry place, so most of the time in the winter i'm a chapped, flakey mess. this is the only moisturizer that works! it's great summer or winter, and doesn't clog my pores or break me out.
i love shea butter & love EVERYTHING this company makes (my bathroom is full of their products).
my only complaint, and it's minor, is the stupid pump stops working with about an inch of moisturizer left...so i spend the next couple of weeks scraping it out. i think the moisturizer is just a little too thick for the pump.

I never write reviews. But I love this product so much, I had to.
I have combination to oily skin, and I wear this under makeup or tinted sunscreen. The formula is very light, but absorbs so well and makes my skin feel moisturized without being heavy. I love the nutty smell too. The bottle is 2.3oz and has lasted me 4 months with daily use (once a day).
I've been trying different natural skin creams, but I'm going to stick to this one; not only because I love the quality of the product, but also because of the awesome work this company does. They donate 10% of their sales towards empowerment projects in West Africa. Things like buying bicycles for girls so they can go to school..how cool is that??
That's the kind of company I want to support. Simply awesome.

I really hate that this product did not work for me! I have oily, combination skin and every time I used this I had broken out all over my face. I tried to bear with it for a week, but it just was not improving at all. The only reason I rated it a 3 instead of a 1 is because the company mission is very honorable; they donate 10% of their product profit to the areas where they receive the ingredients. But, alas, I am at least glad to hear that others have had such marvelous success with it!

This moisturizer is great. I wasn't so sure about it at first because I have oily and sensitive skin and one of the major ingredients in this is shea butter, but I'm SO glad I took a chance on this moisturizer. It smells great. You couldn't ask for better ingredients or packaging and it makes my skin really nice and smooth. I only wish this came with an SPF of some kind though. I'm dying to try their entire line now. I just bought their Baobab & shea butter skin renewal face cream for times when I need extra hydration. . I just tried it out at whole foods and it seems SO rich. Next time I need body lotion I'm SO THERE for this brand. New favorite for sure.

I haven't written a review in ages, but this product deserves my time and energy.
I was hospitalized recently due to a severe allergic reaction. It was a nightmare of tests, blood work and 103 fevers. I was a mess.
When I was released from the hospital it was as though I had spent way too much time in the sun. My skin was literally burned and peeling. Worse yet - it itched so badly, I wanted to rip my face off!
I read the reviews here, and off I went to the local HFS. I brought this product home, and my face was healed in 48 hours. If I stop using it, I get all itchy again. I have since bought 2 more of their products and hope that they are as miraculous as this one...

Love love love love love!!! Yes, I like it THAT MUCH! I wear this during the day since the Shea And Neem moisturizer is a bit smelly due to the patchouli in it. This cream does not make my skin break out nor does it clog my pores. Works well under foundation and evens out my skin tone. Smells great, like vanilla, and a little goes a long way. Price is amazing at around $14 (or under) for 2.3 ounces. Comes in a glass bottle with a pump so that makes me extra thrilled about the product! Nothing but love and raves about this product. Will buy as long as my skin gets along with it!

I'm on my second bottle of this lotion. I first received a small sample of it from an Alaffia representative at my local natural foods store. I was hesitant to try it and sure it would cause an acne breakout, but I knew that shea butter is supposed to be healing. So I gave it a try. Within 3 days, a cystic acne bump that had been driving me crazy was completely healed (swelling and pain was gone in 1 day). So when the sample ran out, I immediately bought the full size bottle.
It's the most healing lotion I've tried. If I get any bumps or scaliness, it heals much faster than it ever did before. And I haven't had any cystic acne since I've been using it. My face is not completely clear, but I definitely feel this lotion has made a HUGE improvement in the look of my skin.
Another benefit is that it wears beautifully under makeup- it soaks right in an creates a nice base for my powder make-up. :)

This is very hydrating without clogging pores and doesn't break me out. It helps me with eczema patches and you don't have to use a lot. I like the scent; it is very light. It comes in a glass jar and all you have to do is warm a bit in your palms and apply to your face. Contains fair-trade shea butter and rooibos tea which is highly nutritious and so I can only imagine what benefits it could offer to my face. My face is oily and sensitive and this doesn't cause any problems with either of them. I was lucky to get mine on sale but this won't set you back too much. I really like Alaffia conditioners as well and recommend them if you dry hair. As for this, I really like it and look forward to trying other facial products.

This moisturizer is amazing. I have very sensitive, combination and acne-prone skin, and this moisturizer is very calming and healing. It is not greasy, but sinks right into the skin. I have not had any breakouts from it or pesky clogged pores. Honestly, since using the Alaffia Antioxidant cleanser, toner and moisturizer my skin has more soft and clear than ever. If you are discouraged that you'll never find the right products for your sensitive, acne-prone skin, I encourage you to try Alaffia. Their products aren't like any others I've tried!

My local wholefoods has been out of this face cream for a couple weeks now so i asked for a sample to try until their stock comes. Love that it comes in a glass container with a pump. very hygienic. it is a light a cream, with an unnoticeable scent. i had some trouble applying it as it seemed to not spread very easily. other than that, a very good face cream that keeps the skin hydrated and protected too, it seems. it took care of flakes and dry spots on my face and made it sooo soft and smooth i couldn't stop touching my face. saw an improvement in my skin in just the few days that i used it in that my skin looked hydrated, plump and healthy. tone evened out and no breakouts or reactions. i plan to purchase a full size bottle once it is in stock to use with the facial bar soap and also plan to try the toner in the antioxidant line. at the moment i am using the shea butter and goat's milk facial bar soap with dessert essence facial moisturizer. i have to say that my face felt softer and looked healthier when i was using the rooibos and shea butter antioxidant face cream. a good buy - highly recommended! you'll find ingredient and box info on vitacost.com.
