Horrible shampoo!!! First of all, the Matrix website lists the following about the shampoo: "Gently moisturizes & protects so that color stays longer", "Hair is softer, shinier & more manageable". There is NOTHING moisturizing about this shampoo, and hair is nowhere close to being softer. I shampooed in the shower and felt my hair after I rinsed, my hair was dry feeling to the touch, and it was tangled throughout. I have had better results from $3 shampoos! I used the colorcaretherapie conditioner after shampooing and have also reviewed this product in a seperate post.

I'm changing over to sls free products so I really wanted to like this shampoo. However this might be the worst shampoo I've ever used. I didn't feel like my hair was clean after using it. It kind of felt like I used conditioner to wash it. However when my hair was dry it looked dull. It was even worse the second time I washed it. The matching conditioner actually makes my hair feel washed but dry. They just don't work for my hair. (Long fine hair with chemically damaged ends, healthy roots)
I am wondering if I just have to get used to sls free products. I bought some John Masters products to try them out.

I splurged on this and the matching conditioner. I've never tried a sulfate free shampoo, but curiosity got the best of me. I was afraid this wouldn't lather well enough, and while I do notice a difference if I'm in a hurry and don't quite wet my hair enough (I have very thick, long hair), it takes about the same amount as other shampoos I've used to lather. Smell is nice and inoffensive. My hair is pretty healthy, usually, and I haven't noticed any vast improvement or damages as a result of using this. I would consider repurchasing, but it's not exactly a bargain buy, and I tend to have shampoo/conditioner ADD anyway. :)

UPDATE: This left buildup on my hair after a couple of weeks of use. So revising my rating down from a 4 to a 2.
Original Review: After I switched from thermal reconditioning to BKT, I had to stop using all of my favorite (and very expensive) shampoos, since they have sodium chloride in them (a no no for BKTed hair). I was not willing to spend very much since I had to discard my arsenal of shampoos that cost, in total, hundreds of dollars. So I ended up using Finesse for about 6 months. I think Finesse is great, but my hair started getting tired of it. So, I picked this up at Ulta. First of all, I love the smell. I cannot stop smelling my hair. It is a subtle smell, but long lasting. Secondly, my hair is super soft and shiny. My hair is fine, but there is lots of it. Many moisturizing shampoos weigh down my hair, but not this one. The packaging is so-so, as the bottle is tall and thin. It keeps falling in my shower organizer. If it were not as tall and thin, it might be more stable and stay upright. But packaging is not as important as the product. This is a keeper!

I was curious to try a sulfate free shampoo. After two days of using this shampoo along with its matching conditioner, my hair looked and felt gummy and my scalp was greasy. Ewww! I guess my hair needs SOME sulfates. I will just look for more milder sulfates. I use a little mousse and hairspray also, so I probably need the sulfates to get my scalp clean enough. This shampoo just wasn't it. Also, it is pretty expensive for the size that you get.

Sadly, very drying for me. I used up my bottle for hand soap. Every sulfate-free shampoo I've tired has been this way.

I wish I liked this stuff, I really do. It just doesn't agree with my hair, tho. It leaves it dull, poufy and yet still kinda overmoisturized and just generally bleah. It smells like heaven tho, but it just doesn't work for me. Doesn't make my scalp itch, which is a BIG plus, and a lot of heavily scented 'poos do that, but this is a no go for me.

This shampoo was decent. Nothing fantastic about it. I love how it produces a ton of lather, especially for being sulfate free. I really cannot tell a difference between this and a sulfate shampoo. It didn't make my hair any less dry than a shampoo with sulfate. It did not make my hair soft but I haven't found a shampoo that does (my hair is super dry and damaged). My hair needs "delicate care" but this isn't what I had in mind. I was hoping it would not make my hair a tangled mess like all other shampoos do, but it did. In the shower, it makes my hair feel gummy right after using it, but when it dries I don't notice it. It was more expensive than their other sulfate containing shampoos but since it preforms the same, it doesn't warrant me spending the extra money on it.

*EDIT* I forgot when I originally wrote this review that the product is loaded with silicones, and thus it leaves my hair limp and greasy by the next day. Two stars.
I'm really of two minds with this product. I want to give it a fail b/c it's blatant greenwashing on the part of L'Oreal, the parent company. There's nothing especially natural about this product, even though it claims to have organic components. If you don't list the organization that has certified the ingredients, and this shampoo doesn't, the organic claim is meaningless. Yes, the bottle is recyclable, but are there any shampoo bottles still out there that can't be recycled? It's still a conventional product from a conventional company that tests on animals and is cynical enough to believe that by putting a picture of a leaf on the bottle we'll be dumb enough to believe that it's made of nothing but the love of Mother Nature Herself. This angers me enough to want to ruin the shampoo's good score.
On the other hand, this is the best shampoo I've ever used, bar none. It's fantastic. It's gentle, lathers better than most sulfate formulas I've used, leaves my hair shiny and my scalp comfortable (no small feat), and it smells luscious. It's truly concentrated, takes only a small amount to coat my dense hair in the most luxurious lather imaginable, and I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of the bottle. It even looks nice in my shower. Perfect 5 on all the technical points.
So, because I can't really reconcile these two sides, I'm giving this product a 3 for excellent performance and skin-crawling cynicism. I know I'll buy it again, but I'll hate myself for it. Maybe if we wrote Matrix and asked them even just to stop testing their Biolage range on animals, it would make a difference. I mean, obviously I need somewhere to direct my bile besides MUA.

I have baby fine, colored hair. This product is great. It lathers extremely well..you only need a VERY small amount because it lathers up so well. The smell is consistent with the typical Matrix products..pleasant and not overpowering. I have tried just about all the sulfate-free shampoos there are and this is by far, the best.

Best Biolage shampoo ever! Love this stuff. Gentle on my damaged hair and feels great afterward. Will definitely repurchase.
EDIT: after using it for a while, ended up weighing my hair down.... :( The search goes on for another shampoo....

I was using this shampoo for about a year but recently got something different because I was getting so sick of the smell. Its not a bad smell but Im just getting really sick of it and wanted something new. This was really a great shampoo though.I love that its sulfate free.It gives such a nice rich lather my hair feels so clean after and it didnt feel dry either.Alot of shampoos will leave my hair feeling stripped its so dry but not this one.Once I finish off the new shampoo I just bought I will probably go back to this one.Its worth the money.

the biolage delicate care shampoo is truly beautiful. its a *sulfate free* shampoo with argan oil (the ingredient in morrocan oil) and acai berry antioxidants. i was really surprised how much this lathered - and a rich creamy lather at that. initially i put way to much shampoo and i had lather for days so a little goes a long way.
the conditioner is paraben and silcone free and all you do is twist the lid and the conditioner squirts out. very cool.
my hair feels like pure silk & smells so amazing. its really cool that they incorperate antioxidants in a shampoo. I actually just read a study that said if you apply antioxidant serum to your scalp you can prevent gray hairs.
I. am. In. Love.
for reference i have fine/damaged hair

I like this shampoo a lot. My scalp gets really dry in the winter and nothing seems to help...not Kerastase, not Head and Shoulders, nothing. I don't want my hair to be greasy, either. I really like this an I also really like the Delicate Hair Oil...fabulous.

I hate to bring down the rating, but I did not find anything special about this shampoo. I have long straight thicker highlighted hair. I usually use Biolage Hydrating Shampoo which does a pretty good job. While this did later really well and did not tangle my hair, I don't think my hair felt very clean afterwards. It felt kind of gummy when dry. It did not feel as soft as usual either. The smell reminds me of other biolage products, but not quite. I may use up the bottle, but I will not purchase this again.

UPDATE: It started to build up I guess? Something just started going wrong. My hair started to feel like straw. Not my friend.
ORIGINAL POST: This is the best sulfate free shampoo I have ever tried. It lathers and it doesn't leave my hair feeling dirty after a while. It has the typical Biolage scent which is fine for me. I am not a Matrix fan or even a Biolage fan...but I really like this stuff! I have fine curly/wavy kind of dry hair.

I have baby fine colored hair.
This shampoo smells great, lathers wonderfully (just use a small amount of shampoo) and hair feels really clean without feeling overprocessed.
I use Nioxin but sometimes cheats with this one.

This is a great shampoo. For being sulfate free it lathers more than most shampoos Ive used that do have sulfates. Its leaves my hair silky and detangled before I even use conditioner which is unheard of for a shampoo. Anything that doesn't make my hair tangly and dry after I use is a big plus for me cuz i RARELY find shampoos like this. And its gentle and protects my color. Its everything you could want in a shampoo all rolled into one and it is AMAZING!
